March 2 - COPPER HILLS (L 57-67)
* - Region 4 games. Home games in CAPS

March 2 - Copper Hills 67, Brighton 57
Story of the game: Steven Larson scored 11 of his game-high 28
points in the fourth quarter as Copper Hills held off Brighton in one
of the biggest upsets on opening day of the 5A state tourney.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals trailed by double digits for
most of the first half, but rallied behind senior Sam Wunderli to
actually take the lead entering the fourth quarter. Brighton had an
18-2 run at one point.
Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies avenged a loss in the
season opener, and led by 20 points (34-14) in the first half. Larson
had help from teammate Steven Cordova, who had 22 points.
Copper Hills played much better defense this time and picked up
some much-needed momentum.
Statistical notes: Larson and Cordova combined for 50 points. The
Grizzlies also had a big advantage at the free-throw line. Only seven
players scored for Brighton.
What we learned from this game: Brighton was expected to
challenge for the 5A state title. Instead, Copper Hills emerged the
time to beat. It was Brighton's only home loss all season.

Feb. 24 - Brighton 81, Pleasant Grove 34
Story of the game: Corbin Miller scored 15 points and Loi Masina
came off the bench to add 11 as Brighton had an easy time beating
Pleasant Grove in the final game of the regular season for both
teams.
Brighton's best moment: This game was never in doubt. The
Bengals wanted this win badly and set a season record with 31
points in the opening quarter. Coach Lyndon Johnson emptied the
bench and 17 different players scored on "Senior Night."
PG's best moment: The Vikings didn't come to win. They had third
place in Region 4 wrapped up and left leading scorer Sefa Tanoai
on the bench. Any PG fan should have left the gym early. Joe Kruger
led with eight points.
Statistical notes: This was Brighton's biggest win in a long time,
and coach Lyndon Johnson emptied the bench. The Bengals had
17 different players score.
What we learned from this game: Not much. Brighton won by 14 at
PG, but this game shouldn't even count because PG was
unresponsive. Brighton finished the season as a No. 2 see; PG
was No. 3.

Lake Tribune or Provo Herald.
Feb. 19 - Alta 61, Brighton 54
Story of the game: Jordan Brown scored 20 points and Austin
Albrecht led a 16-3 run late in the third quarter as Alta turned away
Brighton and captured the Region 4 championship.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals trailed most of the game,
but took the lead midway through the third quarter. Sam Wunderli hit
a couple of threes in the fourth to get Brighton within four points, but
it wasn't enough. Wunderli had 21 points, and Corbin Miller 11.
Alta's best moment: Albrecht scored eight points as Alta turned a
36-32 deficit into a 48-39 lead. The Hawks then hit enough free
throws to hang on and savour the moment in front of their home
crowd. Albrecht and Kyle Davis finished with 11 points.
Statistical notes: Albrecht's 11 was a season high. Both teams'
inside players had off nights. Wunderli had three of Brighton's six
three-pointers. Brown and Brayden Beckham each had a pair for
Alta. This was Brown's best-scoring game in two months.
What we learned from this game: The Bengals had their chance ...
and failed. Now, they need to focus on beating Pleasant Grove and
earning that No. 2 seed.

Feb. 12 - Brighton 68, Jordan 52
Story of the game: Austin Hudson, Sam Wunderli and Corbin Miller
each scored in double figures as Brighton grabbed the lead early
and went on to beat Jordan in a key Region 4 contest.
Brighton's best moment: Hudson scored the Bengals' first six
points that Brighton built into a 17-7 first-quarter lead. The Bengals
also didn't allow Jordan a three-point basket and held Kevin
Goldsmith to just seven points.
Jordan's best moment: The Beetdiggers made several runs,
including a 10-4 spurt in the third quarter that cut the margin to nine
points. Nate Monson topped Jordan with 15 points.
Statistical notes: Jordan made 20-of-28 free throws. Miller had
three of Brighton's five three-pointers. Hudson finished with 18
points, Wunderli 16 and Miller 14. Steve Morgan had nine points for
Jordan.
What we learned from this game: The win helped Brighton keep
pace with Alta, and set up a matchup next Friday that could decide
Region 4's top seed.

