Marsden. Aaron Steffensen topped East for the second straight
game with 15 points. Marsden had 10.
Highland's best moment: The Rams' offense put together one of its
best scoring nights and tied its season high. Orchard led the way
with 21 points, while Fakahafua had 18 and Evans 14. Highland
also hit its free throws down the stretch.

Feb. 9 - Olympus 66, East 45
Story of the game: Nicholas Paulos scored 16 points and Ben
Sonntag tied his season high with 15 as Olympus pulled away from
East with a big third quarter in a Region 6 game.
East's best moment: The Leopards started slowly and trailed from
the beginning. Aaron Steffensen led a fourth-quarter rally, but it was
too little. Steffenson finished with 14 points. Parker Van Dyke had
10.
Oly's best moment: The Titans dominated, rolling to a 13-5
first-quarter lead and then building the lead to 25 points in the third
period. Connor Brady added 10 points and Will Watkins had nine.
Statistical notes: Sonntag has been a force lately and is averaging
12.2 ppg over the last five games. Paulos had four three-pointers.
Steffensen and Dakota Marsden had two each for East.
What we learned from this game: Over the past two seasons, East
has played Oly tough twice, and been blown out twice. The loss
ended the Leopards' two-game win streak.

15 points as East earned its third straight Region 6 win with a
victory over Tooele.

were in the final minutes. Tooele was 14-22. East had seven
three-pointers. Holt had all three for Tooele.
What we learned from this game: East has won three straight
games and is on a roll. The Leopards have a chance to make the
postseason, even though they play three of the region's top teams
next.

Feb. 2 - East 79, Woods Cross 74
Story of the game - Dakota Marsden scored 20 points and Aaron
Steffenson added 18 as East defeated Woods Cross for its second
staright Region 6 victory.
East's best moment - The Leopards forced several turnovers near
the start of the fourth quarter and built a 10-point lead. East then
had to shoot a lot of free throws for the rest of the game. Jack
Larson added 14 points and Parker Van Dyke 13.
WX's best moment - This game was close throughout, and Ryan
Anderson had one of his best games of the season with 22 points.
Mark Evans added 19.
Statistical notes - East shot 24-38 from the free-throw line. Woods
Cross was 21-30. Marsden reached the 20-point mark for the
second straight game, and only the third time this season.
What we learned from this game - The Leopards picked up a huge
victory and won their second straight game. This time might be
peaking at the right time, and now has a shot at postseason play.

Jan. 26 - East 72, Stansbury 51
Story of the game: Dakota Marsden tied his season high with 21
points as East pummeled Stansbury for his third victory of the year,
and second in Region 6 play.
East's best moment: Marsden nailed five three-pointers and
opened up the Leopards' offense. East had just an eight-point lead
going into the fourth period, but really opened it up from there.
Parker Van Dyke added 13 points and Jack Larson and James
Christianson had 11 each.
Stansbury's best moment: The Stallions made a nice rally in the
third period to cut the margin to eight points. Reggie Roberts was
the top scorer with 14 points. Taylor Hunt, Ty Barton and Brandon
Mohler had nine points each.
Statistical notes: The 72-point effort was East's best this season,
as was the 21-point victory. Marsden had five of East's six
three-pointers. Roberts had two treys for Stansbury.
What we learned from this game: This was a big win for East and
first real victory on an opponent's home floor this season. Marsden
was the real key. This was his best game.

the Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt
Lake Tribune.
Jan. 22 - Bountiful 56, East 38
Story of the game: McKay LaSalle and Nick Williams scored 14
points apiece as Bountiful steadily pulled away from East and
stayed unbeaten in Region 6.
East's best moment: The Leopards got 14 points from Dakota
Marsden, who had his best-scoring game in a while. He also made
four three-pointers. Nick Sessions added eight points.
Bountiful's best moment: LaSalle and Williams continued their
steady play, and the Braves hit from outside, too, nailing seven
three-point baskets. The defense held East to 38 points, which was
their best effort this season.
Statistical notes: East's 38 points was its lowest offensively, too.
Bountiful shot 9-12 from the free-throw line. East was 8-13.
Marsden's 14 points was his best in two months.
What we learned from this game: Bountiful seemed ready for
East's upset attempt. The Leopards are playing better basketball,
but apparently not good enough to beat one of the region's best.

