Aug. 10 - Murray 3, Copper Hills 0

Story of the game: Megan Wessman, Lizzie Brown and Holly
Rietveld scored goals and Murray's two keepers turned back 10
shots to keep the Spartans from losing the momentum in their
season-opening win over Copper Hills.

Murray's highlights: Wessman gave Murray a 1-0 lead midway
through the first half on a penalty kick. The Spartans' keepers -
Katie Waterman and Jhani Williams did a nice job. Williams
grabbed several point-blank shot attempts before Murray finally
pulled away.

Copper Hills' highlights: The Grizzlies pressured Murray's net for
much of the second half, but were never able to score, despite
several great opportunities. CH coach Mike Shaughnessy said he
started a young team, and fatigue might have been a factor late in
the match.

Statistical notes: Murray made 3-18 shots. Copper Hills was 0-10.
CH player Melissa McNinch was hurt in the first half, and left the
game. Her status is uncertain. Brown, a defender, was moved to
forward, and scored a rare goal.

What we learned from this game: It was a beautiful day for
soccer, with the temperature in the mid-80s, and there was a nice
crowd at Murray Park to watch the match.
