Oct. 31 - Pleasant Grove 37, Brighton 10

Story of the game - QB Dallas Lloyd rushed for 111 yards and the
Vikings shook off injuries to their top running backs to beat Brighton in
a first-round 5-A playoff game.

Brighton's best moment - QB Jace Felix had a 67-yard run in the
Bengals' first possession that set up Anthony Mares' 25-yard FG.
Brighton couldn't muster much offense after that. Sophomore QB
Taylor Loomis scored late in the game.

Pleasant Grove's best moment - The Vikings' defense forced three
turnovers, and Jordon Edwards returned a punt 58 yards for a score.
This wasn't PG's best game, but it won handily against an outmanned
opponent.

What we learned from this game - This was a rebuilding season for
the Bengals, and they accomplished a lot. It set the table for next year,
and the Bengals' opponents know they'll be better.

Next: Brighton is done for the season. Pleasant Grove will play host to
Syracuse in a 5-A quarterfinal game.

Oct. 24 - Skyline 16, Brighton 0

Story of the game - Caleb Latteier intercepted a pass and returned it
92 yards for a touchdown to lift the Eagles into the third spot in the
Region 2 standings with a shutout win over Brighton.

Brighton's best moment - The Bengals played tough and trailed just
3-0 entering the fourth quarter. A running-into-the-kicker penalty
allowed Skyline to keep a drive going and resulted in a score. Brighton
was moving toward a TD with just a few minutes left when Latteier's
INT changed it all.

Skyline's best moment - The Eagles couldn't breathe easy until
Latteier's score. Skyline had 320 yards rushing, including 150  by
Algernon Brown. The Eagles fumbled seven times, and recovered
them all. If Brighton had grabbed just one, the game could have turned
out differently.

What we learned from this game - Brighton's offense still isn't where it
needs to be at this point of the season. The passing game is the key.
The Bengals have won when they have hit on a few long throws.

Next: Brighton made the 5-A playoffs, despite a 2-8 record. The
Bengals will play at Pleasant Grove (again).
Skyline travels to Lone
Peak.

Oct. 15 - Brighton 31, Hillcrest 14

Story of the game - Senior RB A.J. Allen rushed for 62 yards, but
scored three touchdowns as Brighton clinched a playoff spot with only
its second win of the season - beating Hillcrest in a Region 2 game.

Brighton's best moment - QB Jace Felix scored on a short run and
Allen added a pair of touchdowns in the first half as Brighton built a
21-0 lead. Hillcrest rallied, and seemed ready to tie the game but DL
Ricky Heimuli sacked the QB to end the drive.

Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies never quit. They may be
winless in region, but they battle. Hillcrest picked up a TD just before
halftime and another on the first drive of the third quarter. If not for
Heimuli's great play, this game could have ended up differently.

What we learned from this game - Brighton's young team will make
the playoffs, even with two wins. The team has definitely improved
during the season and a post-season win might even be possible.

Next: Brighton returns home to play Skyline in the final regular-season
game. Hillcrest finishes up against Taylorsville.

Oct. 10 - Jordan 42, Brighton 24

Story of the game - Cory Hunt returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for
a touchdown and Jordan QB Alex Hart ran for 107 yards and a score as
the Beetdiggers got a big lead and held on to beat Brighton in a Region
2 game.

Brighton's best moment - This game was over early, but Brighton
knows it has a decent future. Sophomore QB Taylor Loomis came in
late and led the Bengals to a pair of touchdowns. Brighton has a good
future.

Jordan's best moment - There isn't a better way to start a game than
to return the opening kickoff for a score. This was a close game last
year, but not the case here. Jordan only punted once the entire game.

What we learned from this game - Brighton has Derek Newell, and
now it has Taylor Loomis. That's a good situation to have at QB. Coach
Ryan Bullett has said repeatedly that this team has some young talent,
and tonight we saw a sign of it.

Next: Brighton travels to Hillcrest, which is a winnable game. Jordan
goes to
Skyline.

Oct. 3 - Alta 45, Brighton 0

Story of the game - One day after the Brighton sophomore football
team won on Alta's home field and celebrated on its midfield logo, the
Hawks varsity "retaliated" by coming out and whipping the visitors 45-0
in a game that was never in doubt.

Brighton's best moment - Not much to tell. The Bengals' offense has
had trouble all year, and could not move the ball against Alta. Punter
Loi Masina was busy, with eight punts for a 37 yard average, including
a 64-yarder.

Alta's best moment - The Hawks scored TDs on their first four
possessions. QB Ammon Olsen passed for 206 yards and a TD, and
also ran for two scores. The difference here was the defense, which
limited Brighton to 24 total yards and four first downs. In the first half,
the Bengals ran 33 plays and only seven were for positive yardage.
Region 2 standings

Alta                5      0      211    67         13    1      496     192

                BRIGHTON FOOTBALL - 2008
What we learned from this game - This game is still a rivalry, even though the games are one-sided. Alta was not at its best, but didn't
need to be. The Hawks only had one turnover, and the defense gave the offense short fields.

Next: Alta takes on Hillcrest in its homecoming game. Brighton returns home to play Jordan.

Sept. 26 - Brighton 41, Taylorsville 0

Story of the game - RB Dallin Jackman rushed for 119 yards and scored four touchdowns as the Brighton offense came alive for the first
time this season and captured a convincing win over Taylorsville.

Brighton's best moment - The entire fourth quarter, when the Bengals had the game in hand. Coach Ryan Bullett said, "It's just nice to
have a win. Our kids have been working hard. I'm really happy for the kids. It's nice to start region 1-0."

