Feb. 23 - Brighton 46, Riverton 44
Story of the game: Katie Tominaga scored 14 points and Shelbi
Everett had 13 as Brighton took a big first-half lead and then held on to
edge Riverton in a first-round battle of the 5A state tournament.
Riverton's highlights: The Silverwolves trailed the entire game, but
made a huge rally behind Caitlin Nelson (19 points) and Kylee Hogue
(12). Riverton cut the margin and had a chance to win, but Nelson's
three-pointer at the buzzer barely missed.
Brighton's highlights: The Bengals played one of their best halves of
the season and grabbed a 30-9 advantage at intermission. Everett had
three treys, and Brighton also benefited from the foul differential.
Statistical notes: Both teams came into the game with identical 17-4
records. Nelson scored 17 of her points in the second half. Brighton
shot 18-27 from the free-throw line. Riverton was 12-18.
What we learned from this game: Despite not having Johnson,
Riverton made a valiant effort and even Brighton's players thought
Nelson's final shot was going to make it. This was one of the most
exciting games of the tournament.

Feb. 16 - Riverton 66, West Jordan 34
Story of the game: Mandi Jackson, Kylee Hogue and Caitlin Nelson
reached double figures as Riverton had one of its best offensive
outings of the season in beating West Jordan in each team's Region 3
finale.
Riverton's highlights: Playing without center Megan Johnson, the
Silverwolves found several other scorers and put together their
highest-scoring game since the season opener. Riverton led 27-13 at
halftime, then outscored West Jordan 24-5 in the third period.
West Jordan's highlights: The Jaguars scored 16 of their 34 points in
the fourth quarter. Taylor Johnson and Jessica Bloxham had 10 points
each.
Statistical notes: This was Senior Night at Riverton, and a lot of
seniors had big nights. It was revealed that Johnson has a torn
meniscus and ACL and is out for the year. Riverton shot 25-39 from the
free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: Riverton finished the regular
season with a convincing win, but it's still unknown how well the
Silverwolves will play without their leading scorer. The Silverwolves
earned a first-round home game against Brighton.

Feb. 11 - Riverton 46, Copper Hills 34
Story of the game: Caitlin Nelson scored 17 points as Riverton tried to
shake off the loss of leading scorer Megan Johnson to a
season-ending injury and downed Copper Hills in a Region 3 game.
Riverton's highlights: Nelson's 17 was her season-high and the best
scoring of any player besides Johnson. The victory was marred by her
injury and the team had difficulty putting away the Grizzlies.
Copper Hills' highlights: The Grizzlies stayed with Riverton. Jessica
Cruse had one of her best games with 12 points, seven rebounds and
three blocks. Copper Hills also shot 40 percent from the field.
Statistical notes: Johnson had two points when she left in the game in
obvious pain. Allee Carter added eight points and Katie Bodily seven.
Riverton shot just 10-22 from the free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: The win clinched the second seed
for Riverton in the upcoming 5A state tournament, but Johnson's injury
reduced its chances. Bingham also won to clinch the region's top seed.

Feb. 9 - Riverton 60, Taylorsville 37
Story of the game: Megan Johnson led four players in double figures
as Riverton stayed in contention for the Region 3 crown with a
convincing win over Taylorsville.

Bodily combined for most of Riverton's points. Riverton dominated play
and built a 44-19 lead at one point. The SIlverwolves shot 19-21 from
the free-throw line.
Taylorsville's highlights: The Warriors didn't have much to cheer
about, but they outscored Riverton 18-16 in the fourth quarter. Sa'ane
Lo'amanu had a big night with 21 points. Whitney Mitchell had 12.
Statistical notes: The 37 points was Taylorsville's season low, and
Riverton did it twice. Lo'amanu had three treys for the Warriors.
What we learned from this game: Riverton's win put Bingham in sole
possession of first place, but it also kept the Silverwolves in the
running for the title.

Feb. 4 - Riverton 52, Kearns 34
Story of the game: Megan Johnson poured in 26 points to tie her
season high and helped Riverton pull away from Kearns in the second
half to win this Region 3 contest.

outscored Kearns 20-4 to build a big lead. Morganne Campbell added
eight points, including a pair of three-pointers.

and showed great improvement. Christen Lopez led Kearns with 10
points and had two of the team's four three-pointers.
Statistical notes: Riverton shot 12-20 from the free-throw line. Kearns
was 8-15. Kearns swept the season series.
What we learned from this game: The Silverwolves got back on the
winning track by getting the ball to their best scorer, Johnson, who
came through once again.