Jan. 19 - Highland 60, East 41
Story of the game - Sam Orchard poured in 25 points as Highland
rallied from a first-quarter deficit and dominated rival East in a
Region 6 game.
East's best moment - The Leopards got off to a fast start, taking a
13-6 advantage in the first period. James Christiansen ended up
being the top scorer with 10 points.
Highland's best moment - The Rams celebrated Nate Fakahafua
and Ben Johnson's return by scoring twice as many points as East
- after the first period. The domination was bigger than in any game
(to date) this year. Lew Evans had 16 points and Fakahafua 11.
Statistical notes - East shot 11-18 from the free throw line, while
HIghland was 17-24. Dakota Marsden made both of East's
three-pointers. Evans and Orchard each scored four treys for
Highland.

something happened and the Leopards were quickly out of the
game. Coach Lowe emptied the bench and 10 players scored.

Jan. 15 - Olympus 41, East 39
Story of the game - Nicholas Paulos scored 20 points, including
the game-winning basket with one second left, to lift Olympus past
upset-minded East in a Region 6 game.
East's best moment - The Leopards stayed close, and made a
nice run at the end to almost pull off the win. Nick Sessions led
East with nine points, but Dakota Marsden and Jack Larson had six
points each.
Oly's best moment - Paulos was a one-man scoring show for
Olympus, and the Titans were held to just two three-point baskets.
Andrew Pellatt and Joe Bourne had six points apiece.
Statistical notes - East had five three-pointers. Connor Brady and
Will Watkins were held to season low point totals. Oly's 41 points
was also a season low.
What we learned from this game - East almost pulled off the upset
last year, and this was a virtual repeat. A good effort by the
Leopards, and could mean the team is making a turnaround.

Jan. 12 - East 63, Tooele 53

Christiansen had 14 as East used a big fourth quarter to down
Tooele in a Region 6 contest.
East's best moment - The Leopards led 41-39 after three quarters
and outscored Tooele 22-14 after that. East nailed 19-25 free
throws, many of those down the stretch, to earn its first region win
and end an eight-game losing streak.
Tooele's best moment - The Buffaloes got 17 points from Wade
Memmott, and hung with East until the final quarter. Baylan
Horrocks added 11 points and Jacob Holt had 10.
Statistical notes - Dakota Marsden and Nick Sessions had two
treys each. Memmott's 17 points tied his season high. He also had
two treys for Tooele.
What we learned from this game - The Leopards improved to 1-1
in region and their 63-point effort was their best since the Juab win.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Jan. 8 - Woods Cross 62, East 42
Story of the game - Austin Bankowski, Cory Gerrard and Mark
Evans had big games inside as Woods Cross blew out to a big
lead and downed East in both team's Region 6 opener.
East's best moment - The Leopards trailed 52-21 going into the
final period, but outscored WX 21-10 to make the final score more
respectable. James Christiansen led East with 14 points, while
Nick Sessions had 13.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats had a small lead after the first
quarter, but then dominated until filling the game with reserves.
Bankowski had 14 points and Ryan Anderson 10.
Statistical notes - Bankowski, Gerrard and Evans combined for
about 30 rebounds. Anderson added five assists. Sessions had
both three-pointers for East. Leading scorer Dakota Marsden had
just one point.
What we learned from this game - The loss was East's eighth
straight and it's obvious a turnaround is needed soon or the
Leopards are headed for the region cellar.

