Feb. 18 - Brighton 74, Hillcrest 27
Story of the game: Kylie Hirschi led the way with 17 points as
Brighton blew out Hillcrest and headed into the 5A state tournament
with a nine-game winning streak.
Brighton's best moment: This game was never in doubt. The
Bengals took a 21-8 first-quarter lead and extended it to 37-12 at
halftime. Reserves filled the game after that. Katie Tominaga added
12 points and Calli Stowell 11.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies played out their season and
suffered their worst loss of the year. Lexi Amundsen had 10 points
for Hillcrest.
Statistical notes: Hillcrest shot just 6-19 from the free-throw line.
Brighton wasn't much better at 14-30. The Bengals had four
three-pointers, led by Stowell with two.
What we learned from this game: Hillcrest didn't come ready to
play, and it showed. The Huskies don't have the talent to match up
with opponents like Brighton unless they give a good effort.
Next: Hillcrest is done for the year. Brighton advances to the 5A
state tourney.

Feb. 13 - Alta 67, Hillcrest 50
Story of the game: Becca Beaudoin scored 21 points and Alta took
advantage of a huge difference in fouls to whip Hillcrest in a Region
2 game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies put together a nice rally in
the fourth quarter, outscoring Alta's reserves 19-7 to make the score
closer than it could have been.
Alta's best moment: The Hawks led just 14-12 after the first
quarter, but put the game away with two dominating quarters. Alta
outscored Hillcrest 22-6 in the second period and just kept going,
eventually leading by 30 points. Erin Foster had 17 points and
McKenzie Morrison 16.
Statistical notes: Alta hit 23-42 free throws, while Hillcrest was
9-17. Beaudoin had five three-pointers for the Hawks.
What we learned from this game: Hillcrest finishes its schedule
with two road games, and is a heavy underdog in both.
Next: Hillcrest goes to Brighton on Feb. 18 to end its season. Alta
travels to Skyline the same night.

Feb. 11 - Taylorsville 60, Hillcrest 38
Story of the game: Saane Lo'amanu scored 22 points and Siu
Lo'amanu added 16 as Taylorsville rolled past Hillcrest in a Region
2 game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies weren't ever in this game.
Lexi Amundsen was the only player in double figures with 10 points.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors led 28-16 at halftime,
and withstood a Hillcrest rally in the third quarter. In the final period,
Taylorsville just piled it on. Athena Mauga had 11 points.
Statistical notes: Taylorsville had two three-point baskets; Hillcrest
had none. Saane Lo'amanu added seven rebounds, six steals and
two blocked shots.
What we learned from this game: The loss ended Hillcrest's
hopes for post-season. Tonight was the team's final home game.
Next: Hillcrest goes to Alta on Feb. 13. Taylorsville is at Skyline the
same night.

Feb. 6 - Hillcrest 58, Jordan 48
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored a season-high 35 points
as Hillcrest held off Jordan in a Region 2 contest.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies led the entire game, taking a
16-7 first-quarter advantage. Amundsen was 9-10 from the
free-throw line, and Hillcrest actually extended the lead in the fourth
quarter.
Jordan's best moment: After trailing early, Jordan actually cut into
the lead in the second and third quarters. Steph Burt had 14 points
for the Beetdiggers, while Bree Scuderi had 10.
Statistical notes: Hillcrest scored 23 points in the fourth quarter.
Amundsen played a big part in the Huskies' 16-23 effort at the
free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: Hillcrest swept the season
series, but hasn't beaten anyone else.
Next: Hillcrest returns home to take on Taylorsville Feb. 11. Jordan
plays host to Skyline the same night.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Feb. 4 - Skyline 78, Hillcrest 32
Story of the game: Katie Walker led a balanced scoring effort with
19 points as Skyline blew out Hillcrest and claimed the easy win in
a Region 2 game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies were never in the game, and
had only seven baskets. Lexi Amundsen and Linda Shober were
the top scorers with 11 points.
Skyline's best moment: The Eagles jumped on Hillcrest early,
earning a 15-1 first-quarter lead, and then just expanded it. Hannah
Bezdjian added 16 points and Miquelle Askew had 13.
Statistical notes: Skyline blew out Hillcrest both times the teams
played. Both teams shot about 60 percent from the free-throw line.
Nine different players scored for Skyline. Walker had two
three-pointers for Skyline.
What we learned from this game: The Eagles and Huskies must
just not match up well because these games were both the biggest
routs of the season in Region 2.
Next: Hillcrest plays host to Taylorsville on Feb. 6. Skyline takes on
Brighton at home the same night.

