Oct. 31 - Davis 28, Riverton 14
Story of the game -
Sophomore QB Gavin
Fowler passed for 232
yards, including a 68-yard
TD pass to Tanner Hinds,
and the Davis defense
figured out Riverton's
offense and claimed a
5-A playoff road win.
Riverton's best moment -
On their first drive, Zach
Spencer's 40-yard run set
up his own short TD run to
excite the home crowd and
give the Silverwolves a 7-0
lead. By the time Riverton
scored again, the game
was no longer in doubt.
Davis' best moment - After
Riverton took the lead,
Fowler scored twice on a
pair of 1-yard runs, and
then hit Jordan Welk on a
54-yard touchdown pass. Hinds was the Darts' top runner with 124
yards.
What was learned from the game - The Silverwolves were
eliminated in the first round again, this time at home. Davis could be
a surprise team in the 5-A playoffs.
Next week - Riverton is done for the season. Davis advances to play
at Alta.

Oct. 23 - Riverton 27, Hunter 7
Story of the game - Dillon Draper, Daniel Hoffman, Zach Spencer
and Paydon Newman combined for almost 300 yards rushing as
Riverton beat Hunter for the first time ever in both team's final
regular-season game.
Riverton's best moment - Draper tied the game with a 35-yard run,
and then Hoffman added a short TD run with a Michael Allem field
goal to give the Silverwolves a 17-7 halftime lead. Riverton's defense
dominated. The win helped erase a 23-0 loss to Hunter last year
when both schools were in about the same situation.
Hunter's best moment - Hunter scored first. The Wolverines' Chris
Hunter returned the opening kickoff 50 yards and that led to Brett
Lunceford's 20-yard TD pass to Hunter for a 7-0 lead.
What was learned from the game - Riverton has the No. 2 seed,
while Hunter keeps the fourth spot. Both have spots in the 5-A
playoffs.
Next week - Riverton will play Davis. Hunter travels to play Layton.

Oct. 15 - Riverton 26, Kearns 21
Story of the game - RB Daniel Hoffman capped a six-minute drive
with a short TD run late in the game to lift Riverton to a comeback win
over Kearns and sole possession of second place in Region 3.
Kearns' best moment - QB J.R. Final rushed for 93 yards and two
TDs. One of his runs was a 71-yarder. The Cougars trailed by 13
points at one time and rallied to take the lead.
Riverton's best moment - Leading 14-7, Tone Rich recovered a
Kearns fumble and scampered 98 yards for a touchdown that put
Riverton in command. Kearns had to play "catch up" after that.
What was learned from the game - The game went back-and-forth
and these teams are pretty close to equal. Both clubs will make the
5-A playoffs, but this game likely made a big difference on who will
host or travel in the first round.
Next week - Kearns finishes the regular season at West Jordan.
Riverton travels to Hunter.

Oct. 10 - Bingham 48, Riverton 21
Story of the game - Travis McRae returned a fumble 95 yards for a touchdown, and the Miners stopped Riverton twice inside the 10-yard
line en route to a convincing win over the Silverwolves. The victory put Bingham in sole possession of first place in Region 3.
Riverton's best moment - There were plenty, but the Silverwolves didn't take advantage. Mike Maughan, for example, returned a kickoff to
Bingham's 4-yard line, but Riverton missed a field goal. RB Zach Spencer had TD runs of 71 and 64 yards in the second half.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners extended the lead to 27-7 on an impressive six-play drive to open the second half that L.T. Filiaga
capped with a 15-yard touchdown reception from Jake Soffe. It was the third touchdown pass of the game for Soffe, who connected with
Remington Peck and Mike Edmunds in the first half.
What was learned from the game - This was the battle for the top spot on Region 3, and the Silverwolves had their chance.
Next week - Riverton travels to Kearns. Bingham returns home to play Hunter.

Oct. 2 - Riverton 40, West Jordan 23
Story of the game - Riverton's Matt Maughan returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, and that started the onslaught. RB
Zach Spencer had two TD runs of over 60 yards as the Silverwolves claimed the Region 3 victory.
Riverton's best moment - Riverton led only 19-16 in the third quarter when the Silverwolves went on two TD drives. Tad Carter caught a
4-yard scoring pass from QB Davis Johnson, then RB Dillon Draper had a 7-yard TD run to make it 33-16.
West Jordan's' best moment - The Jags fell behind early, but recovered in the second quarter to make it a game. The key point might
have been when it was held to a field goal in the third quarter, which allowed Riverton to keep the lead.
What we learned from this game - Riverton is 2-0 and tied for first place in region. West Jordan is 0-2 and, after opening the season with
five straight wins, has dropped two straight. Looks like next week's game against Bingham could be a big one.
Next: Riverton takes on region power Bingham on its home field. West Jordan returns home to play Hunter.

Sept. 25 - Riverton 28, Copper Hills 21
Story of the game - Chad Carter caught a 12-yard TD pass from Davis Johnson late in the game to lift Riverton past Copper Hills in their
Region 3 opener. Riverton's rushing attack proved to be the difference in the game.
Riverton's best moment - Marco Trujillo intercepted a pass that stopped a key CH drive in the fourth quarter. The offensive and defensive
lines controlled the game and Riverton's was dominant. Zach Spencer ran for 176 yards and teammate Dillon Draper had 114. The
Silverwolves also blocked a CH field goal attempt.
Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies couldn't run the ball, so QB Josh Soter threw it. He completed 20 of 31 passes for 331 yards.
Teammate Chandler Allen had 8 catches for 174 yards and a TD. It almost was enough.
What we learned from this game - The game was won in the trenches, although Copper Hills nearly pulled it out. The Grizzlies need to
toughen up as their next two opponents also have impressive linemen. The good news is CH seems to have the region's best passing
attack.
Next: Riverton plays host to West Jordan. Copper Hills travels to Hunter.