Jan. 5 - Skyline 55, East 52
Story of the game - Brian Orr and Mike Staes scored 13 points
apiece as Skyline held off East in a non-region game and end a
three-game losing streak.
East's best moment - The game was close the entire way, and
East made a nice effort in the final period. Jack Larson led East with
15 points, while Parker Van Dyke had 11 and Dakota Marsden 10.
Skyline's best moment - The Eagles trailed 31-30 at halftime, but
outscored East 15-9 to build a small lead going into the final period.
Staes' effort was a season-high.
Statistical notes - Skyline made five three-pointers, but shot poorly
(16-30) from the free-throw line. East was 16-24. Dakota Marsden
had two treys for East. Jaden Jackson was held to five points.
What we learned from this game - This game between two
east-side rivals went down to the end, but East dropped to 0-5 in
games decided by five points or less.

Dec. 22 - West 67, East 48
Story of the game - Tyrell Corbin scored 29 points and new center
Gatete Djuma played a big role as West blew out East in a
non-region game between Salt Lake City rivals.
East's best moment - The Leopards played pretty evenly with West,
except for that second-quarter stretch. East had to change its game
plan, though, and that didn't help. Jack Larson led with 10 points
and Parker Van Dyke had eight.
West's best moment - The game was tied after the first quarter, but
West outscored East 26-9 in the second period, and that was the
difference. The 6-foot-10 Djuma created matchup problems inside,
and that helped Corbin and Jordan Tanner (16 points) on the
perimeter.
Statistical notes - Corbin hit a pair of three-pointers and bumped
his average to 21.5 ppg. At this rate, he could be among West's
career high scorers. West scored 26 points in the second quarter,
but was held to just seven points in the third. Ten players scored for
East.
What we learned from this game - West had a decided advantage
with Corbin, Tanner and now Djuma. East has a two-week break
and must improve quickly to be a factor in Region 6.

Dec. 18 - Granger 57, East 52 (OT)
Story of the game: Cody Thorup scored 14 points and former East
player Deng Deng added 13 as Granger bounced back in overtime
and held off East for its first win.
East's best moment: The Leopards trailed in the first half, but
rallied in the third quarter, and Nick Sessions' three-pointer at the
buzzer sent the game into overtime. Sessions finished with 12
points, while Parker Van Dyke had 11.
Granger's best moment: Granger led 27-16 at halftime. The
Lancers had a huge advantage in fouls, and outscored East 10-5 in
the extra session. Thorup's 14 points tied his season high, which
he also had in the opener.
Statistical notes: Granger was 23-43 at the free-throw line. East
was 8-19. Justin Evans was East's rebounding leader with nine.
This was Deng's second game and he played strong once again.
What we learned from this game: East put together a remarkable
comeback, and Sessions' shot was one he'll remember for a long
time.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 15 - Cyprus 63, East 59
Story of the game - Isaac Johnson led a balanced scoring attack
with 15 points as Cyprus hung on to beat East and earn its first
victory of the season.
Cyprus' best moment - The Pirates had a 15-point lead at halftime,
but saw it disappear in the final quarter. Besides Johnson, Marcus
Bryce and Marquis Newman had 11 points and Taylor Morris added
10.
East's best moment - The Leopards rallied in the fourth quarter
behind Jack Larson (17 points) and Dakota Marsden (15 points),
who had five three-point baskets, but came up short.
Statistical notes - These teams played twice last year, when they
were in the same region, and both games were close. Morris' effort
was his season best. Justin Evans had nine rebounds for East.
What we learned from this game - Ironically, the Pirates' first win is
on the road. This a team effort, too. The locker room had to be pretty
excited after this game.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 12 - Judge Memorial 58, East 47
Story of the game: Will Whitt and Zach Myaer scored 12 points
apiece as Judge Memorial turned back East in a battle between
neighborhood rivals.
East's best moment: Aaron Steffenson was East's top scorer with
12 points, but James Christiansen and Justin Evans pulled down
10 rebounds apiece. The Leopards played right with Judge until the
third quarter.
Judge's best moment: Judge led just 26-24 at halftime, but blew
the game open by outscoring East 18-10 in the third period. Collin
Lawless had a season-high 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Statistical notes: East hasn't beaten Judge since at least 2001
(eight straight games). Kelton Quinn came off the bench to score
eight points for Judge.
What we learned from this game: This neighborhood rivalry game
is losing its luster since East hasn't been to pull off a victory in a
while. Coach Skip Lowe is still trying to bring this team together.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Dec. 8 - Murray 70, East 43
Story of the game: David Collette and Justin Esgarciga scored 16
points apiece as Murray blew the game open in the third quarter
and whipped East for its first victory in a non-region game.
East's best moment: East trailed most of the game, and couldn't
stop Murray's inside-outside combination. Parker Van Dyke led a
balanced scoring effort with eight points.
Murray's best moment: This was a quality victory for the Spartans,
who (like East) let their last one get away. Esgarciga had the hot
hand outside, nailing three treys. Wyatt Woodard also had a pair.
Statistical notes: East shot just 7-17 from the free-throw line.
Murray was 14-20. Murray outscored East 20-9 in the key third
period.
What we learned from this game: After a decent effort down at
SUU, the Leopards didn't compete well in this game and fell to 1-3
overall. You won't win many high school games giving up 70 points.

