Feb. 23 - Pleasant Grove 47, Bingham 43

Story of the game: MacKenzie Larson scored 18 points and Jennifer
Hamson had 12 as Pleasant Grove beat Bingham in the first round of
the 5A state tournament.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners trailed most of the game, but had
runs of 11-2 and 11-0 to stay close. Dezz Ramos led the way with 17
points, despite battling a box-and-one defense implemented by
Pleasant Grove.

Pleasant Grove's highlights: Larson and Hamson scored most of
the points, but Rebecca Clements was also hailed for nailing two
free throws with 16.5 seconds left to secure the win.

Statistical notes: Nicole Newbold nailed three of Bingham's five
three-pointers and finished with 13 points. Both teams shot 50
percent or less from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: This was a disappointing loss for
Bingham, which was a No. 1seed and had high hopes of advancing
in the state tourney.

Feb. 16 - Bingham 60, Taylorsville 33

Story of the game: Dezz Ramos, Nicole Newbold and Rachel Gines
had big nights as Bingham overwhelmed Taylorsville on "Senior
Night" and won the Region 3 championship.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners dominated the second quarter and
took a 17-point lead into halftime. Bingham played its "A" game, and
shot 16-16 from the free-throw line to set a team record.

Taylorsville's highlights: The Warriors could have tied for the region
title, but this outcome was decided early. Whitney Mitchell had a
decent game with 15 points and Sa'ane Lo'amanu added 11.

Statistical notes: Ramos had 18 points, Newbold 14 and Gines 12.
Taylorsville shot 8-19 from the free-throw line. Mitchell had the
game's only three-pointer.

What we learned from this game: The Miners won their first region
title in three years and go into the 5A state tournament as a No. 1
seed. They drew the Pleasant Grove-Granger winner in the first
round, and that's not necessarily a good matchup.

although they stayed with Bingham reserves in the fourth quarter.
Kacee Atkins topped West Jordan with nine points.

Statistical notes: Bingham had a couple of players who hadn't

on this night.

a big road win, and it set up next week's game against Taylorsville
that will decide the Region 3 title.

Feb. 9 - Bingham 58, Kearns 33

Story of the game: Dezz Ramos scored a season-high 20 points as
Bingham rolled past Kearns with a big fourth quarter in a Region 3
game.

Bingham's highlights: This game was closer than the score
indicated. Bingham led 41-31 going into the final period, but
outscored Kearns 17-2 to make the game look like a rout. Chalese
Fankhauser added nine and three different Miners hit three-pointers.

Kearns' highlights: The Cougars played tough for three quarters on
Bingham's home court. Fa Afatasi scored nine points, and Micaelee
Orton played for the first time in two months.

Statistical notes: Bingham shot 15-20 from the free-throw line.
Kearns was 2-5. The Miners swept the season series, but Kearns
played well both times.

What we learned from this game: Bingham took sole possesion of
first place since Riverton beat Taylorsville again. Bingham just needs
to keep winning and it will earn the Region 3 title.

of the season, and stayed right with Bingham until late. Jessica
Cruse led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points.

Statistical notes: There were no three-point baskets in this game.
Copper Hills was credited with 12 steals.

What we learned from this game: Bingham was coming off its huge
win over Riverton, and was probably due for a letdown. Fortunately, it
didn't hurt. This could have been the biggest upset of the season.

Jan. 28 - Bingham 32, Riverton 30

Fankhauser made a big defensive play late in the game as Bingham

quarter and took a 21-17 lead at intermission. Megan Johnson
topped the Silverwolves with 10 points in this defensive-minded
matchup.

of the season and gave the Miners a chance to end the
regular-season as the Region 3 champion.

Jan. 26 - Taylorsville 43, Bingham 42 (OT)

Story of the game: Whitney Mitchell scored 17 points, including the
tying three-point basket late in regulation, as Taylorsville upset
Bingham and forced a tie for first place in Region 3.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners had balanced scoring, but gave up
a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter. Chalese Fankhauser had 11
points and Nicole Newbold and Rachel Gines 10.

Taylorsville's highlights: Mitchell hit another key three-pointer in the
overtime, and Sa'ane Lo'amanu scored all 11 of her points in the
second half for the Warriors. Alyssa Moncrief added nine.

Statistical notes: Bingham made 13-18 free throws, while
Taylorsville was 11-20, but Lo'amanu made all five of her charity
shots. Dezz Ramos didn't reach double figures for the first time in
nine games. Bingham dropped to 1-2 in overtime games.

