Nov. 1 - Hurricane 47, Grantsville 14

Story of the game - RBs Gordie Dotson rushed for 127 yards and Zach
Sorensen had 78 as Hurricane shook its own first-half penalty problems
and cruised to victory over Grantsville in the first round of the 3-A playoffs.

Grantsville's best moment - Trailing 14-0 and struggling to get any
offense, Tyson Hutchins intercepted a pass and brought it back to the
Hurricane 5-yard line, where Alex Childs scored two plays later.

Hurricane's best moment - Hurricane led 20-6 at halftime, but scored
on its first drive of the third quarter. Then Gary Bracken intercepted a
pass and returned it for a touchdown to break the game open.

What was learned from the game - The Cowboys are not among 3-A's
elite, but the way they made the playoffs should bring great memories to
their players. Childs had 69 yards on 18 carries, while quarterback
Gareth Anderson had 115 passing yards, but threw four interceptions

Next week - Grantsville is done for the season. Hurricane will play a
home game against
Judge Memorial.

Oct. 28 - Grantsville Wins Tiebreaker

Story of the game - Alex Childs scored on a 3-yard run with less than a
minute remaining to lift Grantsville past Bear River 17-14, culminating
an unlikely run that moved the Cowboys into the 3-A playoffs.

Grantsville's best moment - Forrest Stephenson threw a 46-yard
scoring pass to Tyson Hutchins in the first game, a 13-12 win over Ben
Lomond, that boosted the Cowboys into the title contest with Bear River.
Coach Tony Cloward said the team wanted to play again as quickly as
possible to keep the momentum flowing. It worked.

What was learned from the game - The Cowboys avengeda 31-7 loss
to Bear RIver less than a month ago, and now can ride that thought, and
the momentum, with it into the post-season.

Next week - Grantsville has a long bus ride to play at Hurricane. Ben
Lomond and Bear River are done.

Oct. 24 - Morgan 40, Grantsville 0

Story of the game - Jake Kinsey had 13 carries for 83 yards and four
touchdowns and Dayton Smith rushed nine times 91 yards and a score
as Morgan trounced Grantsville. The Trojans gathered 18 first downs
and 259 yards on the ground offensively.

Grantsville's best moment - Not sure there was one. This was once a
heated rivalry, when both schools were smaller, but this year it appears
Morgan is definitely the better team.

Morgan's best moment - Kinsey scored all three of his touchdowns in
the first half, and Dayton Smith added another as the Trojans took a
28-0 halftime lead. This game was never in doubt, and it confirmed
Morgan as the top seed in Region 11.

What was learned from the game - Grantsville, despite its two wins,
still has a chance for post-season. The Cowboys will battle Ben
Lomond and Bear River for the opportunity to travel to play Hurricane.

Next week - Grantsville will have a play-in game, which will determine
its future. If the Cowboys win, they'll play at Hurricane. If not, their season
is over.

Oct. 15 - Ogden 28, Grantsville 23

Story of the game - Ogden QB Nik Allred rushed for 177 yards and passed for 157 more as the Tigers rallied past Grantsville in a Region
11 game.

Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys led 10-7 at halftime and Alex Childs ran 67 yards for a touchdown to start the third quarter.
Ogden rallied, but Grantsville made a game of it when Benji Cole caught a late scoring pass.

Ogden's best moment - The Tigers' offense came alive in the second half. Allred passed for two touchdowns and ran for another in the
fourth quarter as Ogden extended its lead.

What was learned from the game - Ogden escaped the Region 11 cellar with the win and now can make the 3-A playoffs.

Next week - Grantsville finishes the regular season at Morgan. Ogden plays rival Ben Lomond at home.

Oct. 10 - Grantsville 16, Ben Lomond 13

Story of the game - RB Alex Childs rushed for 132 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Cowboys won their first Region 11 game this
season in their home finale over Ben Lomond.

Grantsville's best moment - Childs' 16-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter put the Cowboys ahead. Forrest Stephenson kicked a 25-
yard field goal in the first quarter, and Childs' first TD gave Grantsville the early lead.

Ben Lomond's best moment - Carson Chadwick passed for one TD and ran for another. Bridger Smith caught Chadwick's TD pass.
Grantsville led 9-7 at halftime.

What was learned from the game - It was Grantsville's first region win, and first win in a month. Riley Boman was the Cowboys' defensive
lead with 13 tackles. The Cowboys finished 2-3 at home.

Next week - Grantsville travels to play Ogden. Ben Lomond returns home to play Logan.

Oct. 3 - Bear River 31, Grantsville 7

Story of the game - Aaron Spencer ran for two touchdowns and QB Hunter Payne connected with WR Dax Sederholm on a 93-yard
scoring pass as Bear River rallied from an early deficit to beat Grantsville in a Region 11 game.

Grantsville's best moment - The Cowboys scored first as Alex Childs ran 9 yards for a touchdown. It was still close - 7-6 Grantsville - at
halftime as the defense came up with several stops. Finally, Bear River broke the game open.

Bear River's best moment - The long pass play seemed to end Grantsville's hopes. Bear River put 19 points on the scoreboard in the
fourth quarter to make the game appear a rout, when it was really pretty close.

What was learned from the game - The Cowboys have just one home game remaining, and it will likely determine who will finish in the
region cellar. Grantsville's offense continues to struggle.

Next week - The Cowboys take on Ben Lomond in their home finale. Bear River returns home to play Ogden.

Sept. 26 - Logan 59, Grantsville 0

Story of the game - Logan QB Jeff Manning celebrated his first Div. 1 scholarship offer by ripping apart the Cowboys. Manning threw for
325 yards and six TDs in just over one half as the Grizzlies won handily.

