March 2 - Sky View 46, Olympus 41
Story of the game: Kyler Carlsen and Brad Lenkersdorfer scored
eight points apiece and helped Sky View pull out to a 13-point lead
in the fourth quarter en route to a victory over Olympus in the first
round of the 4A state tournament.
Oly's best moment: This was a slow-paced, defensive game and
Oly couldn't match up. The Titans rallied to tie the game 25-15 after
three quarters, and then had another rally in the final minute, but it
was too late. Connor Brady had 13 points and Nicholas Paulos 12.
Sky View's best moment: The Bobcats put the game away by
going on a 16-3 run to start the fourth quarter. Sky View also did a
nice job rebounding, holding a 38-23 advantage on the glass,
including 10 offensive rebounds.
Statistical notes: Brady and Paulos each hit a pair of
three-pointers, but most came late in a furious rally. Will Watkins
had a season-low two points. Lenkersdorfer had a game-high nine
rebounds and added two blocked shots.
What we learned from this game: Oly lost a big game last week to
Bountiful, and the UHSAA's new tourney format put the Titans on
the road, where they drew a tough squad. Sky View played well and
made Oly play its game.

Feb. 23 - Bountiful 62, Olympus 58
Story of the game: Nick Williams and McKay LaSalle scored 15
points apiece and Bountiful hit just enough free throws down the
stretch to edge Olympus and win the Region 6 championship.
Oly's best moment: The Titans led the entire first half, but fell
behind in the final period and then tried to put together a furious
rally in front of its huge home crowd. Nicholas Paulos had 19
points and Connor Brady had 15.
Bountiful's best moment: LaSalle probably won the Region 6 MVP
with this win. The Braves went on a 7-0 run midway through the
final period to take a 51-43 lead, and then just had to make its free
throws.
Statistical notes: Oly shot just 37.8 percent, but more than of its
shots were three-pointers. Paulos was just 5-17. Oly had a 31-21
rebounding advantage. Bountiful shot just under 50 percent, but
was only 2-10 from three-point land.
What we learned from this game: This was Oly's chance and the
Titans couldn't win it. This victory decided the region title and also
sends Oly up to Sky View for a tough 4A state tournament opener.

Story of the game: Connor Brady scored 21 points to lift Olympus
to a comeback win over Highland in a Region 6 matchup.
Oly's best moment: The Titans led 27-25 at halftime, but then fell
apart and trailed by seven going into the final period. Brady had a
big night and nailed three treys. Nick Paulos had 12 points and Oly
did a nice job rebounding.
Highland's best moment: The Rams got the home crowd going by
outscoring Oly 16-5 in the third period to take a 42-35 advantage.
Nate Fakahafua led three players in double figures with 17 points.
Statistical notes: Highland shot 16-36 from the field and was
credited with 16 assists. Hmmmm. Oly had 13 turnovers; Highland
had eight. Will Watkins was credited with six assists. Lew Evans
had two three-pointers for the Rams.
What we learned from this game: This was a tough win, but any
game at Highland is going to be that way. Brady led Oly's
comeback and the Titans' experience really showed.

Feb. 16 - Olympus 91, Woods Cross 60
Story of the game: Nick Paulos tied his season high with 26
points as Olympus rallied from an early deficit to rout Woods Cross
in a Region 6 game.
Oly's best moment: Trailing 6-0 early, the Titans scored 19 of next
21 points to get rolling. Oly got into a track meet, shot 59 percent for
the game, and put up 55 points in the second half. Connor Brady
had 13 points and Manny Riak 12.
WX's best moment: The Wildcats grabbed the early lead, then fell
behind and only shot 1-11 from three-point land so couldn't catch
up. Ryan Anderson scored 20 points and Cory Gerrard 14.
Statistical notes: The 91-point effort was easily's Oly's season
high. The Titans shot 9-16 from three-point land and routed Woods
Cross on the boards, 40-14. On the down side, Oly had 22
turnovers compared to nine for Woods Cross.
What we learned from this game: After putting up just 39 points
against Tooele, Oly got its offense going. Paulos had a great game
and pulled down 11 rebounds, too.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. For the Salt Lake Tribune box

