Oct. 5 - East 1, Olympus 0
Story of the game - Madeline Gochnour scored the winning goal
late in the match to lift East past Olympus and end the Titans'
hopes of reaching the postseason.
Oly's highlights - This was a physical game that could have gone
either way. Oly had several chances to score, but couldn't put the
ball into the net. It marked the first the time Oly was shut out all
season.
East's highlights - Goalkeeper Alex Noorda recorded the shutout,
and made several fine saves. Kendra Nelson was credited with
making a fine pass to Gochnour, who snuck the ball past Oly's
Becca Alley.
Statistical notes - The win avenged the earlier game, when Oly
won at East. This was "Senior Night" for Oly and seven seniors
were honored. Oly finished 5-3-1 at home, but lost its last two
matches.
What we learned from this game - The Titans had to win and
hope for a "miracle," according to coach Chris Madsen. Sadly, it
didn't happen and Oly's season ended. Afterward, coach Madsen
said he was rooting for East at state because he wanted to see
how Oly would compare.
Next - Oly finished the year with an 8-5-2 record. East plays host to
Tooele Oct. 7 for its "Senior Night."

brief, click here.
Sept. 30 - Woods Cross 4, Olympus 2
Story of the game - Tiffany Trost had two goals to lead Woods
Cross to an important Region 6 win and severely damage Oly's
postseason hopes.
Oly's highlights - Katie Schettler and Maddie Hart were credited for
scoring Oly's goals. The Titans trailed 2-1 at intermission. The four
goals given up was the most all season, and it came at an
inopportune time.
WX's highlights - The Wildcats are battling for second place in
region and picked up an important victory. Jen Anderson and
Aerika Andersen scored the team's other goals. Woods Cross
swept the season series with Oly.
Statistical notes - Oly is 0-4 against the second- and third-place
teams in the region, but is the only team to beat first-place East.
What we learned from this game - The Titans now must hope to
beat East, and then have Bountiful lose their final two matches,
which isn't likely to happen. Postseason appears unlikely.
Next - Oly plays host to East and has "Senior Day" activities Oct. 5.
Woods Cross has Bountiful at home the same day.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Sept. 28 - Olympus 8, Tooele 0
Story of the game - Savannah Spere had her second hat trick of
the season (both against Tooele) to lead Oly past Tooele and
keep its hopes alive for a postseason playoff berth.
Oly's highlights - The Titans took a 3-0 lead at intermission and
extended it throughout the second half. Keeper Becca Alley picked
up another shutout, even though she wasn't very busy. Annie
Omer, Lisa Christensen, Maddie Hart, Megan Oliphant and
Whitney Back had the other goals.
Tooele's highlights - The Buffaloes lost for the 12th straight time
and are losing Region games by an average score of about 8-1.
With the loss, the Buffs clinched the region cellar.
Statistical notes - Oly has outscored the Tooele County schools
26-2. Spere and Back have emerged as Oly's top scorers.
What we learned from this game - These last two wins have
been counted upon, and Oly still needs to win one or both of its
final two matches to make the playoffs. It won't be easy as WX and
East are the region's top two teams.
Next - Oly has a home match against Woods Cross Sept. 30.
Tooele travels to Highland.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Sept. 23 - Olympus 4, Stansbury 1
Story of the game - Kelcie Josephson scored twice and
Savannah Spere and Whitney Back had a goal apiece as Oly
grabbed the lead early and claimed a comfortable Region 6 home
win over Stansbury.
Oly's highlights - Josephson picked up her two goals early. The
Titans led 3-0 at halftime, but had trouble getting shots past
Stansbury goalie Kelsey Johnson after that. Oly keeper Becca Alley
had a nice game and was rarely tested.
Stansbury's highlights - The Stallions arrived at the game site late
and had trouble adjusting once the match started. Their only goal
came late and was a gift that caromed off an Oly player. with little
offense, Johnson's play was the team's most memorable.
Statistical notes - Oly dominated and kept the ball mostly in
Stansbury territory. The Titans had many more shots on goal. Oly
had won 8-0 earlier this year at Stansbury. The Titans improved
5-1-1 at home. This was their first home match since Aug. 31.
What we learned from this game - It was a comfortable win, but
the Titans didn't feel good about it. Their passing was subpar and
no player felt jubilant afterward. Better play will be needed,
especially in the final two games, to reach the postseason.
Next - Oly travels to Tooele Sept. 28. Stansbury plays host to
Woods Cross.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game, but I was
there. To read my game story, click here. For the Deseret News
brief, click here.
Sept. 21 - Olympus 2, Highland 2 (tie)
Story of the game - Savannah Spere's two goals gave Oly a
chance, but the Titans couldn't push across another goal in two
extra sessions and settled for a tie with Highland in a Region 6
match.
