Feb. 17 - East 48, Cyprus 34
Story of the game: Sarah Tyler scored 14 points and Whitley
Jenkins had 10 points and 12 rebounds as East pulled away from
Cyprus in the fourth quarter and claimed the Region 6 win.
East's best moment: The game was tied 29-29 before East
dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Cyprus 19-5.
Cyprus' best moment: The Pirates rely on Kirstie Henriod for the
majority of their scoring, and she responded with 16 points to win
the Region 6 scoring crown. Sanshae Rasmussen added 10
points.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot badly from the free-throw line.
East was 4-11, while Cyprus was 8-19. Cyprus did not have a
three-pointer.
What we learned from this game: The win pulled East out of the
Region 6 cellar and allowed the Leopards to win in their final
home game.
Next: Both teams have completed their season.

Feb. 13 - Murray 52, East 31
Story of the game: Mariah Duran scored 18 points as Murray blew
out East with a big third quarter to remain in first place in Region 6.
East's best moment: The Leopards led 12-10 after the first
quarter, but had trouble outscoring after that, generating just five
and two points in the next two quarters. Whitley Jenkins topped
East's scorers with 10 points.
Murray's best moment: The Spartans led 21-17 at halftime, but
blew the game open by outscoring East 19-2 in the third period.
Duran had three of Murray's six three-point baskets.
Statistical notes: Murray hit 14-24 free throws, while East was just
8-23. East is averaging just 32 points in region play.
What we learned from this game: The loss was East's 11th in a
row, but it has been competitive in most of them.
Next: East plays host to Cyprus on "Senior Night" Feb. 17. Murray
takes on Granger at home the same night.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Feb. 10 - West 43, East 27
Story of the game: Rikie Gregg scored 14 points and led West's
devastating outside shooting attack as the Panthers defeated rival
East and earned a 4A state tournament berth.
East's best moment: The Leopards played West tough at their
place, but not here in West's gym. East just didn't have enough
offense to keep pace. Laura Kruse was East's top scorer with five
points.
West's best moment: West led 22-9 at halftime, and then kept
pouring it on in the third quarter to put the game away. The
Panthers had seven three-point baskets, led by Gregg with three.
Statistical notes: East was just 6-18 from the free-throw line; West
was 4-9. East had just one three-pointer.
What we learned from this game: This is the 95th year of the East-
West rivalry. Next year, the teams will be in different regions, so the
West booster club made a nice presentation commemorating this
rivalry.
Next: East goes to Murray on Feb. 13. West travels to Cyprus the
same night.

Feb. 6 - Cottonwood 54, East 31
Story of the game: Fehi Fakailoatonga led a balanced scoring
effort with 10 points as Cottonwood pulled away from East in the
third quarter and claimed the Region 6 win.
East's best moment: East was still in the game until it only
managed four points in the pivotal third quarter. Laura Kruse was
the Leopards' top scorer with nine points.
Cottonwood's best moment: The Colts led 26-16 halftime, but put
the game away by outscoring East 13-4 in the third period.
Cottonwood emptied its bench and 11 different players scored.
Statistical notes: East connected on just 2-10 free throws;
Cottonwood was 8-16. Jewel Peterson had eight points for
Cottonwood, including two three-pointers.
What we learned from this game: The Leopards are out of
contention for post-season play. Since they usually score in the
low 30s, a good defensive effort is going to be required to get a win.
Next: East travels to West on Feb. 10. Cottonwood plays host to
Cyprus the same night.

Feb. 3 - Olympus 40, East 33
Story of the game: Heather Giffin scored 14 points and Amanda
Diblee had 11 as Olympus grabbed the lead in the second quarter
and held off East in a Region 6 game.
East's best moment: The Leopards played tough, but just couldn't
creep close enough in the second half. Laura Kruse had 11 points
for East, including the team's only three-pointer.
Oly's best moment: The game was tied 8-8 after the first quarter,
but the Titans outscored East 11-3 to take a halftime lead. The
teams played evenly in the second half and Oly bounced back from
its loss to Murray.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot badly from the free-throw line.
Oly was 10-20 and East 4-9. Carly Duckworth had Oly's only three-
pointer. Ironically, Oly beat East by 19 points in East's gym.
What we learned from this game: East suffered its eighth straight
loss, and the remaining schedule makes it look like the Leopards
will stay in the region cellar.
Next: East has Cottonwood at home on Feb. 6. Oly plays host to
Highland the same night.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Jan. 30 - Granger 50, East 36
Story of the game: Mary Lavekihelotu scored a season-high 21
points to lead Granger to its first Region 6 victory over the season
over East.