Feb. 12 - Olympus 39, Tooele 38 (OT)
Story of the game: Sam Williams had a season-high 15 points as
Olympus survived a stern Region 6 test from Tooele in overtime.
Oly's best moment: The Titans led most of the game, and held a
31-24 margin going into the final quarter. Oly's outside shooting
racked up seven three-pointers, but there wasn't much good news
to report.
Tooele's best moment: This could have been the biggest upset of
the season. The Buffaloes missed a three-pointer with three
seconds left that could have won the game. Wade Memmott led
with 11 points, including three treys.
Statistical notes: Only 11 free throws were attempted in this game.
Oly's 39 points was its season low. Tooele held Nicholas Paulos
to just six points.
What we learned from this game: Oly survived a scare and went
to overtime for the first time this season. The Titans finish the
regular season with three difficult opponents.

Feb. 9 - Olympus 66, East 45
Story of the game: Nicholas Paulos scored 16 points and Ben
Sonntag tied his season high with 15 as Olympus pulled away
from East with a big third quarter in a Region 6 game.
Oly's best moment: The Titans dominated, rolling to a 13-5
first-quarter lead and then building the lead to 25 points in the third
period. Connor Brady added 10 points and Will Watkins had nine.
East's best moment: The Leopards started slowly and trailed from
the beginning. Aaron Steffensen led a fourth-quarter rally, but it was
too little. Steffenson finished with 14 points. Parker Van Dyke had
10
Statistical notes: Sonntag has been a force lately and is averaging
12.2 ppg over the last five games. Paulos had four three-pointers.
Steffensen and Dakota Marsden had two each for East.
What we learned from this game: This was a good, quality win for
Oly. The Titans dominated East like a top 4A team should. Oly was
ready after earning a two-point win at home earlier this season.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here. For the Salt Lake Tribune box
score, click here.
Feb. 2 - Olympus 83, Stansbury 62
Story of the game: Connor Brady scored a career-high 30 points
as Olympus built a big lead early and downed Stansbury in a
Region 6 contest.
Oly's best moment: Brady had a big night, and even hit three treys.
Ben Sonntag added 15 points. The Titans led 56-44 after three
quarters, and then poured it on in the final period and won handily.
Stansbury's best moment: Ty Barton scored 22 points and Taylor
Hunt 18 as Stansbury stayed with Olympus in the second and third
periods. The Stallions had their offense working, but couldn't catch
up to the Titans.
Statistical notes: Oly's 83-point effort was - by far - its season high.
Reggie Roberts added 14 for Stansbury. Ten players scored for Oly.
What we learned from this game: Olympus gets back on the
winning track, but it helps that the Titans are playing the last-place
team. Brady had a night to remember.

the Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt
Lake Tribune.
Jan. 29 - Bountiful 54, Olympus 51

drained 6-of-6 free throws in last 30 seconds of the game to help
the Braves hold off Olympus and gain sole possession of first
place in Region 6.
Oly's best moment: The Titans rallied behind Manny Riak, who
had 14 points and never missed a shot. Connor Brady added 12.
Sam WIlliams started in place of Joe Bourne and had a nice floor
game.
Bountiful's best moment: LaSalle hit two treys to start the game,
and the Braves' full-court defense forced several early turnovers.
Bountiful's Dan Prawitt had two big plays at the end - a rebound
basket and a nice pass that led to another score - and that made a
big difference.
Statistical notes: Oly had 16 turnovers, compared to just eight for
Bountiful. Nick Paulos had a off night, shooting just 3-9 from the
field. Bountiful shot 12-15 from the free-throw line, while Oly was
just 3-6.
What we learned from this game: The Titans lost Bourne and
Spencer Harris to injury this week, and coach Matt Barnes said
they played "passive." Oly will get another chance in the
regular-season finale.