Oly's highlights - Spere had one goal in each half as this match
stayed close throughout. The tie, however, didn't help in the region
standings as Oly still stayed behind Bountiful (which lost to Woods
Cross today).
Highland's highlights - The Rams picked up goals from Ari Davis
and Kira Heesch. While the tie wasn't a win, it had to feel a whole
lot better than what happened the last time these teams played.
Statistical notes - There were only two matches tied in region play
all season, and Highland was involved in both. Oly is 1-2-1 in its
last four matches and has been outscored only 8-7.
What we learned from this game - This was a tough match, and
had to be frustrated. A win was needed for Oly to continue its
hopes of postseason berth.
Next - Oly has a must-win home match against Stansbury Sept.
23. Highland is at East the same day.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Sept. 16 - Bountiful 3, Olympus 2 (OT)
Story of the game - Eleina Medeiros scored her second goal of
the game to lift Bountiful past Olympus in a two-overtime battle.
Oly's highlights - Savannah Spere and Whitney Back scored for
the Titans, although one of them was actually a shot that went off a
Bountiful player. The Titans led 1-0 at intermission.
Bountiful's highlights - Medeiros and Kennedy Merrick scored the
Braves' goals. Bountiful had more shot attempts than the Titans,
but Oly keeper Becca Alley kept the Braves frustrated.
Statistical notes - This was the first of two straight overtime
matches for Oly. The loss dropped Oly's record to a still
respectable 2-2.
What we learned from this game - This win moved Woods Cross
into a second-place tie with Bountiful, and sent Oly plunging in the
standings. Only the top three teams make it to state. Oly had one
breakthrough win - at East - but needs another.
Next - Oly goes to Highland Sept. 21. Woods Cross travels to
Bountiful the same day.

Sept. 9 - Olympus 2, East 1
Story of the game - Savannah Spere and Whitney Back scored
first-half goals as Olympus surprised East and then hung on to
end the Leopards' long region win streak.
Oly's highlights - The Titans rallied back from a tough loss to
Woods Cross, but pull off their biggest upset. Goalie Becca Alley
had a good game, and the win set off a big post-game celebration
on East's home field.
East's highlights - Kendra Nelson scored the Leopards' only goal
in the second half, and East applied a lot of pressure, but couldn't
tie the match.
Statistical notes - East had a first-half penalty kick opportunity, but
missed it. The Leopards' region win streak ended at 27 games. It
also marked the first time they gave up more than one goal to an
opponent (besides Strongville).
What we learned from this game - This was the middle game of
three tough matches, and the only one Oly would win. Still, Oly is
4-2 in region at the midway point.
Next - Olympus goes to Bountiful Sept. 16. East plays at Tooele
Sept. 14.
Links - There was no local media coverage of this game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Sept. 7 - Woods Cross 2, Olympus 1
Story of the game - Jen Anderson and Aliyah Miller each had a
goal as Woods Cross dominated most of the match, and then
held off Olympus in a Region 6 matchup.
Oly's highlights - The Titans couldn't penetrate the Wildcats'
defense until the final seven minutes when Savannah Spere
scored. Oly had several other opportunities after that, but couldn't
get the tying score.
WX's highlights - Anderson's goal came early in the match and
Woods Cross had many more opportunities, but couldn't get the
ball past Becca Alley until Miller's score.
Statistical notes - The Titans didn't have many shots on goal as
usual. Woods Cross was playing an amazing stretch of the
defense. The goal the Wildcats gave up here was the only one in
four games.
What we learned from this game - Oly almost made this
winnable game, but fell just short despite an impressive
late-game rally.
Next - Oly plays at East Sept. 9. Woods Cross goes to Bountiful
the same day.
Links - The Salt Lake Tribune had a reporter at this game. To read
the Tribune story, click here. For the Deseret News brief, click here.
Aug. 31 - Olympus 6, Tooele 1
Story of the game - Savannah Spere's hot streak continued as
she scored three times in Oly's Region 6 win over Tooele.
Oly's highlights - Lisa Christensen, Sam Stapley and Whitney
Back also found the net to help Oly to a 5-0 lead at intermission
back on its home field.
Tooele's highlights - Stacie Medley scored for the Buffaloes and
allowed them to escape the shutout. Tooele was coming off a
15-0 loss to Bountiful.
Statistical notes - Oly played great defense again and just
missed another shutout. The team played its last home game in
almost a month.
What we learned from this game - Oly ended the easier portion of
its schedule with another resounding win and is among the
Region 6 leaders.
Next - Oly has a week off before going to Woods Cross Sept. 7.
Tooele has Highland at home Sept. 2.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Aug. 26 - Olympus 8, Stansbury 0
Story of the game - Whitney Back and Lisa Christensen scored
twice as Oly came back from its first loss of the season to whip
Stansbury in its first road game.
