Oct. 30 - Woods Cross 35, Provo 20
Story of the game - QB Tyler Parson threw for two touchdowns and
the Woods Cross defense returned a pair of interceptions for scores
to claim a road victory over Provo in the opening round of the 4A
playoffs.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs trailed 21-0 but rallied to make
it a game. Seth Rhineer caught a touchdown pass from QB Matt
Griner, and then Maka Unufe had a long kickoff return to start the
second half that led to another score.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats led 14-0, then John Kendrick
returned an interception 30 yards for a score. Woods Cross put the
game away in the fourth period when Adam Hales picked off a pass
and took it 90 yards for a score.
What we learned from this game - The Bulldogs ended the season
on a sour note, but it was their most successful season in a while.
Unufe played, but his exploits were not enough this time. Region 7
lost three of its four games, but Timpview looks stellar.
Next - Provo is done for the season. Woods Cross advances to play
Springville in a 4A quarterfinal.

Tribune article, click here.
Oct. 23 - Timpview 64, Provo 7
Story of the game - QB Trevor Brown passed for 273 yards and ran
for 110 more as Timpview benefited from an injury to Provo's star
player, Maka Unufe, and rolled to the Region 7 championship.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs' hopes ended when Unufe was
hurt while trying to tackle a Timpview running back. Keoki Unufe
scored Provo's only touchdown, a 58-yard run that came in the fourth
quarter.
Timpview's best moment - Brown threw for three TDs, including two
to Zach Van Leeuwen. Four of Timpview's TDs were long plays. The
Thunderbirds also dominated the line of scrimmage, and rolled up
517 yards total offense. During the season, Timpview outscored its
region opponents by an average of 52-8.
What we learned from this game - Provo lost to Timpview for the
20th straight time, and ended region play in second place, and still
has a first-round home game in the 4A playoffs. The question is
whether Maka Unufe will be ready.
Next - Provo plays host to Woods Cross in the first round of the 4A
playoffs. Timpview has a home game against Olympus.

game. To read the D-News story, click here. To view the Salt Lake

Oct. 14 - Provo 34, Orem 13
Story of the game - Maka Unufe scored four touchdowns, and Keoki
Unufe had another score as Provo belted rival Orem and remained
unbeaten in Region 7.
Provo's best moment - Maka Unufe is a candidate as the Region 7
player of the year he played like it. He had two TD passes from Matt
Griner, returned a punt and a kickoff for scores. Provo led 21-7 at
halftime and then broke it open with a pair of touchdowns in the third
quarter.
Orem's best moment - This was a game with post-season
implications since Orem had just one region loss entering the game.
Orem tried to hang on to the ball, rushing for 204 yards and almost
five yards per carry. Jeremiah Tiatia and Chase Orwin had Orem's
touchdowns.
What we learned from this game - The Unufe brothers are Provo's
key players and are huge assets for the Bulldogs, who now must
beat Timpview to win the region crown.
Next - Provo plays host to Timpview. Orem goes to Mountain View.

Oct. 8 - Provo 21, Mountain View 20
Story of the game - Maka Unufe rushed for 141 yards, including the
go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Provo avoided an
upset thanks to a botched Mountain View snap.
Provo's best moment - The game went back-and-forth. Provo put
Kyler Hamilton at QB, and Hamilton ran for 89 yards and also
completed a 16-yard TD pass to Josh Roberts.
Mountain View's best moment - This was a winnable game, but the
failed snap prevented it. The Bruins benefited from special-teams
play. They blocked a punt that led to their first score, and Provo never
converted on any of its PATs.
What we learned from this game - Provo was lucky to win this one,
but the Bulldogs avoided the upset and edged closer to a Region 7
title with just two games to play.
Next - Provo plays at Orem. Mountain View is off until it takes on
Orem Oct. 23.

Oct. 1- Provo 27, Ogden 21
Story of the game - Provo's Maka Unufe scored three touchdowns,
including one on an interception return, and won what seemed like a
personal battle against Nik Allred of Ogden in this non-region game.
Provo's best moment - Unufe was easily the player of the game. He
had two pass interceptions, and the final one was the difference in
the game. Keoki Unufe also helped with a long kickoff return.
Ogden's best moment - Allred passed for 175 yards and ran for 91
more. He also blocked an extra point and had a pass interception.
Ogden dominated time of possession.
What we learned from this game - This was a non-region battle
between two 4A schools have been having great seasons. It ended
up being the great battle it was supposed to be. Unufe and Allred
have to be all-state contenders.
Next - Provo plays host to Mountain View. Ogden goes to Sky View.

