Feb. 28 - Carbon 39, Judge Memorial 27

Story of the game: Tia Pappas scored 13 points and Carbon's
defense muffled Judge en route to victory in the third-place game of
the 3A state tournament.

Judge Memorial's key moment: The Bulldogs' offense was held to
a season low total. Judge trailed 14-7 at halftime, and was never
really in the game. Erica Martinez finished with 11 points and Tina
Fakahafua ended her Judge playing career with 10 points.

Carbon's key moment: The Dinos played good defense and hit
their free throws down the stretch to hang on to the win. Carbon
ended up outscoring Judge 18-11 in the final quarter.

Statistical notes: Carbon was 11-12 from the free-throw line; Judge
was 5-9. Martinez had three treys for Judge. Mikelle Mancini and
Alison Brann had three points for Judge. They were the only other
Bulldogs that scored.

What we learned from this game: After a tough loss the previous
night, Judge wasn't inspired to play this game and walked off the
court with a second-straight loss.

Next: Both teams are done for the season.

Feb. 27 - Emery 47, Judge Memorial 39

Story of the game: Jodi Robertson made up for her gaffe in last
year's state tournament, scoring 15 points, including a key
three-pointer late in the game, to lift Emery into the 3A state
championship game with a win over Judge Memorial.

Judge Memorial's key moment: The Bulldogs trailed most of the
game, and were behind by as many as 10 points. Erica Martinez led
Judge with 15 points and Tina Fakahafua had 14 as Judge got to
within one point with 5:20 remaining.

Emery's key moment: Robertson's three-pointer stretched Judge's
lead from 36-35 to 39-35 and the Spartans were never threatened
after that. The basket helped make up for last year, when Robertson
was assessed a technical foul with 1:06 left that cost them the
game against Judge.

Statistical notes: Martinez had four three-pointers for Judge. Emery
was 17-27 from the free-throw line; Judge was 8-12. Fakahafua
was saddled with foul trouble for part of the game.

What we learned from this game: The win was Emery's 13th
straight and ended the possible rematch with Wasatch for the 3A
state title.

Next: Judge faces Carbon in the third-place game. Emery plays
Wasatch for the title.

Feb. 26 - Judge Memorial 60, Hurricane 46

Story of the game: Mikelle Mancini and Tina Fakahafua scored 13
points apiece as Judge's defense throttled Hurricane the entire first
half and the Bulldogs rolled to a win in the quarterfinals of the 3A
state tournament.

Judge Memorial's key moment: The Bulldogs put the clamps on
Hurricane's leading scorer, Megan Clyde, holding her to three
first-half points, and that enabled Judge to gain a 30-14 halftime
advantage. Alison Brann added 12 points and Sekola Falemaka
had 10.

Hurricane's key moment: The Tigers came back in the second half
as Clyde scored 17 of her 20 points after intermission. Still, they
couldn't get hold close to worry Judge. Angela Shields backed up
Clyde with nine points.

Statistical notes: Erica Martinez had a pair of three-pointers for
Judge. Clyde had two for Hurricane. Judge was 14-23 from the
free-throw line; Hurricane was 6-12.

What we learned from this game: Judge looked good in advancing
to the 3A semifinals. Some people are predicting a rematch with
Wasatch for the title.

Next: Judge plays Emery in one semifinal contest. Hurricane will
play Morgan in the consolation bracket.

quarter, but outscored Delta 14-4 to take a 21-13 lead. They

and third quarters, but the two other did them in. Shanel Bliss led
the way with nine points, on three treys.

Statistical notes: Judge was 17-28 from the free-throw line; Delta
was 7-14. Judge had four three-point baskets, all from different
players.

among the top eight teams in 3A.

Feb. 13 - Judge Memorial 49, Union 44

Story of the game: Erica Martinez scored 22 points, including six
three-point baskets, as Judge hung on to beat Union and earn a
share of the Region 10 champoinship.

Judge Memorial's best moment: The Bulldogs trailed in the first
quarter, but came back and took the lead. Judge led by five entering
the final period and hit enough of its free throws to earn the win.
Tina Fakahafua added 13 points.

down to the final minutes. Brianna Nielsen finished with 16 points
and Alexis Benson had 14.

Statistical notes: Judge was just 11-22 from the free-throw line,
while Union was 12-25. Judge had eight three-point baskets in the
game.

win, but this wasn't easy. Judge finished tied with Wasatch, and the
Wasps won the coin flip and accepted the top seed.

Next: Judge will play Delta at home in the first round of the 3A
tournament on Feb. 21. Union plays at Carbon in the tourney.