East's best moment: The Leopards led 9-8 after the first quarter
and stayed right with Granger. Liz Fetzer was East's top scorer with
13 points.
Granger's best moment: Granger led 21-20 at halftime, but pulled
away in the second half. The Lancers built their lead to nine points
by the end of the third quarter. Ryna Leota added 13 points and
Martha Haiola had 10.
Statistical notes: East connect on just 10-29 free throws; Granger
was 13-23. East won by 15 points earlier this season on Granger's
home floor.
What we learned from this game: East and Granger are now tied
in the region standings, and it now seems obvious that both teams
won't reach the 4A state tournament.
Next: East is at Olympus on Feb. 3. Granger plays at Cottonwood
the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 27 - Highland 64, East 33
Story of the game: Chanel Roe and Beauty Taukalau scored 16
points apiece as Highland roared to a big first-quarter lead and
buried East in a Region 6 game.
East's best moment: The Leopards were never in this game, and
it resulted in their worst region loss of the season. Liz Fetzer had
nine points and Sarah Tyler had eight.
Highland's best moment: The Rams led 20-3 after the first period,
and were never threatened. They added to the lead in the third
quarter. Vaiola Lea’aetoa added 12 points.
Statistical notes: East was 9-24 free throws, while Highland was
5-13. Highland had five three-pointers; East had none.
What we learned from this game: Another loss for East, and they
weren't very competitive in this one. That seems odd since this
was a rivalry game.
Next: East has Granger at home on Jan. 30. Highland plays host
to Cyprus the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 23 - Olympus 45, East 26
Story of the game: Carly Duckworth scored 12 points and Heather
Giffin and Amanda Diblee had nine each as Olympus downed
East to stay unbeaten and in first place in Region 6.
East's best moment: East stayed with Oly in the fourth quarter,
when the game was already out of reach. Leading scorer Liz Fetzer
recovered quickly from laser-eye surgery to lead East with 12
points.
Oly's best moment: The Titans led the entire game. It was 25-16
at halftime, but then Oly outscored East 11-2 in the third quarter to
make the advantage insurmountable. Kaitlyn Adamson had a pair
of three-pointer for Oly.
Statistical notes: East scored just four points in the opening
quarter, and was held to two in the third period. Oly was 17-27 from
the free-throw line; East was 6-10.
What we learned from this game: East dropped its fifth straight
region game and is now in seventh place in the standings. The
Leopards need to pull off at least two upsets in the second half of
region play.
Next: East goes to Highland on Jan. 27. Oly takes on Cyprus at
home the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 20 - Cyprus 55, East 42
Story of the game: Kirstie Henriod scored 24 points and helped
Cyprus pull away during a big second quarter in the Pirates
Region 6 win over East.
East's best moment: East had the game tied 10-10 after one
quarter and, after falling behind, made a nice effort in the final
period when it scored 21 points. Liz Fetzer led the way with 12
points.
Cyprus' best moment: The Pirates outscored East 16-2 in the
second quarter and never gave in to the Leopards' rally attempts.
Henriod was the top scorer, as she has been in every game this
season.
Statistical notes: Ashlyn Mulford chipped in 13 points for Cyprus,
which ended a two-game losing streak. East combined for just 11
points in the middle two quarters.
What we learned from this game: The Leopards have lost four
straight, but the 42-point effort was their third best offensively this
season.
Next: East returns home to play league-leading Olympus Jan. 23.
Cyprus takes on Murray at home the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 16 - Murray 35, East 23
Story of the game: Mariah Duran scored 13 points and Murray
held East to just one point in the second quarter, pulling away to
take the Region 6 win.
East's best moment: The Leopards fell behind quickly, but made a
decent second-half rally, outscoring Murray 18-12. Liz Fetzer and
Susannah Hertz had six points apiece.
Murray's best moment: The Spartans led 10-4 after the first
quarter, and expanded it to 23-5 at halftime. Duran had three treys.
She was helped by teammate Maddy Woodard, who added nine
points.
Statistical notes: The 23 points is East's second lowest of the
season. The Leopards only average 36 points a game. Murray was
just 2-9 from the free-throw line. East was 7-11. Duran had three
treys for Murray.
What we learned from this game: The Leopards fell to 1-4 in
region and, with their offense, they're not going to win many
games. In both of their wins, they've scored 44 points.
Next: East travels to Cyprus on Jan. 20. Murray plays at Granger
the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 13 - West 34, East 33
Story of the game: Valencia Manu scored 16 points as West
managed to hold off East, even though the Leopards had four
shots miss in the last 14 seconds of the game.
