Story of the game: Kyle Collinsworth scored 12 of his 17 points in
the second half as Provo rallied to beat a determined Highland team
in the quarterfinals of the 4A state tournament.

Highland's key moment: The Rams led for most of the first three
quarters. Highland used its patient offense and suffocating defense
to frustrated Provo, but couldn't keep up in the final period. Nate
Fakahafua had a great game off the bench, leading the Rams with 14
points. Spenser Bowen had 10.

Provo's key moment: The Bulldogs have won 39 straight games, but
were worried in this one. Collinsworth, Brandon Davies and Andy
Isom contributed to Provo's comeback. Davies had nine points, while
Isom played great defense.

Statistical notes: This was Highland's first game against a Utah
County school. Fakahafua had seven points in the second quarter as
Highland led 17-14. Highland held Provo to just three points in the
first quarter.

What we learned from this game: The Rams had the fans on their
toes most of the game, hoping for what would have been the biggest
upset of the tournament.

Next: Highland finished the season with a 16-7 record. Provo
advanced to play Bountiful in a 4A semifinal.

and outrebounded Woods Cross 41-27. They also had their outside
shots working. Bowen had four of Highland's seven three-point
baskets. Walker Jensen had 11 points and Taylor  Brightwell nine.

Woods Cross' key moment: The Wildcats had trouble with
Highland's defense, and totaled just 12 points in the middle two
quarters. Tyler Stahle had 21 points for Woods Cross.

Statistical notes: Highland was 23-31 from the free-throw line;
Woods Cross was 4-8. Latu Heimuli had a game-high 10 rebounds
for Highland. Woods Cross shot 35 percent.

What we learned from this game: Highland played well, and looked
impressive in its opening-round win. The victory was also its sixth
straight.

finished 8-1 at home, 1-2 on neutral sites and 6-3 on the road.
Highland was 18-27 from the free-throw line; East was 14-17.

match up well with whomever it plays at state.

joined Spenser Bowen for scoring honors as Highland moved into
second place in Region 6 with a thrilling home win over West.

Highland's best moment: Heimuli was a force inside, and had his
best game of the season. His play also opened the perimeter and
Highland buried seven three-pointers. Nate Fakahafua added 11
points.

West's best moment: The Panthers took a 14-10 lead in the first
quarter, and it was close the rest of the way. West had balanced
scoring, led by Chris Barnes with 18 points. Daniel Wray had 12
points and Tyrell Corbin 11.

Statistical notes: Barnes had all four of West's three-point baskets.
West was 13-18 from the free-throw line; Highland was 15-26.

outscored Cottonwood 17-5 to take a halftime lead. Bowen had four
three-pointers for Highland.

Statistical notes: Cottonwood hit 22-26 free throws, while Highland
was just 13-23. Jake Nelson had 10 points for the Colts, including
two three-pointers.

What we learned from this game: Highland moved into a tie for
second place with the win. The Rams captured the season series
with Cottonwood, winning both games in the final seconds.

to
Granger the same night.

Feb. 13 - Highland 57, Granger 34

quarter, and advanced the margin to 29-7 at halftime. Nick Orchard

home-court advantage.

Feb. 10 - Highland 58, Murray 45

Story of the game: Spenser Bowen scored 15 points as Highland
jumped to a big first-quarter lead and held off Murray in a Region 6
contest.

Highland's best moment: The Rams led 20-5 after the first quarter,
and had the home crowd excited. Bowen and Taylor Brightwell, who
had 10 points, had their shooting eye back and that made a big
difference.

Murray's best moment: The Spartans rallied as Markus Duran
scored 22 points. Murray came within five points, but seemed to run
out of gas. John Hunt added 10 points, but the team's point total was
a season low.

Statistical notes: Highland won the season series, which could be a
big deal if the teams end up tied in the standings. Bowen had three
treys, and Brightwell two. This was their best shooting night in a
while.

What we learned from this game: Highland now has a two-game
lead for third place, with four to play. This was a big win.

Story of the game: Connor Brady led a balanced scoring effort with
14 points as Olympus took a big lead and held off Highland in a key
Region 6 game.

Highland's best moment: The Rams trailed by as many as 17 points
(33-16), but rallied in the third period and eventually tied the game,
41-41. Taylor Janoe had a season-high 12 points and Jordan
Crayton added 11.

Oly's best moment: Brady, Corbin Green and Spencer Hille got Oly
off to a good start (a 12-2 first-quarter lead). Highland rallied in the
third period, but the Titans hit enough free throws at the end to take
the win.

Statistical notes: Oly was 24-35 from the free-throw line, which was
more than double Highland's effort (11-16). Both teams had four
three-pointers, which means Highland guarded the perimeter better.

What we learned from this game: Highland fans questioned the
officiating here, and the free-throw differential seems to support that.
Highland now has just a one-game lead on fourth-place Murray.

