Nov. 21 - Alta 21, Bingham 17
Story of the game - QB
Ammon Olsen likely
solidified his candidacy as
5-A's MVP, engineering a
fourth-quarter comeback
from a 17-6 deficit to lift Alta
to its second straight 5-A
state football
championship.
Bingham's best moment -
The Miners had their
chances. Their defense,
especially the line play,
dominated Alta most of the
game and held the Hawks
to their lowest output of the
season. Alta player said
they knew they would rally
to win, but few others did.
Alta's best moment -Late
in the third quarter, Olson
gave his offense a sideline
speech, and suddenly it
was him who became the
different player. He led an
80-yard drive, with a two-
point conversion to cut the
lead to 17-14. Later, he
hit Parker Webster on a
long pass and then scored the game-winner himself with 34 seconds
to play.
What we learned from this game - While there is no state
championship trophy, the Miners did improve more than any other
team during the season, and several players will likely earn better
memories at the collegiate level.
Next: The championship game ends the season for high school
football in Utah.

Nov. 13 - Bingham 37, Skyline 15
Story of the game - Sophomore RB Harvey Langi rushed for 174 yards
and two touchdowns and the Miners jumped to an early 24-0 lead and
avenged an early season loss to Skyline with a convincing 5-A
semifinal victory.
Bingham's best moment - This game belonged to Bingham from the
start. Skyline fumbled on its first play, and Langi scored twice and Mike
Edmunds caught a long TD pass to make it 24-0.
Skyline's best moment - The Eagles recovered late in the first half and
scored on a short run by RB Algernon Brown. Skyline, however, never
could get within two scores and had problems with fumbles and
punting.
What we learned from this game - It was Bingham's 11th straight win
and proved again that this isn't the same Miners team that started the
season. Check out coach Dave Peck's quote: "When I came to
Bingham, I kept saying my goal is to get to the point where Bingham is
respected like Skyline is. I don't know if we're there yet, but I sure like
the way we played today."
Next: Bingham advances to the 5-A title game and will play Nov. 21 at
6:30 p.m. against Alta at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Skyline is done for the
season.

Nov. 7 - Bingham 48, Jordan 20
Story of the game - The Miners took advantage of five Jordan
interceptions, jumped to a quick 21-0 lead and whipped the
Beetdiggers at home for the second time this season.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners offense was explosive. QB Jake
Soffe completed 11 of 17 passes for 290 yards and three scores, and
RB Harvey Langi ran for 178 yards on 16 carries. For the second
straight week, Bingham erased the chance of an upset right away.
Jordan's best moment - Down by 21 only seven minutes into the
game, QB Alex Hart rallied the Diggers with a pair of TD passes to Cory
Hart. That's as close as Jordan would get.
What we learned from this game - That's 10 straight wins for
Bingham, which makes the Miners the hottest 5-A team going into the
"Final Four" at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Right now, opponents can't find a
weak spot.
Next: Jordan is done for the season. Bingham advances to the 5-A
semifinals against Skyline.

Oct. 31 - Bingham 42, Northridge 7
Story of the game - Bingham's running attack netted 273 yards and
Colton Yack returned an interception 82 yards as the Miners shook off
rumors of a possible first-round upset and buried Northridge in a 5-A
playoff game.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners dominated, scoring on their first
two drives and then, when Northridge appeared ready to cut the lead in
half, Yack's interception returned ended that chance. Once Bingham
led 42-7, the clock ran faster due to the UHSAA's "mercy rule," which
officially means this was a rout.

Bingham's Mike Edmunds catches at TD
pass, despite pass interference from the
Alta defender.
Northridge's best moment - QB Junior Cole hit Blake Smithing on a 55-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. The Knights were able
to move the ball passing, but their running attack totaled one yard, thanks to several sacks.
What was learned from the game - Bingham might be the 5-A favorite. The Miners have a great offense, but their defense was the key
in this game and may be the difference as they move toward the finals.
Next week - Bingham will play host to Jordan, whom it beat 27-7 in Week 4. Northridge is done for the year.

Oct. 23 - Bingham 51, Copper Hills 7
Story of the game - QB Jake Soffe passed for two touchdowns and Inoke Taufalele scored twice, including a 98-yard kickoff return to
start the second half and Bingham crushed Copper Hills in the final regular-season game for both teams.
Bingham's best moment - This game was never in doubt. Harvey Langi, Cameron Edmunds, L.T. Filiaga, Remington Peck, Taufalele
and Braeden Loveless scored in the first half as Bingham built a 38-0 lead.
Copper Hills' best moment - Late in the game, QB Josh Soter connected with Chandler Johnson on an 87-yard scoring pass that ended
the shutout bid.
What was learned from the game - The Miners are to be feared in post-season play. They have won eight straight games. The
post-season will be interesting.
Next week - Bingham opens the 5-A playoffs with a home game against Northridge. Copper Hills is done.