Feb. 11 - Judge Memorial 49, Waterford 29

Story of the game: Tina Fakahafua scored 16 points as Judge got
off to a big lead early in the game and went on to beat Waterford in
the last regular-season home game.

Judge Memorial's best moment: The Bulldogs' defense played a
big role, holding Waterford to just one point in the first quarter.
Judge led 25-8 at halftime and let a lot of reserves play. Mikelle
Mancini had nine points and Erica Martinez eight.

Waterford's best moment: Kim Miyashima had 10 points for
Waterford, most of which came in the fourth quarter when the game
was already decided.

Statistical notes: There were few fouls called. Judge was just 3-6
from the free-throw line, while Waterford was 4-10. Martinez had two
of Judge's four three-pointers.

What we learned from this game: Judge kept pace with Wasatch
and is still tied for first place in region with one game remaining.

Waterford travels to Uintah the same night.

Feb. 5 - Judge Memorial 39, Uintah 26

Story of the game: Tina Fakahafua and Alison Brann scored 11
points apiece as Judge finally pulled away from Uintah in the fourth
quarter and earned the Region 10 win.

Judge Memorial's best moment: The Bulldogs led just 24-20
entering the final period. Uintah was forced to foul and Judge hit
most of its free throws. Mikelle Mancini added 10 points for Judge

Uintah's best moment: The Utes stayed close until late in the game
in this defensive-minded contest - far better than the last time these
teams played. Uintah didn't have much offense, but Jordon Tripp
scored 10 points.

Statistical notes: Judge finished 14-19 from the free-throw line,
while Uintah was 7-11. Judge had three treys from different players.
The 26-point effort tied for the least Judge has given up in any game
this season.

track in a tough environment. The Bulldogs have already clinched a
berth in the 3A state tournament.

Next: Judge returns home to play Waterford Feb. 11. Uintah goes to

Feb. 3 - Wasatch 51, Judge Memorial 50 (OT)

Story of the game: Kim Parker scored 15 points, including the
winning free throw in the final seconds of overtime, to lift Wasatch
over Judge Memorial and put the two teams tied for first place in
Region 10.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge trailed 28-20 at halftime on
its home floor, but rallied to force the extra session. Erica Martinez
was the big scorer with a game-high 22 points.

Wasatch's best moment: This game was almost a repeat of the
two team's earlier contest, but this time Wasatch got the winning
shot. Katrina Baird had 14 points for Wasatch, which hit six
three-point baskets.

Statistical notes: Wasatch outscored Judge 17-5 in the second
quarter. Wasatch was 17-25 from the free-throw line, while Judge
was 13-16. Tina Fakahafua had 10 points for Judge.

What we learned from this game: The loss ended Judge's
15-game win streak. It probably won't cost the team much, either. If
the teams win out, a coin flip will decide who earns the top seed.

Next: Judge plays at Uintah on Feb. 5. Wasatch plays host to
Waterford the same night.

Jan. 29 - Judge Memorial 59, Park City 29

plenty of help from her teammates as Judge pulled away from Park
City in the third quarter and earned the Region 10 win.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge led 25-16 at halftime, but
then outscored Park City 24-8 in the third quarter to grab a big lead.
Tina Fakahafua added 13 points and Mikelle Mancini had 12.

Park City's best moment: The Miners got off to a slow start, but
were still in the game - even at halftime. Park City just didn't have
enough offense to stay in the game.

Statistical notes: Both teams shot badly from the free-throw line.
Judge was 8-20, while Park City was 2-10. Judge had five
three-pointers, while Park City had just one.

What we learned from this game: Judge did what it was supposed
to do - beat Park City handily at home. The Bulldogs are still in first
place in Region 10.

Next: Judge plays host to Wasatch on Feb. 3. Park City has
Waterford at home the same night.

finish the first half of the Region 10 season unbeaten.

Judge Memorial's best moment: The Bulldogs trailed 14-6 after
one quarter and 26-19 at halftime. However, the defense picked up
in the second half and Judge hit enough free throws late to avoid
the upset.

plan and surprised Judge. They were outscored 32-12 in the
second half, though. Brianna Nielsen had 14 points for Union.

Statistical notes: Mancini and Alison Brann had three treys each for
Judge. Brann finished with 13 points. Tina Fakahafua had eight.

Waterford Jan. 30.

