Feb. 13 - Morgan 76, Grantsville 66
Story of the game:
Braden Saunders
scored 18 points as
Morgan rallied in the
second quarter and
held off Grantsville in
the final Region 11
regular-season game
of the season.
Grantsville's best
moment: The
Cowboys took the
early lead. They hit
nine of their first 11
shots and eventually
built a 12-point margin.
Alex Childs and
Reggie and Jake
Roberts led a fourth-
quarter rally, but it fell
short. Childs and
Reggie Roberts each
finished with 17 points.
Morgan's best
moment: Morgan
outscored Grantsville 23-11 in the second quarter to earn a
six-point halftime lead, and the Trojans extended it after halftime.
They hit enough of their free throws in the fourth quarter to finish it
off.
Statistical notes: Morgan was 21-32 from the free-throw line;
Grantsville was just 10-26. Reggie Roberts had three treys. Jake
Roberts finished with 13 points.
What we learned from this game: The Cowboys finished the
season with a 4-16 record, and lost their last nine games. They
learned a new system under coach Shane Heath. Next year, they
will be in a new region.
Next: Grantsville has concluded its season.

Feb. 11 - Bear River 74, Grantsville 48
Story of the game: Matt Weyland scored 20 points as Bear River
traveled to Grantsville and was able to empty its bench in routing
the Cowboys in a Region 11 game.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys were never in this game,
but played their best in the third quarter when they stayed even with
Bear River. Reggie Roberts had nine points, while Ben Tripp and
Alex Childs had eight.
Bear River's best moment: The Bears led 18-3 late in the first
quarter and 36-20 at halftime. Twelve different players scored. Bear
River was still hurting from suffering its first loss the previous week.
Statistical notes: The game was a foul fest as they combined to
shot almost 60 free throws. Tyson Taylor had three treys for Bear
River.
What we learned from this game: The loss was Grantsville's
eighth straight. The Cowboys learned quickly that an upset win
wasn't likely to occur on this night.
Next: Grantsville finishes the season with a game at Morgan Feb.
13. Bear River plays host to Logan in a game that will decide the
Region 11 title.

Feb. 6 - Logan 75, Grantsville 54
Story of the game: Zach Skabelund scored 23 points as Logan
built a big lead early and went on to blow out Grantsville in a Region
11 game.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys fell behind 26-14 after
the first quarter, but the narrowed the gap with a nice comeback in
the third period. They couldn't keep it up, though, and fell apart in the
final minutes to make the score look bigger than it was.
Logan's best moment: Skabelund, Omar McDade (16 points) and
Darrick McIntosh (15) got the Grizzlies off to a good start. Logan
didn't substitute freely late, either, and outscored Grantsville 20-5 in
the final period.
Statistical notes: Reggie Roberts had 14 points for Grantsville, and
Alex Childs had 12. Only five players scored for Logan; six for
Grantsville. The Grizzlies won both game in this season series by
20 points or more.
What we learned from this game: Winning at Logan is never easy,
but Grantsville had its moments. The team's role in the region race
now is "spoiler," and a win would lift it out of the cellar.
Next: Grantsville's last home game of the season will be Feb. 11
against Bear River. Logan takes on Ben Lomond at home the same
night.

Story of the game: Tyler Garder scored 16 points and Ben Lomond
hit its free throws in the final minutes to hold off Grantsville in a

Cowboys, but they committed too many turnovers late in the game.
Reggie Roberts had 20 points, and Alex Childs added 16.
Ben Lomond's best moment: The game was close throughout, and
the Scots were able to make up a 46-41 deficit with 6:33 remaining.
Andy Hopson added 12 points and Dalton Zundel 10.
Statistical notes: Grantsville hit just 15-28 free throws, while Ben
Lomond was 14-19. Roberts had six three-pointers for Grantsville.
What we learned from this game: The Cowboys are out of the
post-season picture, and their last three games won't be easy. A
last-place finish is likely.
Next: Grantsville plays at Logan Feb. 6. Ben Lomond has Morgan at
home the same night.

came back to make it an exciting finish. Jake Roberts added 15
points.
Morgan's best moment: The Trojans led 38-31 at halftime, and still

expect to make the post-season.

quarter to make the game look like a rout. Reggie Roberts added
13 points.
Ogden's best moment: Ogden was still within striking distance
until late in the game, when it had to foul. Favian Izarraras led the
Tigers with 10 points, including three treys.
Statistical notes: Grantsville hit 27-31 free throws. That might be a
record. The win was also the Cowboys' second straight - a first this
season.
What we learned from this game: Gumucio is back after a football
injury forced him to take time off. Grantsville will work him back into
the lineup and he will help. The Cowboys are 1-0, and things might
be looking up.
Next: Grantsville travels to Ben Lomond Jan. 14. Ogden goes to
Logan the same night.