Jan. 26 - Olympus 55, Highland 41

Brady had 13, but it was Olympus' defense in the third quarter that

Oly's best moment - The Titans led 23-18 at halftime, but
outscored Highland 13-1 in the pivotal third period to take a
15-point lead. Oly played tough defense and connected on 22-27

rallied nicely in the second quarter to cut Oly's lead to five points.

the last eight minutes. Nate Fakahafua and Sam Orchard had 14
points each.
Statistical notes - Nate Fakahafua made three treys, the most in
any game this year. Joe Bourne and Nicholas Paulos had eight
points for Olympus. Highland has lost four straight road game.
What we learned from this game - Olympus didn't play its best
game, but still won because it played great defense against a
defensive team. Oly will need a better effort at Highland, however.

D-News story, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune box score,

Jan. 22 - Olympus 50, Woods Cross 44
Story of the game - Ben Sonntag scored a season-high 13 points
as Olympus built a comfortable lead and then held off Woods
Cross in a Region 6 game.
Oly's best moment - The Titans led the entire game, but it was
close (22-20) at intermission. Oly blew the game open in the third
period, and then held on in the final period. Connor Brady added
12 points and Nicholas Paulos had 11.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats made a nice rally, cutting the
margin to three points late in the game. Ryan Anderson had 15
points and Mark Evans had 14.
Statistical notes - Oly shot 11-21 from the free-throw line, while
Woods Cross was 7-8. Oly made five three-pointers. Woods Cross
had one. Steven Sperry had seven rebounds for the Wildcats.
What we learned from this game - Oly avoided an upset attempt.
Woods Cross played without its top player - Austin Bankowski -
who was injured. Oly might have thought this would be an easy
win, but WX gave the Titans a good game.

Jan. 19 - Olympus 73, Tooele 51
Story of the game - Connor Brady scored 24 points and Nicholas
Paulos had 18 as Olympus built a huge lead early and downed
Tooele in a Region 6 contest.
Oly's best moment - The Titans came out with a purpose, jumping
to an 18-4 first-quarter margin and they were never threatened. The
lead was 28 points at one time. Paulos had five of Oly's nine
three-pointers.
Tooele's best moment - The Buffaloes rallied in the fourth quarter,
scoring almost half of their points in that eight-minute span. Levi
Vernon was the top scorer with a season-high 11 points.
Statistical notes - Brady's 24-point effort was a season high.
Tooele didn't make a three-pointer. Tooele had 10 players reach
the scoring column.
What we learned from this game - The Titans hadn't really played
well the last two games, and this game had the possibility of an
upset. It didn't happen because Oly played one of its best games of
the season.
Links: The Deseret News had a reporter at this game. To read the
D-News story, click here. There was no report in the Salt Lake
Tribune.
Jan. 15 - Olympus 41, East 39
Story of the game - Nicholas Paulos scored 20 points, including
the game-winning basket with one second left, to lift Olympus past
upset-minded East in a Region 6 game.
Oly's best moment - Paulos was a one-man scoring show for
Olympus, and the Titans were held to just two three-point baskets.
Andrew Pellatt and Joe Bourne had six points apiece.
East's best moment - The Leopards stayed close, and made a
nice run at the end to almost pull off the win. Nick Sessions led
East with nine points, but Dakota Marsden and Jack Larson had
six points each.
Statistical notes - East had five three-pointers. Connor Brady and
Will Watkins were held to season low point totals. Oly's 41 points
was also a season low.
What we learned from this game - East almost pulled off the
upset last year, and this was a virtual repeat. Paulos is a senior
and playing great basketball. He kept that upset from happening.

Jan. 8 - Olympus 58, Stansbury 51
Story of the game - Nicholas Paulos scored 22 points and Will
Watkins added 15 as Olympus held off Stansbury in a
closer-than-expected Region 6 game.

offense. Ben Sonntag and Joe Bourne added six points each.
Stansbury's best moment - The Stallions' outside shooters -
Reggie Roberts and Taylor Hunt - had three treys each. Colton
Barkdull had his second straight good game, with 15 points.
Statistical notes - Oly shot 13-22 from the free-throw line.
Stansbury was 7-9. Stansbury had six treys, while Oly had five.
What we learned from this game - This was not Oly's best effort,
and they might have overlooked Stansbury. Fortunately, it did not
cost the Titans.