Jan. 21 - Judge Memorial 51, Waterford 27

the Judge sharpshooters were dialing in from long distance as the
Bulldogs pulled away from Waterford in the second half and won
their 13th straight game.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge led 26-17 at halftime, but
limited the Ravens to just 10 points after that. Erica Martinez had 12
points. The Bulldogs had seven three-point baskets, with Martinez
leading with three.

Waterford's best moment: The Ravens trailed just 10-9 after the
first quarter. Kimi Miyashima was the leading scorer with 12 points.

Statistical notes: Waterford had just seven field goals, two of them
were three-pointers by Miyashima. Waterford was 11-20 from the
free-throw line; Judge was 8-14.

What we learned from this game: Judge improved to 4-0 in region
with the win, and only one region game (Wasatch) has been close.
Fakahafua could be headed twoard a Region 10 MVP award.

Next: Judge plays Union at home Jan. 23. Waterford travels to
Uintah the same night.

down 11 rebounds as Judge had its outside shooting working and
rolled to a convincing home win over Uintah.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge led only 30-25 at halftime,
but blew out the Utes in the second half, outscoring them 34-8.
Mikelle Mancini and Erica Martinez had 10 points apiece.

Uintah's best moment: The Utes stayed with Judge throughout the
first half, but could not generate any offense after that. Jordon Tripp
led Uintah with nine points.

Statistical notes: Mancini had 10 assists for Judge, which also
made seven three-point baskets. There were few fouls called as
Judge was just 5-8 from the free-throw line; Uintah was 6-10.

What we learned from this game: Judge didn't let up in this game,
which could have easily happened after the recent win at Wasatch.

Next: Judge travels to play Waterford on Jan. 21. Uintah has Park
City at home Jan. 20.

Jan. 13 - Judge Memorial 46, Wasatch 43

Story of the game: Alison Brann's three-point jumper from the
corner went through the net as time expired to lift Judge to its first
win at Wasatch in five years.

Judge Memorial's best moment: The Bulldogs trailed most of the
game, but playmakers Tina Fakahafua and Mikelle Mancini, as well
as their three-point shooting, kept them close. Fakahafua finished
with 17 points. Mancini had 11 and Erica Martinez eight.

Wasatch's best moment: The Wasps rode the scoring of
BYU-bound senior Kim Parker, who had a game-high 26 points,
including three treys.

Statistical notes: Judge outscored Wasatch 12-7 in the pivotal
fourth quarter and remained in first place in the Region 10
standings.

What we learned from this game: This was a big win as Wasatch
might be the Bulldogs' biggest threat in 3A. The teams play again
Feb. 3.

Next: Judge returns home to play Uintah on Jan. 15. Wasatch goes
to Waterford Jan. 16.

Jan. 9 - Judge Memorial 59, Park City 27

Story of the game: Tina Fakahafua scored 17 points and Judge
pulled away with a big second quarter and rolled to an easy win at
Park City in both team's Region 10 opener.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge led 17-10 after the first
quarter, but then expanded the margin to 33-12 at halftime. The
Bulldogs substituted freely. Alison Brann had 10 points and Erica
Martinez nine.

Park City's best moment: The Miners are winless so far this
season and this game went downhill for them after the first few
minutes. Laurel Kasel led Park City with 12 points.

Statistical notes: Only three players scored for Park City. Judge hit
six three-pointers; Park City had one. The Bulldogs outscored Park
City 30-10 during the middle two quarters.

What we learned from this game: The season opener went well
for Judge, and that's good because the Bulldogs could have easily
been looking forward to their next game.

Next: Judge travels to play defending 3A champion Wasatch Jan.
13. Park City goes to Waterford Jan. 14.

Jan. 3 - Judge Memorial 57, Juan Diego 27

Story of the game: Erica Martinez scored 21 points and Tina
Fakahafua had 15 as Judge jumped on Juan Diego early, rolling to
a big halftime lead and coasting to a win over their local Catholic
rivals.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge led 18-4 after the first
quarter, and it was over. The Bulldogs expanded the margin in the
third quarter and then substituted freely to win their 9th straight
game.

Juan Diego's best moment: The Soaring Eagle played a good
second quarter, staying even and trailed 30-15 at halftime. Judge
must have felt nervous because it came out hard in the second half.
Lauren Tigue led Juan Diego with eight points.

Statistical notes: Martinez had three of Judge's four three-point
baskets. Judge was 15-25 from the free-throw line. Juan Diego was
2-2. Juan Diego seems to win when it scores over 40 points.

What we learned from this game: Judge still dominates this rivalry
in girls basketball. The Bulldogs are on a roll and could be headed
for the 3A title.