D-News story, click here. For the Salt Lake Tribune box score, click

Feb. 10 - Brighton 75, Hillcrest 61
Story of the game: Corbin Miller scored 25 points as Brighton
outlasted Hillcrest in a Region 4 contest.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals led throughout the game.
Miller had a big scoring night, but Brighton also substituted freely
and used its depth to wear down the Huskies. Sam Wunderli added
nine points and Jordan Wertz eight.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies stayed close, thanks mostly
to a 20-point effort by Bridger Dallimore and their inspired crowd.
Danny Thompson added 12 and Austin Adams 11.
Statistical notes: Miller has really come on lately and is now
Brighton's leading scorer. Dallimore scored 20+ points for the third
time this season, and helped make up for his bad night against
Brighton earlier.
What we learned from this game: This was a lot tougher game
than when these teams played earlier. Brighton wasn't really in
danger of losing, and now faces a tough matchup against Jordan.

the Deseret News brief, click here. For the Salt Lake Tribune box

Feb. 5 - Brighton 70, American Fork 63
Story of the game: Austin Hudson, Derek Newell and Loi Masina
each had one of their best efforts this season as Brighton built a
small lead in the first half and held off American Fork in a Region 4
game.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals held a 35-27 advantage at
halftime. Brighton dominated the rebounding, as Hudson had 12
boards and Masina 11. Newell had a season-high 15 points as
Brighton improved to 6-0 at home this season.
American Fork's best moment: The Cavmen put forth a strong
effort and almost pulled off the upset. Ryker Mathews had 17 points
and Quincy Bair 14. Ben Beddes had eight points and eight
rebounds.
Statistical notes: Sam Wunderli added 13 points and Corbin Miller
12 for Brighton. Austin Waddoups had a couple of three-pointers for
AF.
What we learned from this game: The Bengals got back on the
winning track with this win, but it didn't come easy. Brighton is tied
for first place with four games to go.

Jan. 29 - Lone Peak 67, Brighton 62
Story of the game: Tannon Pederson had one of his best games of
the season, scoring 22 points and picking up eight steals, as Lone
Peak edged Brighton in a Region 4 game.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals led for most of the first half,
but lost that advantage when Lone Peak changed its defense and
forced 10 second-half turnover. Brighton stayed close, getting 18
points from Corbin Miller and 17 by Austin Hudson.
Lone Peak's best moment: Lone Peak honored ex-player Jackson
Emery at halftime and then dominated the third quarter. Pederson
was the star of this game, and made 8-of-9 free throws (many late
in the game) to seal the win. Nick Emery added 16 points.
Statistical notes: Lone Peak shot 24-37 from the free-throw line.
Brighton was 14-20. Miller had three treys, the only ones Brighton
had. Lone Peak started a new home-court win streak after losing to
Jordan Wednesday night.
What we learned from this game: Brighton split the season series
with Lone Peak and is back into a tie for second place.

game, and the Deseret News had a reporter there, too. To read the

Jan. 27 - Brighton 64, Pleasant Grove 50
Story of the game: Corbin Miller scored 18 points and helped
Brighton earn a big first-half lead and beat Pleasant Grove in a
Region 4 game.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals got PG to play a fast-paced
game, and it worked to their advantage. Sam Wunderli hit
back-to-back threes midway through the second quarter to help
Brighton to an 11-point lead and Miller added another trey just
before intermission.
Pleasant Grove's best moment: Sefa Tanoai and Joe Kruger were
not as valuable in this fast-paced game, so Cory McAllister tried to
rally the team and finished with 18 points. Tanoai had 11.
Statistical notes: Brighton's depth showed as nine players scored.
Brighton shot 11-16 from the free-throw line. PG was just 5-12.
What we learned from this game: The Bengals picked up a quality
road win by their speed and depth and are now tied for first place in
Region 4 again.

D-News story, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune box score,

Jan. 22 - Brighton 71, Alta 65 (OT)
Story of the game: Corbin Miller scored 26 points, including 11 in
the fourth quarter, to lift Brighton past Alta in a thrilling overtime
game.
Brighton's best moment: Miller was the hero in the fourth quarter,
and then Miller and Matt Chaus made big plays in the overtime for
Brighton. Sam Wunderli finished with 14 points and Austin Hudson
and Derek Newell added seven apiece.
Alta's best moment: The game went back-and-forth, but the Hawks
had a nice 10-0 run early in the fourth period that gave them a 48-44
lead and set up the exciting end. Kyle Davis finished with 23 points
and Jordan Brown added 18.
Statistical notes: Alta's Mitch Winter had three treys and was fouled
on another attempt (and made all three free throws). Alta shot 16-22
from the FT line, while Brighton was 14-24.
What we learned from this game: Brighton rested up with a week
off and then beat Alta to move back into sole possession of first
place in Region 4.