Jan. 30 - Brighton 66, Hillcrest 42
Story of the game: Kylie Hirschi scored a season-high 20 points as
Brighton's offense dominated, jumping to a big lead early and
taking care of Hillcrest in a Region 2 game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies got off to slow starts in the
first and third quarters, but played well outside of that. Hillcrest also
had trouble with its three-point shooting. Lexi Amundsen led with 15
points.
Brighton's best moment: The Bengals led 18-6 after the first
quarter. After Hillcrest rallied, Brighton did it again in the third period
and put the game away. Katie Tominaga added 16 points for
Brighton.
Statistical notes: Hillcrest gave up 60+ points for the second
straight game. Both teams shot about 50 percent from the
free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: After a good preseason,
Hillcrest has lost four of five region games and probably will miss
post-season play. The Huskies' role now is "spoiler."
Next: Hillcrest goes to Skyline on Feb. 4. Brighton plays host to
Taylorsville the same night.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 23 - Alta 72, Hillcrest 46
Story of the game: McKenzie Morrison scored 25 points and Alta's
shooters poured it on from the perimeter as the Hawks whipped
Hillcrest in a Region 2 game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies had a tough time making
shots, and got a lot of their points from the free-throw line, where
they were 20-32. Lexi Amundsen was the top scorer with 18 points.
Alta's best moment: While Morrison was scoring from the inside,
the Hawks nailed seven three-pointers and just kept building their
lead. Alta led by 22 going into the final quarter and Hillcrest couldn't
stop it.
Statistical notes: The 72 points was the most Hillcrest has given
up since its season opener. Erin Foster added 11 points for Alta,
while Becca Beaudoin had 10. Hillcrest did not have a three-pointer.
What we learned from this game: Two weeks ago, Hillcrest
entered region play with the best record of all Region 2 teams.
They've faltered since. They have to be ready to play for all the
games.
Next: Hillcrest goes to Brighton on Jan. 30. Alta plays host to
Skyline the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Jan. 21 - Taylorsville 41, Hillcrest 26
Story of the game: Taylorsville's freshmen put on a show as
Whitney Mitchell scored 15 points and Siu Lo'amanu added 11 in
the Warriors' decisive Region 2 win over Hillcrest.
Hillcrest's best moment: Once again, Hillcrest's offense was
ineffective. The Huskies were held to single digits in every quarter
but the fourth. Lexi Amundsen led with 10 points.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors' defense had several
steals - Mitchell had three and Lo'amanu five by themselves - and
they roared to an early lead. It was 32-15 going into the final quarter.
Statistical notes: Hillcrest had just five field goals - and no
three-pointers - in the game. The Huskies were 16-25 from the
free-throw line; Taylorsville was 6-9.
What we learned from this game: Hillcrest dropped to 1-2 in
region and the offense (or lack of it) is the reason. The team is
averaging 30.6 points in the three games.
Next: Hillcrest plays host to Alta on Jan. 23, while Taylorsville has a
home game against Skyline.