Dec. 5 - Mtn. View 55, East 54
Story of the game: Kolton Gourley scored 20 points, including the
game-winning layup with 12 seconds remaining, to lift Mountain
View past East in the title game of the SUU Invitational in Cedar City.
East's best moment: The Leopards took the lead in the second
quarter and held a 10-point advantage in the final period. East had
a chance to win, but a traveling violation ended its hopes. James
Christiansen led a balanced-scoring effort with 11 points.
Mtn. View's best moment: Gourley and Taylor Warner each had 20
points, and provided almost all of the Bruins' offense. Mountain
View outscored East 18-12 in the final quarter.
Statistical notes: Both teams shots 75 percent from the free-throw
line. Jack Larson had nine points, and Dakota Marsden and Parker
Van Dyke had eight. The Bruins finished the game on a 15-4 run. In
the other game, Juab defeated host Cedar.
What we learned from this game: The Leopards let this one get
away, so the bus ride home probably wasn't as happy as it could
have been. East learned it needs to play a full four quarters.
Links: The St. George Spectrum had a little brief about the game.

There was no report in the Salt Lake Tribune.
Dec. 4 - East 68, Juab 51
Story of the game: Aaron Steffenson scored 14 points and pulled
down seven rebounds as East blew past Juab with a big third
quarter and earned its first win at the SUU Invitational in Cedar City.
East's best moment: East put together a good team effort. The
Leopards trailed 32-31 at halftime, but outscored Juab 23-9 in the
third period, and never let up. Jack Larson and Parker Van Dyke had
11 points and Dakota Marsden had 10.
Juab's best moment: The Wasps stayed right with East in the first
half, and Joey Lewis led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Dallin Kay chipped in with 10 points and Brock Orme had nine.
Statistical notes: East showed the deeper bench as 11 players
scored. Both teams shot about the same from the free-throw line.
Mountain View beat Cedar City in the other game.
What we learned from this game: The third quarter proved to be
the difference, so something must have happened at halftime.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt
Lake Tribune.
Nov. 24 - Park City 57, East 54
Story of the game: Jon Schettler scored 24 points as Park City built
an early lead and held on to beat East in the season opener for
both teams.
East's best moment: The Leopards trailed by nine points entering
the final quarter, but rallied behind Dakota Marsden, who scored 21
points, including five three-point baskets. Jack Larson backed up
Marsden with 10 points.
Park City's best moment: The Miners benefited a big free-throw
advantage, and they hit enough to hold on to the lead in this first
game. Brian Schettler had 12 points for Park City.
Statistical notes: East hit just 7-14 free throws, so they left some
points off the scoreboard. Sam Miller had eight points for Park City.
What we learned from this game: The Leopards lost a tough one,
but played well enough to think they might be improved from last
year. Park City was proud of its win over a 4A school.
