Feb. 28 - American Fork 51, Riverton 40

Story of the game:
Haley Holmstead
scored 24 points as
American Fork
grabbed a big first-half
lead and then hung
on to beat Riverton
and claim the 5A state
championship.

Riverton's best
moment:
The Silver-
wolves trailed the
entire game, but
rallied in the fourth
quarter behind Dani
Lockhart and Chelsea
Sorensen to close the
gap to six points.
Lockhart finished with
11 points and 10
rebounds, while
Sorensen had 10
points.

American Fork's
best moment:
The
Cavemen had Miss
Automatic in
Holmstead, but they got a lot of help elsewhere, too. American Fork
led 29-15 at halftime. Amy Krommenhoek had 10 assists, and
Kaycee Mansfield had nine points and seven rebounds.

Statistical notes: Alle Finch had six points for Riverton.  American
Fork was 14-17 from the free-throw line, including 9-10 in the fourth
quarter.

What we learned from this game: The loss was Riverton's first this
season. American Fork lost in the title game last year. The Cavemen
finished 22-2 this year, with both of their losses coming to out-of-state
teams.

Next: The championship game is the final game of the season.

Feb. 27 - Riverton 66, Syracuse 33

Story of the game: Shaye Murphy and Chelsea Sorensen led a
balanced scoring attack as Riverton went on a 20-0 run in the first half
and buried Syracuse to advance to the 5A championship game.

Riverton's best moment: After trailing at halftime the last two games,
Riverton dominated from the start. The Silverwolves led 31-17 at
halftime, and were able to empty their bench and build the lead in the
second half. Shelby Ostler and Dani Lockhart added 10 each.

Syracuse's best moment: The Titans never threatened, but put
together a little rally after Riverton's 20-0 spurt. Freshman Brittany
Martin had 13 points for Syracuse.

Statistical notes: Five of Syracuse's 11 baskets were three-pointers.
Riverton shot 55 percent (24-44) from the field. Ten players scored for
Riverton.

What we learned from this game: Riverton advanced to the 5A state
championship for the first time in school history.

Next: Second-ranked Riverton will play No. 1 American Fork for the 5A
state title. Syracuse finished the season 19-4.

Feb. 26 - Riverton 43, Lone Peak 33

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 13 points and Alle Finch
had 11 as Riverton went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter and held off
Lone Peak in a 5A state tournament quarterfinal game.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves trailed throughout the first
half, but Finch and Shelby Ostler nailed a couple of three-pointers to
get the offense going and Lone Peak also had foul problems to its top
players.

Lone Peak's best moment: The Knights employed a 1-3-1 zone
defense to start the game and that confused Riverton. Whitney
Johnson and Marquelle Funk also played well. Johnson finished with
14 points.

Statistical notes: Finch and Ostler both had a pair of three-pointers
for Riverton. This was the Silverwolves' closest game all season.

What we learned from this game: Riverton had the momentum most
of the second and won going away. Still, the Silverwolves have trailed
at halftime in both of their tournament games.

Next: Riverton advanced to play Syracuse in a 5A semifinal game
Feb. 27. Lone Peak is done for the season.

Feb. 23 - Riverton 66, Davis 43

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 24 points and grabbed 13
rebounds as Riverton came out in the third quarter and dominated
Davis en route to their 5A state tournament victory.

Riverton's best moment: Davis led 29-28 at halftime, but the
Silverwolves went on a 20-5 run and never looked back. Shelby Ostler
added 12 points and Alle Finch had 10.

Davis' best moment: The Darts surprised a lot of people in the first
half, outhustling Riverton in many cases. Davis forced 20 turnovers in
the game. Allison Blake as the top scorer with 12 points.

Statistical notes: Riverton outscored Davis 38-14 in the second half.
Riverton hit 18-29 free throws, while Davis was just 3-5.

What we learned from this game: Riverton comes in unbeaten, and
is marked as the "favorite," but the first game is always difficult. The
Silverwolves played well in the second half.

Next: Riverton advanced to play Lone Peak Feb. 26. Davis is done for
the year.

Feb. 17 - Riverton 68, Copper Hills 12

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 19 points as Riverton
grabbed a big lead and went on to rout Copper Hills in the final
regular-season game for both teams.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves dominated, jumping to an
18-1 lead after the first quarter and were never headed. They emptied
their bench and 10 players scored.

Copper Hills' best moment: This wasn't a winnable game for the
Grizzlies, who also celebrated "Senior Night," and gave red roses to
Riverton players, too. Copper Hills had just four baskets the entire
game.

Statistical notes: Riverton was 19-22 from the free-throw line; Copper
Hills was 2-6. Riverton won the season series and both games were
convincing routs.

What we learned from this game: This was another tuneup game for
the upcoming 5A state tournament. Riverton will go in as the only
unbeaten 5A school.

Next: Riverton opens the 5A tourney against Davis on Feb. 23.
Copper Hills is done for the year.