Jan. 16 - Hillcrest 54, Jordan 46
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen ended her recent scoring
drought with 19 points and pulling down 17 rebounds as Hillcrest
got back on the winning track with a Region 2 victory over Jordan.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies dominated the first half,
jumping to a 32-18 lead at intermission, and then holding off
Jordan's comeback. Linda Shober had nine points.
Jordan's best moment: The Beetdiggers actually made a nice rally
in the fourth quarter, cutting the margin from 17 points. Bree Scuderi
had 12 points, including three treys.
Statistical notes: Jordan outscored Hillcrest 17-8 in the fourth
quarter. Hillcrest was 22-39 from the free-throw line; Jordan was
8-14. Surprisingly, Jordan's Luciana Soares had just three points.
What we learned from this game: Hillcrest got back on the winning
track following the disaster in the last game, and Amundsen
appeared back to normal.
Next: Hillcrest travels to Taylorsville on Jan. 21, while Jordan goes
to Brighton.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 14 - Skyline 48, Hillcrest 12
Story of the game: Whitney Jenkins scored 14 points and Skyline
shut down the Hillcrest offense, en route to an easy victory in the
Region 2 opener for both teams.
Hillcrest's best moment: Lexi Amundsen is the team's top scorer,
but she had just three points. Then again, nobody else could score
for Hillcrest either. The 12 points was - by far - a season low.
Skyline's best moment: The Eagles pulled away in the second
quarter and then held Hillcrest scoreless during the third period to
turn this game into a rout. Julie Hanks had 10 points for Skyline.
Statistical notes: Skyline outscored Hillcrest 25-2 during the
middle two quarters. There were no three-point baskets in this
game.
What we learned from this game: The Huskies offense was gone,
which is surprising considering this was the Region 2 opener. The
team should have been excited to play.
Next: Hillcrest takes on Jordan at home on Jan. 16. Skyline travels
to Brighton the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Jan. 6 - Kearns 58, Hillcrest 34
Story of the game: Brooke Larsen scored 17 points and helped
Kearns take the lead over Hillcrest early and keep expanding it in
the last non-region game for both teams.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies problem was offense.
Leading scorer Lexi Amundsen had just four points and nobody
else really picked up the scoring slack, except Linda Shober, who
had 10 points.
Kearns' best moment: The Cougars led the entire game, claiming
a 17-12 first-quarter lead and then moving it to 30-19 by halftime.
Their second-half defense allowed only 15 points after that, so
there was no comeback threat. Dallas Vega added 12 points and
Micalee Orton had 11.
Statistical notes: The 58 points given up by Hillcrest was the most
since the season opener. Kearns' victory was its third straight since
returning from the Farmington, N.M. tournament.
What we learned from this game: The non-region schedule went
pretty well for the Huskies, who are on top of the standings with a
7-4 record. No complaints.
Next: Hillcrest starts Region 2 action at home against Skyline Jan.
14. Kearns plays Region 3 power Riverton on Jan. 13.