Oly's highlights - This had to be a proud moment. The Titans
scored three goals in the first half and added five more later.
Maddie Hanks, Savannah Spere, Taylor Dalebout and Whitney
King added their first goals of the season in the win.
Stansbury's highlights - The Stallions dropped to 3-3 and were
coming off a win over their rival, Tooele. The defeat may have
affected them because it was the first of three straight shutout
losses.
Statistical notes - This was a breakout game for Spere, who
would become the team's top scorer. Besides the one goal, she
also had four assists. The eight goals tied for the team's season
high this season.
What we learned from this game - Oly came back - in a big way -
and moved to 2-1 in region with two impressive victories. Keeper
Becca Alley got was credited with another shutout.
Next - Oly has Tooele at home Aug. 31. Stansbury is at Woods
Cross the same day.

Aug. 19 - Olympus 3, Highland 0
Story of the game - Kelcie Josephson and Lisa Christensen
scored goals, and Becca Alley recorded her first shutout of the
season, as Oly opened Region 6 play with a convincing win over
Highland.
Oly's highlights - The Titans' defense continued their fantastic
play, blanking their rival just two days after Highland put up eight
goals on Hunter. Josephson had two goals, which were her first of
the year.
Highland's highlights - The Rams suffered their first loss, and
shut out for the first of three times on the season.
Statistical notes - This was Oly's third straight win over Highland,
and gave the Titans a 1-0 start in region play. It was also the first of
three shutouts Alley would have on the year.
What we learned from this game - The season is starting nicely
for coach Chris Madsen and the TItans. The defense is far and
away better than expected. Josephson also emerged as a
potential offensive threat.
Next - Oly has Bountiful at home on Aug. 24. Highland has East at
home Aug. 26.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Aug. 14 - Olympus 1, Orem 1 (tie)
Story of the game - Whitney Back scored in the final minute of
regulation, and the Titans held off Orem in overtime to force their
first tie of the season.
Oly's highlights - The Titans were shut out until Back gave the
home crowd a thrill with the team's only score - just when a loss
seemed likely.
Orem's highlights - Tatiana Monsen scored her first goal of the
season in the first half, and Orem held the lead until the game's
final seconds. Orem dropped to 1-0-1 on the season.
Statistical notes - Orem finished 10-6-1 on the year and made the
4A state tournament. The Titans' one-goal effort tied its season
low and the closest they they came to being blanked until the final
game of the season.
What we learned from this game - While the defense has played
better than expected, the offense has yet to come along. Oly was
lucky to pull out a draw in this match.
Next - Oly opens Region 6 play with another home game - against
rival Highland - on Aug. 19. Orem takes on Lone Peak Aug. 17.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Aug. 13 - Olympus 2, Park City 1
Story of the game - Lisa Christensen and Whitney Back each
scored goals, and the Oly defense came through again as the
Titans held off Park City in a non-region game.
Oly's highlights - The Titans took a 1-0 in the first half and won on
their home field for the second straight day. Oly also gave up just
one goal on defense.
Park City's highlights - Maggie Reigelsperger picked up the
Miners' lone goal. Park City was playing the second of five straight
games against 4A and 5A competition, and was held to one goal
in each.
Statistical notes - Park City eventually finished with a 13-4-1
record, and advancing to the 3A state championship game. This
was Back's first of 10 goals (second on the team) this season.
What we learned from this game - Oly improved to 2-0 on the
season and has won both games with strong defensive play.
Next - Oly has its third straight home game - against Orem - on
Aug. 13. Park City fell to 1-2 and takes on Sky View at home Aug.
17.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
the Deseret News brief, click here.
Aug. 12 - Olympus 3, Cottonwood 1
Story of the game - Savannah Spere, Maddie Hart and and Annie
Omer scored goals as Olympus opened its 2010 soccer season
with a non-region win over Cottonwood.
Oly's highlights - The Titans took a 2-1 lead at intermission, and
junior goalkeeper Becca Alley pitched a second-half shutout in the
win.
Cottonwood's highlights - The Colts got a goal in the first half
from Brooke Evans, who scored just four times all year. This was
Cottonwood's second game, and the Colts had beaten Kearns 5-0
two days earlier.
Statistical notes - The Titans were ready for the opener, which
occurred about two weeks before school started. Oly was also
anxious to get off to a good start. The team didn't score in its first
two matches the previous season.
What we learned from this game - Coach Chris Madsen was
concerned about this match because he had a goalkeeper playing
her first varsity game, and it turned out well.
Next - Oly plays host to Park City on Aug. 13. Cottonwood had
Tooele at home the same day.
Links - There was no local media coverage of the game. To read
