March 4 - West Jordan 47, Lehi 37

Story of the game: Reyes Gallegos scored 16 points and Mason
Sawyer had 15 as West Jordan edged Lehi in the quarterfinals of
the 5A state tournament.

Lehi's key moment: The Pioneers lost guard Jacob Obioma to
an ankle injury in the third quarter, and that hurt their chances.
Will Walker had 10 points and six rebounds. Josh Scott had
seven points and 10 rebounds.

West Jordan's key moment: Gallegos led the Jags on a 12-2
run midway through the second quarter that gave them a 28-21
lead. After that, guard Mason Sawyer saw the ball most, and he
hit a key basket and two free throws that stopped a Lehi rally.
Jordan Weirick added 12 points.

Statistical notes: West Jordan was 12-17 from the free-throw
line; Lehi was just 2-4. Lehi's 37 points was a season low.
Obioma finished with seven points.

What we learned from this game: Lehi lost a tough battle that
might have gone differently had Obioma stayed available.

Next: West Jordan will play Davis March 6 in one 5A semifinal
game.
Lehi finished the season 15-8.

March 2 - Lehi 50, Brighton 33

Story of the game: Jacob Obioma scored 17 points as Lehi used
a pair of 11-0 runs to surprise Brighton in the opening round of
the 5A state tournament.

Lehi's best moment: Obioma, Will Walker and reserve Josh Scott
controlled the key, scoring 19 of Lehi's 28 first-half points. The
Pioneers had a 20-point lead in the third quarter and were really
never threatened. Walker had 11 points and Scott had six.

Brighton's best moment: The Bengals didn't play their best and,
after earning an 8-4 lead, had trouble with Lehi's inside attack.
Brighton had stretches where its speed and quickness paid
dividends, but it had no answer to Lehi.

Statistical notes: Lehi was 11-17 from the free-throw line;
Brighton was just 2-7. Neil Richards led Brighton with seven
points. The Bengals' 33 points was easily a season low.

What we learned from this game: Lehi looked good in claiming
this win and Region 4 finished the day with a 3-0 record.

Next: Lehi advanced to play West Jordan March 4. Brighton is
done for the season.

as Lehi downed Timpanogos and earned the final playoff spot
from Region 4.

stole the ball and dunked it. That inspired the rest of the team and
Lehi went on a 16-3 run that was the difference in the game.
Obioma finished with 10 points.

Timpanogos' best moment: The Thunderbirds trailed most of the
game, but Parker Brown's steal and dunk tied the game. But it

that game is done for the season.

Next: Lehi finishes the regular season at Timpanogos Feb. 24.
Pleasant Grove plays at Spanish Fork the same night.

mid-season slide. Lehi was 15-25 from the free-throw line;

catching up to Juan Diego early, but they outscored them 14-8 in
the final quarter to knot the game at 42-42. Jacob Obiamo added
10 for Lehi.

Juan Diego's best moment: This is not the same team, not since

dramatically with him in the lineup.

added 18 as Lehi used offense to pull away from Springville in
the second half and claim the non-region home victory.

Lehi's best moment: Lehi led 48-40 after three quarters, but blew
the game open in the final period. Springville never really tried to
foul to get back into it.

Springville's best moment: The Red Devils played well in the first
quarter, and had the game tied at 17. Marsman led the way with
16 points. Springville remained winless at 0-3.

Statistical notes: After Springville's big first quarter, the Red
Devils never matched that again against Lehi's defense. Mua
Faleao had nine points for Lehi, all on three-point baskets.

What we learned from this game: Lehi is 3-1 and has some
impressive wins. This team could be one to watch in the near
future.

Next: Lehi has a home game against Hurricane on Friday (Dec.
12). Springville returns home to take on Cedar the same night.

Dec. 2 - Lehi 56, Mountain View 50

Story of the game: Corey Smith and Will Walker each scored 17
points, but it was Jacob Obioma's steal and one-handed, athletic
dunk with 1:30 left that gave Lehi momentum and the Pioneers
rallied to edge Mountain View in a non-region home game.

Lehi's best moment: Lehi never led until Obiama's play, which
thrilled the home crowd and changed the game. The Pioneers hit
6-of-8 free throws down the stretch to claim their first win of the
season.

Mountain View's best moment: The Bruins' 6-foot-8 center, Scott
Moake, led MV with 20 points. The Bruins took a 12-6 lead and
always seemed to hold a narrow edge until late. Adam Lewis had
11 points for MV.

Statistical notes: Lehi outscored MV 21-9 in the fourth quarter,
which erased a six-point deficit. Lehi hit 11-15 free throws, while
MV was 19-30.

What we learned from this game: Coach Craig Gladwell told the
Provo Herald that the Pioneers' depth played a role. Lehi had
several players in foul trouble.

Lehi's best moment: The Pioneers played tough against the
defending 4A champs the entire game. Lehi led 30-29 in the third
quarter on a basket by Jacob Obioma, who led the team with 13

with a basket to give Provo the lead again. The Bulldogs never
trailed after that, and managed to hit enough free throws down
the stretch to hang on to the win.
