Story of the game - Mark Krueger scored a season-high 18 points
as Juan Diego pulled away from Grantsville in the second half and
captured its sixth straight Region 10 game.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys got balanced scoring
from Josh Harrison, Caleb Nesbitt and Ben Tripp and trailed only
33-29 going into halftime. Harrison and Dalen Erickson also
nailed a couple of three-pointers each.
Juan Diego's best moment - The Soaring Eagle expanded their
four-point halftime lead by outscoring Grantsville 15-8 in the third
period. Logan Mortenson added 14 points and Ajay Pizza had 13.
Statistical notes - Mortenson had three of Juan Diego's six
three-point baskets. Tripp's 10-point effort was his best since the
second game of the season. The loss ended a three-game win
streak at home.
What we learned from this game - Grantsville started the second
half of the Region 10 season with a loss and fell to 2-4 in region
this season.

Jan. 22 - Morgan 66, Grantsville 45
Story of the game - Matt Largent came off the bench to score 15
points and Braden Saunders had 13 as Morgan built a 16-point
halftime lead and downed Grantsville in a Region 11 game.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys trailed most of the way
and the game got out of hand in the second period. Caleb Nesbitt
scored 12 points and Ben Tripp had Eli Hamm had nine each.
Morgan's best moment - The Trojans outscored Grantsville 22-12
in the second period and had the game in hand. Morgan recorded
16 steals and had plenty of fast-break opportunities.
Statistical notes - Scott Clark added 10 points for Morgan, which
stayed ahead of Grantsville in the standings with the win.
Grantsville had just one three-point basket.
What we learned from this game - This was Grantsville's chance
to move into third place, but instead goes into the second half of
the region season with a 2-3 region record.

Jan. 20 - Grantsville 50, Bear River 41
Story of the game - Josh Harrison scored 14 points and Caleb
Nesbitt had 12 as Grantsville held off Bear River and kept the
Bears winless this season.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys took a 9-4 lead in the
first quarter and was up on Bear River the entire game. Damon
Deavila added nine points.
Bear River's best moment - Derek White had eight points for Bear
River, which played a lot of players and had eight different players
score. The Bears put up 20 points in the final quarter put some
pressure on the home team.
Statistical notes - Grantsville shot 18-32 from the free throw line,
but really came through in the final quarter. Bear River was 9-18.
Grantsville outscored the Bears 33-31 in the second half. Both
teams made two three-pointers.
What we learned from this game - The Bears improved to 2-2 in
region and are currently tied for third place. This was a big win as
they hope to earn a 3A state tournament berth.

Jan. 15 - Judge Memorial 69, Grantsville 40
Story of the game - Basil Vetas scored 15 points and Ben Cook
added 14 to help Judge Memorial roar past Grantsville in a Region
11 game.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys started slowly, and
trailed the entire game. Dalen Erickson tried to engineer a
comeback with 14 points, including three treys. Austin Cunliffe
added 12 points.
Judge's best moment - The Bulldogs' defense recorded 19
steals, and that helped Judge jump to a 13-2 first-quarter lead.
Daniel Shiramizu and Zach Myaer each contributed 11 points.
Statistical notes - Judge C Will Whitt had eight points and 10
rebounds. This was Grantsville's biggest loss of the season.
Shiramizu led Judge with six steals.
What we learned from this game - Shortly after their biggest
victory, the Cowboys fizzled against Judge. Grantsville didn't take
care of the ball, and that led to a lot of fastbreak points.

Jan. 13 - Grantsville 45, Ben Lomond 36
Story of the game - Austin Cunliffe scored 12 points to help
Grantsville play one of its best games of the season, and the
Cowboys knocked off Ben Lomond to earn its first Region 11
victory of the season.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys led most of the way,
and a lot of different players were involved. Grantsville kept
extending the lead, and hit 17-20 free throws to nail down the
victory.
Ben Lomond's best moment - The Scots came in with just one
loss, but couldn't keep up. Dalton Zundel and Jared Jackson were
the team's leading scorers with 10 points.
Statistical notes - Dalen Erickson had 10 points, and Eli Hamm
and Josh Harrison nine each for the Cowboys. Grantsville
outrebounded Ben Lomond 25-19.
What we learned from this game - The Cowboys earned this
much-needed win and it should give them confidence in upcoming
games.