points as Grantsville nailed its free throws down the stretch in the
Cowboys non-region road win at North Sanpete.
Grantsville's best moment: Grantsville led 28-23 at halftime, but

quarter was even because the Cowboys were able to make a lot of
their free throws. Jake Roberts and Cody Colson had 13 points
each.
North Sanpete's best moment: The Hawks rallied behind Alan Byrd
and Nathan Aagard, who led the team in scoring with 15 and 14
points.
Statistical notes: Grantsville was 26-34 from the free-throw line,
while North Sanpete was 11-22.
What we learned from this game: Grantsville is 1-4 at home, but
3-3 on the road going into Region 11 play.

them back into the game. They outscored Grantsville 13-0 in the
third quarter, and 18-9 in the fourth.
Statistical notes: Park City hit eight three-point baskets.
What we learned from this game: The Miners must have figured
something out at halftime. This was a disappointing loss because
Grantsville didn't play with the same intensity in the second half.
Next: Grantsville is off until Dec. 30 when it travels to play North
Sanpete. Park City has a home game against Ben Lomond Dec. 23.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read

Dec. 18 - Delta 68, Grantsville 52
Story of the game: Josh Eliason scored 24 points and Delta built
an early lead and slowly kept extending it in a convincing non-region
victory over Grantsville.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys were never in the game,
and their defense (or lack of it) was probably the reason. Alex
Childs and Cody Colson had 12 points for Grantsville.
Delta's best moment: Eliason was on a roll from the start, and he
got him from teammate Nick Nissen, who scored 18 points. The
Rabbits controlled the game.
Statistical notes: Delta led 32-20 at halftime, and Grantsville felt it
had to score to rally. Instead, both teams scored a lot. The second
half had a lot more offense.
What we learned from this game: Grantsville fell to 2-6 with the
loss, while Delta improved to 3-1. Delta proved in football that it had
some good athletes. The Rabbits will probably be good in
basketball, too.
Next: Grantsville gets back at it, playing host to Park City today (Dec.
19). Delta is done until Jan. 7, when it plays Juab at home.

Story of the game: Alex Childs scored 15 of his game-high 19
points in the second half to help Grantsville rally to beat South
Summit for its second win of the season.
Grantsville's best moment: Childs and Ben Tripp were key
contributors of an 11-0 run midway through the third quarter that
turned a 36-32 deficit into a 43-36 lead. The Cowboys never
relinquished it.
South Summit's best moment: The Wildcats opened the game by
taking a 9-4 lead. The game was tied at 28 at halftime. Dustin Haws
topped South Summit with 19 points.
Statistical notes: South Summit entered the game on a
three-game win streak. The Wildcats hit 11-22 free throws, while
Grantsville was 20-24. Reggie Roberts backed up Childs with 13
points.
What we learned from this game: Ten players scored for
Grantsville, which is still without the injured Austin Gumucio. The
Cowboys are in the middle of playing three games in four nights.

has a home game against Gunnison Friday (Dec. 19).

Dec. 11 - Waterford 52, Grantsville 39
Story of the game: Waterford's 6-10 center, Neal Monson, had a
field day, throwing down 27 points and grabbing nine rebounds as
Waterford stayed unbeaten by beating Grantsville.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys were in this game until
the fourth quarter. They trailed just 37-32 before Waterford began to
pull away. Reggie Roberts led Grantsville with 11.
Waterford's best moment: Monson's big enough to attract a lot of
attention, and still be able to score. Vincent Otiede backed him up
with 12 points. Still, the Ravens' big event was the fourth quarter,
when they outscored Grantsville 15-7.
Statistical notes: Jacob Clonts was Grantsville's outside threat,
canning two three-point baskets. Roberts also had one. The
Cowboys were 12-16 from the free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: Going up against a 6-10 center
is difficult for everyone. This could be a special team for Waterford.
Sure, Grantsville is 1-5, but if it improves enough, at some point it
may have to go up against Monson again.
Next: Grantsville returns home to take on South Summit on
Tuesday (Dec. 16). Waterford takes on Morgan at home the same
night.

Dec. 10 - North Summit 64, Grantsville 50
Story of the game: Colby Richins scored 17 points and his brother,
Caden, had 13 as North Summit jumped to a big lead and whipped
Grantsville in a non-region game.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys trailed 14-2 early, but
scored the next six points to close out the quarter. Grantsville then
started the second period by scoring the first five points. That
narrowed the gap, but the Cowboys were out of gas.
North Summit's best moment: The Braves were bigger, and more
athletic. This game went North Summit's way quickly as they
jumped to a 14-2 advantage. After that, it was a game of spurts, but
the Braves held a 25-point lead at one point.
Statistical notes: The referees let the guys play as few fouls were
called. North Summit led 51-32 at the end of the third quarter. Watch
for this team in the state tournament.
What we learned from this game: This was a good opponent, and
Grantsville should have learned something. Jake Roberts left with a
wrist injury. His status is uncertain.
Next: Grantsville plays at unbeaten Waterford tonight (Dec. 11).
North Summit (2-0) entertains Manti Friday (Dec. 12).

