Oct. 31 - Bingham 62, Jordan 42

Story of the game - Harvey Langi rushed for 159 yards and fellow
RB Richie Vakapuna had 107 as Bingham ran into a big lead and
finally outlasted Jordan in the first round of the 5A playoffs.

Jordan's best moment - QB Alex Hart had another big day,
passing for 367 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for
three others. WR Steve Morgan has really come on lately and
finished with 13 receptions for 197 yards.

Bingham's best moment - The Miners dominated on the line and
led 41-7 midway through the third quarter. Jordan rallied to within
48-42 in the second quarter, and then Bingham had to get back to
business and hold on to the win. The Miners finished with over
350 yards on the ground.

What we learned from this game - Jordan has had trouble with
Bingham's physicality recently, and this was their best effort in
Hart's last game. Jordan didn't go down without a fight.

Next - Jordan finished with a 7-5 record. Bingham advanced to
play Syracuse in a 5A quarterfinal.

Oct. 27 - Jordan 35, Brighton 30

Story of the game - QB Alex Hart and WR Braden Hammond
teamed up for four touchdown passes, but it was Jordan's
defense that stole the show as the Beetdiggers beat Brighton
again and advanced into the 5A playoffs.

Jordan's best moment - Trailing 7-0, Hart led Jordan to three
straight touchdown drives. He methodically moved the team
downfield with short passes, then surprised Brighton with a nice
touch on fly patterns down the sidelines. Hammond played well
in Jordan's most important game - to date - this season.

Brighton's best moment - The Bengals seemed ready to play
this time. Ricky Heimuli played, and made a big difference on the
line. Stephen Robinson returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for
a touchdown and Zane Smith caught a 65-yard TD pass from
Jace Felix.

What we learned from this game - Jordan won the game, and
deserved it. Bill Vavau made a nice play returning a blocked punt,
and Grant Gary returned a fumble for a score. Brighton was
known for its defense, but Jordan's defense was the difference in
this game.

Next - Jordan advances to play Bingham in the 5A playoffs.
Brighton is done for the season.

Oct. 23 - Jordan 28, Brighton 20

Story of the game - QB Alex Hart threw for 328 yards, and Jordan
took advantage of a muffed punt in the fourth quarter to beat
Brighton and force a tiebreaker to decide the No. 4 seed in the
region.

Jordan's best moment - The Beetdiggers have been all about
offense all season, but the defense came to play tonight. They
constantly stuffed Brighton on the line. Two of Brighton's three
touchdowns came on big plays.

Brighton's best moment - After Jordan went ahead 7-0, Brighton
pulled a reverse on the kickoff and Sosaia TaKai ran 90 yards for
a touchdown to tie the game. The Bengals' offense only had one
first down in the opening half, so this play kept them in the game.

What we learned from this game - Jordan was the better team
on this night. The Beetdiggers controlled the line of scrimmage,
and Hart led a controlled passing game. Jordan also had just
one turnover, and it did not hurt.

Next - Jordan and Brighton will play again Tuesday at 5 p.m. at
Hillcrest High. The winner will take on
Bingham next Saturday in
the 5A playoffs.

Oct. 16 - Jordan 54, Taylorsville 6

Story of the game - QB Alex Hart threw eight touchdown passes -
all in the first half - as Jordan cruised to a huge 54-0 halftime lead
and coasted to a win over Taylorsville in a non-region game.

Jordan's best moment - Hart's eight TDs gave him 37 for the
season, and he also moved past 3,000 yards for the season.
Cory Hunt grabbed three TD balls and Braden Hammond had
two.

Taylorsville's best moment - This was never a winnable gamefor
the winless Warriors. Taylor Heckenliable scored Taylorsville's
only touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.

What we learned from this game - This was just a warmup
game for Jordan, which must win at Brighton next week to earn a
5A playoff berth.

Next - Jordan travels to Brighton. Taylorsville plays host to
Bingham.

Oct. 9 - Lone Peak 38, Jordan 27

Story of the game - Kyson Flake and Tannon Pederson put on a
show, playing a role in each of Lone Peak's touchdowns as the
Knights managed to outscore Jordan in a Region 4 game.

Jordan's best moment - After Lone Peak took a 7-0 lead, QB Alex
Hart hit Braeden Hammond with a short pass, and the WR broke
a tackle and scored on an 80-yard play. Hart had a TD run to give
Jordan the lead. The Diggers were in the game until giving up 21
points in the fourth quarter.

Lone Peak's best moment - Pederson had a decent night
passing, but added 102 yards on the ground, including a nice run
late in the third quarter that seemed to inspire the team. A
six-minute drive that ended in a TD in the fourth quarter put the
game away.

What we learned from this game - This was a winnable game,
and Jordan couldn't get it. Now, the Diggers must beat Brighton to
have a chance.

Next - Jordan takes on Taylorsville in a non-region game. Lone
Peak plays host to
Pleasant Grove.

Oct. 1- Pleasant Grove 35, Jordan 14

Story of the game - RBs Kyle Tucker and Jeff Harris led Pleasant
Grove's running game, and the defense bottled up the
Beetdiggers most of the game, and that was enough to claim the
Region 4 win.

Jordan's best moment - The Diggers got the ball first, and QB
Alex Hart led a long drive. After eight completions, he hit Cory
Hunt on a 19-yard touchdown pass for the game's first score.
Hart finished with 318 yards passing.

PG's best moment - The Vikings only allowed 17 yards rushing,
and stopped Jordan from scoring late in the first half that ended
up being a big momentum boost. Harris opened the second half
with a 71-yard kickoff return that set up a score.

What we learned from this game - Jordan has the offense, but
has to score and not just move the ball between the 20s. The
Diggers must win at least one of their remaining games to make
the post-season.