Jan. 8 - Juan Diego 53, Grantsville 50
Story of the game - Ajay Pizza scored 14 points and Morgan
Hesleph had 13 as Juan Diego built a small lead and held off
Grantsville in the Region 11 opener for both teams.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys clawed back into the
game after falling behind 16-7 in the first quarter. Josh Harrison
scored 16 points and had seven rebounds as Grantsville put
together a strong inside game. Eli Hamm added 10.
Juan Diego's best moment - Pizza can score from anywhere, and
Hesleph had his usual strong game from the perimeter. Juan
Diego connected on 14-of-20 free throws, many down the stretch,
to secure the win.
Statistical notes - Grantsville made 20-of-30 free throws.
Grantsville had two three-pointers. Hesleph had Juan Diego's only
trey. The Cowboys had the rebounding advantage.
What we learned from this game - The Cowboys played well, and
almost pulled off the upset. Grantsville has lost three straight, but
we still don't seem to know yet how good this team will be.

Jan. 5 - North Summit 60, Grantsville 55
Story of the game - Cameron Bowen scored 23 points and pulled
down 14 rebounds, leading North Summit to a big second-half
rally over Grantsville in a non-region game.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys played well in the first
half, taking a 33-24 advantage at intermission and still held the
lead going into the final period. Austin Cunliffe and Josh Harrison
had 10 points apiece and the team did a nice job rebounding.
North Summit's best moment - Bowen, a 6-foot-7 senior, had his
way inside against the smaller Cowboys. He also got help from
Makay Fristrup and Brady Vernon. The Braves outscored
Grantsville 19-10 in the final period.
Statistical notes - Grantsville lost this game from the free-throw
line, hitting only 2-11 charity shots. North Summit was 16-28. Ben
Tripp and Caleb Nesbitt each had eight points and seven
rebounds.
What we learned from this game - This was a winnable game,
but it dropped Grantsville to 3-8 going into the Region 11 season.
North Summit improved its record to 5-5.

Dec. 30 - Moapa Valley, Nev. 58, Grantsville 38
Story of the game - Moapa Valley's tough defense gave Grantsville
fits in the final game of the Steve Hodson tournament and the
Pirates earned a 20-point win.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys fell behind early, but
played with Moapa in the second period. It got out of hand after that
and Grantsville had trouble with fouls. Caleb Nesbitt and Josh
Harrison had eight points apiece.
Moapa Valley's best moment - The Pirates took the lead early and
then blew the game open by outscoring Grantsville 17-6 in the third
period.
Statistical notes - Harrison was Grantsville's rebounding leader
with six. The Overton, Nev., paper reported that the Cowboys had
some players foul out and some technicals were called.
What we learned from this game - This was a tough way to end
the tournament. Grantsville finished 1-2, but probably learned a lot
playing the Nevada teams.

Dec. 29 - Grantsville 51, Canyon View 43
Story of the game - Josh Harrison scored 15 points, including a
key rebound and two free throws late in the game, as Grantsville
held off Canyon View at the Steve Hodson Classic in Cedar City.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys led 31-29 going into
the final period. They won the game from the free-throw line, where
they went 6-7 in the final period. Harrison got the rebound on the
miss, too.
Canyon View's best moment - The Falcons got within 45-42, but
that was it. Logan Staheli was the team's top scorer with 12 points.
Sterling Anderson had 10.
Statistical notes - Grantsville 12-16 from the free-throw line for the
game. Harrison had a pair of three-pointers for Grantsville.
What we learned from this game - The Cowboys beat the home
team, which fell to 0-9 on the season. This counts as Grantsville's
first road win this season.