game. To read the D-News story, click here. For the Salt Lake

Jan. 15 - Jordan 63, Brighton 56
Story of the game: Joe Mero scored 10 of his 16 points in the first
quarter as Jordan used a 15-0 run to build a big lead and then held
off Brighton in a key early season Region 4 game.
Brighton's best moment: Trailing 22-4 late in the first period, the
Bengals rallied and eventually cut the margin to 53-51 on a pair of
free throws by Sam Wunderli. Corbin Miller also came alive (again)
and nailed three treys.
Jordan's best moment: The first quarter defined this game, but so
did the final minutes. Jordan didn't wilt and stopped Brighton on
three straight possessions late to hold on to the win. Kevin
Goldsmith added 14 points and Nate Monson and Alex Hart 11
each.
Statistical notes: Jordan was just 18-34 from the free-throw line.
Brighton shot 13-14. Brighton's five-point effort in the first quarter
was its worst this year.
What we learned from this game: The loss dropped Brighton out
of first place, but that's not a big deal. Brighton had two days to
prepare for this game, while Jordan had a week. That was a big
deal.

game. To read the D-News story, click here. To view the Salt Lake
Tribune box score, click here. For the D-News photos, click here.
Jan. 13 - Brighton 63, Hillcrest 40
Story of the game: Austin Hudson had a big night with 13 points
and 12 rebounds, but the real story was Brighton's 21-2
second-quarter run that allowed the Bengals to beat Hillcrest in a
Region 4 game.
Brighton's best moment: Trailing 13-12, the Bengals thrilled the
home crowd by dominating the second period and took an 18-point
halftime lead. Corbin Miller added 11 points and Sam Wunderli had
10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies were in the game in the first
period, and frustrated the home team. Matt Pecht's two free throws
gave Hillcrest a 7-1 lead at one time. James Jongejan was the top
scorer with 11 points.
Statistical notes: Brighton buried seven three-pointers. Danny
Thompson had both of Hillcrest's treys. Both teams shot well from
the free-throw line. This was Hillcrest's worst loss of the season,
and Brighton's best defensive effort.
What we learned from this game: The Bengals improved to 3-0 in
Region 4 and are on top of the standings. Coach Johnson said
earlier that all region games would be close, but he could relax in
this one.

this game. To read the Trib's article, click here. For the Deseret

Jan. 8 - Brighton 62, American Fork 60
Story of the game: Loi Masina had a career-high 21 points, and
Corbin Miller had 16, including the winning basket with nine
seconds remaining, to lift Brighton to a Region 4 road win at
American Fork.
Brighton's best moment: Sam Wunderli was in foul trouble, so
Masina and Miller stepped up. Brighton took a big lead in the third
quarter, but saw it disappear. Tied 60-60, coach Lyndon Johnson
drew up the play and Miller hit the key shot.
American Fork's best moment: The Cavemen had a big crowd and
Marcel Davis keyed the comeback with a steal and a basket that
finally tied the game with 40 seconds left. Quincy Bair topped AF
with 21 points, while Ben Beddes had 18.
Statistical notes: One game after Brighton's bench shined, only five
players scored on this night. Wunderli still finished with 16. Davis
had six steals for AF.
What we learned from this game: Brighton earns another
heart-stopping win and moved to 2-0 in region. The Bengals seem
to have the most depth in the region, and showed they can win even
when a starter has foul troubles.
Links: The Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune sent repotters to
this game and Trib had a photographer there, too. To read the

Jan. 6 - Brighton 69, Lone Peak 66
Story of the game: Sam Wunderli scored 27 points and he and
Corbin Miller hit important free throws late in the game to help
Brighton rally past Lone Peak in a frenetic Region 4 game.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals trailed most of the game,
but rallied with a 9-0 spurt to start the fourth quarter. Miller finally got
hot, nailing three treys in the final period and Brighton's depth also
seemed to wear down the visitors.
Lone Peak's best moment: The Knights started quickly as
freshman Nick Emery and senior Tannon Pedersen rained down
three-pointers. Emery finished with 26 points and Pedersen 16.
Statistical notes: Emery was 6-7 on three-point shots. Brighton
outrebounded Lone Peak 30-20. The Bengals played 11 guys.
Austin Hudson had 12 points, including two threes.
What we learned from this game: This was a wild game, and
Brighton's depth, combined perhaps with Lone Peak's youth, made
a difference. The loss was Lone Peak's first this season. Coach
Lyndon Johnson said every Region 4 game could be like this.

