Oct. 22 - Lone Peak 41, Copper Hills 7

Story of the game - QB Tannon Pederson had almost a perfect night,
completing 17 of 18 passes for 299 yards, as Lone Peak routed
Copper Hills in a non-region game.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies had trouble moving the
football against Lone Peak's defense. Trailing 41-0, Colton Fogarty
scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to break the shutout.

Lone Peak's best moment - Jared Fenton had a couple of touchdowns
for Lone Peak, which led 21-0 after the first quarter. The Knights were
never in trouble, and go into the 5A playoffs with a lot of momentum.

What we learned from this game - Copper Hills finished the season
with a 1-8 record in coach Kai Kapele's first year.

Next - Copper Hills has ended its season. Lone Peak advances to the
5A playoffs and will play host to
West Jordan.

Oct. 16 - Kearns 35, Copper Hills 28

Story of the game - QB J.R. Finai threw two touchdown passes to
Sammy Sweat, including one in the fourth quarter that made the
difference in the game, as Kearns edged Copper Hills and kept its
post-season hopes alive.

Copper Hills' best moment - QB Quin Wright threw a pair of touchdown
passes and RB Colton Fogarty had a couple of touchdown runs. The
Grizzlies fell behind 21-0, but rallied to make this a game.

Kearns' best moment - D'Andre Galvin's 25-yard fumble return gave
Kearns a 21-0 lead, and there's something about defensive scores that
inspire a team.

What we learned from this game - It was a good offensive effort for
Copper Hills. The Grizzlies dropped to 1-7 overall, and have a tough
opponent next week. Still, Copper Hills has shown definite
improvement as the season progressed.

Next - Copper Hills returns home to play a non-region game against
Lone Peak.
Kearns goes to West Jordan.

Sept. 30 - Bingham 50, Copper Hills 7

Story of the game - Harvey Langi and Richie Vakapuna carried the
offense's rushing attack, and the Bingham defense was its usual self,
shutting down Copper Hills in a Region 3 game.

Copper Hills' best moment - Colton Fogarty had a decent game, which
was surprising considering Bingham's dominance on defense. Fogarty
had 99 yards rushing, including a 52-yard touchdown run in the fourth
quarter that prevented a shutout.

Bingham's best moment - The Miners didn't let up until filling the game
with reserves. Bingham led 30-0 at halftime and did that almost entirely
running the football, amassing 312 rushing yards.

What we learned from this game - This was never a winnable game
for Copper Hills, whose only chance of winning would be if Chandler
Johnson got the ball in the open field on every play.

Next - Copper Hills is off until it plays at Kearns Oct. 16. Bingham
travels to
West Jordan.

Sept. 25 - Copper Hills 27, Taylorsville 13

Story of the game - RB Colton Fogarty had his best game of the
season, rushing for 238 yards on 26 carries, and the Grizzlies' defense
kept Taylorsville from scoring until the fourth quarter en route to their
first win.

Copper Hills' best moment - Fogarty scored the first of his two
touchdowns in the opening quarter, and QB Quin Wright connected with
Chandler Johnson for a 14-0 lead. The Grizzlies added two more
scores in the third quarter.

Taylorsville's best moment - The Warriors have had trouble scoring all
season, but came back in the fourth quarter. RB Nate Azera scored
Taylorsville's first touchdown and Ryan Stone hit Nate Speth for the
other score.

What we learned from this game - The Grizzlies earned their first win
and, since Taylorsville isn't likely to beat anyone, Copper Hills will
probably avoid the Region 3 cellar.

Next - Copper Hills plays 5A power Bingham next week. Taylorsville
plays host to
West Jordan.

Sept. 18 - Riverton 49, Copper Hills 35

Story of the game - Tua Laei ran for 101 yards and the Riverton
offense, in general, ran through the Copper Hills defense in the first
half and held on for a comfortable Region 3 victory.

Copper Hills' best moment - This was the Grizzlies' best offensive
performance of the season. QB Quin Wright completed 28 of 39
passes for 444 yards, almost a school record, in the loss. CH scored
the game's last three touchdowns.

Riverton's' best moment - The Silverwolves scored 28 points before
Copper Hills got on the board. Riverton scored quickly - six of its seven
TDs were from 11 yards of further away. This was also a great offensive
effort for Riverton.