Jan. 5 - Olympus 66, West Jordan 56
Story of the game: Nicholas Paulos bombed away from outside,
scoring a season-high 25 points, as Olympus built a 20-point lead
and then held off West Jordan in a non-region game.
Oly's best moment: The Titans broke the game open by
outscoring West Jordan 20-9 in the second quarter. Paulos
dunked to give Oly its biggest margin (20), but then the Titans
committed 10 turnovers to let the Jags back in the game. Oly hit
7-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
West Jordan's best moment: The Jaguars trailed 50-30, but put
together a furious rally that cut the margin to just five points in the
final minute. Andre Ashton led with 21 points and Jordan Pryor had
14.
Statistica notes: Oly hit eight three-pointers and shot 14-16 from
the free-throw line for the game. Ashton had a pair of threes for
West Jordan.
What we learned from this game: Oly captured its fifth straight win
but coach Barnes wasn't happy that the Titans let West Jordan
back into the game. Oly had trouble holding onto the ball when the
Jaguars increased the pace.

Dec. 29 - Olympus 76, Taylorsville 50
Story of the game: Nicholas Paulos scored 21 points and helped
Olympus dominate the second and fourth quarters, and that was
enough to bury Taylorsville in a non-region game.
Oly's best moment: The Titans outscored Taylorsville 21-3 in the
second quarter to take a 17-point halftime lead. After the Warriors
rallied, Oly put it away with a 31-point effort in the final period.
Connor Brady added 18 points.
Taylorsville's best moment: Stevie McCloyn led Taylorsville with
19 points, while Dylan Metters had 12. The Warriors had a nice
rally in the third period but fell apart at the end.
Statistical notes: Oly made 12 three-point baskets, led by Paulos
with four. Taylorsville hit 12-14 free throws. Oly was 8-13.
What we learned from this game: The Titans won their fourth
straight and have a tough game at West Jordan before opening the
Region 6 season.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 18 - Olympus 50, Skyline 26
Story of the game: Connor Brady scored 16 points and Nicholas
Paulos had 10, and that was all Olympus needed to bury rival
Skyline in a non-region game.
Oly's best moment: The Titans went into their rivals gym and
embarrassed them. Oly led 25-12 at halftime and kept the
pressure on. When Skyline got within 10 points, Oly went on a 14-0
run.
Skyline's best moment: The Eagles left their offense at home.
They trailed from the start. The closest they came was 32-22 in the
third quarter when Jaden Jackson nailed a three-pointer. Jackson
and Brian Orr led with six points.
Statistical notes: The 26 points was Skyline's lowest offensive
output in many years. Jackson, Jake Osterloh and James Tingey
had three-pointers for Skyline. Oly emptied its bench and nine
players scored.
What we learned from this game: Oly improved to 6-1, including a
win over top-ranked Bingham, but this has to be the high point.
Remember, Oly beat Skyline in football, too. This was a proud
moment for Oly fans.

Dec. 15 - Olympus 68, Bingham 63
Story of the game: Ben Sonntag came off the bench to nail a
couple of key free throws, and teammates Joe Bourne and
Nicholas Paulos made several more as Olympus held off
previously unbeaten Bingham in a non-region game.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners trailed most of the game, but
rallied late in the third quarter. Bingham got big shots from Shad
Sommerville and Nate Gisberger to cut the lead to two with three
minutes left, but couldn't get closer. Sommerville led with 23 points.
Oly's best moment: Oly shot well (53 percent) and got a great
game from Paulos, who finished with 22 points and was a perfect
(6-6) from the free-throw line. Oly built a 15-point lead in the third
quarter before Bingham rallied.
Statistical notes: Clifford was in foul trouble most of the game.
Michael Arnell and Sommerville fouled out. Bingham was 4-22
from three-point land. Rebounding was about even.
What we learned from this game: This was Bingham's first loss,
but it wasn't a bad one. The Miners have all kinds of leadership, but
need someone other than their big three players to score.