game. To read the D-News story, click here. To view the Herald
article, click here. There was no report in the Salt Lake Tribune.
Sept. 25 - Provo 33, Lehi 0
Story of the game - QB Matt Griner ran for two touchdowns, and
Armand Na'oupu returned a fumble 26 yards for a score as Provo
used ball control to beat Lehi and spoil the Pioneers' homecoming
game.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs got their offense going in the
second quarter. Griner and Kyler Hamilton scored on short runs, and
then Na'oupu's touchdown gave them a 20-0 lead at intermission.
Lehi's best moment - QB Palmer Page led the Pioneers on several
decent drives in the second half, but they could never cross the goal
line. Steven Lew had 51 yards rushing, and a good game
defensively. He was also honored as homecoming king.
What we learned from this game - A dominating performance by
Provo. The outcome wasn't surprising, but it's about time everyone
realized we are halfway through the region season and Provo is in
first place.
Next - Provo plays host to Ogden in a non-region contest. Lehi travels
to Mountain View.
Links - The Provo Herald had a reporter at the game. To read the
Herald story, click here. There was no report in the Deseret News or
Salt Lake Tribune.
Sept. 18 - Provo 21, Timpanogos 7
Story of the game - Kyler Hamilton rushed for 97 yards and a
touchdown, and Provo got a lot of help from its defense and special
teams units to beat Timpanogos and improve to 2-0 in Region 7 play.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs led 15-7 when Maka Unufe
returned a Thunderbirds punt to the 3-yard line, which set up a score
by QB Matt Griner. Provo shut down Timpanogos in the second half
and made its 21-7 halftime lead stand.
Timpanogos' best moment - Brooks Fowler's 23-yard touchdown
pass to Ryan Hamilton was the Thunderbirds only score. The game
was a defensive battle during the second half.
What we learned from this game - Provo had been using offense to
win most of its games, but the defense came through on this night
and that allowed the homecoming crowd to go home happy.
Next - Provo travels to play Lehi. Timpanogos has a home game
against Mountain View.

Sept. 11 - Provo 28, Westlake 23
Story of the game - QB Matt Griner threw for 294 yards and two
touchdowns, and scored two more running the football, as Provo
held off Westlake in the Region 7 opener for both teams.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs never trailed in this game. They
led 7-3 at halftime, but extended the margin in the third quarter when
Griner hit Maka Unufe on an 85-yard touchdown pass, and then
connected with Keoki Unufe on a 15-yard score.
Westlake's best moment - The Thunder rallied behind QB John
Ursua, who threw for 403 yards and three scores. Ursua connected
with Moana Ofahengaue twice in the fourth quarter to put pressure on
the Bulldogs, but couldn't get closer.
What we learned from this game - Provo improved to 1-0 in region
and got back on the winning track after last week's loss. Westlake is
playing teams tough for being a new school.
Next - Provo plays host to Timpanogos in its homecoming game.
Westlake goes to Mountain View.

Sept. 4 - West Jordan 46, Provo 28
Story of the game - Adam Boelter passed for 330 yards and ran for
146 more as West Jordan rallied in the second half to beat Provo in a
battle of unbeaten teams.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs actually led 28-19 at halftime,
thanks to the talents of Maka and Keoki Unufe. Maka and Keoki each
caught touchdown passes from QB Matt Griner. Maka also returned a
kickoff for a touchdown. He had to leave the game in the second half,
due to cramps, and Provo couldn't recover.
West Jordan's best moment - The running game helped West
Jordan establish the pass and Boelter was able to connect with WRs
Deshawn Perkins and C.J. O'Neal six times each. The Jags' defense
also stopped Provo in the second half. Junior LaPale intercepted a
pass and returned it for a score.
What we learned from this game - This was a battle between two
good offenses and West Jordan won by playing a full 48 minutes.
Keoki Unufe, however, established himself as game-breaker with
131 yards rushing.
Next - Provo opens Region 7 play at Westlake. West Jordan starts
Region 3 action at Copper Hills.

Aug. 28 - Provo 45, Stansbury 22
Story of the game - Maka Unufe ran for two touchdowns and
returned an interception 10 yards for another score as Provo handed
Stansbury its first loss (ever) in a non-region game.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs' defense played well, and even
scored twice. Michael Ormsby returned a fumble for the game's first
score and Unufe added another. Provo led 24-8 at halftime and was
never headed.
Stansbury's best moment - Trailing 14-0, the Stallions got on the
board on an 88-yard run Ivan Sanchez. Stansbury's offense had
limited success against Provo, but never gave up.
What we learned from this game - This was a good win for Provo
and, once again, Unufe, was a big reason. He has established
himself as Provo's biggest threat. Future opponents will concentrate
on him now, so Provo must find a new threat.
Next - Provo plays host to West Jordan. Stansbury travels to take on
Ogden.

Deseret News brief, click here. To view the Salt Lake Tribune box

Aug. 21 - Provo 28, Cyprus 14
Story of the game - Maka Unufe scored three times, twice on long
passes and then with a punt return, as Provo built a big lead and
turned back Cyprus in the season opener for both teams.
Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs should be looking for more
creative ways to get Unufe the ball. The fleet Provo back should be
the Player of the Week for his efforts, which helped build a 14-0
halftime lead.
Cyprus' best moment - The Pirates rallied in the fourth quarter.
Down 28-0, George Thomas returned a punt 67 yards and then
scored a few players later on a 1-yard run. After a successful
on-sides kick, QB Jordan Wagner connected with T.J. Johnson on a
10-yard pass.
What we learned from this game - This was a great opener for the
Bulldogs, who found a playmaker and showed the ability to make big
plays from anywhere on the field. This could be an interesting
season for the Bulldogs.
Next - Provo goes to Stansbury. Cyprus travels to play Kearns.
