Oct. 23 - Highland 42, Murray 0
Story of the game - Nick Orchard passed for two touchdowns and
Sione Inukihaangana scored twice as Highland had no trouble with
Murray, padding its statistics in the Region 6 win.
Murray's best moment - The Spartans season is finally over. Keeping
the game close, which they did in the first quarter, was probably
Murray's high moment.
Highland's best moment - Highland led just 7-0 after the first quarter,
but Bridger Walzer, Toi Taufa and Inukihaangana picked up TDs before
halftime to give the Rams a comfortable halftime lead. Latu Heimuli
and Sam Nielson keyed the Rams' second shutout in their last three
games.
What was learned from the game - It was a long, disappointing
season for Murray. Coach Dan Aragon needs to find the positives and
find a way to boost morale. If the program doesn't improve, Murray will
find itself playing a series of "homecoming" games in the future.
Next - Murray's season is done. Highland advances to play at Bountiful
in a first-round 4-A playoff game.

Oct. 15 - Olympus 37, Murray 7
Story of the game - QB Spencer Harris passed for two touchdowns
and ran for another as Olympus built a 23-0 halftime lead and went on
to beat Murray in a Region 6 game.
Murray's best moment - Murray was down 37-0 until Jud Sacco
scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Olympus' best moment - The Titans' offense was working for the
second straight week. Harris had a good game and backup QB Lance
McGavin got to play. He also threw a TD pass.
What was learned from the game - This was probably Murray's final
chance to win a game this year. Murray scored one TD or less in six of
its nine games.
Next - Murray travels to play Highland. Olympus goes to Cottonwood.

Oct. 10 - West 41, Murray 19
Story of the game - RB Tana Afeaki rushed for 204 yards on 21 carries
and West took advantage of eight Murray fumbles (they lost four) en
route to a decisive Region 6 home victory.
Murray's' best moment - Dee Hamala returned another kickoff for a
touchdown (his second this season). Tyler Prestwich was a bruising
runner, and had 55 yards on 14 carries, including a TD. Murray had 110
total yards in the second half, compared to West's 59.
West's best moment - It was a cold night, and West was helped as
the Spartans fumbled frequently in the first half. On West's first
offensive play, Afeaki ran 75 yards before being stopped at Murray's
1-yard line. West rolled up almost 300 yards of offense by halftime and
held a 34-7 lead.
What was learned from the game - Murray is not a bad team. It just
self-destructed at times. It also has no real passing attack. The
Spartans need to try to stay in games. They can be competitive.
Next - Murray has its home finale against Olympus. West travels to play
Highland.
Links - There was no media coverage of the game, as it was never
reported. Statistics and game information was obtained after securing
the film from coach Schreiter.
Oct. 3 - Granger 26, Murray 7
Story of the game - RB Manu Samani rushed for 201 yards on 21
carries, including two touchdowns, to lift Granger to 26-7 and ruin the
Spartans homecoming, as well as their best chance to earn a win this
year.
Murray's best moment - The Spartans took the lead, thrilling the
crowd, when QB Nate Davis hit Travis Goettsche on a 2-yard TD pass.
Murray's defense was also impressive as the Spartans kept the lead
throughout the first half

Granger's' best moment - Coach Jonny Matich said nothing to the players at halftime. The Lancers rejuvenated themselves, scoring
TDs on their first two drives of the second half. Leka Sime added a score on an interception return.
What was learned from the game - This might have been the Spartans best chance to earn a win this year. Murray was held to less
than 10 points for the fifth time in seven games.
Next - Murray travels up I-15 to play West. Granger has a game at Olympus.

Sept. 26 - Cyprus 16, Murray 14
Story of the game - George Thomas rushed for 125 yards and scored two touchdowns, and Andy Rodriguez kicked an 18-yard field goal
with nine seconds remaining to lift Cyprus to an exciting homecoming win over Murray in a Region 6 game.
Murray's best moment - This might have been the Spartans' best game this season. Dee Hamala and Tyler Prestwich scored
touchdowns for Murray, which equaled its best point total this season. Losing is never easy, but the Spartans have hope.
Cyprus' best moment - Trailing 14-13 with the hometown crowd on its feet, the Pirates drove down to the 1-yard line before Rodriguez
split the uprights. It was a perfect way for the home team to end the evening. It also gave Rodriguez a chance to make up for a missed
extra point earlier.
What was learned from the game - Coach Dan Aragon had to see improvement in his team's play. In three of the team's six games, the
Spartans have been competitive. The other games were against likely playoff teams. The rest of the season could be interesting.
Next - Murray returns home for a game against Granger. Cyprus will play at West.

