Highland's best moment: The Rams got the home crowd going by
outscoring Oly 16-5 in the third period to take a 42-35 advantage. Nate
Fakahafua led three players in double figures with 17 points.

Oly's best moment: The Titans led 27-25 at halftime, but then fell
apart and trailed by seven going into the final period. Brady had a big
night and nailed three treys. Nick Paulos had 12 points and Oly did a
nice job rebounding.

with 16 assists. Hmmmm. Oly had 13 turnovers; Highland had eight.
Will Watkins was credited with six assists. Lew Evans had two
three-pointers for the Rams.

What we learned from this game: This was a winnable game, but
Highland let it get away. It really didn't hurt. The big game is coming
up next at Woods Cross.

Feb. 12 - Highland 63, East 53

Story of the game: Thanks to a rare three-pronged scoring effort from
Sam Orchard, Nate Fakahafua and Lew Evans, Highland outlasted
East in a Region 6 game.

Highland's best moment: The Rams' offense put together one of its

9-13. Evans had a pair of treys for Highland.

Feb. 5 - Highland 63, Stansbury 41

Story of the game: Nate Fakahafua scored 14 points and Marcel
Maez joined two other teammates with 10 pointe each as Highland
bounced Stansbury in a Region 6 game.

Stansbury's best moment: The Stallions really didn't get their offense
going until making a big push in the fourth quarter. By then, however, it
was too late. Taylor Hunt led with 13 points and Brandon Mohler had
nine.

Highland's best moment: The Rams played their game, and had no
trouble building a comfortable lead. Lew Evans and Sam Orchard
joined Maez with 10 points. This was Maez's first varsity game
experience.

Statistical notes: Highland led 30-15 at halftime. Stansbury had two
three-pointers; Highland had three. Ben Johnson had eight points
and played well for the second straight game.

What we learned from this game: The Stallions are getting beaten by
bigger margins now, and likely will finish in the region cellar. The
question is whether they will win a region game this season.

rallied from a first-quarter deficit and dominated rival East in a Region
6 game.

13-6 advantage in the first period. James Christiansen ended up

HIghland was 17-24. Dakota Marsden made both of East's
three-pointers. Evans and Orchard each scored four treys for
Highland.

this win, and it was good to have Fakahafua and Johnson back in the
lineup. Injuries will limit the team this year, but this team can still win
with the players it has available.

Jan. 8 - Bountiful 44, Highland 42

10 points as Bountiful built an early lead and held off a depleted

period, and spent the rest of the game climbing back. Sam Orchard
had 18 points and Charlie Morris had 10.

the perimeter, and that resulted in eight three-point baskets. LaSalle
was pretty much shut down, but Salazar, Nick Williams and Morgan
Ellis did some damage.

Statistical notes: Highland made 15-16 free throws. Salazar, Ellis
and McKay LaSalle had two three-pointers each for Bountiful, which
won two straight games for the first time this season.

What we learned from this game: Tough loss for Highland, which
played without Chris Lloyd (injury), Matt Barker (injury), Nate
Fakahafua and Ben Johnson (suspensions). Also, it's not like
Highland to lose close games.

held a 38-24 lead going into the final period. Jordan Tanner added 16
points, including four three-pointers.

Statistical notes - Highland's Nate Fakahafua and Ben Johnson, as
well as West's Gatete Djuma were suspended for two games for the
fight, which started when Djuma grabbed a rebound and swung his
elbows, which hit Fakahafua. West made 19-24 free throws, while
Highland was 10-14. Both teams made five three-pointers.

What we learned from this game - The game will be remembered for
the brawl. It was a tough loss for Highland, which emphasizes
defense but had no answer for Corbin. The Rams still were able to
put a scare into West with a 27-point effort in the final quarter.

period, but put the game away from the free-throw line, hitting 17-18
charity shots. Alex Fatzinger-Bruce added 11 points and Sam Orchard
had 10.

Murray's best moment: David Collette was Murray's top scorer with
20 points, but the Spartans didn't have enough to rally. Cade Bullough
added eight, and had Murray's only three-point basket.

Statistical notes: Highland was 27-33 from the free-throw line. Murray
was 8-12. Lew Evans had eight points for the Rams, who put up a
season high point total.

the non-region victory.

9-14. Orchard had six rebounds, in addition to his 26 points. The final
score was the same as last year.

What we learned from this game: The Rams won with defense,
which is typical for a Keith West-coached team. They're playing more
like they're capable.

Dec. 16 - Alta 47, Highland 41

Story of the game: Jordan Brown scored 12 points and Landon
Barlow 11 as Alta rallied in the fourth quarter to top Highland in a
non-region matchup.

Highland's best moment: The Rams played their style of game, but
let this one get away. Highland had Alta in foul trouble, and was hitting
its free throws. The Rams' defense was there, but the offense
struggled, scoring just 13 points in the second half.

