Oct. 23 - Westlake 21, Lehi 3

Story of the game - QB John Ursua rushed for over 100 yards, and
Westlake took advantage of a couple of Lehi fumbles to claim the
Region 7 victory between these two Alpine School District rivals.

Lehi's best moment - The first half ended tied 0-0, but Westlake went
up 7-0 in the third quarter. The Pioneers finally got a decent drive and K
Garrett Bayles put Lehi on the scoreboard with a 32-yard field goal.

Westlake's best moment - Moana Ofahengaue picked up a fumble
and returned it 15 yards for Westlake's first score. Ursua added another
score on a short run, and then the Thunder added touchdown in the
game's final minutes.

What we learned from this game - The loss ended a long season for
Lehi. This was a rebuilding year in the worst way. The team was young,
but did get a lot of good playing experience and that should pay off in
the future.

Next - Both Lehi and Westlake have finished their seasons.

Oct. 14 - Timpview 48, Lehi 3

Story of the game - The three-time defending state champions jumped
to a 35-0 halftime lead and had no trouble handling Lehi in the
Pioneers final home game.

Lehi's best moment - The Pioneers trailed 48-0 late in the game until
Garrett Bayles' nailed a 49-yard field goal to put the home team on the
scoreboard. Bayles has been one of Lehi's best attributes all season.

Timpview's best moment - The Thunderbirds are back on track, and
have put up 170 points in the last three games.

What we learned from this game - This was never a winnable game.
What else can you say? Coach Payton was able to empty his bench,
and perhaps that will pay dividends in the future.

Next - Lehi plays at new rival Westlake. Timpview travels to Provo.

Oct. 8 - Orem 27, Lehi 10

Story of the game - Keenan Karrati rushed for 200 yards as Orem
broke away from Lehi in the second half and earned a
tougher-than-expected Region 7 win over the Pioneers.

Lehi's best moment - Lehi's offense struggled, but the Pioneers
pressured Orem with help of an 88-yard kickoff return by Steven Lew.
Garrett Bayles' 37-yard field goal was Lehi's other score.

Orem's best moment - Orem led 13-10 at halftime, but Joe Jensen
caught a 23-yard TD pass from Harrison Gray and then Jeremiah Tiatia
intercepted a pass to set up another touchdown.

What we learned from this game - Orem moved into a position to
make the 4A playoffs. Lehi has no shot at the playoffs, and is now trying
to gain some respect and prepare for next year.

Next - Lehi plays host to 4A power Timpview. Orem takes on Provo.

Oct. 2 - Mountain View 63, Lehi 14

Story of the game - RB Bennett Maxwell rushed for 100 yards, and
played the largest role as Mountain View ran for 450 yards en route to a
convincing victory over Lehi.

Lehi's best moment - The game was close in the first quarter. QB
Palmer Page threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Russon, and RB
Colby Massa scored on a 5-yard run.

Mountain View's best moment - The Bruins broke away in the second
quarter. Leading 21-14 after the first period, Mountain View scored two
touchdowns in each quarter after that. QB Dustin Thacker threw for 117
yards, and the Bruins finished with about 700 yards of offense.

What we learned from this game - No defense. Mountain View
dominated, and Lehi couldn't keep up. The 63 points given up was a
season high.

Next - Lehi plays host to Orem. Mountain View goes to Provo.

Sept. 25 - Provo 33, Lehi 0

Story of the game - QB Matt Griner ran for two touchdowns, and
Armand Na'oupu returned a fumble 26 yards for a score as Provo used
ball control to beat Lehi and spoil the Pioneers' homecoming game.

Lehi's best moment - QB Palmer Page led the Pioneers on several
decent drives in the second half, but they could never cross the goal
line. Steven Lew had 51 yards rushing, and a good game defensively.
He was also honored as homecoming king.

Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs got their offense going in the
second quarter. Griner and Kyler Hamilton scored on short runs, and
then Na'oupu's touchdown gave them a 20-0 lead at intermission.

What we learned from this game - The Pioneers are playing tougher,
but are being dominated at the line of scrimmage. Youth and size
seem to be their problems, and opponents are taking advantage.

Next - Lehi travels to Mountain View in another Region 7 game. Provo
plays host to Ogden in a non-region contest.

Sept. 18 - Clearfield 34, Lehi 14

Story of the game - RB Austin Ford rushed for 122 yards and scored
two touchdowns, and QB Kolton Young had a big game throwing the
ball as Clearfield built a big lead and held off Lehi in a non-region
game.

