Dec. 29 - Alta 56, Highland 47
Story of the game: Becca Beaudoin scored 18 points and Makenzi
Morrison had 13 to help Alta rally in the second half and beat Highland
in a non-region game.
Alta's best moment: The Hawks trailed 28-22 at halftime, and were
still a point behind going into the final quarter. They got the lead and hit
most of their free throws to take the win. Erin Foster added nine points.
Highland's best moment: This was a winnable game for the Rams,
who got a season-high 17 points from Beauty Tuakalau to lead most
of the game. Kave Lea'eatoa and Lesieli Tuifua had 10 points each.
Statistical notes: The Hawks finished 14-18 from the free-throw line,
which was their best game (to date). Highland was 7-13. Morrison was
6-18 from the field. As a team, Alta shot 40 percent.
What we learned from this game: Alta managed to escape with a win,
despite being rusty from the Christmas break. This was the Hawks
last home game before the Region 4 season begins.

Dec. 22 - Alta 68, West Jordan 36
Story of the game: Makenzi Morrison had the hot hand this time,
scoring 26 points as Alta blew out West Jordan in a non-region game.
Alta's best moment: The Hawks played their third straight game
against a Region 3 team, and it was no trouble. Alta led 24-8 after the
first period. Becca Beaudoin had 14 points and Camila Rueda 12.
West Jordan's best moment: The Jaguars tried to repair the damage
in the second quarter and played with Alta. West Jordan emptied its
bench in the second half. Kacee Atkinson led with 14 points.
Statistical notes: Alta shot over 50 percent from the field, but had
trouble at the free-throw line (9-20). West Jordan hit 10-15 free throws.

not been threatened too badly. Morrison hit 11-15 shots and had seven

Story of the game: Becca Beaudoin scored 31 points as Alta blew the
game open in the second half and handed Taylorsville its first loss in a
non-region game.
Alta's best moment: The Hawks led by 12 going into the final period,
and then outscored Taylorsville 22-7 to turn it into a rout. Makenzi
Morrison added 17 points and Erin Foster had 11 points and 11

Statistical notes: Alta was 24-33 from the free-throw line. Taylorsville
was 14-20. Beaudoin's 30 points was a career high.
What we learned from this game: Taylorsville played Alta at the wrong
time. The Hawks bounced back very well and embarrassed the
Warriors. It was also Alta's first home game in almost three weeks.

Dec. 15 - Bingham 48, Alta 47
Story of the game: Summer Yack scored 14 points, including four
three-pointers, as Bingham handed Alta its first loss of the season in a
non-region game.
Alta's best moment: The Hawks trailed most of the game, but went on
a 13-5 run in the third quarter to take the lead. Alta led by one with :22
left, but could not grab an important defensive rebound, which led to
the winning point. Makenzi Morrison led with 19 points and Becca
Beaudoin had 13.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners escaped. One year after being
Alta by almost 50 points, they barely survive thanks to Yack's shooting
and a dominating rebounding effort. Meghan Herrick and Rachel
Gines each had nine points.
Statistical notes: Bingham was 9-19 from the free-throw line. Alta was
12-16. The Hawks shot just 32 percent, but were helped by just five
turnovers.
What we learned from this game: This rivalry seems to have moved
to girls basketball, too. This was a winnable game, and could have
been a highlight to the team's season. Call it a missed opportunity.

Beaudoin failed to score and fouled out. Alta led 22-8 after one quarter
and 37-15 at halftime. The Hawks shot better than 50 percent from the
field and had 20 steals.
Cottonwood's best moment: The Colts finally got their offense going
in the second half, but it was too late. Fehi Fakailoatonga led in
scoring with 14 points. McKenzie Anderson had 11.
Statistical notes: Foster and Hayli Shurtz each had two three-pointers.
Beaudoin ended up shooting 0-4 from the field and had limited playing
time.

developed a three-person scoring unit, and can adjust when one
player is having an off night.

also helped with 21 steals and that prevented Dixie from mounting a
comeback. Foster finished with 19 points and Makenzi Morrison 13.
Dixie's best moment: This was Dixie's season opener. The Flyers got

points, to lift Alta to a narrow win over upset-minded Snow Canyon in a
non-region game.

and was saddled with foul trouble. Morrison came through on defense,
too, with eight steals and Alta hit 16-22 free throws, some of those
down the stretch.

difference late in the game.

Morrison was a thief on defense, recording seven steals, as Alta
turned back Fremont in a non-region game.

to the scoring of Beaudoin, Morrison (16 points) and Erin Foster (14).
Alta led 32-25 at halftime and slowly extended the margin.
Fremont's best moment: Kelsie Bell led the Silverwolves with 16
points. Fremont simply didn't have the firepower to rally. Keeley
Swander had six points on two three-pointers. Mikkell Minnoch had
eight points.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot poorly from the free-throw line. Alta
was 6-15 and Fremont 9-21. Beaudoin hit four three-pointers, but the
Hawks were 8-24 from long range. Camila Rueda had 12 rebounds.
What we learned from this game: Alta improved to 2-0, thanks to a
nice defensive effort, but this game was closer than it needed to be.
The Hawks' shooting was off, as shown by their three-point and
free-throw efforts.

shots from three-point range, as Alta built a big lead and buried Layton

Layton got back into it. Alta then relied on Beaudoin and Makenzi
Morrison (23 points) to build a comfortable advantage again. Hayli
Shurtz added 12 points.
Layton's best moment: The Lancers rallied nicely in the second
period, outscoring Alta 20-10 to trail by just six at halftime. Addi Moore
had a big game with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Statistical notes: The Hawks nailed 10-14 from three-point range.
Shurtz also had three treys. Melanie Easter got into foul trouble and
eventually fouled out. Layton had six treys. Erin Foster had three blocks.
What we learned from this game: The Hawks opened the season on
a high note. However, they appared to get too complacent after
building the big lead. Fortunately, it didn't hurt them.
