Oct. 24 - Hillcrest 30, Taylorsville 0

Story of the game - Hillcrest QB Kolby Koplin threw four touchdown
passes and the Huskies' defense played their best game of the
season, recording their first shutout, as Hillcrest claimed their first
Region 2 win.

Hillcrest's best moment - Whenever you win a game, the best part is
when you realize you have won. For Hillcrest, this game wasn't in
doubt. However, Matt Augustyn's 80-yard interception return late in the
game had to have the sidelines cheering.

Taylorsville's best moment - It has been a tough season for the
Warriors, but there has been some progress. Actual game info from
this game was limited.

What we learned from this game - Hillcrest took some big steps
toward respectability. In this region, it will need a lot more. Still, the
Huskes were within one victory of making the playoffs and you couldn't
ask for a better way to end the season.

Next: Both teams have completed their seasons.

information available.

Oct. 15 - Brighton 31, Hillcrest 14

Story of the game - Senior RB A.J. Allen rushed for 62 yards, but
scored three touchdowns as Brighton clinched a playoff spot with only
its second win of the season - beating Hillcrest in a Region 2 game.

Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies never quit. They may be
winless in region, but they battle. Hillcrest picked up a TD just before
halftime and another on the first drive of the third quarter. If not for
Heimuli's great play, this game could have ended up differently.

Brighton's best moment - QB Jace Felix scored on a short run and
Allen added a pair of touchdowns in the first half as Brighton built a
21-0 lead. Hillcrest rallied, and seemed ready to tie the game but DL
Ricky Heimuli sacked the QB to end the drive.

What we learned from this game - Hillcrest is still rebuilding and has
lost seven straight. The Huskies are out of the playoff picture and
must beat Taylorsville next or end up in the Region 2 cellar.

Next: Hillcrest finishes up against Taylorsville. Brighton returns home
to take on
Skyline.

Oct. 10 - Alta 38, Hillcrest 10

Story of the game - Ammon Olsen passed for two touchdowns and
RB Alex Rivas ran for two as the Hawks jumped to a 31-0 halftime
lead and whipped Hillcrest in their homecoming game.

Hillcrest's best moment - Information is limited about this game, and
the Huskies' scoring was not available.

Alta's best moment - This game was never in doubt. The Hawks
scored the first three times they had the ball, and Ryan Lee
intercepted a pass and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown.

What we learned from this game - This was Hillcrest's sixth straight
loss. However, the last two games are at least winnable and it's still
possible for the Huskies to make the postseason.

Next: Hillcrest returns home to take on Brighton. Alta plays host to
Taylorsville.

HILLCREST FOOTBALL - 2008
Oct. 3 - Skyline 41, Hillcrest 7

Story of the game - RB Algernon Brown ran for 169 yards and QB Kevin Wagstaff threw three times, but two went for touchdowns, as
Skyline took advantage of Hillcrest's injury problems to claim an easy Region 2 win.

Hillcrest's best moment - Anthony Biven put forth a gutsy effort, taking most of the rushes and spending a large portion of the night at
quarterback. Aaron Colborn, filling in for the injured Kolby Koplin, threw a third-quarter TD to Colby Brklacich for Hillcrest's only points.

Skyline's best moment - After missing last week's game due to injury, Brown seems to be back at full strength. He said, "I didn't even feel
the (injured) knee tonight. We still have a little sting from Alta, and we're going to take that out on Taylorsville  next week.
"

What we learned from this game - It was the fifth straight loss for Hillcrest. The Huskies have limited depth and can't afford to lose players
to injury. The last two games of the season will likely be great ones to watch.

Next:   Hillcrest hits the road to take on Alta. Skyline plays at Taylorsville.

Sept. 26 - Jordan 49, Hillcrest 14

Story of the game - Ty Spillman and Cory Hunt scored two touchdowns each as Jordan jumped to a huge lead and captured a lopsided
win over Hillcrest in each team's Region 2 opener.

Hillcrest's best moment - Anthony Biven and Kolby Koplin had touchdowns for Hillcrest when the game was out of reach. This might be
the first game this season where the Huskies didn't show signs of improvement.

Jordan's best moment - The Beetdiggers are known for their offense, and it all came together against Hillcrest. The win was their second
straight, and the offense had its best output of the season. QB Alex Hart had three more TD passes.

What we learned from this game - Region 2 has three good teams, and three that might not be so good. Hillcrest is still rebuilding and
it's learning it's not among the elite. The good news is that the schedule allows the team the chance to improve before it plays its
"winnable" games.

Next - Hillcrest has another home game - taking on Skyline. Jordan returns home to play Taylorsville.

Sept. 19 - West Jordan 20, Hillcrest 17 (OT)

Story of the game - QB Jace Rogers hit Tyson Udy on an 8-yard TD pass in overtime to lift the Jaguars to 20-17 comeback victory over
Hillcrest, and ruin the Huskies' homecoming.

Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies came out the locker room in their "retro" black jerseys and that, combined with homecoming, lifted
their spirits. QB Kolby Koplin led Hillcrest to two first-half TD drives and a 14-7 lead at intermission. Kicker Jeffery Brown added a 38-yard
FG in OT, but it wasn't enough.

West Jordan's best moment - The Jags were not their usual selves and got several breaks that kept them in the game. Trailing 14-7 in
the fourth quarter, Damien Maestes had a couple of big runs and Koplin hit D.T. Tialavea on a long fourth-down pass that led to a TD. The
Jags also converted a fourth-down play on their OT drive.

What was learned from the game - Momentum and play a big role, and this became a winnable game for Hillcrest. You can't take the
Huskies lightly. Also, when WJ needs a big play, Tialavea or Udy is almost always involved. Other teams know it, but they still have
produced.

Next week - Both teams start region play. Hillcrest takes on Jordan at home. West Jordan travels to play Bingham.

Sept. 12 - Riverton 49, Hillcrest 14

Story of the game - RB Zach Spencer scored three times on long runs - 75, 61 and 79 yards - as Riverton rallied from an early deficit to
handily defeat Hillcrest in a non-region game at the Huskies' home field.

Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies scored first on a 17-yard pass from QB Kolby Koplin to WR Kyle Maughan. The two also connected
again on Hillcrest's other touchdown. In-between, the game belonged to the Silverwolves.

Riverton's best moment - It was the Zach Spencer show, but Daniel Hoffman also scored twice and the Silverwolves' defense put the
clamps on Hillcrest for most of the game. After last week's loss, Riverton is back on track.

What was learned from the game - The Huskies are back at .500 after two disappointing losses. The defense has given up 82 points in
the two defeats. The schedule doesn't get easier, so Hillcrest needs a big spark or its looking at several consective losses, even with a
favorable home schedule.

Next week - Hillcrest has another home game, taking on unbeaten road warrior West Jordan. Riverton plays at Jordan.

Sept. 5 - Copper Hills 33, Hillcrest 10

Story of the game - Josh Soter passed for three TDs and ran for another and the Copper Hills defense held Hillcrest to 90 yards of total
offense en route to another convincing non-region win.

Hillcrest's best moment - In the second quarter, Anthony Biven returned a kickoff 56 yards and that led to a QB sneak by Kolby Koplin. That
gave the Huskies some brief momentum. Their only other score was a 25-yard field goal by Jeffery Brown.

Copper Hills' best moment - The offense was impressive, but this was another great game by the Grizzlies' defense, which is giving up an
average of just 9.3 ppg. Clint Jex led the way with four more sacks. On offense, Soter was 22 of 38 for 284 yards.

What was learned from the game - Nobody expected Hillcrest to finish the season unbeaten, so the Huskies shouldn't be too dejected
with the loss. The Huskies now start the best part of their season, with four straight home games.

Next week - Hillcrest returns home to play Riverton in another non-region game. Copper Hills will take on Pleasant Grove.

Aug. 29 - Hillcrest 19, Murray 14

Story of the game - Hillcrest QB Kolby Koplin hit Bridger Dallimore on a fourth-down play that resulted in a late touchdown as Hillcrest
edged Murray in a non-region game. Koplin's 11-yard TD run was the winning score.

Hillcrest's best moment - Murray took a one-point lead with 3:51 left. Hillcrest faced 4th-and-19 when Koplin found Dallimore on a 30-yard
pass. Koplin then hit Coby Brklacich, Kyle Maughan and Dallimore (again) to set up the winning score - and a 2-0 record.

Murray's best moment - Dee Hamala had a 99-yard kickoff return for the Spartans. The offense struggled most of the game, and only
scored on a 7-yard run by Jud Sacco.

What was learned from the game - Hillcrest is 2-0, which means the Huskes have already won as many games as last year. Koplin hit
14 of 24 passes for 145 yards. RB Anthony Biven had 135 yards on 16 carries, and a TD in the game, too.

Next week - Hillcrest travels to take on Copper Hills in another non-region game. Murray will play at Taylorsville.

Aug. 22 - Hillcrest 31, Olympus 20

Story of the game - Hillcrest QB Kolby Koplin rushed for 103 yards and the Huskies' defense, in particular Colby Brklacich, caused all
kinds of problems defensively in the season-opening win. Hillcrest rallied from a 14-0 deficit.

Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies shook off the early deficit, which couldn't have been easy after what happened to their team last
year. They were dominating after that. Brklacich led the defense with four sacks by himself.

Oly's best moment - The first four minutes. The Titans took the opening kickoff and scored. Then, they stuffed Hillcrest's fake punt attempt
and took over deep in Huskies' territory. It was 14-0 before some people even found their seats.

What was learned from the game - Hillcrest plays in a tough region, and nobody expects the Huskies to be competitive, but it's possible
they might be a lot better than people think. It can't be easy to right a ship only one season after a disaster. We'll have to wait and see.

Next week - Hillcrest has its home opener against neighbor Murray.  Olympus plays at Payson.