Lehi's best moment - The Pioneers trailed 21-0 at halftime, but rallied
when RB Colby Massa caught an 81-yard TD pass form Palmer Page.
Jake Benson added a 1-yard run. Massa finished with 73 yards on just
10 carries, and was the leading receiver.

Clearfield's best moment - Young had two short touchdowns run, and
added a scoring pass to Cameron Clark as the Falcons were able to
withstand Lehi's comeback bid. Young passed for 193 yards and
Clearfield had about 400 yards total offense.

What we learned from this game - It's a loss, but at least Lehi is
scoring these days. The Pioneers need to get off to faster starts so they
can put some worry into their opponents.

Next - Lehi plays host to Provo, while Clearfield travels to Weber.

Sept. 11 - Timpanogos 44, Lehi 31

Story of the game - J.D. Ashman scored four touchdowns, including a
95-yard kickoff return that ended up being the big play of the game, as
Timpanogos held off Lehi in a Region 7 game.

Lehi's best moment - This was Lehi's best offensive performance of
the season. QB Palmer Page threw for 237 yards and three
touchdowns, and Colby Massa rushed for 82 yards. Lehi trailed 44-17
at one point, but rallied with two TDs, and had another chance but a
pass was intercepted in the end zone.

Timpanogos' best moment - The Thunderbirds were surprised when
Lehi held a 17-14 lead, but Ashman then returned the ensuing kickoff
for a score, and they never trailed again.

What we learned from this game - Lehi's offense put points on the
scoreboard for really the first time this season. That has to be good
confidence-builder for the team.

Next - Lehi plays host to Clearfield in its last non-region game of the
season. Timpanogos has Orem at home.

Sept. 4 - Hillcrest 41, Lehi 0

Story of the game - QB Tanner Kemp threw for four touchdown
passes, and Nick Merhish intercepted a pass and returned it for a
score as Hillcrest whipped Lehi in a non-region contest.

Lehi's best moment - Lehi QB Palmer Page threw short, completing 16
of 34 passes for only 120 yards. The Pioneers had just one first down
in the opening half. By that time, Hillcrest owned a 20-0 lead.

Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies started early, as Kemp hit
Bridger Dallimore on a 73-yard scoring pass to get the rout started.
Kemp and the Huskies had their best game of the season, both
offensively and defensively.

What we learned from this game - This was another disappointing
loss for Lehi, which has scored just three points so far this season.
The Pioneers may have trouble winning a game this season.

Next - Lehi starts Region 7 action at Timpanogos. Hillcrest will open
Region 4 play at
Pleasant Grove.

Aug. 28 - Springville 40, Lehi 3

Story of the game - Aaron Gray passed for two touchdowns and the
Springville defense held Lehi to 119 yards of offense and spanked the
Pioneers in a non-region game.

Lehi's best moment - The Pioneers were dominated for the second
straight week. The highlight? They scored. Garrett Bayles connected on
a 35-yard field goal. It didn't help, but it might have done something for
Lehi's morale.

Springville's best moment - The Red Devils scored on virtually every
possession in the first half and had a 35-0 lead at intermission. Zack
Gardanier blocked a punt in the second half, which led to a safety. The
35-point rule kept the clock moving in the second half.

What we learned from this game - Lehi is clearly not the same team
as last year. The opening of Westlake has taken a lot of its talent, and
the Pioneers are rebuilding.

Next - Lehi will play Hillcrest in its home opener. Springville travels to
Mountain View.

Aug. 21 - Riverton 44, Lehi 0

Story of the game - Dillon Draper scored four touchdowns and Jordan
Zymola had a 67-yard scamper for a score, but Riverton's defense stole
the show with five interceptions and bounced Lehi in each team's
season opener.

Lehi's best moment - This was a tough opener for the Pioneers, who
don't have the depth they had last year and went up against a good 5A
team. There wasn't much good to report. Fortunately, Riverton will
probably be the best team Lehi will face this year.

Riverton's best moment - Riverton led 19-0 at halftime, then opened it
up in the third quarter. Besides the interceptions, the Silverwolves also
blocked a punt.

What we learned from this game - Last year, coach Derrick Payton
knew he had a young team and started the season with four home
games. This year, Lehi is young again because of the opening of
Westlake.

Next - Lehi travels to play Springville. Riverton goes to American Fork.