Dec. 11 - Olympus 61, Murray 51
Story of the game: Nicholas Paulos found his shooting stroke,
scoring 23 points, as Olympus rallied to beat Murray in a
non-region game between former region rivals.
Oly's best moment: Oly outscored Murray 20-10 in the second
quarter to take a seven-point lead. Paulos had four three-pointers,
and that opened up the inside for Will Watkins (12 points) and
Connor Brady (10).
Murray's best moment: The Spartans didn't go down quietly. They
battled in the second half behind David Collette and Justin
Esgarciga, and were always close. Collette had 13 points and
Esgarciga 11.
Statistical notes: Murray hit just 10-19 free throws. Olympus was
19-27. Paulos and Spencer Harris led Oly in rebounding with six
each. Wyatt Woodard chipped in eight points for Murray.
What we learned from this game: This was a good road win for
Murray in a tough atmosphere. The Titans' experience helped, and
their fans travel well, too.

Dec. 8 - Alta 59, Olympus 47
Story of the game: Kyle Davis scored 19 points and Jordan Brown
had 18 as Alta beat Olympus for the second straight year, handing
the Titans their first loss of the season, and on their home court.
Oly's best moment: The Titans' Nicholas Paulos seems back to
full strength, following an illness, and led Oly with 18 points,
including four treys. Oly had trouble matching up inside.
Alta's best moment: The game was tied 37-37 entering the fourth
quarter, but Alta went on an 11-0 spurt to quiet the home crowd.
Mitch Winter added 13 points, including a pair of three-pointers as
Alta gained another road win.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot about the same from the
free-throw line. Suprisingly, Paulos was the only Oly shooter to nail
a three-pointer. Alta ended up outscoring Oly 22-10 in the final
quarter.
What we learned from this game: The Titans' offensive and
defensive efforts were the worst this season. Oly's shooting has
not been very good, so there is plenty of room for improvement.

the Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune

Dec. 4 - Olympus 50, Box Elder 36
Story of the game - Will Watkins scored 16 points and Connor
Brady had 15, but it was the defense that stepped up, holding Box
Elder scoreless the last four minutes to claim a win that was close
than the score indicated.
Oly's best moment - The Titans led most of the game, but fell
behind 44-39 going into the fourth period. Oly rallied, and Watkins
hit a three-pointer to take the lead, and Box Elder never recovered.
Oly outscore Box Elder 21-2 in the final quarter.
Box Elder's best moment - Cody Eyre was the Bees' player of the
game. He made several great shots and finished with a team-high
13 points. Brant Mecham, the team's leading scorer, was 0-12
from the field.
What we learned from this game - Coach Matt Barnes said Oly's
experience (12 seniors on its huge roster) made a difference.
"They've been there before," Barnes said. Connor Brady added 15
points and Manny Riak had 10.

Dec. 1 - Olympus 67, Cottonwood 46
Story of the game - Manny Riak scored 17 points, and Connor
Brady and Joe Bourne had 15 apiece as Olympus jumped to a big
lead and handed Cottonwood a disappointing non-region loss in
the Colts' home opener.
Oly's best moment - The Titans played their game, and looked
good doing it. Oly had balanced scoring, and nailed eight
three-point baskets.
Cottonwood's best moment - The Colts fell behind by 14 points,
and couldn't make up the difference. What happened to Raymond
Chavez in this game? The Colts got 14 points from Korbin Dooley,
but needed more of an outside presence.
What we learned from this game - This was a good
confidence-building win for Olympus, who play a series of tough
games beginning next week. Oly is a clear favorite to reach the 4A
state tourney. Remember, this win was Oly's second straight over
a 5A team.

Nov. 24 - Olympus 66, Layton 54
Story of the game - Joe Bourne and Nicholas Paulos had 15
points each as Olympus put away Layton with a barrage of
three-pointers and handily won its season opener.
Oly's best moment - The Titans jumped to a 17-9 first-quarter lead
and were never seriously challenged after that. They built a
15-point lead and nine players eventually scored. Oly also showed
its depth.
Layton's best moment - The Lancers stayed with Oly in the
second quarter and then made a small rally near the end. Taylor
Butler had 11 points and Joey Day had 10.
What we learned from this game - This was a good win for Oly,
which is expected to be among the top teams in 4A this season.
The Titans have flooded their preseason schedule with 5A teams,
so it should prepare them for the region schedule.
