perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line in overtime, to lift Cyprus past rival

Statistical notes: Granger was 11-30 from the free-throw line; Cyprus
was 20-32. Haiola had four three-pointers.

and hope that Cottonwood or West lose all of theirs.

Olympus the same night.

steals on defense, as Olympus finally pulled away in the fourth
quarter from an inspired Cyprus team in a Region 6 game.
Cyprus' best moment: Kirstie Henriod was really the Pirates' lone
scoring threat. She had 17 points, but the Cyprus defense is what
kept this game so close. Ashlyn Mulford added eight points.
Oly's best moment: The Titans trailed 15-14 at halftime, but took the
lead in the third quarter and then put Cyprus away in the final period.
Oly was just 11-23 from the free-throw line, but hit enough to hold on
to the win.
Statistical notes: Only three players scored for Cyprus. Oly outscored
Cyprus 11-5 in the fourth quarter. Cyprus was just 1-4 from the
free-throw line. Amanda Diblee had eight points for Oly.
What we learned from this game: This was one of Cyprus' better
games, but it didn't result in a win. Let's see if it can be a
confidence-booster. The team still needs several wins to make the
tournament.
Next: Cyprus goes to Highland on Jan. 30. Murray plays host to
Olympus the same night.

and Eleni Saltas added 12 apiece as Murray held off Cyprus in a
Region 6 game that down to the wire.

helped. Kirstie Henriod had 13 points, while Sanshae Rasmussen
had 10.

and kept the advantage until the final period. The Spartans played
without leading scorer Mariah Duran and were still able to get the win.

second quarter and never gave in to the Leopards' rally attempts.
Henriod was the top scorer, as she has been in every game this

and, after falling behind, made a nice effort in the final period when it
scored 21 points. Liz Fetzer led the way with 12 points.

which ended a two-game losing streak. East combined for just 11

three-point baskets from Gregg and Manu.
Statistical notes: West had five three-point baskets, led by Gregg
with three. West was just 7-15 from the free-throw line. Cyprus was
10-18.
What we learned from this game: Cyprus fell to 1-4 in region play,
but two of the losses have been by three points or less. Cyprus
needs to change its misfortunes because it is tied for sixth place and
only the top five make it to state.
Next: Cyprus has East at home on Jan. 20. West plays at Olympus
the same night.

points.
Statistical notes: There weren't many fouls called in this game.

points.

game against Olympus the same night.

16 points as Cyprus pulled away from Granger in the second quarter
and hung on for its first Region 6 victory.

but dominated the second period to take a nine-point lead. Ashlyn

quarter, thanks to the scoring of Vahine Tuigamala. Their offense
fizzled in the fourth quarter.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot free throws badly. Granger was
10-26, and Cyprus 16-34. Kelly Uriarte and Emma Matuauto had 11
points each for Cyprus.
What we learned from this game: This was a convincing win for
Cyprus against a nearby rival after two close region losses. Let's see
what happens now.
Next: Cyprus has its fourth straight home game - this time playing
Cottonwood on Jan. 13. Granger returns home to take on Olympus
the same night.

Story of the game: Chanel Roe scored 16 points and Beauty
Tuakalau added 10 as Highland rallied in the fourth quarter and held
off Cyprus in a Region 6 game.
Cyprus' best moment: The Pirates outscored Highland 19-12 in the
third quarter and the game was close after that. Kirstie Henriod had a
game-high 21 points.
Highland's best moment: The Rams had a big second quarter that
turned an 11-8 deficit into a 24-18 lead. Highland somehow
managed to keep the lead despite shooting 5-14 from the free-throw
line.
Statistical notes: That's two straight bad free-throw shooting games
for Highland, and yet it still won. Cyprus was 18-26 from the line, so
there was a big foul differential.
What we learned from this game: There's no reason for despair.
Cyprus may have opened against two of the best teams in Region 6,
and fell short each time - barely.
Next: Cyprus has a home game against Granger on Jan. 9. Highland
plays host to Olympus the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read the

held off a determined Cyprus comeback in the fourth quarter to claim
the win in the Region 6 opener for both teams.

their offense going in the third quarter to take a 35-28 lead. Oly
scored just enough fourth-quarter points to win. Amanda Diblee
added 11 points.
Statistical notes: Oly hit 11-18 free throws, while Cyprus was 6-11.
Henriod had two three-point baskets. Ashlyn Mulford had 10 points
for the Pirates.
What we learned from this game: This was the season opener, and
probably one of many games that will be decided by just a few points.
The good teams learn how to win them and Cyprus had been doing
just that.
Next: Cyprus plays Highland at home on Jan. 6. Oly returns home to
take on Murray the same night.

Dec. 30 - Woods Cross 88, Cyprus 49
Story of the game: Jami Mokofisi scored 21 points and Woods
Cross had its offense in high gear, scoring 50 points in the first half
and rolling to an easy win over Cyprus in a non-region game.
Cyprus' best moment: Trailing 72-35 after three quarters, the Pirates
played tough in the final quarter when WX had hopes of possibly
reaching 100. Kirstie Henriod had a season-high 25 points.
Woods Cross' best moment: The Wildcats actually had a balanced
scoring attack, and scored at will through the first three quarters. The
game was never close. The Wildcats had seven three-pointers.
Statistical notes: The 88 points was a season high for WX and a
season high given up by Cyprus. The Pirates were 22-35 from the
free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: Perhaps it was the Christmas
break that had an affect on Cyprus because it didn't appear the
Pirates were ready to play. Chalk this one up as a learning
experience.
Next: Cyprus opens Region 6 play Jan. 2 at home against Olympus.
Woods Cross goes to Sky View Jan. 6.

Story of the game: Britlie Sylvester scored 18 points and Clearfield
built a lead, and then held off a spirited Cyprus comeback to claim
the non-region win.
Cyprus' best moment: Cyprus trailed 40-31 entering the final quarter,
but Kirstie Henriod (no surprise) led the rally. Henriod finished with a
season-high 33 points.
Clearfield's best moment: The Falcons did a nice job controlling the
tempo and building the lead. Their defense held Cyprus to 10.3
points per quarter until the free-for-all at the end. Shelby Wilcox added
13 points and Jessica Watson 11 for Clearfield.
Statistical notes: Cyprus shot just 50 percent from the free-throw line
(12-24) and left points on the court. The four-point loss was the first
close game the Pirates haven't won this year. Sanshae Rasmussen
had seven points for Cyprus.
What we learned from this game: The loss ended a three-game
win streak, but Cyprus is 4-2 going into Region 6 play and has one of
the most talented players around. Henriod is averaging 26.0 points
per game.
Next: Cyprus plays host to Olympus on Jan. 2. Clearfield takes on
Davis at home Dec. 19.

the third, but broke the game open by outscoring Hunter 11-5 in the
third period.
Hunter's best moment: The Wolverines rallied in the fourth quarter

nailed two baskets each from long range, but Hunter couldn't get
another when it needed.
Statistical notes: Cyprus had a big advantage at the free-throw line,
hitting 17-26 shots, compared to 8-12 for Hunter. Ashlyn Mulford had
seven points for Cyprus. Webster led Hunter with 14 points.

close game. Now, they're 3-0 in games decided by three points or
less, and are guaranteed to start the Region 6 season with a winning
record.