Sept. 19 - Jordan 29, Riverton 22
Story of the game - Jordan QB Alex Hart ran 11 yards for a touchdown, and the Beetdiggers added a two-point conversion, in the fourth
quarter to lift the team to an exciting non-region win over Riverton in its homecoming contest.
Riverton's best moment - The third quarter belonged to the Silverwolves, which is often a sign of coaching. The offense wore Jordan down
on several lengthy, punishing drives led by Zach Spencer and Dillon Draper. Down 21-19 and facing a stiff wind in his face, kicker Michael
Allem calmly nailed a 40-yard field goal to give Riverton the lead as the fourth quarter began.
Jordan's best moment - The Diggers led 21-6 at halftime, but Riverton rallied in the third quarter. Trailing 22-21, Hart moved the team
downfield for a score. Riverton then rallied, but Corey Hunt intercepted a pass on defense to secure the win.
What we learned from this game - Riverton coach Mike Miller watched the game from the press box, due to his recent surgery. "My role is
going to have to be different this year because of the injury," Miller said. "I'll probably be in the box for the rest of the year."
Next - Riverton opens Region 3 play at home against Copper Hills. Jordan travels to meet Hillcrest in a Region 2 game.

Sept. 12 - Riverton 49, Hillcrest 14
Story of the game - RB Zach Spencer rushed for 245 yards on only eight carries, and scored three times on long runs as Riverton rallied
from an early deficit to handily defeat Hillcrest in a non-region game at the Huskies' home field.
Riverton's best moment - It was the Zach Spencer show, but Daniel Hoffman also scored twice and the Silverwolves' defense put the
clamps on Hillcrest for most of the game. After last week's loss, Riverton is back on track.
Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies scored first on a 17-yard pass from QB Kolby Koplin to WR Kyle Maughn. The two also connected
again on Hillcrest's other touchdown. In-between, the game belonged to the Silverwolves.
What was learned from the game - Riverton coach Mike Miller missed the game due to a knee injury he suffered earlier in the week. The
film he likely watched, however, should be one of the season's best, based on the outcome.
Next week - Riverton goes to Jordan to play its final non-region game of the season. Hillcrest plays host to West Jordan.

Sept. 5 - Pleasant Grove 25, Riverton 3
Story of the game - Joe Owens had 91 yards on 11 carries and QB LeSean Wilcox tossed a 52-yard bomb to Dalton Brady to lift Pleasant
Grove to a surprisingly easy win over previously unbeaten Riverton in a non-region game.
Riverton's best moment - There weren't many to choose from. Trailing 12-0 in the second quarter, RB Zach Spencer burst through for 36
yards on three consecutive carries. Another long run by Daniel Hoffman put Riverton in scoring possession, but the Silverwolves missed a
FG attempt.
Pleasant Grove's best moment - After a fumble gave Riverton its only score - a field goal - PG moved the ball and put the game out of
reach. Joey Owens scored his second TD and then Wilcox threw a scoring pass.
What we learned from this game - Riverton was 2-0. This was its first game away from home and the Silverwolves didn't show up. They
know have two more road contests to prove whether this was a fluke.
Next - Riverton goes to Hillcrest in another non-region game. Pleasant Grove plays at Copper Hills.

Aug. 29 - Riverton 57, Taylorsville 15
Story of the game - Riverton QB Davis Johnson threw two TD passes and Matt Maughan returned a kickoff 89 yards for a score that
opened the floodgates in the Silverwolves' big win over Taylorsville.
Riverton's best moment - The Silverwolves' offense rushed for 357 yards on 44 carries (over 8 yds a pop). Connor Evans ran 82 yards for
a score as Riverton never had to punt the entire game. The Silverwolves led 41-3 at halftime.
Taylorsville's best moment - RB Nate Azera rushed for 127 yards on 24 carries, and had TD runs of 8 and 17 yards. The Warriors scored
first on Matt Lusty's 31-yard field goal. Maughan returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD and, by the end Taylorsville scored again, it was 51-3.
What we learned from this game - It was a big win for Riverton because it showed what they offense can do. Taylorsville is likely in a
rebuilding year, but this was a game about talent, not depth.
Next - Riverton goes on the road for the first time this season, playing at powerhouse Pleasant Grove. Taylorsville has a home game
against Murray.
Links - The Salt Lake newspapers never reported on the game, and didn't even get the final score correct, so very little information was
available. Thanks to Taylorsville fan Tom Hatch for providing this info.
Aug. 22 - Riverton 14, Timpanogos 10
Story of the game - Big plays made the difference in this mistake-filled season opener. Daniel Hoffman and Dillon Draper scored on long
runs, and the Riverton defense added a safety, as they pulled out a close win against Timpanogos.
Riverton's best moment - Trailing 10-6 starting the fourth quarter, Draper broke through on a 71-yard touchdown run. Draper said the play
was there all night, but missed assignments prevented the big run until that point. Later, the defense added a safety, which played a big
role at the end.
Timpanogos' best moment - The Thunderbirds had to be happy being ahead 10-6, even though they felt they had been out played. Jordan
Fili scored on a 5-yard run and Parker Brown added a 23-yard field goal.
What we learned from this game - Riverton coach Mike Miller said it was a "typical" first game of the season. The team's were feeling out
each other, and making mistakes. Riverton gained confidence with the win, and that should pay big dividends in their second game.
Next - Riverton plays another home game - this time against Taylorsville. Timpanogos will return home to play Hunter.