Dec. 30 - Hillcrest 55, West Jordan 50
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored 12 points and Kelsey
Heard had 11 as Hillcrest used a big third quarter effort to rally past
West Jordan and keep the Jaguars winless in a non-region game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies trailed 26-21 at halftime, but
came out roaring in the third quarter, outscoring West Jordan 21-7
to take a nine-point lead. Hillcrest hit 22-37 free throws, many of
them down the stretch.
West Jordan's best moment: The Jaguars played well in the first
half and it seemed like their first victory was possible. Marina
Leuluai had nine points for West Jordan.
Statistical notes: The win was Hillcrest's fourth straight. West
Jordan was just 4-14 from the free-throw line. The Jags outscored
Hillcrest in every quarter but the third. Leslie Bateman and Shelby
Misrasi had eight each.
What we learned from this game: The Huskies are now 7-3 and
leading the region standings with just one non-region game left.
Next: Hillcrest returns home to play Kearns on Jan. 6. West Jordan
takes on Alta at home the same night.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 19 - Hillcrest 63, Granger 46
Story of the game: Kelsey Heard scored 14 points and Caitlin
Sharp had 13 as Hillcrest got balanced scoring for the first time this
season and bounced Granger in a non-region game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies led just 26-25 at halftime,
but really came around in the second half. Lexi Amundsen and
Hannah Thompson had 10 points apiece for Hillcrest.
Granger's best moment: Once again, Mary Lavekihelotu was
missing. This time, the Lancers had a better offensive response,
but it wasn't enough. Martha Haiola led with 14 points and Vahine
Tuigamala had 12.
Statistical notes: Hillcrest's 63 points was a season high, and the
most given up by Granger. The Lancers shot a season best 13-23
from the free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: Hillcrest won its third straight
game and is on top of the Region 3 standings. Hillcrest is 5-1 in
road games.
Next: Hillcrest travels to West Jordan Dec. 30. Granger is off until it
plays region foe West on Jan. 2.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 17 - Hillcrest 34, East 23
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored 12 points and Hillcrest
held East without a point in the second quarter en route to a
defensive-minded non-region win.
Hillcrest's best moment: Any time you hold a team without a point
in a quarter, it's a proud moment for your defense. Still, this was a
close game and Amundsen's points were the difference.
East's best moment: East played Hillcrest tough for most of the
game. The second-quarter drought really didn't hurt because the
Leopards only gave up four points in that span. Liz Fetzer had six
points for East.
Statistical notes: There were few fouls called as Hillcrest hit 3-4
free throws and East was 1-4. The 23 points given up was a
season-low for Hillcrest's defense.
What we learned from this game: The Huskies came back from
last night's tough win and came through. They're in the middle of
four games in seven nights.
Next: Hillcrest goes to Granger Dec. 19. East is done until Dec. 31
when it plays at Wasatch.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Dec. 16 - Hillcrest 46, Hunter 44
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored 13 points and had 18
rebounds, but it was Whitney Erickson's two free throws late in the
game that allowed Hillcrest to turn back Hunter in a non-region
game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies led most of the game, and
held a 14-point advantage (42-28) entering the final quarter. Stone
backed up Amundsen with 12 points. Erickson's two charity shots
were here only points.
Hunter's best moment: Innie Patailii had 18 points and Chalsey
Mestes 10 and they led the Wolverines huge comeback. Hunter had
a 14-0 run in that final period, but it wasn't quite enough.
Statistical notes: Hunter left some points at the free-throw line,
where they were 17-39. Hillcrest was 11-22. This was Hunter's
second straight close loss.
What we learned from this game: This one almost got away, but
perhaps Hillcrest learned something from last week's loss to Lehi.
Next: Hillcrest travels to East today (Dec. 17). Hunter goes to Logan
Dec. 20.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To read the Salt Lake Tribune
story, click here.
Dec. 12 - Cottonwood 39, Hillcrest 27
Story of the game: Angie Schwartz scored 18 points and
Cottonwood put together another nice defensive effort and beat
Hillcrest in a non-region game.
Hillcrest's best moment: Lexi Amundsen had been Hillcrest's big
scorer, but she had six points tonight. The Huskies had just 10 field
goals and were 5-15 from the free-throw line. An off night.
Cottonwood's best moment: The Colts' defense was the key,
holding Hillcrest to just seven first-half points and taking a 12-point
lead. The second half had more offense and the teams played
evenly.
Statistical notes: Schwartz had three treys for Cottonwood. The
Colts hit just 10-24 free throws. The teams combined to score 28
points in the fourth quarter, which was more than the entire first half.
Hillcrest's 27-point performance was a season low.
What we learned from this game: This is an example of the team
needing someone to help Amundsen. Opponents know they can
even double-team her and they may not get hurt.
Next: Hillcrest returns home to play Hunter Dec. 16. Cottonwood
entertains Sky View the same night..
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 9 - Lehi 57, Hillcrest 56
Story of the game: Gabby Granthem hit a three-point basket as the
buzzer sounded to give Lehi a comeback win over Hillcrest in a
non-region game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies trailed 26-23 at halftime, but
Lexi Amundsen (15 points) and Kelsi Heard (13) led a big rally in
the third quarter to give Hillcrest a 40-34 advantage. That was
enough until Granthem's final shot.
Lehi's best moment: Jackie Cattani led the comeback with 21
points as the Pioneers outscored Hillcrest 23-16 in the final quarter.
This might be Lehi's biggest win so far this season.
Statistical notes: Cattani was deadly from outside, nailing four
three-pointers. Lehi's rally against Provo last week fell short.
Granthem had 11 points and Briar Sands eight for Lehi. Shober
had nine points for Hillcrest.
What we learned from this game: The game isn't over until it's
over. Lehi went for the win instead of a tie in the final seconds.
Hillcrest was likely blanketing Cattani at the time.
Next: Hillcrest travels to neighborhood rival Cottonwood Dec. 12.
Lehi has Highland at home Dec. 11.

