Oct. 23 - Bingham 51, Copper Hills 7

Story of the game - QB Jake Soffe passed for two touchdowns and
Inoke Taufalele scored twice, including a 98-yard kickoff return to
start the second half and Bingham crushed Copper Hills in the final
regular-season game for both teams.

Copper Hills' best moment - Late in the game, QB Josh Soter
connected with Chandler Johnson on an 87-yard scoring pass that
ended the shutout bid. The Grizzlies' problem was they could not
run the ball (-20 yards), but at least they had no turnovers.

Bingham's best moment - This game was never in doubt. Harvey
Langi, Cameron Edmunds, L.T. Filiaga, Remington Peck, Taufalele
and Braeden Loveless scored in the first half as Bingham built a
38-0 lead.

What was learned from the game - The season ends on a sour
note. Copper Hills needed a miracle to even be competitive, but it
never happened. Upsets are not known this season.

Next week - Copper Hills is done for the season. Bingham opens
the 4-A playoffs with a home game.

Oct. 15 - West Jordan 28, Copper Hills 6

Story of the game - RB Damien Maestes scored two touchdowns
and DE D.J. Tialavea returned an interception 25 yards for a score
to give West Jordan its first Region 3 win - over Copper Hills.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies' once-vaunted offense
has disappeared since region play started. The defense did
account for a score when Bo Duckett picked up a fumble and
returned it four yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

West Jordan's' best moment - Tialavea and Tyson Udy are the
Jaguars' top players, and they were both a factor. Tialavea scored
on the INT return, and Udy caught a fourth-quarter pass for a score
that sealed the win.

What was learned from the game - It has been a tale of two
seasons for Copper Hills, who showed a lot of potential early. The
region opponents have had too much power. The Grizzlies will learn
from it and hope for the best when they play 5-A power Bingham.

Next week - The Grizzlies finish the season at home against
Bingham. West Jordan returns home to take on Kearns.

Oct. 10 - Kearns 7, Copper Hills 0

Story of the game - RB Alamoti Vaenuku rushed for 162 yards on
23 carries and the Cougars' defense held Copper Hills to just 150
yards of offense en route to a shutout win in Region 3 action.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies defense did hold Kearns
to just seven points. QB Josh Soter completed 11 of  22 attempts for
82 yards. He also had 8 carries for 27 yards. He was sacked four
times.

Kearns' best moment - RB Toa Afatasi had a 4-yard run for the
game's only score with 7:27 left in the second quarter. It was
Kearns' first homecoming win since 1996.

What was learned from the game - The loss severely damaged
the Grizzlies' post season chances. Copper Hills' offense was
bottled up for really only the second time this seasin (PG).

Next week - The Grizzlies return home to take on West Jordan.
Kearns has another home game against Riverton.

Oct. 3 - Hunter 20, Copper Hills 14

Story of the game - Hunter's Rico Montoya picked up a fumble and returned it 9 yards for a touchdown and that made the difference in
the Wolverines narrow win over Copper Hills in a Region 3 game.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies' offense struggled all night. Trailing 20-7, QB Josh Soter completed 5 of 6 passes for 61
yards, and finished it with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Chris Martinez. Copper Hills had another drive end at Hunter's 14 yard line.

Hunter's best moment - Trailing 7-6, the Wolverines kicked off to start the third quarter. Copper Hills tried a reverse and fumbled, and
Montoya picked it up and scored. It gave Hunter the momentum, and QB Brett Lunceford added a TD to put the game out of reach.

What was learned from the game - A tough loss for Copper Hills, and it's more evidence that the Grizzlies' preseason schedule
produced wins, but didn't prepare them for the tough region opponents. The schedule is not easier from here on out.

Next week - Copper Hills travels to Kearns. Meanwhile, Hunter plays at West Jordan.

Sept. 25 - Riverton 28, Copper Hills 21

Story of the game - Chad Carter caught a 12-yard TD pass from Davis Johnson late in the game to lift Riverton past Copper Hills in their
Region 3 opener. Riverton's rushing attack proved to be the difference in the game.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies couldn't run the ball, so QB Josh Soter threw it. He completed 20 of 31 passes for 331 yards.
Teammate Chandler Allen had 8 catches for 174 yards and a TD. It almost was enough.

Riverton's best moment - Marco Trujillo intercepted a pass that stopped a key CH drive in the fourth quarter. The offensive and
defensive lines controlled the game and Riverton's was dominant. Zach Spencer ran for 176 yards and teammate Dillon Draper had
114. The Silverwolves also blocked a CH field goal attempt.

What we learned from this game - The game was won in the trenches, although Copper Hills nearly pulled it out. The Grizzlies need to
toughen up as their next two opponents also have impressive linemen. The good news is CH seems to have the region's best passing
attack.

Next: Copper Hills travels to play at Hunter. Riverton plays host to West Jordan.