What we learned from this game - This game started just like last
week, but the Grizzlies rallied and gained some confidence. Wright was
unstoppable late in the game, and Chandler Johnson had 14 catches
for 259 yards.

Next - Copper Hills plays host to Taylorsville in a game to avoid the
Region 3 cellar.
Riverton takes on West Jordan.

Sept. 11 - West Jordan 55, Copper Hills 6

Story of the game - QB Adam Boelter passed for six touchdowns and
ran for two more as West Jordan built a 41-0 halftime lead and
continued its mastery over rival Copper Hills in this Region 3 opener.

Copper Hills' best moment - There weren't many. The Grizzlies had
hoped to play West Jordan a lot tougher. Copper Hills didn't score until
the last play of the game on a 1-yard pass from Casey Spell to Matt
Demass.

West Jordan's' best moment - This game was over early. It was 22-0
after one quarter as Boelter threw TD passes to C.J. O'Neal (twice) and
Deshawn Perkins. Most everybody got a chance to play and the second
half went quickly thanks to the "mercy rule."

What we learned from this game - This was the first game of region,
and Copper Hills simply does not have as many playmakers. The ones
they have are good. They just need to get the ball more often.

Next - Copper Hills travels play to Riverton. West Jordan goes to
Pleasant Grove.

Sept. 4 - Olympus 24, Copper Hills 7

Story of the game - Terry Isaia rushed for 154 yards on 22 carries, and
Sam Williams had a pair of interceptions as Olympus improved to 3-0
with a non-region win at Copper Hills.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies moved the ball, especially
when QB Quin Wright was able to get rid of the ball and into the hands
of Chandler Johnson. RB Colton Fogarty also had a good game with
133 yards on 24 carries.

Olympus' best moment - Oly built a 17-0 lead at halftime by taking
advantage of its opportunities. After Copper Hills scored, the Titans put
the game away on Isaia's 51-yard burst on a fourth-down play. Oly also
stopped Copper Hills three times on fourth downs.

What we learned from this game - Copper Hills fell to 0-3, but has
some talent on its team. Coach Kai Kapele just needs to get his
talented players the ball. The Grizzlies were also hurt by inopportune
penalties in this game.

Next - Copper Hills opens Region 3 play at home against West Jordan.
Olympus starts Region 6 at Woods Cross.

Aug. 28 - Box Elder 27, Copper Hills 14

Story of the game - Linebacker Eric Lewis led an energized defense
that recorded nine sacks during the game as Box Elder buried Copper
Hills in a non-region game.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies' offense was listless in the
first half, but came alive later and put up a couple of touchdowns on
passes by QB Quin Wright. There just wasn't enough time, however, to
put a scare into Box Elder.

Box Elder's best moment - The Bees' defense was outstanding, and
was able to pressure Wright all night. QB Mitch Parrish threw for two
TDs, and Sean Smith had 87 yards rushing. It was evident that Box
Elder's line play was far better.

What we learned from this game - This has to be considered a
letdown after the opening game. Copper Hills has playmakers who did
not get the ball often enough. Wright also needs to get rid of the ball
more quickly.

Next - Copper Hills plays host to Olympus. Box Elder has a home
game against rival Bear River.

Aug. 21 - Syracuse 17, Copper Hills 14

Story of the game - Kayden Davies scored on a 3-yard run with three
minutes left in the game as Syracuse rallied to beat Copper Hills in the
season opener for both teams.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies offense was not consistent,
but QB Quin Wright hit WR Chandler Johnson on a pair of long
touchdown passes - the second one gave Copper Hills its first lead of
the game.

Syracuse's best moment - Titans' QB Tanner Russell had a big
31-yard run late in the game that ended up being the big play on the
final drive. Penalties played a part of the scoring drive. Syracuse was
flagged near the goal line and, a minute later, Copper Hills was nailed
for a pass interference.

What we learned from this game - This was Copper Hills' opener and
the Grizzlies played well enough to win. Still, the Grizzlies learned from
last year that losing to a good team might be better than beating a good
one because it might help prepare you better for region play.

Next - Copper Hills returns for its home opener against Box Elder.
Syracuse opens region play against Northridge.