Jan. 28 - Bingham 32, Riverton 30

Fankhauser made a big defensive play late in the game as Bingham

Riverton's highlights: Riverton got its offense going in the second
quarter and took a 21-17 lead at intermission. Megan Johnson topped
the Silverwolves with 10 points in this defensive-minded matchup.
Bingham's highlights: The Miners took the lead in the second half and
then held on to the ball for most of the last three minutes to hang on.
Nicole Newbold added seven points as Bingham made up for its loss
at Taylorsville.
Statistical notes: The offenses often held on to the ball for long
periods of time. The teams combined to shoot just nine free throws.
What we learned from this game: The Silverwolves lost to the Miners
again, so a Region 3 title this season is possible, but unlikely.

Tribune story, click here. For the Deseret News brief, click here.

half. Jessica Bloxham led with 12 points and Ashleigh Lamoreaux had
six. They also had a pair of three-pointers each.
Statistical notes: Riverton held the Jaguars to just 12 points in the
second half. Riverton shot 13-20 from the free-throw line. West Jordan
was 3-8.
What we learned from this game: Bingham lost at Taylorsville tonight
to force a three-way tie and set up another big Riverton-Bingham game
next.

Deseret News brief, click here. For the Salt Lake Tribune box score,

Jan. 21 - Riverton 56, Copper Hills 32
Story of the game: Caitlin Nelson led a balanced scoring effort with 10
points and helped Riverton post a convincing victory over Copper Hills
in a Region 3 game.
Riverton's highlights: The Silverwolves jumped to a 16-3 first-quarter
lead and built the margin to 24 points while substituting freely. The
margin could have been more had Riverton shot better than 19-27 from
the free-throw line.
Copper Hills' highlights: The Grizzlies had their moments. Terysa Dyer
and Marissa Lazenby had seven points each. Kaylee Snyder led the
team in rebounds with seven.
Statistical notes: There was a big discrepancy in fouls. Copper Hills
shot just 3-8 from the free-throw line. Allee Carter and Megan Johnson
had eight points each for Riverton.

and the team scoring is more balanced as more players get their
chance on the court.

Jan. 19 - Riverton 56, Taylorsville 37

had 11 as Riverton dominated early and went on to blow past
Taylorsville in a Region 3 contest.
Riverton's highlights: The Silverwolves led 16-3 after one period and
built the margin to 52-24 going into the final quarter. This was a big
effort and every player got involved.
Taylorsville's highlights: The Warriors outscored Riverton 13-4 in the
fourth period to make the score appear closer. Whitney Mitchell had 11
points and Erin Romero had nine.
Statistical notes: The teams combined to shoot 65 free throws.
Riverton shot just 18-37 from the line. Johnson was responsible for
most, going 10-17 and getting a couple of Taylorsville players in foul
trouble.
What we learned from this game: This might have been Riverton's
best offensive effort this season. This was a key victory as Taylorsville
could challenge for the Region 3 title.
Links: The Salt Lake Tribune had a reporter at the game. To read the
Tribune story, click here. To read the Deseret News brief, click here.

Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt Lake
Tribune.
Jan. 12 - Bingham 41, Riverton 30
Story of the game: Dezz Ramos scored 17 points and Bingham hit
almost all of its free throws to pull away from Riverton and win this key
battle in each team's Region 3 opener.
Riverton's highlights: This was a Riverton home game and the
Silverwolves rallied in the second quarter to take a 17-15 lead at
halftime. Megan Johnson led a balanced attack with eight points.
Bingham's highlights: The Miners played great defense and the third
quarter and took a 23-20 lead. Then hit 14-15 free throws, many down
the stretch, to hang on to the win and end a four-game losing streak to
their rival.
Statistical notes: This was Riverton's first region loss in more than two
years. Bingham held Riverton to its lowest-scoring total.
What we learned from this game: Riverton dropped its second
straight game - both at home. The loss means Bingham is now the
favorite to win the region title, but these teams play once more.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read the
Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt Lake
Tribune.
Jan. 8 - Springville 37, Riverton 35