Sept. 19 - East 34, Murray 7
Story of the game - Danny Tuai passed for two touchdowns and John Webb and Edward Fakahafua took care of the running game as
the Leopards had no trouble beating Murray in a Region 6 game.
East's best moment - Offensively, the Leopards controlled the ball on the ground. Tuai only passed six times. Simote Iloa, Steve
Tuikolovatu and Joe Pupouniva were East's stars on defense.
Murray's best moment - Information is limited about this game. How the Spartans scored was not available.
What we learned from this game - There was little doubt who would win this game, as East will likely challenge for the region title and
Murray might not win a game.
Next - Murray travels to play Cyprus. East has another road game at Granger.

Sept. 12 - Cottonwood 42, Murray 0
Story of the game - RB Isi Sofele ran for three touchdowns and caught a pass for another as the Colts had an easy time beating Murray
in their Region 6 opener. The Colts started reserve QB Crosby Jensen in the game.
Murray's best moment - The Spartans knew they would need a miracle to win this game, and the defense fared well in the first half to
keep the game close (14-0 at halftime). It's interesting that these two schools are just two miles apart but there is such a difference
between them.
Cottonwood's best moment - The Colts opened the second half when Jensen connected with Sofele on a 60-yard TD pass, then hit Alo
Moli for a 36-yard score to open up the game. Jensen was 6-for-10 for 145 yards for Cottonwood.
What was learned from the game - This was a "name the score" type of game. Cottonwood won it handily last year and seemed to take
it easy on their neighbor. The Colts are a candidate to win the 4-A title. Murray is obviously rebuilding.
Next - Murray has another home game, taking on East. Cottonwood will travel to Cyprus. Both are Region 6 games.

Sept. 5 - Taylorsville 19, Murray 7
Story of the game - It was the Nate Azera show, as the junior RB ran for 229 yards on 23 carries (that's almost 10.0 yards per carry) to lift
Taylorsville to its first win of the season, 19-7, over rival Murray.
Murray's best moment - Trailing 10-0, Murray got a short TD run by RB Brandt Anderson. Despite giving up big rushing yardage, the
Spartans were still in the game. The offense has yet to pose a serious threat and has been responsible for just one TD in each of
Murray's three games.
Taylorsvile's best moment - Azera had two TD runs - of 4 and 53 yards. Taylorsville led just 10-7 at halftime, but Azera's 53-yarder broke
it open in the fourth quarter and the Warriors also got a safety.
What was learned from the game - This was a game between winless teams and Taylorsville earned it. Murray starts Region 6 play
and will likely be the underdog in every one of them. The Spartans need a spark. It may have to come in practice - since powers
Cottonwood and East probably won't help.
Next week - Murray has a home game against unbeaten Cottonwood. Taylorsville has a non-region game at West Jordan.

Tribune's story, click here.
Aug. 29 - Hillcrest 19, Murray 14
Story of the game - Hillcrest QB Kolby Koplin hit Bridger Dallimore on a fourth-down play that resulted in a late touchdown as Hillcrest
edged Murray in a non-region game. Koplin's 11-yard TD run was the winning score.
Murray's best moment - Dee Hamala had a 99-yard kickoff return for the Spartans. The offense struggled most of the game, and only
scored on a 7-yard run by Jud Sacco.
Hillcrest's best moment - Murray took a one-point lead with 3:51 left. Hillcrest faced 4th-and-19 when Koplin found Dallimore on a
30-yard pass. Koplin then hit Coby Brklacich, Kyle Maughn and Dallimore (again) to set up the winning score - and a 2-0 record.
What was learned from the game - Murray is 0-2, but coach Dan Aragon has seem some improvement over last year. This was a
winnable game, but Hillcrest made the big play when it needed it. Next week's game will be against another team that is struggling.
Next week - Murray will play at Taylorsville in a game between two winless teams. Hillcrest has a game at Copper Hills.

Aug. 22 - Logan 41, Murray 8
Story of the game - Logan QB Jeff Manning completed 15 of 28 passes for 306 yards and five TDs as the defending 3-A champion
whipped Murray. Logan reached the end zone every time it had the ball in the first half and took a 34-0 lead.
Murray's best moment - RB Brandt Anderson scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter, which capped a 68-yard drive, and it was their
only TD. Earlier, the Spartans' defense sacked Logan's backup QB for a safety.
Logan's best moment - The entire first half. The Grizzlies were never threatened. Manning engineered five flawless drives and showed
that the team's spread offense was in mid-season gear. Murray coach Dan Aragon called Manning a "stud," and said Logan runs the
best spread offense in the state.
What was learned from the game? - Murray was beaten by a better team. It's tough to open against such a team, but somebody had to
do it. The Spartans will know more about what they have when they play their next two games against "friendlier" competition. Logan
could beat a lot of 4-A schools.
Next - Murray goes on the road to take on Hillcrest. Logan will play host to Park City.
