Feb. 28 - Grantsville 48, Morgan 39
Story of the game: Seniors Sammie Jensen scored 13 and Mallory
Oltjenbruns had a season-high 10 as Grantsville pulled away from
Morgan in the fourth quarter and captured third place with this 3A
state tournament victory.
Grantsville's key moment: The Cowboys grabbed a first-quarter
lead, but gave it away and it took until late in the game to finally get
comfortable. Oltjenbruns had two three-pointers, and Grantsville hit
21-30 free throws.
Morgan's key moment: The Trojans trailed 19-10 in the first
quarter, but limited Grantsville to three second-quarter points and
got back into the game. Ashley Garfield had 15 points for Morgan,
including three treys.
Statistical notes: Morgan had five three-pointers in the game.
Oltjenbruns averaged just 2.2 ppg coming into the game. Jensen
finished as the team's leading scorer at 17.2 ppg.
What we learned from this game: Grantsville avenged a loss to
Morgan Feb. 12 and ended the season on a winning note. The
Cowboys showed character bouncing back from the loss to Carbon.
Next: Both teams have completed their seasons.

Feb. 27 - Grantsville 54, Canyon View 33
Story of the game: Kelsi Wells scored 20 points as Grantsville
clobbered Canyon View in a consolation game and got back on the
winning track at the 3A state tournament.
Grantsville's key moment: The Cowboys made a nice run in the
second quarter to expand their lead to 30-15 by halftime. Marisa
Robbins and Sammie Jensen had 10 points each.
Canyon View's key moment: Canyon View never threatened, and
only made one three-pointer, so it never really rallied.
Statistical notes: Grantsville was 8-10 from the free-throw line;
Canyon View was 2-3. Both teams seemed tired after exciting
games the day before.
What we learned from this game: This game didn't have the
excitement of the Carbon contest, but it did set up a good rematch
for third place
Next: Grantsville will play Region 11 rival Morgan on Feb. 28.

Feb. 26 - Carbon 54, Grantsville 44
Story of the game: Julia Potts scored 24 points and Carbon got hot
from three-point land and that was enough to hold off Grantsville in
the 3A state tournament.
Grantsville's key moment: The Cowboys trailed by as many as 13
points, but rallied in the fourth quarter to gain the lead. Sammie
Jensen was Grantsville's top scorer with 19 points.
Carbon's key moment: The Dinos hit eight three-pointers, and that
made up for the loss of leading scorer Patricia Smith, who had foul
trouble. Potts then took over, and made 10 free throws down the
stretch.
Statistical notes: Carbon was 22-25 from the free-throw line for the
game; Grantsville was 14-19. Marisa Robbins had 11 points and
Kelsi Wells 10.
What we learned from this game: The Cowboys fought hard, but
could not overcome Carbon for the second time this year. We'll see
how quickly they can recover in the consolation bracket.
Next: Grantsville plays Canyon View on Feb. 27. Carbon advanced
to take on Wasatch.

Feb. 21 - Grantsville 75, Salem Hills 45
Story of the game: Kelsi Wells scored a season-high 30 points
and Sammie Jensen had 25 as Grantsville had its way with
late-arriving Salem Hills in the first round of the 3A state tournament.
Grantsville's key moment: Salem Hills arrived at the gym seven
minutes after the opening tipoff was scheduled, and Grantsville got
off to an 8-0 start. The Cowboys led throughout, and a 14-0 run to
start the second half put the game away.
Salem Hills' key moment: The Skyhawks won just four games all
season, and this was their first state tourney experience, so they
learned from it. They battled Grantsville evenly in the fourth quarter,
but the game was over by then.
Statistical notes: Jensen's 25 points was also a season high, and
she had 16 rebounds. Salem Hills had three treys, compared to
one for Grantsville.
What we learned from this game: This was the state tourney
opener, and Grantsville took it seriously. The Cowboys were never
threatened.
Next: Grantsville advanced to play nemesis Carbon in the
quarterfinals on Feb. 26.

