Home games in CAPS
Feb. 18 - Taylorsville 47, Jordan 44

Story of the game: In her final game in front of the home crowd,
senior Athena Mauga scored 18 points and pulled down 13
rebounds as Taylorsville downed Jordan to enter the 5A state
tournament with a three-game win streak.

Jordan's best moment: The Beetdiggers almost won their first
region game. Bree Scuderi led Jordan with 11 points, while Steph
Burt had 10.

Taylorsville's best moment: This game was close all the way, and
the Warriors trailed 40-38 entering the fourth quarter. It was
Taylorsville's defense that prevailed, holding Jordan to just four
points in the last eight minutes.

Statistical notes: Jordan was 13-24 from the free-throw line;
Taylorsville was 11-22. Scuderi had three treys for Jordan. Jordan
led 29-26 at halftime.

What we learned from this game: This was the closest game of
the region season for Jordan, and the Diggers almost won it. It's
only fitting the season ended this way.

Next:  Jordan is done for the year. Taylorsville advances to the 5A
state tournament.

Feb. 13 - Brighton 51, Jordan 17

Story of the game: Kylie Hirschi scored 18 points as Brighton blew
out Jordan and clinched first place in Region 2.

Jordan's best moment: The Beetdiggers were never in the game.
Nicole Wiaderny led Jordan with five points. The 17 points of
offense was a season low.

Brighton's best moment: The Bengals led 15-7 after the first
quarter and 29-11 at halftime. The defense limited Jordan to six
second-half points, so they were never threatened. Brighton was
able to empty its bench.

Statistical notes: Brighton was 10-16 from the free-throw line;
Jordan was just 1-2. Twelve different players scored for Brighton.

What we learned from this game: This was not a winnable game
because of the talent differential and the fact that Brighton had a
good reason to win. The end of Jordan's rough season is near.

Next: Jordan goes to Taylorsville on Feb. 18. Brighton plays host to
Hillcrest the same night.

Feb. 11 - Skyline 54, Jordan 44

Story of the game: Whitney Jenkins scored 14 points as Skyline
held off Jordan in a tougher-than-expected Region 2 contest.

Jordan's best moment: Bree Scuderi led the Beetdiggers with 16
points. It was "Senior Night" at Jordan, and the Diggers played one
of their better games, but hurt themselves with poor free-throw
shooting (1-10). Steph Burt had 10 points for Jordan.

Skyline's best moment: The Eagles led most of the game,
although it was only 29-26 at halftime. Hannah Bezdjian added
nine points as Skyline hit enough of its free throws to actually
extend the lead late in the game.

Taylorsville the same night.

free-throw line, and Hillcrest actually extended the lead in the fourth
quarter.

Statistical notes: Hillcrest scored 23 points in the fourth quarter.
Amundsen played a big part in the Huskies' 16-23 effort at the
free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: This was a good effort by
Jordan, but it still resulted in its seventh straight loss.

Next: Jordan plays host to Skyline on Feb. 11. Hillcrest takes on
Taylorsville at home the same night.

Story of the game: McKenzie Morrison scored 18 points and Erin
Foster had 17 as Alta broke open a close game in the fourth
quarter and beat Jordan in a Region 2 game.

Jordan's best moment: The Diggers trailed 24-12 at halftime, but
turned it into a game with their third-quarter run. Unfortunately, they
didn't have enough gas to continue. Bree Scuderi, Amy Sorensen
and Madison Naylor each had eight points.

Alta's best moment: The Hawks led the entire game, but Jordan
rallied in the third quarter to cut the margin to 33-27. Alta then
outscored Jordan 27-11 to turn the game into a rout. Becca
Beaudoin added 14 points.

Statistical notes: Both teams did not shoot well from the
free-throw line. Alta was 13-25 and Jordan just 2-10. Foster had
four of Alta's seven three-point baskets.

What we learned from this game: Alta's win was not a surprise,
but Jordan played tough and the game wasn't decided until the
fourth quarter.

Story of the game: Kim Ringwood scored 13 points and Brighton's
defense held Jordan to just seven first-half points en route to a
convincing Region 2 win.

Their best quarter was the third, but they still couldn't reduce the
deficit. Luciana Soares was the top scorer with eight points.

Brighton's best moment: The Bengals led 10-4 after the first
quarter and 24-7 at halftime. Katie Tominaga added nine points
and Nicole Hirschi had eight.

offense. Not many fouls were called in this game as Brighton was
2-4 from the free-throw line, and Jordan 4-7.

What we learned from this game: Jordan dropped to 0-4 in
region. The Diggers have been competitive in most games, but a
post-season berth is unlikely.

goes to
Hillcrest the same night.

it was a competitive game. Kim Bohne had 15 points for the
Grizzlies, while Jessica Cruse had 14.

Kearns in the fourth quarter, even though the game was out of
reach. Kim Marriott was the top scorer with seven points.

Kearns' best moment: The Cougars took a 17-4 advantage after

where they are 2-0 this season. The Cougars were 6-17 from the

Dec. 16 - Mountain View 67, Jordan 39

Story of the game: J.J. Petit scored 16 points and Chelsey
Kocherhans had 15 as Mountain View stayed unbeaten with a
convincing non-region victory over Jordan.

Jordan's best moment: This game was never in doubt. Jordan
couldn't put together an inside game, so it put up a lot of shots
from the perimeter. In fact, six of its 11 baskets were
three-pointers. Luciana Soares led with 13 points.

Mountain View's best moment: The Bruins are a good team. They
led 18-9 after the first quarter and 30-15 at halftime. They emptied

Bree Scuderi had eight points for Jordan. Both teams shot about
the same from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: This was Jordan's fifth-straight

Statistical notes: Jordan hit 15-17 free throws. This was Jordan's
third game in three nights. Yazzie had four three-pointers for the

Mountain View on Dec. 16.

then had to hit pressure free throws near the end to hold off
Jordan's rally. Elaine Peterson had 13 points, while Xojian Harry
and Nikki Fernandes had 12 each.

Statistical notes: Jordan outscored Woods Cross 34-23 in the
second half. Madison Naylor had eight points and eight rebounds

tonight (Dec. 11). Woods Cross plays Davis at home Dec. 12.

reserves. Bree Scuderi had 14 points for Jordan, including one of
the team's three-point baskets.

Lone Peak's best moment: Johnson, a 6-2 sophomore center,
had her way in this game. Guard Megan Smith backed her up with
16 points. The Knights limited Jordan to just two points in the
second quarter.

Statistical notes: Lone Peak improved to 3-0 and has beaten each
of its opponents by about the same score as this one. The Knights
were 10-15 from the free-throw line. Jordan was 3-13.

What we learned from this game: This was Jordan's first game
against a very good team, and it shows how much the Diggers
need to improve to be called one.