Next: Judge opens Region 10 play at Park City Jan. 9. Juan Diego
takes on Ben Lomond at home Jan. 6.

Dec. 23 - Judge Memorial 53, Morgan 49

Story of the game: Tina Fakahafua continued her scoring spurt,
pouring in a season-high 22 points as Judge held off Morgan's
fourth-quarter rally and beat the Trojans in a non-region game.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge had a big second quarter,
outscoring Morgan 18-5 and take a 36-20 lead. Erica Martinez had
17 points and Mikelle Mancini 10.

Morgan's best moment: The Trojans never gave up, rallying behind
Crishelle Stegelmeier, Ashley Garfield and Angela Blazzard. They
made it a game late in the fourth quarter.

Statistical notes: Judge hit 20-32 free throws, which was enough to
hold on to the win. Morgan outscored the Bulldogs 29-17 in the
second half. Martinez had three treys for Judge.

What we learned from this game: This was a rematch of last
year's 3A tourney semifinal, and it appears both will make the
postseason again.

Next: Judge is off until it plays host to Juan Diego Jan. 3. Morgan
has a home game against North Summit Jan. 6.

Dec. 20 - Judge Memorial 45, Ogden 32

Story of the game: Tina Fakahafua had a season-high 20 points as
Judge finally pulled away from Ogden in the fourth quarter and
netted a non-region region.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Ogden led 9-6 after the first
quarter, and was still within 30-26 entering the final period. Mikelle
Mancini backed up Fakahafua with 11 points.

Ogden's best moment: This was a winnable game for the Tigers
(5-6). Lammers led with nine points. Ogden also helped itself by
hitting 10-12 free throws.

Statistical notes: Judge outscored Ogden 15-6 in the final period,
and that was the decisive moment. Erica Martinez was held to just
five points. Fakahafua is now Judge's second-leading scorer.

What we learned from this game: Judge earned its seventh
straight win, but it wasn't easy. It seems 3A girls basketball might
be more competitive than the bigger schools.

Next: Judge gets another test Dec. 23 when it plays host to Morgan.
Ogden is off until it starts Region 11 play at
Grantsville Jan. 8.

Dec. 19 - Judge Memorial 54, Lehi 39

Story of the game: Erica Martinez and Tina Fakahafua scored 15
points apiece and Judge was on fire from the outside, nailing a
season-high seven three-pointers, in Judge's non-region win at
Lehi.

Judge Memorial's best moment: This game was played at a fast
pace and Judge had the lead from the start. It was 17-9 at the end
of the first quarter and 33-19 at halftime. Martinez had three treys,
Alison Brann had two and Fakahafua and Mikelle Mancini had one
each.

Lehi's best moment: The offense is still inconsistent for the
Pioneers. Much of this game was played at the perimeter, and
Lehi's shots were not falling. Gabby Granthem led with eight points.

Statistical notes: Jackie Cattani, Katie Rogers and Briar Sands had
seven points apiece for Lehi. Brann, Mancini and Sekola Falemaka
had eight each for Judge. The game was played pretty evenly in the
second half. Only 13 free throws were attempted (combined).

What we learned from this game: Six straight wins by Judge, and
this time the opponent was a 5A school on the road. The Bulldogs
are in good form.

Next: Judge returns home to take on Ogden tonight (Dec. 20). Lehi
has a home game against
Grantsville Dec. 23.

Dec. 16 - Judge Memorial 57, West 40

Story of the game: Mikelle Mancini scored 19 points and Tina
Fakahafua had 15 points and 11 rebounds as Judge pulled away
from West in the second quarter and won its fifth straight game.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge led just 14-10 after the first
quarter, but pulled away to take a 32-16 advantage at halftime.
Mancini and Alison Brann hit two three-pointers each and Judge
also shot well from the free-throw line.

West's best moment: The Panthers staged a minor rally in the
fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late. Destynee Rios had nine
points - all on three-point baskets.

Statistical notes: West was 1-8 from the free-throw line. Nine
players scored for the Panthers, however. This was Fakahafua's
best game of the season.

What we learned from this game: After losing their first game in
overtime, Judge is on a roll and it's impressive to do it against 4A
schools.

Next: Judge plays at Lehi on Dec. 19. West is done until Jan. 2,
when it opens Region 6 play at
Granger.

helped Judge build a big first-quarter lead en route to a non-region
victory over Bountiful.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Judge's defense was working,
too, because the Bulldogs held a 14-4 lead at the end of the first
quarter. The teams played pretty evenly the rest of the way. Mikelle
Mancini had 13 points.