Alta's best moment: The Hawks trailed most of the game, but got
balanced scoring and picked up their defense late in the game,
outscoring Highland 15-7 over the final eight minutes. Kyle Davis and
Brayden Beckham each had eight points.

Statistical notes: Highland hit a season-high 21-26 from the
free-throw line; Alta was just 6-14. Nate Fakahafua had 15 points and
Sam Orchard 12 for Highland. Alta held the Rams to just nine field
goals.

What we learned from this game: A tough loss for Highland, but the
Rams can't be too discouraged because they made Alta play their
game. This schedule was made to prepare Highland for the region
season, and the Rams are improving with each game.

Dec. 11 - Highland 61, Skyline 44

Story of the game: Sam Orchard scored 25 points and helped
Highland blow the game open in the second quarter, and the Rams
went on to beat rival Skyline in a non-region game.

Highland's best moment: Orchard had a career high, and used his
quickness to drive the lane and get more points. The Rams played
tough defense, too, keyed by Orchard and Nate Fakahafua.

Skyline's best moment: The Eagles were down 14 points by halftime,
and couldn't narrow the gap. Jaden Jackson had 12 points and Mike
Staes added nine. Each had two three-pointers, too, but it wasn't
enough.

Statistical notes: Fakahafua had 10 points. Brian Orr had five points
for the Eagles. Chase Dunford was held to just one. Highland's
61-point effort was a season high.

What we learned from this game: Orchard provided the offense, and
the defense prevented Skyline from getting into a rhythm. This was a
quality win for Highland, and the home crowd loved it.

Dec. 8 - Cottonwood 43, Highland 38

added 11 as Cottonwood shook off a poor free-throw shooting night to
edge Highland in a non-region game.

Highland's best moment - The Rams jumped to a 5-0 lead and held

had foul problems, but got a good performance from Nate Fakahafua,
who had 17 points and 16 rebounds.

Cottonwood's best moment - The Colts trailed 12-8 after the first
quarter, but held Highland scoreless the second period to take a lead
they never relinquished. Rollin Carter and Dooley had nice nights
rebounding.

Statistical notes - Cottonwood was 1-8 from the free-throw line in the
first half, and finished 11-26. The Colts outrebounded Highland
36-31. Glenn hit two treys in the final quarter.

What we learned from this game - The Rams opened the season
with four road games, and this wasn't their best effort. Still, it was a
winnable game.

Dec. 4 - Highland 51, Judge Memorial 48

Story of the game - Nate Fakahafua scored 12 points and Sam
Orchard had 10 as Hillcrest buried Judge with a big third quarter and
then held on to beat the Bulldogs in a non-region game.

Highland's best moment - The Rams trailed 25-19 at halftime, but
came out in the third period with a vengeance, outscoring Judge 20-3
to take a 39-28 lead.  Matt Barker had nine points for Highland.

Judge's best moment - The Bulldogs made a nice rally in the fourth
quarter. Zach Myaer and Will Whitt each had 15 points, and Whitt
added 11 rebounds. Myaer and Basil Vetas also had three steals.

Statistical notes - Highland hit 14-25 free throws, while Judge was
an amazing 11-11. That almost made the difference in this game.
Vetas had nine points and three rebounds.

What we learned from this game - These two teams always seem to
battle to the end. The third quarter made the difference. Highland
dominated that eight-minute period, and then hung on for the win.

Story of the game - Sam Orchard scored 18 points as Highland held
off Cyprus, thanks to a big second quarter, in a non-region game.

but outscored Cyprus 14-5 to take a lead they never relinquished. Ben
Johnson added nine points and Nate Fakahafua added eight.

Cyprus' best moment - Marquis Newman and Landon Stauffer each
had 12 points for Cyprus in this defensive-minded game. Stauffer was
the Pirates' outside scoring threat with two three-pointers.

Statistical notes - Cyprus was 10-20 from the free-throw line, so the
Pirates left a few points off the scoreboard. Highland had just one
three-point basket.

What we learned from this game - The Rams won this in their
traditional, slow-paced game. Cyprus, once again, played tough but
lost another close contest.

night, scoring 24 points, as Viewmont rallied from an early deficit to
beat Highland in a non-region game.

Highland's best moment - The Rams took a 13-8 lead in the first
quarter, and were only down two at halftime. Sam Orchard was the top
scorer with 18 points. Highland also had a nice rally in the final
quarter, but it wasn't enough.

Viewmont's best moment - The Vikings took the lead in the second
quarter, and Sennett Fraughton backed up Wilkinson with 16 points,
including the team's only three-pointers. Cole Jones added 10 points.

line, hitting 26-38 free throws. Highland was 12-18. Lew Evans and
Chris Lloyd had three-pointers for the Rams.

What we learned from this game - This was the season opener for
Highland, and the Rams simply gave up too many points. Highland is
a defensive-oriented team. By comparison, the Rams only gave up 62
points in two games last year.