East's best moment: This game was close throughout and both
teams played great defense. East got nine points from Sarah Tyler
and eight from Laura Kruse.
West's best moment: Everyone will have their own theory about
this game, but the stats show West won this game at the free-
throw line, where it was 7-12, compared to East's 4-14.
Statistical notes: Rikie Gregg had eight points for East. Manu had
three treys, and Gregg two for West. Tyler had a game-high 11
rebounds for East.
What we learned from this game: In Region 6 games so far, the
point differential has been about seven points, but there have been
a lot of close games. You have to learn to win those.
Next: East has a home game against Murray Jan. 16. West returns
home to play Cyprus.
Links: There was no local media coverage at this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 9 - Cottonwood 35, East 30
Story of the game: McKenzie Anderson scored 12 points as
Cottonwood held off East in a game that had several momentum
changes.
East's best moment: The Leopards made a good rally in the
second quarter that got them back into the game. Sarah Tyler led
East with nine points.
Cottonwood's best moment: The Colts leaped to a 15-6 lead, let
East back into the game, and then had another burst in the third
quarter. The fourth quarter was full of defense. Angie Schwartz
added seven points.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot badly from the free-throw line.
Cottonwood had three treys, while East had none. Since the region
opener against Murray, the Colts have played good defense.
What we learned from this game: East played good defense once
again, but the offense just didn't provide enough scoring. There are
signs of improvement, though.
Next: East plays host to West on Jan. 13. Cottonwood travels to
Cyprus the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage at this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
brief, click here.
Jan. 6 - East 44, Granger 29
Story of the game: Liz Fetzer scored a season-high 16 points as
East built a small lead and slowly expanded it throughout the
game.
East's best moment: The Leopards took the lead early, claiming a
10-4 first-quarter lead, and never relinquished it. East hit 8-14 free
throws, which was enough down the stretch to hold on to the win.
Granger's best moment: The Lancers played evenly with East in
the second and third quarters, but the other periods made the
difference. Martha Haiola led the Lancers with nine points, while
Vahine Tuigamala had eight.
Statistical notes: Granger once again shot poorly from the free-
throw line, hitting just 8-22. The 29 points was a season low and
the best defensive effort by East.
What we learned from this game: After losing at home, East
manages to win on the road. This was a confidence-booster.
Next: East travels to play Cottonwood on Jan. 9. Granger goes to
Cyprus the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 2 - Highland 38, East 27
Story of the game: Senior guard Mixsa Kafi scored 15 points and
Highland blew out to an early lead and turned back East in a
Region 6 game between East side rivals.
East's best moment: The Leopards were trailing 27-14 entering
the fourth period when they finally got their offense going. They
were also helped by Highland's poor free-throw shooting, but still
couldn't catch up.
Highland's best moment: The Rams led 13-4 after one quarter
and 22-8 at halftime. The defense was making things difficult for
East and they coasted to the win.
Statistical notes: The 27 points given up was a season low for
Highland. The Rams were 3-11 from the free-throw line. Liz Fetzer
led East with nine points. Kafi's 15 points was a season high.
Chanel Roe had eight.
What we learned from this game: It was the season opener and
Highland's defense was exceptional, although East isn't an
offensive power.
Next: East goes to Granger on Jan. 6. Highland travels to Cyprus
the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Dec. 31 - Wasatch 74, East 38
Story of the game: Kim Parker scored 19 points as Wasatch blew
out East in the second half and handed the Leopards their sixth
straight loss.
East's best moment: The Leopards trailed 16-6 after the first
quarter, but stayed within reach of Wasatch in the second quarter.
Laura Kruse led East with 11 points.
Wasatch's best moment: The Wasps are a 3A power and had
their way with East on their home court. Wasatch outscored East
39-17 in the second half.
Statistical notes: Wasatch hit 23-31 free throws, while East was
15-23. Only seven players scored for Wasatch, suggested it didn't
substitute freely in the second half. East's top scorer, Liz Fetzer,
had just two points.
What we learned from this game: This was a makeup game that
was originally scheduled for Dec. 19, but changed due to a
snowstorm. East has two 3A teams on its schedule and both have
given the Leopards big losses.
Next: East opens Region 6 play at home against Highland Jan. 2.
Wasatch goes to Carbon the same night.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Dec. 17 - Hillcrest 34, East 23
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored 12 points and Hillcrest
held East without a point in the second quarter en route to a
defensive-minded non-region win.
East's best moment: East played Hillcrest tough for most of the
game. The second-quarter drought really didn't hurt because the
Leopards only gave up four points in that span. Liz Fetzer had six
points for East.