Bountiful's best moment: Judge led 23-12 at halftime, but Bountiful
got its offense going a bit after that. Helped by guard Heather
Stucki's 12 points, the Braves valiantly tried to rally.

Statistical notes: Bountiful was coming off two bad losses where
they were defeated by over 40 points in each game. Bountiful hit just
7-18 free throws; Judge was 14-23.

What we learned from this game: It was a good home win for
Judge, who are playing a set of six home games out of seven.

Next: Judge has a home game against West Dec. 16. Bountiful
plays at Viewmont tonight (Dec. 12).

Dec. 9 - Judge Memorial 76, East 21

Story of the game: Erica Martinez scored 18 points and Tina
Fakahafua had 15 as Judge rolled to a 25-0 first-quarter lead and
routed East in a non-region game between neighborhood rivals.

Judge Memorial's best moment: The first quarter had to be great,
then it became embarrassing. Judge was able to empty its bench
early and 10 players scored. Mikelle Mancini and Rosie Neville
reached double figures with 11 and 10 points.

East's best moment: This was basically a repeat of the Sky View
game. Once again, East had trouble scoring. Laura Kruse led with
six points on a couple of three-point baskets.

Statistical notes: Last year, East beat the Bulldogs so the
Leopards have lost a lot of talent. For the third straight game, it has
taken East until the third quarter to reach double figures (10 points).

What we learned from this game: Judge is a good team, but East
is showing that it may be really bad. And, if that's true, what about
Tooele (which lost to East)?

Next: Judge takes on Bountiful at home Dec. 11. East returns home
to play
Lehi Dec. 12.

Dec. 5 - Judge Memorial 35, Murray 26

Story of the game: Mikelle Mancini scored 15 points as Judge
broke away from host Murray in the middle two quarters and beat
the Spartans in a battle of cold-shooting teams.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Trailing 10-9 after one quarter,
Judge's defense clamped down, holding the Spartans to no more
than six points per quarter the rest of the way.

Murray's best moment: The Spartans played best in the first
quarter. They spread the scoring around and even hit all of their free
throws (4-4) for the game.

Statistical notes: Both teams had just nine field goals in the game.
Of those, Murray had four three-pointers. Judge was 14-19 from the
free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: Judge's second consecutive win
helps it forget the opening-game loss. The schedule doesn't get
easier and, since they don't count in the region standings, they only
prepare the team better.

Next: Judge has its first home game Dec. 9 against East. Murray
goes to
Taylorsville the same day.

Dec. 2 - Judge Memorial 57, Grantsville 51

Story of the game: Erica Martinez scored 20 points, including three
three-point baskets, as Judge staged a huge rally in the third
quarter and downed Grantsville for its first win.

Judge Memorial's best moment: The rally actually started in the
second quarter, but the third quarter was huge, as Judge outscored
the home team 20-5. Martinez had seven points during that time.

Grantsville's best moment: Kelsi Wells and Sammie Jensen
helped the Cowboys get off to a strong start - and a seven-point
lead. They hit 5-6 from the free-throw line in the opening quarter, too.

Statistical notes: After the first quarter, Grantsville was 11-25 from
the line. Judge finished 10-16, which was enough to allow the
Bulldogs to hold on to the win.

What we learned from this game: After a disappointing
opening-game loss, Judge came back. That must have been an
inspiring halftime talk because it worked.

Next: Judge travels to play Murray on Dec. 5. Grantsville (1-1) goes
to Spanish Fork on Dec. 4.

Nov. 25 - Highland 57, Judge Memorial 54 (2OT)

Story of the game: Chanel Roe scored 17 points as Highland
staged a fourth-quarter rally and went on to edge Judge Memorial in
both team's season opening game.

Judge Memorial's best moment: Erica Martinez and Tina
Fakahafua were a great 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs. Martinez led the
with a game-high 21 points and Fakahafua had 19. The Bulldogs
had a five-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but lost it.

Highland's best moment: The Rams outscored Judge 14-9 in the
fourth quarter. That gave Highland the momentum in the overtime,
which they used to earn their first win over the Bulldogs in 12 years.

Statistical notes: 5-11 Beauty Tuakalau backed up Roe with 10
points. Mikelle Mancini had 10 for Judge. Both teams shot 50
percent from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: This was a good first game for
both teams. With the win, Highland has turned it into a
neighborhood "rivalry" again. Judge benefits a lot from playing
bigger schools as it prepares for the Region 10 season.

Next: Judge travels to Grantsville, a tough 3A opponent, on Dec. 2.
Highland has a home game against Taylorsville the same night.