Taylorsville's best moment - Highlights were limited. The Warriors suffered their second straight shutout loss, and Taylorsville's offense
is near the bottom in scoring output.

What was learned from this game - This was a game both teams needed because the Region 2 schedule is difficult. It's a huge
momentum boost for the Bengals, who are still trying to rebuild their program.

Next: Brighton goes on the road to play Alta. Taylorsville goes to Jordan.

Sept. 19 - Pleasant Grove 24, Brighton 6

Story of the game - LeSean Wilcox rushed for 81 yards and Sean Stevenson added 77 more as the Vikings' ball-control offense limited
Brighton's touches in their 24-6 victory.

Brighton's best moment - The Bengals have had trouble with their offense all year, and QB Derek Newell is injured, so things aren't
looking good. The special teams have done well, though, as Aisea Fakahua returned a kickoff 88 yards to set up the Bengals only score, a
7-yard pass from Jace Felix to Nate Finch.

PG's best moment - Leading 14-6 in the third quarter, the Vikings were threatening to score, but fumbled. Brighton, however, fumbled it
right back and PG scored on a 17-yard run by Stevenson.

What was learned from this game - Brighton is rebuilding, and now injuries are hurting their chances. Region season starts next week,
and there are maybe one or two real chances to earn wins.

Next: Brighton travels to play Taylorsville in its Region 2 opener. Pleasant Grove will play Timpanogos at home.

Sept. 12 - Spanish Fork 28, Brighton 14

Story of the game - QB Breck Lewis wrecked Brighton's homecoming, passing for 241 yards and two
touchdowns as the Dons claimed the win. Lewis seemed to be a one-man offensive machine. He also ran
for 85 yards on 23 carries.

Brighton's best moment - Coach Ryan Bullett said, "We played hard. We played physical." In fact, the
Bengals led 7-0 on a 26-yard pass from QB Derek Newell to Nate Finch. Newell also had a 46-yard TD
run on a keeper. The Bengals, however, only had one first down after halftime.

Spanish Fork's best moment - The Dons dominated the second half. The kept the ball most of the third quarter.
Lewis showed his smooth passing style, connecting with six different receivers. He showed he can throw short
and long. He also is among the team's fastest players.

What was learned from this game - Lewis is going to play college ball somewhere. He said he has talked to Utah, USU, Weber and SUU.
He's good enough to play in Logan now. For Brighton, the Bengals are rebuilding and Newell is the team's future. He got hurt on the last
play, though, and his availability is uncertain.

Next: Brighton traves to play a tough Pleasant Grove team. Spanish Fork is supposedly Hunter's homecoming "victim."

Sept. 5 - Hunter 27, Brighton 14

Story of the game - The Hunter defense intercepted Brighton passes on four consecutive possessions and that lifted the Wolverines to
their first win - 27-14 over the Bengals, who remained winless.

Brighton's best moment - Information is limited about this game, but the Bengals jumped to a 7-0 lead and held it through the first half.
The Bengals have been trying to improve their offense through their passing game, but too many turnovers doomed their progress.

Hunter's best moment - The Wolverines tied the game in the third quarter, then scored 20 points in the final frame - that's more than they
scored in the first two games combined. Senior tailback Mone Maungoloa had two of Hunter's touchdowns.

What was learned from the game - While Brighton's defense played well, the turnovers gave Hunter great field position and that was too
much. Both teams needed this win. Perhaps next week's homecoming game will spur the Bengals.

Next week - It's homecoming for Brighton and the Bengals play host to Spanish Fork. Hunter has a tough game at home against Alta.

story,

Aug. 29 - Davis 28, Brighton 6

Story of the game - Davis RB Tanner Hinds ran for 146 yards and scored 3 TDs. The Darts' defense had a fumble recovery, an
interception and handful of sacks on the night. The fumble recovery came in the first minute of play and led to a 30-yard touchdown pass
from QB Gavin Fowler to Hinds

Brighton's best moment - Following the Darts first score, Brighton's Tyler Zaelit returned the kickoff 96 yards for the Bengals' only score of
the game.

Davis' best moment - The Darts' defense shut out Hunter last week, and didn't give up a point to Brighton either. Sam Lloyd and James
Cowser had key plays and helped hold the Bengals to 115 total yards.

What was learned from the game - Brighton obviously needs to work on its offense. The Bengals scored just 14 points last week, and the
offense didn't do anything against Davis. Brighton has two straight home games now against other teams with a lot of questions.

Next week - Brighton returns home to play Hunter. Davis plays Kamehameha High of Hawaii at Weber State's Stewart Stadium on
Thursday.

Aug. 22 - Kearns 20, Brighton 14

Story of the game - Another tough loss for Brighton - just like last year. The Bengals are rebuilding, but with a history like Brighton, it can't
happen quickly enough. Fact is, Kearns is a good team, but this had better be a good week of practice because Brighton plays next at
Davis and that won't be easy.

Brighton's best moment - The Bengals have a defense. They held Kearns to just just 11 yards in the first quarter and 82 by halftime. That
says they had a good scheme. Problem is, Kearns adapted.

Kearns'' best moment - It was the third quarter. Even though Kearns didn't score, the Cougars were able to hold on to the ball for almost
the entire quarter. Nex thing you know, a 7-6 deficit is a 20-7 advantage.

What was learned from the game - Brighton lost several games last  year that were close. They were heartbreaking defeats. This was
another game that could have been won. That is the difference between good and bad teams. It's too early to tell, but Brighton has to learn
how to win close games.

Next week - Brighton plays a tough game at Davis. Kearns has another road game at Cyprus.