What we learned from this game: Going undefeated isn't easy, and
Bingham was knocked off its perch, at least temporarily. Taylorsville
showed it can compete for the region title, too.

but ended up suffering their biggest loss - to date - of the region

Statistical notes: Bingham got off to a slow start and led just 14-12
after the first quarter. Both teams shot about 70 percent from the
free-throw line. Ramos had the game's only three-pointer.

dominance over the Jags with a relatively easy victory. The Miners
seem to have a lot more depth over every team, except perhaps
Riverton.

Jan. 19 - Bingham 50, Kearns 34

Story of the game: Dezz Ramos scored 13 points and Nicole
Newbold had 12, but the real story was how well Bingham's defense
played in the second half in its Region 3 win over Kearns.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners trailed 28-27 at halftime, but
dominated the second half while limiting Kearns to six second-half
points. Rachel Gines added nine points.

and improved to 3-0 in region.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners played great defense and the third

down the stretch, to hang on to the win and end a four-game losing

that they didn't think about Rasmussen's record, but this was an
exciting game where both teams played passionately.

13 points as Bingham built a comfortable first-half lead and held off
Jordan to stay undefeated.

Bingham's highlights: Gines, Nicole Newbold and Dezz Ramos each
reached double figures and played the major roles as Bingham took
a 32-15 halftime lead. The defense faltered in the second half, but
the Miners hit their charity shots at the end.

Jordan's highlights: Jordan was coming off its first win of the season
the night before but couldn't keep the momentum going. Madison
Naylor led the Beetdiggers with 14 points and BreeAnn Monson had
nine.

Statistical notes: Monson had two of Jordan's three treys; Bingham
had none. Ramos hit double figures for the third time in four games.
She seems the likely candidate to be Bingham's top scorer so far.

What we learned from this game: This wasn't Bingham's best effort,
but it was good enough for win No. 4. This is also a busy stretch
where the Miners play four games in eight days.

Dec. 4 - Bingham 47, Weber 35

Story of the game: Dezz Ramos scored 13 points and Chalese
Frankhauser added 10 as Bingham built a 10-point halftime lead and
held off Weber in a non-region game.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners led 11-6 after one quarter and
26-16 at intermission. They spent a lot of time at the free-throw line
and hit enough of their shots to keep a comfortable lead.

Weber's highlights: The Warriors never let Bingham get too far
ahead and Erica Olpin had 10 points to keep the game interesting.
Weber fell to 0-4 with the loss, but all four defeats have come against
good teams.

Statistical notes: Bingham shot 21-32 from the free-throw line.
Weber was 11-17. Meghan Herrick, Nicole Newbold and Rachel
Gines each had seven points.

What we learned from this game: This won't go down in the history
books as one of Bingham's biggest wins, but the Miners turned back
each of Weber's rallies in their first road game of the season.

Dec. 2 - Bingham 62, Davis 30

Story of the game: Meghan Herrick and Chalese Fankhauser led a
balanced scoring attack with 10 points apiece to lead Bingham past
an inexperienced Davis team in a non-region game.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners led 33-21 at halftime, pulled away
in the second half and used their bench to turn the game into a rout.
Nicole Newbold added nine points as 12 players reached the
scoring column.

Davis' highlights: This was good experience for the Darts, who lost
seven seniors from last year's team. Betsy McCausland was the
scoring lead with seven points.

Statistical notes: Bingham shot just 41.7 percent (10-24) from the
free-throw line. Bingham outscored Davis 14-3 in the final period.

What we learned from this game: The Miners played much better
than the opener - on both offense and defense. The home fans were
probably glad to see it.

Nov. 24 - Bingham 39, Cottonwood 36 (OT)

Story of the game: Nicole Newbold and Dezz Ramos scored 10
points apiece as Bingham escaped with a narrow non-region win
over Cottonwood.

Bingham's highlights: The Miners took a 11-6 lead after the first
period, but fell apart in the third quarter when they scored just two
points. Both teams shot poorly, but Bingham outscored Cottonwood
7-4 in the overtime.

Cottonwood's highlights: This was a winnable game for the Colts,
who outscored Bingham 6-2 in the third quarter to take a one-point
lead. Fehi Fakailoatonga led Cottonwood with 11 points.

Statistical notes: Bingham was 9-15 from the free-throw line.
Cottonwood was just 4-11. Both teams made two three-pointers.
McKenzie Anderson added seven points for Cottonwood.

What we learned from this game: It was the season opener for both
teams and Bingham got the win in a poorly played game. The Miners
also didn't get the normal response from their deep bench.