Sept. 19 - Copper Hills 52, Taylorsville 0

Story of the game - QB Josh Soter completed 18 of 26 passes for 281 yards and the Grizzlies' defense stuffed several Taylorsville
opportunities and took a 52-0 win in a game closer than the score indicated.

Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies took advantage of their opportunities, and Soter threw five TD passes. Early in the game, with
CH holding a small lead, the defense turned back the Warriors twice in the red zone. Clint Jex had two more sacks. This was a shutout
well earned.

Taylorsville's best moment - Special teams. The Warriors blocked three Copper Hills extra points and one field goal. RB Nate Azera,
who played a solid game at running back and took many direct snaps, atoned for one kickoff fumble by taking another kick 40 yards.

What we learned from this game - Copper Hills rebounded from a tough loss the previous week and now starts Region 3 play with a
better attitude. Last year, they suffered a tough loss to Taylorsville.

Next: Copper Hills travels down road a bit to play at Riverton. Taylorsville has another home against Brighton.

Pleasant Grove 31, Copper Hills 0

Story of the game - This game was doomed from the beginning as Pleasant Grove scored on its first offensive play. The Grizzlies got a
dose of reality in their homecoming game. The home team had to be surprised as its offense couldn't score, and everything PG seemed
to do ... worked.

Copper Hills' best moment - In such a decisive loss, there weren't many. For the fans, perhaps it was the homecoming events at
halftime? On those rare times when the Grizzlies moved the ball, they couldn't score. On one drive, they were stopped when they
fumbled at the PG 1-yard line.

Pleasant Grove's best moment - After stopping CH near the goal line, the Vikings controlled the ball on a 99-yard drive and Jordan
Hymas' TD run made it 17-0. That was a killer because RB Joey Owens broke loose on a 73-yard TD run just before halftime.

What we learned from this game - Copper Hills is 3-1 with wins over poor opponents. The Griz need to build back their momentum and
it's possible against Taylorsville next week. Pleasant Grove is a good team. The Vikings are also 3-1, with their only loss a 10-6 battle to
defending 4-A champ Timpview.

Next: Copper Hills goes on the road to play Taylorsville in its last non-region game. Pleasant Grove returns home to play Brighton.

Sept. 5 - Copper Hills 33, Hillcrest 10

Story of the game - Josh Soter passed for three TDs and ran for another and the Copper Hills defense held Hillcrest to 90 yards of total
offense en route to another convincing non-region win.

Copper Hills' best moment - The offense was impressive, but this was another great game by the Grizzlies' defense, which is giving up
an average of just 9.3 ppg. Clint Jex led the way with four more sacks. On offense, Soter was 22 of 38 for 284 yards.

Hillcrest's best moment - In the second quarter, Anthony Biven returned a kickoff 58 yards and led to a QB sneak by Kolby Koplin. That
gave the Huskies some brief momentum. Their only other score was a 25-yard field goal by Jeffery Brown.

What was learned from the game - Copper Hills is unbeaten and is earning more attention. The schedule has been weak, but there's
no doubt the Grizzlies have momentum with just two weeks before the start of the Region 3 season.

Next week - Copper Hills will entertain Pleasant Grove. Hillcrest returns home to play Riverton.

Aug. 29 - Copper Hills 26, Box Elder 6

Story of the game - RB Brian Bell ran for 223 yards on 17 carries, including two TDs, as Copper Hills rolled to its second straight win to
open the season.

Copper Hills' best moment - Bell's two TDs were from 85 and 68 yards, to the Grizzlies scored quickly. Their other score came on an
interception return by Mike Rios.

Box Elder's best moment - The Bees scored a touchdown. Last week, they were shut out by Weber. Even though their score was late,
when the outcome was not in doubt, it had to feel nice to get that initial TD.

What was learned from the game - Watch out for the Grizzlies. Thanks for their quick start (and perhaps a weak preseason schedule),
they're 2-0 and have a chance to use that momentum to become one of the top teams in Region 3.

Next week - Copper Hills returns home to play Hillcrest, which also has a 2-0 record. Box Elder plays at rival Bear River.

Aug. 22 - Copper Hills 40, Payson 12

Story of the game - It was the Josh Soter show as the Copper Hills quarterback passed for 347 yards and four touchdowns in the
Grizzlies' win. If he's not selected player of the week, then something is wrong because he also ran for a score.

Copper Hills' best moment - There were exactly 3.5 of them. That's how many sacks Clint Jex had for the Grizzlies. This guy spends
more time in the opponents' backfield than anyone.

Payson's best moment - This belongs to Payson coach Jared Woolstenhulme. Whatever he said at halftime must have worked
because the Lions trailed 19-0 at intermission, but rallied for two scores in the third quarter to make it a game.

What was learned from the game - Way to go, Josh Soter. This was a great way to start the season and, after looking at the schedule,
Copper Hills might be a team worth noting.

Next week - Copper Hills plays at Box Elder. Payson has its first home game against Olympus.