Feb. 12 - Morgan 50, Grantsville 47
Story of the game: Becca Rees hit a three-pointer with three
seconds left as Morgan ended Grantsville's Region 11 unbeaten
streak with a victory in the final game of the regular season.
Grantsville's key moment: This game was close throughout, and
Morgan had a big crowd to support the team. The Cowboys had a
one-point lead entering the fourth quarter. Sammie Jensen led with
18 points.
Morgan's key moment: The Trojans played a lot better than they did
in Grantsville the previous month. Ashley Garfield led with 13 points,
while Angela Blazzard had 12. All of Rees' nine points came on
three-pointers.
Statistical notes: Kelsi Wells, Marisa Robbins and Jensen each
had two three-pointers. Both teams shot 7-10 from the free-throw
line.
What we learned from this game: The loss was disappointing, but
really doesn't mean much. Morgan finished in second place in
region play.
Next: Grantsville opens the 3A state tourney at home against Salem
Hills on Feb. 21.

rebounds as Grantsville went on the road and clinched the Region
11 title with a convincing win over Bear River.
Grantsville's key moment: The Cowboys took a 20-13 first-quarter
lead and then dominated Bear River after that. Grantsville outscored
the Bears 15-4 in the second period and 16-1 in the third. Rachel
Topham added 13 points.
Bear River's key moment: The closest the Bears came was the
first quarter, and they played evenly with Grantsville in the final
period.
Statistical notes: Despite the big difference in the score, only seven
players scored for Grantsville. The Cowboys were 21-28 from the
free-throw line; Bear River was 3-7. Funny thing ... the game at
Grantsville was a nine-point game.
What we learned from this game: The Cowboys clinched the
Region 11 title and will enter the 3A tournament as a No. 1 seed.
They'll also host a first-round game.
Next: Grantsville finishes the season at Morgan on Feb. 12, but it
won't mean as much now.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt
Lake Tribune.

halftime, but Kelsi Wells started the second half with a three-pointer
and Grantsville went on a 16-4 run to put the game away. Marissa
Robbins had 14 points and Wells added 13.
Logan's best moment: The Grizzlies came in winless in region
play, but played tough in the first half. Ingrid VanZantan had 10
points for Logan, which went seven minutes without a point in the
third quarter.
Statistical notes: Wells and Robbins each had a pair of
three-pointers for Grantsville. Seniors Jensen, Rachel Topham,

Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys controlled this game
from the start, jumping to a 20-5 lead. They did it again in the third
quarter and then let the reserves play. Marissa Robbins added 13
points.
Ben Lomond's best moment: The Scots didn't have a chance,
despite playing Grantsville tough just a few weeks earlier in
Grantsville. Taylor Hughes led Ben Lomond with 12 points.
Statistical notes: Grantsville led 60-21 entering the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys hit four three-pointers, including two by Wells. The
win was the biggest margin of the season.

straight road game and remains in first place with just three games
remaining.
Next: Grantsville plays its final home game of the regular season
Feb. 5 against Logan.

period and the margin stayed the same until the fourth period, when
Grantsville hit its free throws to actually extend the margin. Marissa
Robbins added nine points.
Ogden's best moment: The Tigers had to play "catch up" after the
first quarter. Surprisingly, they didn't make a three-pointer. Kelsie
Lawrence was Ogden's top scorer with 12 points.

key Region 11 game.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys led 17-9 after the first

second half, but they hit 20-25 free throws to keep the lead secure.

halftime, but couldn't generate enough offense to cut much into the
lead. Becca Rees was the Trojans' top scorer with 10 points.

shows which team was more aggressive. Each club had three
treys. Morgan's Angela Blazzard had six points and nine rebounds.

now is in sole possession of first place.

Logan the same night.

Morgan game approaching. It's a win, though, and the Cowboys will
have to be ready when they go to Tremonton on Feb. 10.
Next: Grantsville plays host to co-leader Morgan Jan. 22. Bear River
will take on Logan.

for Grantsville. The Cowboys were 9-19 from the free-throw line;
Salem Hills was 6-10.

the fourth quarters, and Delta kept the game close by controlling the
other two periods. Wells had nine fourth-quarter points and Rachel
Topham scored five of her eight points in that span.
Delta's best moment: Delta controlled the second quarter and had
the momentum going into halftime. The Rabbits fell to 3-3 with the
loss. Shanel Bliss led the Rabbits with 18 points.
Statistical notes: Bliss had four three-pointers for Delta. Burton had

Next: Grantsville returns home to play Emery on Dec. 18. Delta
travels to Uintah the same night.

Story of the game: Kelsi Wells had a season-high 27 points and
Sammie Jensen had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lift Grantsville to
an easy non-region win over Union.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys got an early lead and
then slowly extended it throughout the game. Wells was
Grantsville's outside shooting threat with three treys.
Union's best moment: Grantsville tried to blow out the Cougars
early, but Union rallied, showed composure, and kept the game
close. Katie Richens led Union with 10 points.
Statistical notes: Union connected on just 7-21 free throws.
Grantsville was 17-27. The loss was Union's first this season.
What we learned from this game: Grantsville had no trouble with
these Region 10 foes on its home court. The Cowboys again were
able to empty their bench.
Next: Grantsville travels to play Delta Dec. 16. Union has a home
game against Carbon the same night.

