opposing coaches left the gym just shaking their heads. The three
games in Logan last week certainly helped as Bingham was not rusty
at all.

fourth quarters with Clifford on the bench. The Miners biggest lead
was 50-39. Mero had four three-pointers. Surprisingly, Bingham had

runs.
Brighton's best moment: The Miners defense focused on stopping
Corbin Miller, so Sam Wunderli stepped up his game. He finished
with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Austin Hudson and Xan Ricketts
also had good games, but they were in foul trouble a lot.
Statistical notes: Miller, Ricketts and Hudson eventually fouled out.
Bingham spread the floor in the fourth quarter and hit enough free
throws to prevent a comeback. Clifford still scored 15 points and Nate
Girsberger had 12.
What we learned from this game: Bingham's depth showed again,
and the Miners had a nice game plan for Brighton. It was an
entertaining game, but means little. These teams may plan again in
March.

Dec. 16 - Bingham 63, Mtn. View 49
Story of the game: Ben Clifford led a balanced scoring attack with 14
points as Bingham rebounded from last night's loss to defeat
Mountain View in a non-region game.
Bingham's best moment: Nate Girsberger had 12 points and Ty
Hannay 11, and 10 players reached the scoring column. The game
was close, but Bingham just slowly built the lead.
Mtn. View's best moment: The Bruins played tough, but could not
overcome the Miners. Taylor Warner led in scoring with 14 points and
Colton Gourley had 11. Gourley had a couple of three-pointers.
Statistical notes: Bingham was 11-13 from the free-throw line;
Mountain View 13-22. Hannay's 11-point effort was a season high,
and helped make up for Shad Sommerville, who had a season low
six points.
What we learned from this game: After the Oly game, Bingham had
to talk about using its depth better, and the whole team came through.

Dec. 15 - Olympus 68, Bingham 63
Story of the game: Ben Sonntag came off the bench to nail a couple
of key free throws, and teammates Joe Bourne and Nicholas Paulos
made several more as Olympus held off previously unbeaten
Bingham in a non-region game.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners trailed most of the game, but
rallied late in the third quarter. Bingham got big shots from Shad
Sommerville and Nate Girsberger to cut the lead to two with three
minutes left, but couldn't get closer. Sommerville led with 23 points.
Oly's best moment: Oly shot well (53 percent) and got a great game
from Paulos, who finished with 22 points and was a perfect (6-6) from
the free-throw line. Oly built a 15-point lead in the third quarter before
Bingham rallied.
Statistical notes: Ben Clifford was in foul trouble most of the game,
and he still had a good game with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Michael
Arnell and Sommerville fouled out. Bingham was 4-22 from three-
point land. Rebounding was about even.
What we learned from this game: This was Bingham's first loss, but
it wasn't a bad one. The Miners have all kinds of leadership, but need
someone other than their big three players to score.

Dec. 11 - Bingham 58, Davis 49
Story of the game: Ben Clifford scored 20 points and Shad
Sommerville 19 as Bingham held off Davis and claimed an
impressive road win in a non-region game.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners went to Clifford early and that
resulted in a 13-4 first-quarter lead. Davis made several runs
throughout the game, but Bingham would step up its defense and
stay ahead.
Davis' best moment: The Darts got 18 points from Trevor Webb and
10 from Morgan Dunford. Davis went on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter
to narrow the gap to two points, but couldn't get closer. This was the
Darts' first loss of the season.
Statistical notes: Bingham shot 48 percent from the field and 70
percent from the line. Clifford hit 6-8 FTs in the final minutes to seal
the win. Bingham led 30-23 at halftime. Davis won at Bingham last
year.
What we learned from this game: A good road win because few
teams win at Davis, and Bingham kept its No. 1 ranking.

Dec. 8 - Bingham 56, Fremont 39
Story of the game: Ben Clifford scored 16 points as Bingham pulled
away in the third quarter and downed Fremont, despite a poor
shooting night.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners trailed 20-17 at halftime and
were 1-10 from the free-throw line at one point. Bingham went on a
16-2 run in the third quarter and its defense prevented Fremont from
rallying.
Fremont's best moment: The Silverwolves employed a physical
defense that got Bingham out of rhythm, and put Miners G Shad
Sommerville in foul trouble. Patrick Fishburn had 16 points and Jacob
Nish 12
Statistical notes: Bingham outscored Fremont 39-19 in the second
half. Sommerville had 10 points and Ty Hannay nine as eight different
players scored.
What we learned from this game: The Miners had to battle because
they were taken out of their game, and got back into it with heightened
defensive play, especially on the perimeter.

Dec. 4 - Bingham 84, Bountiful 48
Story of the game: Hot-shooting Nate Girsberger led Bingham with
21 points as the Miners whipped Bountiful with 11 three-point
baskets and routed the Braves in a non-region game.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners led 17-13 after the first quarter
and went on a 25-7 run in the second period to build a comfortable
lead. Logan Parker had 16 points and Nate Clifford, who was double-
teamed most of the game, still had 10.
Bountiful's best moment: The Braves' defense couldn't contain
Bingham's shooters, and Bountiful couldn't keep up. Nick Williams
led with 10 points but the team didn't play its normal defensive game.
Statistical notes: Clifford added 10 rebounds and three blocked
shots, and was an inside presence. Five different Bingham players
knocked down treys.
What we learned from this game: Another dominating effort by
Bingham, who has earned its No. 1 ranking so far. A lot of players are
also getting playing time.

Dec. 1 - Bingham 68, Timpanogos 36
Story of the game: Nate Girsberger scored 16 points, and nailed
three treys, as Bingham jumped to an early lead and had no trouble
dispatching Timpanogos in the season opener for both teams.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners appeared to be in mid-season
form, taking a 17-6 first-period lead. They built it up over 20 points in
the third quarter and were able to empty their bench. Ben Clifford had
14 points and Logan Parker 11.
Timpanogos' best moment: The Timberwolves were overmatched,
although they did stay with Bingham in the second quarter. Perhaps it
was a good matchup because they know how much they need to
improve.
Statistical notes: Bingham hit nine three-pointers in the game. Ty
Hannay scored eight points, just a week after the 5A football title
game. Nine players scored for Bingham, which opened as the
Deseret News' top 5A team.
What we learned from this game: Bingham looked good. Really
good. It's great to start that way, but there's also something to be said
about peaking at the right time. How much can this team improve?