Valley rallied from an early deficit to beat Grantsville in the first
round of the Steve Hodson Classic in Cedar City.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys led 12-11 after the first
period, but couldn't stay with Virgin Valley after that. Josh Harrison

Virgin Valley's best moment - The Bulldogs dominated after the
first period, outscoring Grantsville 46-24. Cameron Jensen had 10

Grantsville's only three-pointer.
What we learned from this game - Grantsville's offense didn't do

Story of the game - Austin Harrison scored 11 points as
Grantsville held off North Sanpete in a non-region contest and
ended its four-game losing streak.
Grantsville's best moment - After scoring just two points in the
third quarter and watching their lead dwindle to a pair, the
Cowboys erupted for 19 in the final quarter. Caleb Nesbitt added
nine points.
North Sanpete's best moment - The Hawks rallied in the third
period, outscoring Grantsville 7-2 to make it anyone's game. Dylan
Larsen was the team's top scorer with 11 points.
Statistical notes - North Sanpete made just one three-pointer and
shot 9-26 from the free-throw line. Grantsville was 18-30.
What we learned from this game - The Cowboys made a big
push in the second and fourth quarters and that made the
difference. They made enough FTs at the end to hold on to the
victory.

Story of the game - Tyler Shamo scored 20 points and Delta
benefited from a huge advantage in fouls to edge Grantsville in a
non-region game.

quarter, but slowly fell further behind after that. Dalen Erickson was
Grantsville's top scorer with 11 points while Caleb Nesbitt added
10.
Delta's best moment - Shamo and Colin Christensen (10 points)
provided most of the Rabbits' offense. Delta connected on 20-27
free throws, many of those late in the game, to hold on to the win.
Statistical notes - Grantsville was 9-17 from the free-throw line.

for the Cowboys. Grantsville scored 10 points in each quarter.
What we learned from this game - The Cowyboys dropped their
fourth straight - and second in a row - at home. The offense has

Story of the game - Braxton Nielsen had a career-high 24 points
as Union hung on to beat Grantsville in a non-region game.

points. The game went down to the wire and both teams had
chances to win.
Union's best moment - The hot-shooting Nielsen was a one-man
show at times, and helped Union rally from a two-point halftime
deficit with a big third quarter. Colton Jacobson added nine points.
Statistical notes - Both teams shoot poorly from the free-throw
line. Union was 19-33. Grantsville 14-24. Austin Cunliffe and

What we learned from this game - This was a winnable game,
but the Cowboys lost their third straight. It was also a close game,
and Grantsville needs to find a way to win those.

Story of the game - Sam Sisk had a season-high 18 points and
Brian Schettler added 14 to help Park City bounce Grantsville in
front of an excited home crowd.
Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys trailed throughout. It
was 51-33 going into the final period, but the team's reserves
narrowed the gap a bit. Dalen Erickson led with 13 points.
Park City's best moment - The Miners were clearly the dominant
team, and got a good effort from Sisk, Schettler and others. Britton
Buford and Jon Schettler each contributed seven points.
Statistical notes - This was Park City's home opener and ended a
two-game losing streak. The Miners led 33-21 at halftime. Austin
Cunliffe had nine points, including Grantsville's only three-pointer.
What we learned from this game - The Cowboys fell to 0-3 in road
games, and this one was never in doubt.

Tooele's best moment - The Buffaloes led 34-29 entering the final

What we learned from this game - This was a great defensive
battle that went right down to the wire. With three high schools in

Cowboys thrilled the home crowd. Cyprus outscored Grantsville

Grantsville, and it came in-between rivalry contests, so this could

Story of the game - Taylor Hunt and former Cowboy Reggie
Roberts scored 14 points apiece as Stansbury captured its first
boys basketball win over Grantsville.
Grantsville's best moment - The game was close until the final
buzzer. Grantsville trailed by one point entering the fourth quarter.
Austin Cunliffe was the Cowboys' top scorer with 10 points, while
Calen Nesbitt had nine.
Stansbury's best moment - The Stallions had an 11-0 run in the
second quarter, and then went on a 14-2 run to end the game,
which was the difference. Hunt and Roberts combined for five
three-point baskets.
Statistical notes - Stansbury hit 8-11 free throws; Grantsville was
7-10. Grantsville was hit with a pair of technical fouls near the end
of the game.
What we learned from this game - These teams didn't play in
football, so this was their first battle in the "major" sports, and it
showed. This was the start of a good rivalry.