Jensen the defense as Springville rallied in the fourth quarter to nip
Riverton in a tough non-region battle.
Riverton's highlights: The Silverwolves got 11 points from Megan
Johnson and eight by Allee Carter and led most of the game. The
margin was 28-24 entering the fourth period. Riverton had balanced
scoring, despite the loss.
Springville's highlights: Eaton had 19 points as Springville outscored
Riverton 13-7 in the final period and remained unbeaten. This was one
of their toughest games. Jensen had just two points, but 10 blocked
shots.
Statistical notes: The 37 points Riverton gave up was its season high.
Riverton shot 11-18 from the free-throw line. Springville would reach
the 4A championship game.
What we learned from this game: This was a battle between 4A and
5A powers and a tough loss for the home team. Overall, though, this
game will help prepare Riverton for the upcoming region season.

Jan. 6 - Riverton 41, Spanish Fork 31
Story of the game: Megan Johnson was a big presence inside,
scoring 18 points as Riverton built a lead and held off Spanish Fork in
a competitive non-region game.
Riverton's highlights: The Silverwolves never trailed, but couldn't
shake Spanish Fork either. The lead was as high as 12 points in the
first quarter. Riverton helped itself by making 11-14 free throws.
Spanish Fork's highlights: The Dons dropped their fifth straight, but
played well and rallied to within 29-26 at one time. Brynlie Nielsen led
with 13 points and Erin Redd picked up five steals.
Statistical notes: We'll say it again. This would be Spanish Fork's
season-low point total. That's seven times in nine games so far.
Spanish Fork made just 6-19 free throws - on its home court. Allee
Carter and Kylee Hogue made three-pointers for Riverton.
What we learned from this game: After a one-week break, Riverton is
a little sluggish, but picks up another victory and improves its record to
9-1.

Dec. 30 - Riverton 54, Grantsville 18
Story of the game: Megan Johnson led a balanced scoring effort with
16 points as Riverton built a big lead and bounced Grantsville in a
non-region game.
Riverton's highlights: The Silverwolves led 30-6 at halftime, and
emptied their bench once again against a 3A opponent. Pume Currie
and Katie Bodily added eight points and three others had six. Riverton
made 15-17 free throws - a season best.
Grantsville's highlights: Kelsi Wells was the Cowboys' only real
offensive threat with 12 points. Grantsville only shot two free throws, but
made both of them. Riverton was the only 5A opponent on Grantsville's
schedule.
Statistical notes: Jamie Smith had six points on a pair of
three-pointers. Grantsville didn't make a single trey. Shall we say it
again? This was Grantsville's season-low point total - and by far.
What we learned from this game: This ends Riverton's tour of 3A
opponents, and only Wasatch gave the Silverwolves a game. All three
were on the road, though, and it allowed Riverton to find more offensive
output.
Links: There was no local media coverage of this game. To read the
Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt Lake
Tribune or Tooele Transcript.
Dec. 29 - Riverton 40, Wasatch 27
Story of the game: Allee Carter, Caitlin Nelson, Mandi Jackson and
Morganne Campbell scored seven points apiece as Riverton built a
nice lead and held off Wasatch in a non-region game.
Riverton's highlights: The Wasps did a nice job on Megan Johnson,
but others picked up the slack and helped Riverton improve to 5-0 on
the road. The game was close early, but the Silverwolves dominated
the middle two quarters with their terrific defensive play.
Wasatch's highlights: Katrina Baird scored 12 points and had eight
rebounds as Wasatch rallied late in the game. The Wasps held
Johnson to her season low (five points). Natalie Pennington had 11
rebounds.
Statistical notes: The 27 points would be Wasatch's season low.
Anyone see a trend here? Carter and Campbell had three-pointers for
Riverton. It marked the first time someone other than Carter had made
one. Wasatch did a nice job rebounding against Riverton.
What we learned from this game: This was a potential upset, but
Riverton got the balanced scoring coach Ron Ence likes, and it paid off.
Wasatch is a decent 3A team this year.