Hillcrest's best moment: Any time you hold a team without a point
in a quarter, it's a proud moment for your defense. Still, this was a
close game and Amundsen's points were the difference.
Statistical notes: There were few fouls called as Hillcrest hit 3-4
free throws and East was 1-4. The 23 points given up was a
season-low for Hillcrest's defense.
What we learned from this game: East goes into the Christmas
break with a 1-5 record and the Leopards' offensive production has
been weak. They haven't scored more than 30 points since the
opener.
Next: East is off until Dec. 31 when it travels to 3A power Wasatch.
Hillcrest goes to Granger Dec. 19.

Dec. 12 - Lehi 42, East 29
No information available.
Dec. 9 - Judge Memorial 76, East 21
Story of the game: Erika Martinez scored 18 points and Tina
Fakahafua had 15 as Judge rolled to a 25-0 first-quarter lead and
routed East in a non-region game between neighborhood rivals.
East's best moment: This was basically a repeat of the Sky View
game. Once again, East had trouble scoring. Laura Kruse led with
six points on a couple of three-point baskets.
Judge Memorial's best moment: The first quarter had to be great,
then it became embarrassing. Judge was able to empty its bench
early and 10 players scored. Mikelle Mancini and Rosie Neville
reached double figures with 11 and 10 points.
Statistical notes: Last year, East beat the Bulldogs so the
Leopards have lost a lot of talent. For the third straight game, it has
taken East until the third quarter to reach double figures (10 points).
What we learned from this game: Judge is a good team, but East
is showing that it may be really bad. And, if that's true, what about
Tooele (which lost to East)?
Next: East returns home to play Lehi Dec. 12. Judge has a home
game against Bountiful Dec. 11.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 6 - Box Elder 48, East 23
Story of the game: Peacock scored 10 points and Kelli Farr added
eight points and 20 rebounds as Box Elder blew out East in the
first half and coasted to victory.
East's best moment: The game was over by halftime as East,
once again, had trouble scoring. The Leopards did play Box Elder
evenly in the fourth quarter. Sarah Tyler had seven points and
Jacklyn Lui had six.
Box Elder's best moment: The Bees dominated from the start and
had a 29-7 halftime lead. This game was a big momentum boost
for Box Elder, which lost 55-15 to Rich the night before.
Statistical notes: Box Elder hit four three-pointers, led by Peacock
with two. East was just 5-16 from the free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: The results from this
tournament isn't a good sign. East was soundly beaten by a good
team - and one that may not be so good. The Leopards have long
way to go.
Next: East takes on neighborhood rival Judge Memorial on Dec. 9.
Box Elder has a home game against West the same night.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 5 - Sky View 75, East 26
Story of the game: Dani Egbert scored 15 points and Sky View
used two impressive runs of 18-0 and 26-0 in the first half to roll to
a commanding lead and embarrass East.
East's best moment: It had to be the fourth quarter, when East
scored 13 points, which matched its point total for the first three
quarters combined. Liz Fetzer led East with nine points.
Sky View's best moment: OK. This team is good. The Bobcats led
46-8 at halftime and cleared their bench in the second half. Sky
View hit eight three-point baskets in the game.
Statistical notes: Ten players scored for the Bobcats. which is
now 3-0. Sky View is averaging 72.0 points per game as a team.
East didn't reach double figures until the third quarter.
What we learned from this game: This was a real eye-opener for
East after it won its first game. Then again, Sky View ripped East's
rival - West - 87-36 just a few days ago.
Next: East plays Box Elder today (Dec. 6) at the Sky View
tournament. Sky View will take on Rich.

the game, but it costs $2.50 to view it.
Nov. 25 - East 44, Tooele 39
Story of the game: Laura Kruse scored 10 points and Liz Fetzer
had nine as East used a big fourth quarter to beat Tooele in the
season opener for both teams.
East's best moment: East seemed to have the better
opportunities, but the game was tied after three quarters. The
Leopards used balanced scoring.
Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes had a nice rally in the
second quarter, coming from a nine-point deficit to take the lead.
Tooele hit 23-32 free throws, which kept them in the game.
Statistical notes: This game was foul-plagued as the free-throw
shooting attempts show. Sharon Lyman had a game-high 13
points for Tooele.
What we learned from this game: Season openers can be tough,
but East almost lost this game because of its horrible free-throw
shooting (12-34).
Next: East travels to Hyrum to play in Sky View's tournament Dec. 5-
6. Tooele goes to Box Elder Dec. 2.