Dec. 30 - Gillette, Wyo. 84, Brighton 80
Story of the game: Matt Mordecai scored 25 points and made a big
difference with his outside shooting as Gillette held off Brighton and
won the Gillette Energy Classic.
Brighton's best moment: The game went back and forth the entire
game and wasn't decided until the final seconds. Sam Wunderli
had 22 points and Corbin Miller had 21. Brighton, however, shot just
4-23 from three-point range.
Gillette's best moment: The Camels improved to 10-0, thanks for
Alan Sisel's three-pointer to give Gillette a 83-80 lead. Gillette shot
12-25 from three-point range. Sisel finished with 18 points.
Statistical notes: Brighton was 14-17 from the free-throw line.
Gillette was 8-14. There was a capacity crowd for this game. Austin
Hudson had 14 points. Wunderli and Miller were named to the
all-tournament team.
What we learned from this game: The Bengals barely missed on
their chance to win the tourney championship. Brighton improved a
lot by attending this tourney last year, and likely will this year, too.

Dec. 29 - Brighton 60, Wilson, Ore. 58
Story of the game: Corbin Miller scored 16 points, and Jordan
Wertz made a key steal in the final seconds that gave Brighton a win
over Wilson, Ore., and moved the Bengals into the championship
game of the Gillette Energy Classic.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals led most of the game,
carving out a 22-12 first-quarter advantage, and then hung on. Sam
Wunderli added 14 points and Austin Hudson and Loi Masina had
eight each.
Wilson's best moment: Wilson's Trevor Ritchie got hot in the fourth
quarter, scoring 12 of Wilson's 14 points, and finished with a
game-high 25. He had a chance to tie the game late, but could only
make one of two free throws.
Statistical notes: Brighton made 17-25 free throws. Wilson was
2-3. Miller had all three of Brighton's three-pointers. This was the
first time Brighton won its second-round game in four visits to
Gillette.
What we learned from this game: Another team effort. Wunderli
made a nice play, fouling a Wilson player when Brighton had a foul
to give. Then Wertz made the big steal that ended the game.

Dec. 28 - Brighton 76, Kelly Walsh, Wyo. 63
Story of the game: Corbin Miller scored 21 points and Sam
Wunderli had 18 as Brighton showed off its deep bench en route to
a convincing win over Kelly Walsh (of Casper, Wyo.) in the first
round of the Gillette Energy Classic.
Brighton's best moment: Brighton led throughout the game. The
Bengals held a 33-26 advantage at halftime, but put the game away
with a 26-point third quarter. Miller had four treys and Wunderli had
a pair.
Kelly Walsh's best moment: The Trojans tried to cut the margin in
the fourth quarter, but couldn't get close. Lucas Nolan was the
team's top scorer with 21 points. Thomas Manning had 11 points
and Taylor Robbins 10.
Statistical notes: Kelly Walsh hit 16-17 free throws. Brighton was
4-6. Austin Hudson had 10 points for Brighton. Ten different players
scored for the Bengals.
What we learned from this game: The Bengals put together a nice
team effort to record the win and move into the winners bracket.

Dec. 22 - Brighton 55, Riverton 44
Story of the game: Corbin Miller tied his season high with 18 points
as Brighton bounced back from its first loss by defeating Riverton in
a non-region game.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals started quickly (with
defense) and ended quickly (with offense). Brighton led most of the
game and also got 16 points from Sam Wunderli.
Riverton's best moment: Matt Hess had his best game this
season with 18 points. The Silverwolves battled back to get within
two points by the end of the third quarter.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot poorly from the free-throw line.
Brighton was 15-25 and Riverton 7-13. The Bengals benefited from
the foul differential. Riverton did a nice job on Brighton's inside
players (Austin Hudson and Xan Ricketts).
What we learned from this game: The Bengals had a good
defensive game, and will need it when they go to GIllette, Wyo., to
play the teams there. Brighton will likely return an even better team.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Dec. 18 - Bingham 74, Brighton 61
Story of the game: Michael Arnell had a season-high 17 points as
Bingham held off Brighton in a battle of 5A powers.
Brighton's best moment: The Miners' defense focused on stopping
Corbin Miller, so Sam Wunderli stepped up his game. He finished
with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Austin Hudson and Xan Ricketts
also had good games, but they were in foul trouble a lot.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners had to deal with Ben
Clifford's foul trouble, but guys like Arnell and Jordan Phouthavong
had their best games and Bingham was able to deal with each of
Brighton's runs.
Statistical notes: Miller, Ricketts and Hudson eventually fouled out.
Bingham spread the floor in the fourth quarter and hit enough free
throws to prevent a comeback. Clifford still scored 15 points and
Nate Girsberger had 12.
What we learned from this game: This was a tough, physical
game and Brighton's foul trouble hurt. The loss was Brighton's first,
but may have set up a potential rematch in the state tournament.