Next: Highland has Murray at home on Feb. 10. Olympus goes to
Granger the same night.

but outscored Cyprus 15-3 in the second period and never trailed
again. Highland found its offense in the second half.

and kept them in the game. Weston Warr had nine points, including
two three-pointers.

three by Bowen. Cyprus made just seven baskets all night. Highland
was 14-21 from the free-throw line; Cyprus was 14-23.

6-2 region record. The Rams have a chance to make a real
difference in the Region 6 race.

home the same night.

Jan. 27 - Highland 53, East 46

Story of the game: Walker Jensen led a balanced scoring attack with
10 points as Highland pulled away from East in the third quarter and
beat its Salt Lake rival in a Region 6 game.

Highland's best moment: The Rams led 27-19 at halftime, but
outscored East 15-8 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead.
Jensen provided a nice effort off the bench, and gave Highland
another outside scoring threat.

East's best moment: The Leopards trailed the entire game and
Christian Brown and Jeff Vargas were the team's only real scoring
threats. Brown had 16 points and Vargas 11.

Statistical notes: Jordan Crayton had nine points for Highland, while
Spenser Bowen and Latu Heimuli added eight. Four different Ram
players hit three-pointers and 10 players scored.

What we learned from this game: Jensen has become the team's
inspiration and Highland might be playing its best basketball now.
There's no clear scorer, but the team showed good depth.

Granger the same night.

Jan. 23 - West 58, Highland 54

Story of the game: Tyrell Corbin scored 16 points and West took
advantage of a big foul differential to claim a key Region 6 win on its
home court over Highland.

Highland's best moment: The Rams had been getting good outside
shooting recently, but not on this night. Nate Fakahafua had a
season-high 22 points and Walker Jensen added 12, including a
pair of three-pointers.

West's best moment: The Panthers led most of the game, but it was
close until the end. West had the better perimeter game. Ricardo
Saldana added 13 points and Daniel Wray had 10.

Statistical notes: Highland's usual outside threats - Spenser Bowen
and Taylor Brightwell - had two points each. West hit 19-28 free
throws, compared to just 5-9 for Highland. Jordan Tanner has come
on recently for West; he had nine points, including two three-pointers.

What we learned from this game: Highland drops to third place in
the region. More importantly, it's been apparent lately that Bowen, and
especially Brightwell, have been inconsistent and Jensen has not.
Let's see if it results in more playing time for Jensen.

Next: Highland returns home to take on East on Jan. 27.  West
travels to
Granger the same night.

Jan. 20 - Highland 48, Cottonwood 46

Story of the game: Spenser Bowen did it again, racking up 17 points,
including the go-ahead basket with 39 seconds left as Highland
rallied to beat Cottonwood in a Region 6 game.

Highland's best moment: The Rams trailed most of the game, but
picked up its defense in the fourth quarter. Bowen and Walker
Jensen, who had yet another season-high (14 points), pulled
Highland back into the game with their outside shooting.

Cottonwood's best moment: The Colts got contributions from
almost everyone who played. Tyson Reynolds led Cottonwood with
11 points. The Colts had a chance to win late, but turned the ball over.

Statistical notes: The game was a three-point fest: Cottonwood had
eight treys, and Highland had seven. The Colts played well
considering the game was played at Highland's preferred pace.

What we learned from this game: Highland improved to 4-1 and this
was their second region victory that came down to the end. The
Rams are in good position to secure a state tournament berth.

Next: Highland plays at West Jan. 23. Cottonwood has Granger at
home the same night.

Story of the game: Spenser Bowen had the hot hand for the second
straight game, racking up 21 points as Highland turned back
Granger in a Region 6 game.

Woul Koyom was more of a threat offensively, tying teammate T.J.
Tapusoa for scoring honors with 14 points each.

the final period. The Rams had seven three-pointers. Tre Musgrow

Jan. 13 - Highland 58, Murray 48

Story of the game: The outside-inside combination of Spenser
Bowen and Latu Heimuli made a huge difference as Highland rallied
to beat Murray in a Region 6 game.

Highland's best moment: Bowen scored 20 points, including four
three-pointers, which was the best scoring performance of any Ram
this season. The Rams trailed 18-11 after the first quarter, but slowly
crept back and then pulled away late in the game.

Murray's best moment: The Spartans shot their way to a good
first-quarter lead, but it melted away after that. Markus Duran had 20
points and Ken Masic 15, but John Hunt was held to four.

Statistical notes: This was Highland's best scoring effort - as a team
- this season. It was also Murray's worst, so the Rams were able to
slow the tempo and play their game. Heimuli's 15 points was a
season high.

What we learned from this game: This was a big win for Highland,
and it sends Murray down to the bottom of the standings. It was good
to see Highland hit some shots after what happened in the Oly game.

Next: Highland travels to play Granger on Friday (Jan. 16). Murray
plays at
East the same night.

apiece as Olympus took advantage of Highland's cold shooting to
score a Region 6 win in a physical game.

