Feb. 17 - Riverton 68, Copper Hills 12

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 19 points as Riverton
grabbed a big lead and went on to rout Copper Hills in the final
regular-season game for both teams.

Copper Hills' best moment: This wasn't a winnable game for the
Grizzlies, who also celebrated "Senior Night," and gave red roses
to Riverton players, too. Copper Hills had just four baskets the
entire game.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves dominated, jumping to
an 18-1 lead after the first quarter and were never headed. They
emptied their bench and 10 players scored.

Statistical notes: Riverton was 19-22 from the free-throw line;
Copper Hills was 2-6. Riverton won the season series and both
games were convincing routs.

What we learned from this game: The Grizzlies ended their tough
season, but the local media did give kudos to coach Crista Nelson
for giving flowers to their opponents.

Next: Copper Hills is done for the year. Riverton advances to the
5A state tournament.

Feb. 12 - Bingham 52, Copper Hills 27

Story of the game: Dezz Ramos scored nine points, and Nicole
Yazzie had five points, seven rebounds and eight assists as
Bingham emptied its bench in an easy Region 3 win over Copper
Hills.

Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies rallied in the fourth
quarter to try to make the score more respectable. Kim Bohne had
five points for Copper Hills.

Bingham's best moment: The Miners led 21-8 after the first
quarter and 37-12 at halftime. The outcome was never in doubt as
they held their second straight opponent to just 27 points.

Statistical notes: Bingham was 18-27 from the free-throw line;
Copper Hills was 4-11. Bingham led 48-14 before the Grizzlies
came back.

What we learned from this game: Bingham finishes the season
with the region's two doormats and the outcome was not
surprising. These games are tuneups for state.

Next:  Copper Hills ends the season at home Feb. 17 against
Riverton. Bingham travels to Hunter the same night.

Feb. 10 - West Jordan 66, Copper Hills 43

Story of the game: Marina Leuluai scored a season-high 19
points as West Jordan downed Copper Hills and officially clinched
a berth in the 5A state tournament.

Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies got 13 points from Kim
Bohne and 12 by Marissa Lazenby, and that was the bulk of their
offense. Copper Hills was competitive, but couldn't get a scoring
streak during the game.

West Jordan's best moment: The Jaguars jumped on Copper
Hills early, claiming a 17-7 first-quarter lead, and they just
continued to extend it. Gabriella Rodriguez scored 11 points.

Statistical notes: Lazenby had a pair of three-pointers for Copper
Hills. West Jordan was 7-12 from the free-throw line; Copper Hills
was 7-15.

What we learned from this game: This was a better game by
Copper Hills, but the team is now trying to get experience for next
season. The Grizzlies play the region's top two teams next.

Next: Copper Hills plays at Bingham on Feb. 12. West Jordan
goes to
Riverton the same night.

Feb. 5 - Kearns 45, Copper Hills 21

Story of the game: Brooke Larsen scored 13 points and Micalee
Orton had 12 as Kearns blew out Copper Hills in a Region 3 game.

Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies were never in this game,
and didn't reach double figures on offense until well after halftime.
Marissa Lazenby had six points on a pair of three-pointers.

Kearns' best moment: The Cougars led 21-8 at halftime, but then
outscored Copper Hills 19-2 in the third quarter to put the game
away.

Statistical notes: Kearns was 12-17 from the free-throw line;
Copper Hills was 0-9. The defensive effort was Kearns' best this
season.

What we learned from this game: The Grizzlies scored 21 points,
and that won't win many games. Sadly, it's not Copper Hills' lowest
point total this season.

Next: Copper Hills has West Jordan at home on Feb. 10. Kearns
travels to
Bingham the same night.

Jan. 29 - Hunter 44, Copper Hills 43

Story of the game: Innie Pataialii scored 11 points, but it was
Latiesha Webster's three-pointer with one second left that forced
overtime and allowed Hunter to overcome Copper Hills and earn
its first Region 3 victory.

Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies seemingly had this
game won until Webster's shot. Marissa Lazenby led Copper Hills
with 13 points, while Brittany Hackworth had 10.

Hunter's best moment: The game was close throughout.
Webster's shot gave Hunter momentum going into overtime, and
T.J. Bloomfield hit her only basket - also a three-pointer - that
ended up making the difference.

Statistical notes: Hackworth had two three-pointers for Copper
Hills. The Grizzlies were 12-20 from the free-throw line, while
Hunter was just 6-14. The score was 40-40 at the end of regulation.

What we learned from this game: The loss prevented Copper
Hills from tying West Jordan for fourth place in Region 3. The top
four teams will make the 5A state tournament.

Jordan the same night.

Jan. 27 - Riverton 72, Copper Hills 19

Story of the game: Alle Finch scored 20 points as Riverton
grabbed a big lead early and just continued to blast Copper Hills in
a Region 3 game.

Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies played their best in the
second quarter. It still wasn't enough, but it did delay the huge
point discrepancy for a while. Jessica Cruse led with six points.

Riverton's best moment: This game was never in doubt. Riverton
led 22-4 after the first quarter, and even outscored the Grizzlies
34-5 in the second half, while playing their reserves.

Statistical notes: Ten players scored for Riverton. They had five
three-point baskets. Copper Hills had none. Copper Hills didn't
score in the fourth quarter.

What we learned from this game: Copper Hills lost its fourth
staight game and is just ahead of Hunter in the region standings.
Post-season is still possible, but the team needs wins against
Hunter and West Jordan.

Kearns the same night.

Jan. 22 - Bingham 62, Copper Hills 10

Story of the game: Camille Tua had nine points and Maddie Hind
eight as Bingham kept Copper Hills scoreless in the second and
third quarters and rolled to an easy Region 3 victory.

Copper Hills' best moment: It would probably have to be the fourth
quarter, when the Grizzlies scored eight of their 10 points. This had
to be a tough - even embarrassing - loss.

Bingham's best moment: Bingham led 22-2 after the first quarter
and held the Grizzlies scoreless until the fourth period. That may
be a record. The Miners cleared their bench. At one point, the score
was 46-2.

Statistical notes: The 10 points was a season best, of course, for
Bingham's defense. Brittany Hackworth was the Grizzlies top
scorer with three points - a single three-pointer.

What we learned from this game: Bingham and Riverton are at
the top of the league, and Copper Hills and Hunter are at the
bottom. There is a big space in-between.

Next: Copper Hills goes to Riverton on Jan. 27. Bingham returns
home to take on
Hunter the same night.

Region 3 game.

Copper Hills' best moment: Kim Bohne scored eight points and
four teammates had six each. The Grizzlies played a good second
quarter and were close at halftime.

West Jordan's best moment: The Jaguars controlled the first and
third quarters, and that was plenty. After Copper Hills rallied to
within eight points, the Jags went on an 11-2 run to put the game
away and earn their second straight win.

Statistical notes: Copper Hills shot 7-17 from the free-throw line.
West Jordan was 8-22. Each team had a pair of three-pointers.

quarter and earned its first Region 3 win.

Copper Hills' best moment: The game was tied 10-10 after the
first quarter and the Grizzlies were actually within 10 points until
midway through the fourth quarter. Brittany Hackworth had 10
points for Copper Hills.

Kearns' best moment: Kearns outscored Copper Hills 17-5 in the
fourth quarter to make the game appear more of a rout than it was.
Brooke Larsen had 13 points, Christen Lopez 12 and Dallas Vega
10 for Kearns.

of those in the fourth quarter. Copper Hills was just 2-7. Kim

it was a competitive game. Kim Bohne had 15 points for the
Grizzlies, while Jessica Cruse had 14.

Jordan's best moment: Going into the game, Jordan had one win
and Copper Hills was winless, so the best team apparently won.
Jordan's 53 points was a season high.

Copper Hills and it means the Grizzlies are winless going into
Region 3 play.

Story of the game: Shelbi Everett scored 11 points and Brighton's
defense put the clamps on Copper Hills, taking an easy win and

Bengals, who led 14-2 after the first quarter, 28-6 at halftime and

Story of the game: McKenzie  Morrison scored 15 points and
Becca Boudoin had 10 as Alta ran off to a big lead and claimed a
comfortable road win over Copper Hills.

quarters. Alta led 19-9 after the opening period, and the lead

Statistical notes: Both teams only hit one three-pointer apiece,

eight points.

Statistical notes: Copper Hills hit 8-16 free throws, while Oly was
12-18. There were no three-pointers made in this game.

Grizzlies might still be able to stay in some games despite any
talent differential.

Next: Copper Hills takes on Alta at home tonight (Dec. 10).
Olympus is off until its Dec. 16 game against Bonneville.

the Grizzlies came back from a 32-24 deficit. Copper Hills has had
trouble scoring all season, and this was their best scoring quarter

She and her teammates came out after halftime and broke open
the close game with a 10-4 run.

Statistical notes: Copper Hills shot just 6-20 from the free-throw
line, while Hillcrest was 15-29. Amundsen had seven rebounds to

dominated most of the second half. Rikie Gregg added 11 points
for West.

Statistical notes: Brittany Hackworth and Kim Bohne had 12
points apiece for Copper Hills. The Grizzlies were held to just 15
second-half points.

What we learned from this game: The lack of offense was again a
problem for Copper Hills, but the team played far better than the
opener.

Next: Copper Hills plays Hillcrest at home Dec. 4. West travels to
powerful Sky View Dec. 2.

in the pivotal third period.

Statistical notes: Brittany Hackworth had the Grizzlies' only two
treys during the game. Copper Hills connected on just 9-26 free

What we learned from this game: It's the first game of the
season, so it's hard to tell. Still, 27 points has to be a
disappointment.