game. To read the D-News story, click here. To view the Salt Lake

Dec. 15 - Brighton 76, West Jordan 68
Story of the game: Jordan Wertz had a career high 19 points as
Brighton shook off West Jordan's well-played defensive effort and
beat the Jaguars in a non-region game.
Brighton's best moment: The Jags took Sam Wunderli out of the
game with a triangle-and-two defense. Wertz, however, nailed three
treys and Xan Ricketts and Austin Hudson had good games.
WestJordan's best moment: The Jags goal was to stop Corbin
Miller and Wunderli ... and it worked. Still, West Jordan fell behind by
10 at halftime. The Jags rallied behind Jesse Herrin and Jordan
Loveridge to nearly tie the game going into the final period.
Statistical notes: Wunderli had been averaging 20 points per
game, and had just two on this night. Miller was 4-17 from the field.
Ricketts' 15 points was a season high. The 76 points given up was
easily a season high for West Jordan's defense.
What we learned from this game: Brighton's depth paid off in this
game, and now the Bengals take on two more talented teams
before Christmas.

game. To read the D-News story, click here. To view the Salt Lake

Dec. 10 - Brighton 61, Northridge 45
Story of the game: Corbin Miller and Sam Wunderli showed off
their outside shooting talents, each nailing three treys, as Brighton
wore down Northridge in a non-region game.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals led for most of the game,
and had a 10-point advantage at halftime. Wunderli finished with 18
points and Miller had 17. Once again, Brighton had at least eight
players reach the scoring column.
Northridge's best moment: The Knights played tough, but couldn't
compete with Brighton's talent and depth. Casey Christiansen had
13 points and Jordan Galbraith 12, including a pair of treys.
Statistical notes: The Bengals moved to 3-0 and, for the second
straight night, had a good defensive game. Xan Ricketts had eight
points and Austin Hudson six.
What we learned from this game: Wunderli is showing off his
outside shooting skills, which could really add to his game. Now,
however, Brighton's schedule gets a little tougher.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 9 - Brighton 60, Judge Memorial 46

games as Brighton used its talent inside to turn back Judge
Memorial in a non-region game.
Brighton's best moment: Wunderli had 19 points and 11 rebounds,
and Hudson had 11 points and 11 rebounds to help Binghan
toward an 11-point halftime lead. Sharpshooter Corbin Miller added
12 points, including three treys.
Judge's best moment: Will Whitt and Zach Myaer each had 13
points apiece for Judge, which kept pace with Brighton in the
second half. Myaer had the team's only three-pointer.
Statistical notes: This game was played at a much slower pace
than the Brighton's opener, which was to Judge's advantage.
Brighton's depth showed as the Bengals had eight players score.
What we learned from this game: This was Brighton's home
opener, and the Bengals played well. Wunderli and Hudson were a
force inside. Brighton also got five points from Xan Ricketts.

Dec. 1 - Brighton 89, Copper Hills 82
Story of the game: Sam Wunderli started off the season on a high
note, scoring a career-high 33 points, as Brighton held off Copper
Hills in a game that included a furious fourth quarter.
Brighton's best moment: Brighton's senior starters played a big
role as the Bengals were able to score 31 points in the final quarter
to stave off the Grizzlies' rally. Corbin Miller had 18 points, including
four treys. Austin Hudson had 16 points inside.
Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies were in the game the
entire way, and got 27 points from Steven Cordova and 25 from
Steven Larson. Tyler Faalogo was the team's main outside threat
with a pair of three-pointers.
Statistical notes: Brighton had seven three-pointers, and Wunderli
even had a pair. Only seven players scored for each team in this
high-scoring game.
What we learned from this game: Both of these teams will
probably be near the top of their regions this year. This was a fun
game to watch, and had all of the excitement of a post-season
contest.