Grantsville's best moment - Logan pressured Grantsville QB Forrest Stephenson throughout the game. The Cowboys had 146 yards total
offense and Stephenson was sacked four times. Logan is the class of the league and the good news is that this game is out of the way.

Logan's best moment - Kicker Josh Thompson booted a 53-yard field goal, which tied a school record. Manning's scholarship offer came
from Utah State. Logan's offensive and defensive lines dominated.

What was learned from the game - Grantsville was simply outclassed by the defending 3-A champ.  This was the Region 11 opener for
both schools.

Next week - Grantsville returns home to play Bear River. Logan will play Ogden in another home game.

Sept. 19 - Union 37, Grantsville 21

Story of the game - QB Gauge Smith passed for 188 yards and three touchdowns, and Caden Richard rushed for 113 yards and two
scores as Union jumped to a 17-0 lead captured this non-conference game.

Grantsville's best moment - The Grantsville offense came alive in the second half. QB Forrest Stephenson ran for a 22-yard TD and Ky
Fonger returned a punt 70 yards for a score. The Cowboys, though, were too far behind and could not mount a serious rally.

Carbon's best moment - After Grantsville rallied to within 23-15, Smith connected with Rich Fauci and Richard for touchdowns to prevent
the Cowboys from getting too close.

What was learned from the game - It was a tough loss for Grantsville, whose offense had come alive the week before. The Cowboys
simply started too slowly and let the game get away before they could get started.

Next week - Grantsville hits the road to play defending region and state champ Logan. Union has a home game against Park City.

Sept. 12 - Grantsville 61, Carbon 20

Story of the game - The Cowboys had its best game of the season, rolling to 532 yards of total offense and dismantled the winless
Carbon Dinos in a non-region home game.

Grantsville's best moment - Too many to mention. The Cowboys scored more points in the first half (41) than they had all season (30).
QB Forrest Stephenson passed for two scores and ran for another. Reserve QB Bridger Boman ran for two TDs late.

Carbon's best moment - The Dinos trailed 41-13 and the offense didn't score in the second half. Carbon's only score after halftime came
on a 56-yard fumble return by lineman Dallon Wooden.

What was learned from the game - Carbon is 0-4, so the win can't be seen as Grantsville has turned things around. Still, a win is a win
and the Cowboys needed one. Perhaps the confidence gained from the win will help in the near future.

Next week - Grantsville goes to Roosevelt to play Union in a non-region game. Carbon returns home to play Ogden.

Sept. 5 - Delta 24, Grantsville 0

Story of the game - Delta QB Joey Dutson ran for two touchdowns and the Rabbits defense recorded seven sacks in their 24-0 non-
region road win at Grantsville.

Grantsville's best moment - Early in the game, Tyson Hutchins fielded a punt deep in Cowboy territory, reversed field and scampered 40
yards to his own 48. The Cowboys drove to the Delta 41. The drive ended on an interception. On defense, the Cowboys were led by Austin
Gumuchio, who had 16 tackles.

Delta's best moment - The Rabbits' defense controlled the game, holding Grantsville to 15 net yards. Delta also took advantage of several
turnovers. It was Delta's second shutout in three games.

What was learned from the game - Grantsville's Alex Childs was hurt in practice and did not play. Check out coach Cloward's postgame
comment:
“The kids played hard and I’m happy with their effort. This (Delta) is the best defensive team we have seen.”

Next week - The 0-3 Cowboys take on winless Carbon in another non-region game at home. Delta will return home to meet South
Summit.

Aug. 29 - Juan Diego 65, Grantsville 6

Story of the game - Tyler Morales ran for two first-quarter TDs as Juan Diego ran to a 28-0 lead and demolished Grantsville. Tyler Larsen
and Dennis Bauman also returned interceptions for TDs for Juan Diego.

Grantsville's best moment - There were few fine moments for Grantsville, but Forrest Stephenson did run 34 yards for a score late in the
second quarter to give the Cowboys some hope.

Juan Diego's best moment - When you score 65 points, you have to figure there are going to be plenty of good moments. Zach Kinniger
also provided some exciting times with a 2-yard run and a 97-yard kickoff return.

What was learned from the game - Grantsville is 0-2 and has to wonder about its defense, which has given up 95 points so far. The
Cowboys offense had trouble in this game, too, as Stephenson threw four interceptions. Let's see what happens against Delta, following
a good week of practice.

Next week - Grantsville returns home to play Delta in another non-region game. Juan Diego travels to Cyprus.

Aug. 22 - Wasatch 30, Grantsville 24

Story of the game - Wasatch QB Payton Davis engineered a comeback, throwing for 276 yards and three scores as the Wasps took the
tough road win. Grantsville had taken an early 10-0 lead, but went through a dry spell after halftime.

Grantsville's best moment - Taking the lead was a breakthrough, but Forrest Stephenson's 78 yard touchdown pass to Alex Childs in the
second quarter electrified the home crowd.  It also gave the Cowboys the lead again.

Wasatch's best moment - Davis passed for two touchdowns and ran for another in the second half. He and his coaching staff apparently
decided he was the man to take over the show and lead the rally.

What was learned from the game - If the score is any indication, Grantsville is a lot better than last year, when it was whipped twice by the
Wasps. Touchdowns were also rare in 2007, and this year's club showed it can score quickly. For Wasatch, it has found a team leader.

Next week - Grantsville has another home game, playing host to Juan Diego (1-0). Wasatch has to play at Morgan.