Oct. 15 - Bingham 41, Hunter 7
Story of the game - QB Jake Soffe passed for 218 yards and three TDs and - once again - the Miners offensive and defensive lines
dominated in their easy win over Hunter that clinched the Region 2 title for Bingham.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners led 24-0 at halftime. The defense stifled Hunter until the final minutes of the second quarter,
when the Wolverines moved down the field were stopped on a pass interception by Braden Anderson.
Hunter's best moment - Trailing 34-0, QB Brett Lunceford connected with Fine Feinga for the Wolverines' only touchdown. The
momentum was quickly dashed when Bingham returned the ensuing kickoff for a score.
What was learned from the game - There is a big difference between Bingham and the rest of Region 2. The Miners can look forward to
post-season play in the position it wanted to be, so the two losses at the start of the season didn't hurt.
Next week - Bingham plays at Copper Hills. Hunter returns home to take on Riverton.

Oct. 10 - Bingham 48, Riverton 21
Story of the game - Travis McRae returned a fumble 95 yards for a touchdown, and the Miners stopped Riverton twice inside the 10-yard
line en route to a convincing win over the Silverwolves. The victory put Bingham in sole possession of first place in Region 3.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners extended the lead to 27-7 on an impressive six-play drive to open the second half that L.T. Filiaga
capped with a 15-yard touchdown reception from Jake Soffe. It was the third touchdown pass of the game for Soffe, who connected with
Remington Peck and Mike Edmunds in the first half.
Riverton's best moment - There were plenty, but the Silverwolves didn't take advantage. Mike Maughan, for example, returned a kickoff to
Bingham's 4-yard line, but Riverton missed a field goal. RB Zach Spencer had TD runs of 71 and 64 yards in the second half.
What was learned from the game - The Miners are back, and in sole possession of first place in Region 3. This was a big victory on
Riverton's home field, and Bingham was impressive.
Next week - Bingham returns home to take on Hunter. Riverton travels to Kearns.

Oct. 2 - Bingham 42, Kearns 10
Story of the game - Jake Soffe completed 8 of 11 passes for 204 yards and the Bingham offense put together several quick scores to
earn the easier-than-expected Region 3 win. It was the Miners' fifth straight.
Bingham's best moment - The defense dominated, holding Kearns to 28 first-half yards. Soffe had earned most of the headlines this
year, but he shared the spotlight here because Mike Edmunds and Matt Green used their talents to turn Soffe's passes into scores.
Kearns' best moment - The Cougars' offense has struggled all season, so when Bingham finally earned a 21-0 lead, the game was
virtually over. Kearns scored on a first-half field goal and late TD by RB Alamoti Vaenuku.
What was learned from the game - Kearns is a middle-of-the-pack team. The Cougars have beaten the lower-echelon schools, but
have been riddled by the better schools. It seems like a repeat of last year.
Next week - Kearns returns home to take on another "middle" team in Copper Hills. Bingham travels to Riverton.

Sept. 25 - Bingham 38, West Jordan 7
Story of the game - QB Jake Soffe completed 11 of 16 passes for 210 yards and the Bingham offensive and defensive lines proved
dominant as the Miners whipped previously unbeaten West Jordan in its Region 3 opener.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners led 7-0 after the first quarter, then added 24 points in the second. The big play was a 77-yard TD
pass from Soffe to Jordan Allen. Harvey Langi also had two scores in the game as Bingham showed it's likely to still be the top team in
the region.
West Jordan's best moment - The Jags didn't score until the fourth quarter, when the game was out of reach. QB Jace Rogers hit
Tyson Udy on a 39-yard scoring pass. The Jags' D.J. Tialavea was not a factor.
What we learned from this game - Bingham is back, and its strength is in its line. The Miners have given up just one TD in each of the
last three games and have regrouped since starting with two losses.
Next - Bingham has a home game against Kearns. West Jordan plays at Riverton.

Sept. 19 - Bingham 24, Lone Peak 8
Story of the game - RB Harvey Langi helped Bingham's ball-control offense, rushing for 98 yards and a touchdown, and the defense did
not allow a single first down in the opening half in a 24-8 non-region road win.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners never let this game get away. The offense held the ball most of the first half and took a 10-0 lead.
Then, on the opening drive of the second half, Colton Yack scored to help the Miners keep the momentum. The crowd never got into the
game.
Lone Peak's best moment - Trailing 24-0, QB Tannon Pederson completed several passes to WR Chandler Allphin, including a 30-yard
TD. The two also hooked up on the two-point conversion. Lone Peak moved the ball in the game's final moments, but was stopped in
the red zone.
What we learned from this game - The game was played in a howling wind, which may have limited both team's passing. Bingham
has won three straight, and has done it convincingly. Defense wins titles, and the Miners are following that theory.
Next - The Miners return home to play rival West Jordan in their Region 3 opener. Lone Peak takes on Lehi at home.

