to down Fremont for its second straight 5A state title.

staying competitive in the second half. They lost their starting QB to
injury early and ended up with five guys calling signals.
Statistical notes - Bingham intercepted five passes for the second
second time in the postseason. Cantwell had 226 yards passing.

catches.

team in the state this year, and the Miners avoided any pitfalls for the
second straight season.

20-14, in the other semifinal.

Oct. 30 - Bingham 34, Hunter 0
Story of the game - Inoke Taufalele rushed for 150 yards and QB
Stefan Cantwell threw three touchdown passes to lift Bingham past
Hunter in the first round of the 5A state playoffs.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners played without RB Harvey Langi,
who had been suspended for one game, but didn't need him. The
defense recorded its fourth shutout of the season. Bingham led 20-0
at halftime, and part of the second half was played in the rain.
Hunter's highlights - While the Wolverines' offense struggled, the
defense can claim to hold Bingham to its lowest point total of the
season, and forced two fumbles and an interception. QB Peter
Fuimaona passed for over 100 yards.
Statistical notes - The win was Bingham's 20th straight and fifth
straight in the postseason. Langi will be back for next week's contest.
The school record for most shutouts in a season is five (three times).

opponent, having finished tied for second place in Region 2, but
Bingham did not have trouble. The Miners haven't lost at home since
2007.
Next - Bingham plays host to Northridge Nov. 6. Hunter finished the
season with a 7-4 record.

seven different players. K Kyle Duke tied a school record for most
PATs in a game (8). Bingham is assured of breaking the school mark
for highest points (average) scored/game.

Oct. 13 - Bingham 52, Riverton 13

lead. Brady Measom caught three touchdown passes, and Bingham's

Miners outrushed Riverton. A huge crowd, estimated at 8,000 fans,
jammed Riverton's stadium for this game.
What we learned from this game - This was supposed to be
Bingham's biggest threat during the regular season, but the Miners
were ready. Winning the region is now a formality.
Next - Bingham plays host to Taylorsville on "Senior Night" Oct. 21.
Riverton plays host to Herriman.

Story of the game - Stefan Cantwell threw three second-half
touchdowns as Bingham got a scare from West Jordan, but rallied for
the Region 3 victory.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners trailed 16-10 at halftime, but
Cantwell hit Sean Larson for a 70-yard touchdown and then an
interception set another score. Bingham outscored West Jordan 40-8
in the second half.
West Jordan's highlights - The Jags had Bingham - and its
homecoming crowd - worried as Adam Boelter threw two TD passes
in the first half and the defense had held the Miner to easily their
lowest total of the season.

Sept. 30 - Bingham 63, Copper Hills 0
Story of the game - Harvey Langi rushed for 99 yards and scored
three times, and Logan Parker, Jake Bright and Inoke Taufalele had
returns for touchdowns to help Bingham blitz Copper Hills in a
Region 3 game.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners easily set a school record with 49
first-quarter points, dominating more here than in any other game.
Coach Peck emptied the bench, and the clock ran continuously after
the first period. Bingham held the Grizzlies to 47 total yards and one
first down.
Copper Hills' highlights - There were few. However, coach Ka'i
Kapele was pleased that his team competed until the end.
Sophomore QB Dustin Soter was hurt early in the game and didn't
return. Tommy Ligman was the top rusher.
Statistical notes - The Miners averaged almost 11 yards per snap,
and their longest offensive scoring drive was just four plays. Langi got
the ball just six times and scored on half of them. He and Taufalale
also had potential TDs stopped short with fumbles.
What we learned from this game - There is a huge difference
between the top and bottom of this region. This was possibly the
most dominating win of any Utah team this season. The 49 points
was the most scored in one quarter by a Utah school since 1926.
Next - Bingham has its homecoming game against West Jordan Oct.
8. Copper Hills travels to Herriman.

quarter and routed Kearns in a Region 3 game.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners led just 14-0 at halftime, but
opened it up with a team record 31 points in the third quarter. Langi
ran 58 yards for a score and Ogden and Cannon returned
interceptions for scores. The defense didn't give up a score until late.
Kearns' highlights - The Cougars stayed with Bingham in the first half
with a conservative offense and tough defense, but then things got out
of hand quickly. Kearns' touchdown came on a 73-yard pass from QB
Mike Hickenlooper to Keanu Solovi.
Statistical notes - Bingham's last three scores came on two INT
returns and Taufalele's punt return. QB Stefan Cantwell was 7-12 for
147 yards and two TDs. Kearns missed a 44-yard field goal in the first
half.
What we learned from this game - This was a tough day for
Bingham because DL Seni Fauonoku had to be suspended for two
games following a legal issue from last spring, and it affected the
team. Bingham regrouped and won in another blowout.
Next - Bingham travels to Copper Hills Sept. 30 (Thurs.). Kearns
plays host to Herriman.