Dec. 11 - Grantsville 55, Uintah 25
Story of the game: Sammie Jensen and Kelsi Wells scored 16
points apiece as Grantsville score the game's first eight points and
rolled to an easy home victory over Uintah.
Grantsville's best moment: This game was never in doubt.
Grantsville led 19-6 after the first quarter and slowly stretched it. The
Cowboys even had an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter.
Uintah's best moment: The Utes were at the wrong place at the
wrong time as Grantsville was coming off consecutive losses. Tripp
led Uintah with 10 points.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot badly from the free-throw line.
Grantsville was 5-13 and Uintah 2-7. Grantsville's defense limited
Uintah to seven points or less each quarter. Jensen led both teams
with 11 rebounds.
What we learned from this game: Grantsville got back to playing
3A schools and fared well. The Cowboys were able to empty their
bench for the first time.
Next: Grantsville takes on Union tonight (Dec. 12) at home. Uintah
travels to Cedar City tonight.

Dec. 4 - Spanish Fork 75, Grantsville 67
Story of the game: Erin Redd scored 20 points, Rachelle Remund
had 16 and Jessie Anderson 15 as Spanish Fork held off
Grantsville in a non-region game.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys had a big rally in the
fourth quarter. Trailing 56-37, Sammie Jensen led a spirited effort
that resulted in 30 points but it wasn't enough to catch the Dons.
Spanish Fork's best moment: Spanish Fork led most of the game.
The Dons had a 33-28 halftime, but exploded in the third quarter to
put the game away.
Statistical notes: Grantsville hit 22-29 free throws, while Spanish
Fork was 18-34. Jensen had 27 points for the Cowboys, while Kelsi
Wells had 17 and Marisa Robbins 13.
What we learned from this game: The 75 points given up was a
season high and Grantsville can't afford to do that and expect to win.
You can bet defense will be preached in practice this week.
Next: Grantsville returns home to take on Uintah on Dec. 11.
Spanish Fork goes to Bingham Dec. 6.

Dec. 2 - Judge Memorial 57, Grantsville 51
Story of the game: Erica Martinez scored 20 points, including three
three-point baskets, as Judge staged a huge rally in the third
quarter and downed Grantsville for its first win.
Grantsville's best moment: Kelsi Wells and Sammie Jensen
helped the Cowboys get off to a strong start - and a seven-point
lead. They hit 5-6 from the free-throw line in the opening quarter, too.
Judge Memorial's best moment: The rally actually started in the
second quarter, but the third quarter was huge, as Judge outscored
the home team 20-5. Martinez had seven points during that time.
Statistical notes: After the first quarter, Grantsville was 11-25 from
the line. Judge finished 10-16, which was enough to allow the
Bulldogs to hold on to the win.
What we learned from this game: This loss had to be
disappointing as Grantsville was hoping it could challenge last
year's 3A runners-up. At least they have an idea how well they can
compete.
Next: Grantsville goes to Spanish Fork on Dec. 4. Judge plays at
Murray on Dec. 5.

Nov. 26 - Grantsville 44, Cottonwood 32
Story of the game: Grantsville picked up where it left off last year,
as Marisa Robbins scored 12 points the Cowboys' easy win in both
team's season opener at Grantsville.
Grantsville's best moment: The Cowboys dominated from the start,
claiming an 8-2 lead in the first quarter and expanded it to 27-11 at
halftime. Grantsville was able to put its reserves in the game in the
second half.
Cottonwood's best moment: The fourth quarter. Down 38-15, the
Colts rallied behind McKenna Tait, who had nine points, and Alyssa
Moreno, who added eight. The Colts knew this would a tough
game as Grantsville came to Cottonwood last year and won.
Statistical notes: Kelsi Wells had 10 points for Grantsville,
including a pair of three-pointers. Both teams did not shoot well, but
that could be just because it was the first game. The Cowboys
made just 3-9 free throws. Cottonwood was 8-13 from the line.
What we learned from this game: Grantsville might be as good as
last year. The jury is still out on the Colts, but losing this game in
the manner they did is not promising.
Next: Grantsville has another home game, taking on Judge
Memorial on Dec. 2. Cottonwood plays at Kearns on Dec. 4.