Sept. 12 - Bingham 27, Jordan 7
Story of the game - The Miners celebrated their school's 100th birthday and finally broke in their revamped stadium with a tough
non-region win over Jordan that evened their record to 2-2. Bingham's defense was tough, holding the Beetdiggers to a season-low 7
points. L.T. Filiaga led the way with two sacks.
Bingham's best moment - For many people, it was probably the opening kickoff in the new stadium. The Miners had been waiting for
that moment for a long time. On the field, Cole Yack and Bridger Peck had key INTs and the offense was able to control the ball and keep
Jordan's offense off the field.
Jordan's best moment - Tyler Brown's 13-yard run was the Diggers only score. Jordan did manage to move the ball at times, but INTs
hurt. Corey Hunt returned a punt for a score, but it was nullified by a penalty. Coach Alex Jacobson said he's ready for region. With the
schedule Jordan has played, they ought to be.
What we learned from this game - Bingham is 2-2, and seemingly back on track. The Miners need to be because there are no gimmes
in Region 3 this year. The stadium is the top of the line, and the envy of every other school.
Next - Bingham travels to play Lone Peak. Jordan returns home to play Riverton. It's the last non-region game for both.

was broadcast locally on TV. To read the Deseret News story, click here. To read the Salt Lake Tribune's article, click here. To view the

Sept. 5 - Bingham 49, Fremont 21
Story of the game - Finally ... the Miners got their offense untracked. Bingham QB Jake Soffe completed 11 of 12 passes for 227 yards
and four TDs. Most importantly, it was the Miners' first win. Confidence is high ... I repeat ... confidence is high. Finally.
Bingham's best moment - Bingham led 35-0 at halftime. The defense stopped Fremont on "3 and out" every time but once. The offense
got the ball with great field position and rolled. Everyone pointed to the Miners' offensive line as the reason they fared so well.
Fremont's best moment - It had to be the second half. Trailing 35-0, Silverwolves' QB Cameron Hadley rallied his team with three TD
passes.
What was learned from the game - A lot of people have been waiting for this game after two straight losses, and Bingham didn't
disappoint. Check out coach Dave Peck's quote: "We're showing signs of the old Bingham. You can see what we're capable of when
things are clicking."
Next week - More good news. The Miners will finally play in their revamped home stadium, playing host to Jordan. Fremont has Layton
coming to visit.

Aug. 29 - Alta 27, Bingham 19
Story of the game - The Miners' offense wasn't as potent as it needed to be, and now Bingham is 0-2 to start the season. There's no
reason to be too worried since it's still non-league play, but don't look for Bingham to be highly ranked anytime soon.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners' special teams was just that - special. Dane Lobdell returned a kickoff for a touchdown and
Colton Yack had a long punt return that set up another score. Bingham led 17-3 at the end of the first quarter, so its defense did a nice
job for a time, too.
Alta's best moment - QB Ammon Olsen passed for 309 yards and three TDs. Despite the early deficit, the Hawks didn't get nervous.
Their defense kept Bingham in check, so the offense had plenty of time to get its act together in front a full house at its home field.
What was learned from the game - Road games are tough. Road games against top-level opponents make it tougher. Bingham is 0-2,
but playing against good teams may pay off in the long run.
Next week - The Miners have yet another road game - at Fremont. Alta also travels to play Kearns.

the Salt Lake Tribune's article, click here. For detailed game statistics, click here.
Aug. 22 - Skyline 24, Bingham 17
Story of the game - How many times does it need to be said? You can never count Skyline out. This school has so much tradition in
football that losing is not considered an option. It's no wonder kids want to play football there.
Bingham's best moment - At the start of the third quarter, Bingham needed to show what it was made of. It drove 70 yards, passing the
ball just once. The Miners basically rammed the ball down Skyline's throat and it worked - TOUCHDOWN. But it wasn't enough.
Skyline's best moment - Since Bingham's field wasn't quite ready, Skyline got to play this game (again) on its home field. The Eagles
had to love avenging last year's big loss. The whole game was Skyline's best moment and now the Eagles have to be considered a
"dangerous" team. In some cases, Skyline may be able to win games on reputation.
What was learned from the game - Why was this game not covered by TV or radio? I don't know either. Skyline may be back in the 5-A
race once again. Bingham, meanwhile, has to play at Alta next week. What would two straight losses do to the Miners' psyche? That's
why we play these games. This might have been considered an upset, but only time will tell.
Next week - Bingham plays at Alta in what it has to figure is a "must-win" game. Skyline has a home game against East. Both should
be fun to watch.