Tribune article, click here. For the Deseret News box score, click here.
Sept. 17 - Bingham 48, Herriman 0
Story of the game - Stefan Cantwell passed for three touchdowns
and Harvey Langi rushed for 170 yards as Bingham scored on its first
eight possessions and routed Herriman in a Region 3 game.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners led 45-0 by halftime and were
never threatened. The defense held Herriman to 23 yards total
offense, and substituted freely. Cantwell also rushed for a touchdown.
Herriman's highlights - The highlight for the Mustangs was that some
of the players got to play against their former teammates. Herriman
didn't come close to scoring, but really didn't embarrass itself either.
Statistical notes - Kyle Duke hit a couple of field goals for the Miners.
Cantwell also had a 26-yard touchdown run. It was Bingham's
second shutout so far this season.
What we learned from this game - Bingham won this game handily,
and called off the dogs after halftime. There was a good crowd on
hand, and a good atmosphere.
Next - BIngham returns home to play Kearns Sept. 24. Herriman
plays at Brighton in a non-region game.

Tribune story, click here. For the Deseret News brief, click here.
Sept. 2 - Bingham 48, Pleasant Grove 3
Story of the game - QB Stefan Cantwell had a breakout game,
passing for three touchdowns and running for two more, as Bingham
rolled to its third impressive win of the season.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners led 7-3 after the first quarter, then
put the game away with six straight possessions that resulted in
touchdowns. The "35-point" rule was implemented and the clock ran
continuously in the final period.
Pleasant Grove's highlights - After Bingham's first score, QB Paul
Hatch had a couple of nice completions to Jackson Giles and Skyler
Munson that led to a field goal. Zack Christensen came in later and
led a nice drive, but it ended without any points.
Statistical notes - PG had about 130 yards total offense, but the
running game netted about 1 yard/carry. Bingham statistics were
unavailable.
What we learned from this game - The Miners rolled to an easy win
in their first home game of the season. Bingham is easily the best
team in Utah, and Region 4 may not be the caliber it was last season.
Next - Bingham is off until playing at Herriman Sept. 17. Pleasant
Grove opens Region 4 play at Hillcrest Sept. 10.

Aug. 28 - Bingham 49, Alta 26
Story of the game - Harvey Langi rushed for 221 yards and
Bingham's defense came up with a pair of fourth-quarter scores to
lead the Miners to a convincing non-region win over Alta in the much-
anticipated "Black and Blue" Classic at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners led from the start. Langi finished
with four touchdowns, including a 50 and 45-yard runs. His 50-yarder
made it 35-18, and then Jared Afalava returned an INT for a score and
Logan Parker set up another with a pick.
Alta's highlights - The Hawks couldn't run the ball, so QB Boston
Handley picked up the slack with 274 passing yards and three
touchdowns. RB Jovon London also had some nifty runs late in the
game. Alta also played with class, despite the disappointing loss.
Statistical notes - Bingham had won the last three games between
these two teams. This was Langi's best-ever game against Alta, and
second-best of his career (Jordan, 2008). The 49 points given up was
the most by Alta since 2001 (Brighton). The game lasted over three
hours and didn't end until almost 11:30 p.m.
What we learned from this game - This was perceived as the game
between the state's top two teams. Bingham may be for real, but Alta
hasn't proven it. The Hawks, however, face the toughest preseason of
any Utah school, and could easily rally back.
Next - Bingham plays Pleasant Grove Sept. 2 at home. Alta travels to
take on 4A power Timpview Sept. 3.

Aug. 20 - Bingham 51, Viewmont 0
Story of the game - Inoke Taufalele and Josh Smith scored a pair of
touchdowns, and Kyle Duke kicked three field goals to help Bingham
whitewash Viewmont in both team's season opener.
Bingham's highlights - The Miners dominated in every aspect. While
the offense put up 51 points, the defense held Viewmont to just 39
total yards, and the special teams averaged over 30 yards per punt
return.
Viewmont's highlights - The Vikings impressed the top-ranked
Miners by never quitting, despite the score. Coach Brad Lloyd said he
was proud how the team competed. Bryant Dixon led Viewmont on
defense with seven tackles and Haden Heath, Taylor O’Neal and
Jordan Johnston all had five.
Statistical notes - It was Bingham's most lopsided win since 1999,
making it the biggest win in the Dave Peck era. Harvey Langi rushed
for 89 yards.
What we learned from this game - Bingham is for real, and the
Miners showed it. They are not just a one-man team, but have talent
and experience everywhere.
Next - Bingham plays Alta at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Viewmont opens
Region 1 play with a home game against Weber.