Dec. 5 - Hillcrest 50, Viewmont 30
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored 25 points and led
Hillcrest to a big lead en route to an easy road victory over Viewmont
in a non-region game.
Hillcrest's best moment: The Huskies led 14-2 after the first
quarter, and the game was never in doubt. Hillcrest was able to
empty its bench.
Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings kept pace with Hillcrest in
the fourth quarter, when the game was not in doubt. Leah Ellertson
led winless Viewmont with six points.
Statistical notes: Hillcrest was 22-39 from the free-throw line.
Viewmont was 6-12. Two of Amundsen's teammates scored six
points.
What we learned from this game: Hillcrest is on a three-game win
streak, and all of the victories have been on the road. This was a
good, relaxing win for the team.
Next: Hillcrest returns home to play Lehi on Dec. 9. Viewmont plays
host to Bountiful Dec. 12.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt
Lake Tribune.
Dec. 4 - Hillcrest 47, Copper Hills 43
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored 18 points as Hillcrest
gained an early lead and then held off Brittany Hackworth's
three-point shooting exhibition.
Copper Hills' best moment: Hackworth hit four three-pointers as
the Grizzlies came back from a 32-24 deficit. Copper Hills has had
trouble scoring all season, and this was their quarter to date.
Hillcrest's best moment: Amundsen was the dominant player. She
and her teammates came out after halftime and broke open the
close game with a 10-4 run.
Statistical notes: Copper Hills shot just 6-20 from the free-throw
line, while Hillcrest was 15-29. Amundsen had seven rebounds to
lead the Huskies
What we learned from this game: This was a good, close win for
Hillcrest, and its second straight. Amundsen has at least all-region
potential, but the Huskies need to find someone to help with the
scoring load.
Next: Copper Hills travels to Olympus Dec. 9. Hillcrest travels to
Viewmont tonight (Dec. 5).

the Deseret News brief, click here. To read the Salt Lake Tribune
box score, click here.
Dec. 2 - Hillcrest 53, Salem Hills 41
Story of the game: Lexi Amundsen scored 23 points and pulled
down an amazing 25 rebounds as Hillcrest shook off a poor
free-throw shooting effort and won its first game of the season over
Salem Hills.
Hillcrest's best moment: Amundsen carried the team, and it was
badly needed after the season-opening loss. The Huskies also
played a lot better defense. Hillcrest dominated the second and
third quarters, and then held off Salem Hills' rally.
Salem Hills' best moment: Salem Hills scored 19 points in the
fourth quarter, and Hillcrest knew it couldn't relax. They were also
helped by the Huskies' 8-24- free throw shooting effort.
Statistical notes: Linda Shober had 10 points for Hillcrest. Erica
Adams and Rebecca Jones had eight points each for Salem Hills.
What we learned from this game: A win is a win, and earning the
first one is important. Amundsen could develop into quite a player
for the Huskies.
Next: Hillcrest travels to play Copper Hills Dec. 4. Salem Hills goes
to Vernal to play in the Uintah Classic Dec. 5-6.

Nov. 25 - Bingham 98, Hillcrest 53
Story of the game: Nicole Yazzie scored 19 points and 10 players
scored for Bingham, as the Miners turned on their offense in the
third quarter and routed Hillcrest in the season opener for both
teams.
Hillcrest's best moment: Kelsey Heard led the Huskies with 24
points. This game ended up resembling a track meet, and Hillcrest
couldn't keep up. You can bet the defense will get a lot of work in
practice
Bingham's best moment: This was an impressive offensive
showing. The Miners were one basket from 100 points. They led
41-28 at halftime, but outscored Hillcrest 34-11 in the third quarter.
Statistical notes: Ninety-eight points will likely be a season high for
ANY Utah basketball team - boys or girls. This game was a foul
fest, too, with 79 free throws being taken.
What we learned from this game: It's the season opener for
Hillcrest, and it played one of the best teams in the state. Things
should be more competitive after this.
Next: Hillcrest goes to Salem Hills on Dec. 2. Bingham will play at
Alta the same night.