Dec. 5 - Grantsville 56, Union 53
Story of the game: Alex Childs scored 18 points and Cody Colson
added 14 to lead Grantsville past Union and claim its first win of the
basketball season.
Grantsville's best moment: This game was close to the end. The
key was probably the Cowboys' ability to hit free throws. Grantsville
was 17-20 from the line, which is difficult in an opponent's gym.
Union's best moment: Tyler Nelson had 20 points for Union (0-2),
and was the only Cougar scorer in double figures. Nelson had 27 in
Union's first game, which was also a close home loss.
Statistical notes: This was Grantsville's best offensive output of the
season, and moved the Cowboys out of the Region 11 cellar, even
though the region season hasn't started. It was good to see Childs'
big game. He averages 11.2 ppg.
What we learned from this game: This was a great road win, and
get Grantsville used to some other long trips they'll make this
season (Logan, Bear River, etc...).
Next: Grantsville returns home to take on North Summit on Dec. 10.
Union plays host to Carbon on Dec. 9.

Deseret News brief, click here. To read the Salt Lake Tribune box

Dec. 4 - Wasatch 61, Grantsville 51
Story of the game: Mike Brown and McKay Murdoch scored 15
points apiece as Wasatch took an early lead and held on to it in its
non-region home win over Grantsville.
Grantsville's best moment: Jake Roberts had 13 points and Austin
Cunliffe scored 10 for the Cowboys, who scored 33 points in the
first half and could only muster 18 in the second half.
Wasatch's best moment: The Wasps' defense limited Grantsville
to just seven points in the final quarter. They also had a big
free-throw advantage, mostly due to the Cowboys being forced to
foul in the final minutes.
Statistical notes: Wasatch was 18-29 from the free-throw line,
while Grantsville was just 5-7. Brown had three treys for Wasatch.
What we learned from this game: The Cowboys are 0-3 and off to
a similar start as last year.
Next: Grantsville travels to play Union Saturday (Dec. 6). Wasatch
goes to play American Fork Dec. 5.
Links: There was no local media coverage of the game. To read the
Deseret News brief, click here. To read the Salt Lake Tribune box
score, click here.
Dec. 3 - Rowland Hall 63, Grantsville 46
Story of the game: Zach Arthur lit up the Cowboys for 25 points as
Rowland Hall jumped ahead early and claimed an impressive
home-court victory over Grantsville.
Grantsville's best moment: It was probably the third quarter.
Trailing 29-18 at halftime, the Cowboys almost matched that
offensive output but only narrowed the gap by one. Still, it was
progress.
Rowland Hall's best moment: This team knows how to play
basketball. Arthur led the team in scoring last year with 18.4 ppg.
The Winged Lion jumped on Grantsville early, claiming a 14-5
first-quarter lead. This was a great way to start the season.
Statistical notes: Jared Accettura backed up Arthur with 12 points.
Alex Childs had 11 for Grantsville, while Cody Colson and Jake
Roberts had nine each.
What we learned from this game: Grantsville started slowly, and
had to play catch up the rest of the way. That's two 17-point losses
to start the season. The Cowboys need Austin Gumucio.
Next: No rest for Grantsville, which returns home to take on
Wasatch. Rowland Hall travels to Richfield for the weekend to play
in a tournament.

Deseret News brief, click here. To read the Salt Lake Tribune box

Nov. 25 - Tooele 57, Grantsville 40
Story of the game: Tanner Stuart scored 24 points and Tooele
used a 17-2 run in the last 5:52 of the game to hold off Grantsville
and its raucous home crowd in a season-opening rivalry game.
Grantsville's best moment: Reggie Roberts and Jacob Clonts hit
back-to-back three-point baskets to send the crowd into a frenzy as
the gap narrowed to two points. That was as close as the Cowboys
would get.
Tooele's best moment: Tooele led the entire game, but the
Cowboys rallied to within 40-38. At that point, Brock Haskell scored,
and then Matt Trussell put in five straight points to give the
Buffs some breathing room.
Statistical leaders: Boone Baird backed up Stuart had 12 points for
Tooele. Roberts had 14 and Alex Childs 10 for Grantsville, who
played without Austin Gumucio, who was hurt during football
season and has not yet healed.
What we learned from this game: A good win for Tooele, and wins
were rare last year. The Buffs now have four consecutive home
games.
Next: Grantsville has a game at Rowland Hall on Dec. 3. Tooele
returns home to take on Kearns on Dec. 2.