Next - Jordan plays host to Lone Peak. Pleasant Grove travels to
Brighton.

the game. To read the D-News story,

report in the Salt Lake Tribune. To view the D-News photo gallery,

Sept. 25 - Jordan 56, Hillcrest 3

Story of the game - Alex Hart threw six touchdown passes and
helped Jordan score almost at will in the first half as the
Beetdiggers routed Hillcrest in a Region 4 game.

Jordan's best moment - Hart was dominating, passing for 340
yards and he also ran for a score. Hart's favorite receiver was
Braden Hammond, who caught three touchdown passes.

Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies actually scored first on a
33-yard field goal by Jeff Brown. That was their only score of the
game. At least Hillcrest stopped the Diggers from scoring in the
fourth quarter.

What we learned from this game - This was a great outing for
the Diggers. It was a dominating performance by the offense -
and defense.

Next - Jordan travels to Pleasant Grove. Hillcrest takes on
Brighton at home.

Sept. 18 - Jordan 43, American Fork 42 (OT)

Story of the game - Alex Hart tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass
to McCoy Hill on a fourth-down play, and then kicker Cody Rogers
added the game-winning extra point as Jordan beat American
Fork in a Region 4 game.

Jordan's best moment - The Diggers took the early lead, then fell
behind 36-14. Hart passed for 350 yards and four touchdowns,
and added 134 yards rushing. He hit Braden Hammond on a
9-yard TD pass late in the game to send it into overtime.

American Fork's best moment - QB Chase Hansen had a good
night and scored the Cavemen's touchdown in overtime on a
10-yard run. They missed the extra point. AF then stopped Jordan
on three straight plays, but it wasn't enough.

What we learned from this game - Jordan has the most
explosive offense in the region, and proved that it's never out of
any game - no matter the score. This was a game to remember.

Next - Jordan has a home game against Hillcrest. American Fork
returns home to take on
Pleasant Grove.

Sept. 11 - Alta 48, Jordan 20

Story of the game - Alta QB Jordan Brown had a field day against
Jordan's defense, throwing for almost 400 yards and leading the
Hawks to 620 yards of offense in a convincing Region 4 victory.

Jordan's best moment - QB Alex Hart had a big game, but he
had to throw short. WR Braden Hammond set a state record with
20 receptions for 175 yards, and all three of Jordan's TDs.

Alta's best moment - After giving up a first-quarter TD, Alta
scored 27 straight points and that eliminated Jordan's running
attack. Brown was able to throw for big yards, and averaged over
20 yards per completion.

What we learned from this game - This was a disappointing
defeat, as Jordan's defense didn't stop the Hawks enough to give
the Diggers a chance to be in the game.

Next - Jordan has its homecoming game against American Fork.
Alta
travels to Brighton.

Sept. 4 - Jordan 49, Sky View 28

Story of the game - Alex Hart passed for four touchdowns, and
ran for another, and teammate Cory Hunt had a 97-yard kickoff
return as Jordan traveled to Sky View and beat the Bobcats in a
non-region game.

Jordan's best moment - After Sky View scored to cut Jordan's
lead to 21-14, Hunt took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown
just before halftime. That gave the Beetdiggers momentum and
they opened the third quarter with three straight TDs to put the
game away.

Sky View's best moment - Kyler Carlsen passed for 268 yards
and three TDs for Sky View, but the Bobcats hurt themselves with
turnovers and penalties, and that prevented them from keeping
up with Jordan's powerful offense.

What we learned from this game - Jordan wins games by
outscoring opponents, but the defense came through in this
game. The Diggers have one of the highest-scoring offenses in
the state.

Next - Jordan opens Region 2 play at Alta. Sky View takes on
Lake City, Idaho, at the Rocky Mountain Rumble in Pocatello.

Aug. 28 - Jordan 52, Layton 26

Story of the game - Alex Hart put on a show, throwing for 479
yards and six touchdowns, as Jordan built a big lead and
walloped Layton in a non-region game.

Jordan's best moment -Hart tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass
to his buddy, Cory Hart, on the first play of the game and Jordan
never trailed. The best part was the Beetdiggers had no
turnovers. When that happens, they will likely win.

Layton's best moment - RB Adam Bunting ran for 158 yards on
just 15 carries, and also returned a kickoff 94 yards for a
touchdown. Layton came within 31-18 in the third quarter after a
7-yard TD run by Bunting.

What we learned from this game - This was a great offensive
effort by Hart and the Beetdiggers. Hart threw to several different
receivers, and the Jordan defense even forced a couple of
turnovers.

Next - Jordan plays at Sky View, while Layton begins Region 1
action at Northridge.

Links - The Deseret News had a reporter at the game. To read
the D-News story,
click here. There was no report in the Salt Lake
Tribune.

Aug. 21 - Northridge 36, Jordan 27

Story of the game - RBs Brock Johnson and Jordan Lee had big
games and Northridge racked up 501 yards of offense en route to
beating Jordan in the season for the second time in two years.

Jordan's best moment - The Beetdiggers started fast, with QB
Alex Hart hitting Cory Hunt on a 92-yard scoring toss on the first
play of the game. Hart ended up throwing for 437 yards.

Northridge's best moment - Leading 28-21 at halftime, the
Knights' defense handled Jordan better in the second half, only
giving up a score on the last play of the game. Northridge rallied
from a 7-0 deficit with a long scoring drive that gave it confidence.

What we learned from this game - Jordan is still all about
offense, but lacks physical play and defense (which is what wins
championships). The Diggers also turned the ball over three
times, but they should rally back and be fun to watch all year.

Next - Jordan travels to play Layton. Northridge starts Region 1
play with a game at Syracuse.