Dec. 21 - Riverton 50, Tooele 21
Story of the game: Megan Johnson led a balanced scoring effort with
15 points and Riverton dominated Tooele in a non-region game.
Riverton's highlights: The Silverwolves took a 14-7 first-quarter lead
and then let their defense do the talking. They held Tooele to only two
points in each of the next two quarters. Pume Currie had seven points
as 11 players scored.
Tooele's highlights: The Buffaloes played with Riverton in the opening
quarter, but the game got away in the second period. Rylee Mulitalo
had a decent game with eight points, Becca Smaellie added seven.
Statistical notes: Shall we say it again? This would be Tooele's
season-low point total. This is getting to be a habit. Riverton made a
season-best 17-23 free throws. Tooele was just 1-9. Surprisingly,
Tooele made no three-pointers.
What we learned from this game: After starting the season with
several powerful opponents, Riverton has a series of easy games, and
it's showing. It's an interesting scheduling move.

Deseret News brief, click here. There was no report in the Salt Lake

Dec. 19 - Riverton 61, Park City 20
Story of the game: Megan Johnson scored 20 points and Riverton
held Park City scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game en route to
an easy non-region road victory.
Riverton's highlights: This had to be some sort of a record. Riverton
led 26-0 after the first quarter and continued to pile it on, even though
the Silverwolves filled the game with reserves. Kylee Hogue had nine
points and 10 different players scored.
Park City's highlights: It took the Miners some time to solve Riverton's
defense. Laurel Kasel found her outside shooting touch and finished
with 15 points, including three treys.
Statistical notes: Like many others before them, this would be Park
City's season low point total. Johnson's 20 points was her season
high (to date). Park City coach Sam White said, "this will be the best
team we'll face this season."
What we learned from this game: This was a nice break from
Riverton's traditional 5A preseason opponents, and it was no surprise
the Silverwolves dominated.

game. To read the Tribune article, click here. For the Deseret News

Dec. 10 - Riverton 36, Pleasant Grove 25
Story of the game: Megan Johnson scored 11 points and Riverton's
defense dominated again, holding Pleasant Grove scoreless in the
second quarter, en route to a convincing non-region win.
Riverton's highlights: Riverton led 7-6 after the first quarter, but
outscored PG 10-0 in the second period to take a big lead. Allee Carter
backed up Johnson with eight points.
PG's highlights: After scoring just six points in the opening half, PG got
its offense going and the teams played evenly. Jennifer Hamson had
nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The loss ended PG's
three-game winning streak.
Statistical notes: Riverton won the inside battle, and hit 16-25 free
throws, compared to PG's 5-8. This 25-point effort would be PG's
season low.
What we learned from this game: Riverton is winning games with its
defensive efforts, and this time Johnson received some help
offensively. This was another big game between 5A powers, and
Riverton won this one.

Dec. 8 - Brighton 33, Riverton 32
Story of the game: Kylie Hirschi scored 16 points and Brighton took
advantage of its better free-throw shooting to hold off Riverton in a
battle of unbeaten basketball powers.
Riverton's highlights: This game was close throughout. Megan
Johnson had 16 points for the Silverwolves. Riverton's defense played
well once again, holding Brighton what would be its season low point
total.
Brighton's highlights: The Bengals won this pivotal early season battle
between 5A title contenders. Shelbi Everett added six points. Brighton
made 8-12 free throws on its home court.
Statistical notes: Riverton made only 3-10 charity shots - its season
low (to date). Allee Carter added another three-pointer, which was the
only one in this game.
What we learned from this game: Riverton is playing tough defense,
but so far the Silverwolves have not found anyone who can consistently
back Johnson with more scoring. Opponents will figure this out quickly.

leading the way with 16 points as Riverton stayed unbeaten and gave
Murray its fourth straight loss in a non-region game.

Baron eight as Murray tried to stay with Riverton. Leading scorer Mariah
Duran had just three. Murray shot 10-11 from the free-throw line.
Statistical notes: Carter nailed a three-pointer, which was Riverton's
first this season. Riverton made 14-25 free throws. Through three
games, they've been pretty steady there, but improvement is needed.
What we learned from this game: This was Riverton's first home
game and the result was a not quite-so-comfortable 15-point win. The
defense has played well, however, in each game.
