Oct. 23 - Cyprus 34, Granger 21

Story of the game - A big win for Cyprus. Trent Dea and Jordan
Pulou rushed for two touchdowns each as Cyprus rallied the fourth
quarter to beat Granger and advance to the 4-A playoffs.

Granger's best moment - The Lancers scored a big plays, like an
80-yard pass from QB Brentt Phillips to Tali Houma and Manu
Samani's 40-yard run. Granger ran out of gas in the fourth quarter.

Cyprus' best moment - This was the Pirates' finest moment, and it
quelled the problems they have had on their home field. Their
offense scored a season-high 34 points. The game was tied 21-21
entering the fourth quarter, and Cyprus put it away.

What was learned from the game - The Lancers missed the
post-season, but Samani emerged as a game-breaker and
Granger lived by the big play. This program gained some
momentum this season.

Next - Granger's season is over. Cyprus advances to the 4-A
playoffs and will play at Mountain Crest.

Oct. 15 - Cottonwood 42, Granger 6

Story of the game - Isi Sofele ran for 138 yards and three
touchdowns, and the Colts' defense was its usual self. The
difference might have been Cottonwood's special teams, which
came through with a punt return for a touchdown by Kyle Aberton
and a blocked punt return by Mafua for another score.

Granger's best moment - This would have had to be a special
night for Granger to have a chance. RB Manu Samani broke loose
for a 48-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. The Lancers held
Cottonwood to one score after halftime.

Cottonwood's best moment - The Colts jumped to a 28-0 lead in
the first quarter as Sofele ran for a score and QB Steve Romero hit
Jason Lundquist for another TD. The special-teams scores came
in the opening quarter, too.

What we learned from this game - This was not a winnable game
for Granger. The Lancers still have a chance for a 4-A playoff berth,
but have to beat Cyprus next week.

Next - Granger travels to play Cyprus. Cottonwood returns home to
play
Olympus.

Oct. 10 - Olympus 34, Granger 31

Story of the game - QB Spencer Harris scored on a two-yard run
with 9:46 left in the game as the Titans overcame a huge 289-yard
effort by Granger's Manu Samani to claim their first Region 6 victory
on homecoming night.

Granger's' best moment - Samani had the best game of any Utah
high school back this year. He scored three touchdowns, including
a 93-yard run. He also caught three passes for 81 yards. QB Brentt
Phillips was also 7 of 16 for 141 yards.

Oly's best moment - The Titans scored every time they had the ball
in the first half, and led 27-6 at one point. Harris was 12 of 13 for
220 yards and three TDs by halftime. Jordan Archibald, O.J. Visser
and Jace Peterson caught scoring passes for Olympus.

What was learned from the game - This was a winnable game,
and a great effort by Granger. The Lancers made several big plays
on fourth-down plays. Now, Granger's playoff hopes are limited. It
could come down to the Oct. 24 game against Cyprus.

Next - Granger returns home to play Region 6 power Cottonwood.
Olympus travels to Murray.

Oct. 3 - Granger 26, Murray 7

Story of the game - RB Manu Samani rushed for 201 yards on 21 carries, including two touchdowns, to lift Granger to 26-7 and ruin the
Spartans homecoming, as well as their best chance to earn a win this year.

Granger's' best moment - Coach Jonny Matich said nothing to the players at halftime. The Lancers rejuvenated themselves, scoring
TDs on their first two drives of the second half. Leka Sime added a score on an interception return.

Murray's best moment - The Spartans took the lead, thrilling the crowd, when QB Nate Davis hit Travis Goettsche on a 2-yard TD pass.
Murray's defense was also impressive as the Spartans kept the lead throughout the first half.

What was learned from the game - It was Granger's first Region 6 win, and first win since Aug. 22. It was the Lancers' best offensive
output of the season. The key was Samani, who has to have a good game for Granger to be competitive.

Next - Granger has a game at Olympus. Murray plays at West.

Sept. 26 - East 48, Granger 7

Story of the game - Edward Fakahafua rushed for 73 yards on 10 carries to lead a balanced offensive attack to lift East to a big first-half
lead and an easy win over Granger in a Region 6 game.

Granger's best moment - Manu Samani ran for 81 yards on 17 carries. He also scored the Lancers' only touchdown in the fourth
quarter. The Lancers at least prevented the rout from starting earlier when Daniel Fusitua intercepted a pass in the end zone.