Highland's best moment: The Rams couldn't shoot, but they
rebounded well. Highland had a 35-23 advantage on the boards. The
Rams made a nice rally to cut the lead to six points in the third
quarter, but couldn't get closer. Latu Heimuli had nine points and 13
rebounds.

Oly's best moment: The Titans led 14-12 after the first quarter, but
stretched it to 10 points at halftime. Oly shot primarily from three-point
range, where it was 9-16 for the game. Watkins was 3-3 from
three-point land.

Statistical notes: Oly shot 12-28 from the field (42.8%), while
Highland was 14-50 (28.0%). Worse, the Rams were 2-18 from
three-point range. Green, who was saddled with foul problems, was
10-13 from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: Highland simply couldn't score.
Spenser Bowen and Taylor Brightwell are the three-point shooters,
and they were a combined 2-11.

to send the game to OT. Sanchez led Cyprus with 13 points, while
Newman had 10.

Statistical notes: Highland's defense controlled the game until the
fourth quarter. The Rams led just 13-10 at halftime. Highland hit just
4-9 free throws, which helped the Cyprus rally.

What we learned from this game: This was a big win for Highland
because the Rams could have easily lost.

Torrey Pines, Calif.

held Merrill West to just 13 total points in the second half. Jordan

Dec. 18 - Highland 55, Hillcrest 43

Story of the game: Taylor Brightwell had a season-high 19 points,
including five three-points baskets, as Highland did something it
hasn't done all season - with with offense - and beat Hillcrest.

Highland's best moment: In a game between teams with two fine
defenses, Brightwell was the difference. The Rams outscored
Hillcrest 35-22 in the second half. Hillcrest couldn't keep up.

Hillcrest's best moment: Kyle Maughan had 22 points for Hillcrest.
He kept the Huskies in the game in the first half. Hillcrest led 21-20 at

Dec. 12 - Highland 39, Viewmont 32

Story of the game: Latu Heimuli scored 11 points and Spenser
Bowen had nine as Highland did it again - holding an opponent to a
season low - and beat Viewmont in a non-region game.

Highland's best moment: The Rams play defense. It was especially
noticeable in the second quarter when Viewmont got just three points
and barely made double figures. Highland led 22-10 at halftime.

Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings had just 14 points going into
the fourth quarter, then got their offense going. Viewmont hit four
three-point baskets, and made the score look respectable.

Statistical notes: This was a defensive battle, so points are not
impressive. Highland shot just 8-16 free throws, which helped
Viewmont's rally. The Rams give up just 36.0 points per game, best
in 4A.

What we learned from this game: After three games, Highland's
defense has been consistent and it will keep the Rams in games, no
matter the opponent. At some point, however, the offense will need to
come alive.

Next: Highland travels to play Hillcrest Thursday (Dec. 18). Winless
Viewmont (0-3) goes to American Fork on Tuesday.

Dec. 9 - Highland 46, Judge Memorial 38

Story of the game: Taylor Brightwell led Highland's outside shooting
attack, scoring 14 points, as the Rams took an early lead and held off
Judge Memorial for their first win of the season.

Highland's best moment: While the Rams were hitting their outside
shots, their defense frustrated Judge the entire game. Highland held
Judge to its lowest scoring output this season.

Judge's best moment: The Bulldogs weren't able to cut loose until
the fourth quarter, when they put up 16 points. Dee Crandall led
Judge with 11 points. Stallon Saldivar had 10.

Statistical notes: Highland hit 14-19 free throws, taking advantage of
every point. Through two games, the Rams easily lead 4A in scoring
defense.

What we learned from this game: Highland has their own style of
play and it keeps it in every game. This was a good one. The Rams
lost at Judge last year.

Next: Highland plays host to Viewmont on Friday (Dec. 12). Judge
returns home to take on Ben Lomond today (Dec. 10).

Dec. 5 - Skyline 38, Highland 29

Story of the game: Kevin Wagstaff scored 18 points as Skyline put
together a fourth-quarter rally to beat Highland in a defensive-minded
game.

Highland's best moment: James Angstman led the Rams with eight
points, while Walker Jensen had seven. Highland started slowly,
scoring just three points in the first quarter. But the Rams recovered,
had a big second quarter and claimed the halftime lead.

Skyline's best moment: Skyline trailed 25-22 entering the final
quarter, but dominated the final eight minutes. Ryan Osterloh backed
up Wagstaff with 10 points.

Statistical notes: The Eagles had a big free-throw advantage, hitting
11-21 shots, compared to 3-6 for Highland. Spenser Bowen was
Highland's best outside threat, canning two treys.

What we learned from this game: It was Highland's first game. Even
though they have had two weeks to practice, the Rams were still rusty.

Next: Highland will play its home opener Dec. 9 against Judge
Memorial. Skyline goes to Cottonwood the same night.