East's best moment - The Leopards' defense was dominant. Leading 24-0, Edward Tanner intercepted a pass late in the first half and
raced 30 yards for a touchdown.

What we learned from this game - The Lancers' offense still has not reached its potential, but the next two weeks might be an
opportunity, even though both are road games.

Next - Granger travels to play Murray. East returns home to take on Olympus.

Sept. 19 - Highland 34, Granger 8

Story of the game - Travis Walzer scored two touchdowns and QB Nick Orchard ran for one and passed for another as the Rams built a
34-0 halftime lead and whipped Granger in their homecoming game.

Granger's best moment - The Lancers kept Highland from scoring in the second half, and got rid of the goose egg on the scoreboard
when Brentt Phillips hit Jose Corona on a 12-yard TD pass. The Lancers also converted on the two-point conversion.

Highland's best moment - Jordan Crayton had 121 yards in punt returns and helped the Rams get good field position. Sione
Inukihaangana and Muli Kinikini had touchdowns for Highland, too.

What was learned from the game - This was a game between the "haves" and "have nots." Highland is simply the better team.

Next week - Granger returns home to take on East. Highland travels to Olympus.

Sept. 12 - West 26, Granger 0

Story of the game - RB Tana Afeaki rushed for 143 yards on 23 carries as West played its best game of the season, opening Region 6
play by whipping Granger 26-0 and ruining the Lancers' homecoming.

Granger's best moment - This is the second straight disappointing loss. On one drive, QB Brentt Phillips had runs of 25 and 12 yards to
get the Lancers into scoring position, but it fizzled.

West's best moment - With coach Randy Schreiter suspended for the game, Afeaki led the offense, and the defense also helped.
Leading 10-0 at the start of the third quarter, Junior Vea picked up a fumble and ran 37 yards for a touchdown.

What was learned from the game - A shutout loss certainly can't help the momentum of Granger's already struggling offense. Things
don't get easier either as the Lancers hit the road for the first time. They also player Region 6 powers in their next two games.

Next week - Granger travels to play Highland in a Region 6 game. West returns home to play Olympus.

Sept. 5 - Ogden 31, Granger 8

Aug. 29 - Roy 14, Granger 7

Story of the game - Manu Samani had another good game, rushing for 100 yards on 20 carries, but Granger's offense didn't have
enough firepower to derail the Roy Royals and it resulted in a narrow home loss. Granger had a chance to tie the game late, but was
stopped at the 3-yard line as time expired.

Granger's best moment - In a perfect world, Samani's rushing total would be enough for the Lancers to win. But this early in the season,
mistakes occur (penalties, turnovers, etc...). Samani scored on a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter to give Granger the momentum, but it
wasn't enough at the end.

Roy's best moment - The Royals were embarrassed last week at home, so this game was so Roy could rally. QB Chase Moore threw
for one TD and ran for another as Roy took a 14-0 lead and held on for its first win of the season.

What was learned from the game - Granger has a defense, but its offense needs some work - just like last year. This was a winnable
game that got away. The Lancers have their first four games at home, so they need to get on a roll going into the region season.

Next week - Granger has another home game - against Ogden. Roy returns home to play Weber.

Aug. 22 - Granger 14, Taylorsville 7

Story of the game - Granger's Manu Samani was a workhorse, rushing for 104 yards on 18 carries, to lead the Lancers to a 14-7
non-region win over Taylorsville - the first of four straight home games. The Lancers led 14-0 at halftime and held on to the win.

Granger's best moment - The Lancers had to be feeling good after the first quarter, when they had a 14-0 lead. The other score game
on a 42-yard pass from QB Brentt Phillips to T.J. Tapusoa.

Taylorsville's best moment - After getting behind, the Warriors didn't give up. They scored on what must have been a muffed or blocked
punt return by Taylor Mattson. Unfortunately, Taylorsville's offense never could break through.

What was learned from the game -  Both teams figured to start slowly. Granger has the advantage with four straight home games to
start the season, and that 1-0 record has to look good now. Taylorsville is still trying to find itself, and that will likely come with more
practice and game experience.

Next week - Granger takes on Roy (0-1) in another non-region home game. Taylorsville has to play on the road at Riverton.