Feb. 12 - Riverton 52, West Jordan 23

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 11 points and Alle Finch
had 10, but it was Riverton's defense that was the dominating force in
the Silverwolves easy win over West Jordan in a Region 3 game.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led 14-4 after the first
quarter and 31-7 at halftime. The game was over at that point.
Riverton allowed only six baskets the entire game.

West Jordan's best moment: The Jaguars came back in the second
half and played evenly with Riverton. Leslie Bateman led West Jordan
with six points.

Statistical notes: Ten different players scored for Riverton. The
Silverwolves outscored West Jordan 21-16 in the second half.

Riverton and the team continued its winning streak.

Jordan plays host to Kearns to decide third place.

Feb. 10 - Riverton 62, Hunter 16

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 18 points and Riverton got
off to a big lead by holding Hunter scoreless in the first quarter en
route to another easy Region 3 win.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led 15-0 after one quarter
and extended it to 40-9 by halftime. Shelby Ostler and Chelsea
Sorensen added 10 points apiece.

Hunter's best moment: There was none. This game was over early,
but at least it wasn't as bad as the 58-9 loss to Riverton last time.

Statistical notes: Riverton had three treys, led by Ostler with two. Utu
Bloomfield hit a three-pointer for Hunter. Riverton was 14-25 from the
free-throw line; Hunter was 3-4.

What we learned from this game: After the big win against Bingham,
the rest of the region is a cakewalk. Riverton is just warming up for
the 5A state tournament.

Next: Riverton plays host to West Jordan Feb. 12. Hunter goes to
Kearns the same night.

Feb. 5 - Riverton 56, Bingham 36

Story of the game: Alle Finch scored 15 points and Shelby Ostler had
12 as Riverton pulled away from Bingham in the third quarter and put
itself in great position to win the Region 3 title.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led 21-17 at halftime, but
came out and outscored Bingham 16-6 in the third quarter to put the
game away. Shaye Murphy added 10 points.

quarter, but couldn't hold it. Malorie Dixon had 10 points and Taeja
Afalava added nine.

Statistical notes: Riverton had five three-point baskets; Bingham had
none. The teams shot about the same from the free-throw line.
Riverton swept the season series and held Bingham to its season
low on offense each time.

What we learned from this game: Riverton has a two-game lead,
and owns the tiebreaker, with three games remaining. Riverton is
unbeaten, so that statistic probably won't matter anyway.

Next: Riverton plays at Hunter Feb. 10. Bingham takes on Kearns at
home the same night.

Jan. 29 - Riverton 51, Kearns 25

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 17 points and Chelsea
Sorensen had 16 as Riverton grabbed a nice lead early and downed
Kearns in a Region 3 game.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led 19-6 after the first
quarter and were never threatened. Riverton did not empty its bench,
despite the lead, and outscored Kearns 23-15 in the second half.

Kearns' best moment: Trailing 28-10 at halftime, the Cougars made
a nice run at Riverton, but couldn't make up any ground. Brooke
Larsen had 10 points for Kearns.

Statistical notes: Kearns was held to single digits in three of the
game's four quarters. The Cougars' 25 points was a season low for
their offense.

What we learned from this game: Riverton continued its unbeaten
streak and now can look forward to its next game at home against
Bingham.

Next: Riverton plays host to Bingham on Feb. 5. Kearns has Copper
Hills at home the same night.

Jan. 27 - Riverton 72, Copper Hills 19

Story of the game: Alle Finch scored 20 points as Riverton grabbed a
big lead early and just continued to blast Copper Hills in a Region 3
game.

Riverton's best moment: This game was never in doubt. Riverton led
22-4 after the first quarter, and even outscored the Grizzlies 34-5 in
the second half, while playing their reserves.

Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies played their best in the
second quarter. It still wasn't enough, but it did delay the huge point
discrepancy for a while. Jessica Cruse led with six points.

Statistical notes: Ten players scored for Riverton. They had five
three-point baskets. Copper Hills had none. Copper Hills didn't score
in the fourth quarter.

What we learned from this game: Riverton stayed unbeaten and
alone in first place in the region. The only region team that will test the
Silverwolves is Bingham.

Next: Riverton travels to play Kearns Jan. 29. Copper Hills is at
Hunter the same night.

Jan. 22 - Riverton 72, West Jordan 30

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 22 points and helped
Riverton roll to an easy victory over West Jordan in a Region 3 game
and remain unbeaten.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led 16-6 after one quarter
and 41-17 at halftime. They flooded the game with reserves after that.
Shelby Ostler added 11 points as 11 players scored.

West Jordan's best moment: This was never a winnable game for
the Jaguars. Gabriella Rodriguez had nine points and Leslie
Bateman seven.

Statistical notes: West Jordan fouled a lot and Riverton hit 23-35 free
throws. After four region games, Riverton is outscoring its opponents
by almost 35 points per game.

What we learned from this game: Riverton appears to be the class
of the region, and only Bingham is close. A minor miracle would need
to happen for Riverton not to win the region title.

Next: Riverton has a home game against Copper Hills on Jan. 27.
West Jordan plays at Kearns the same night.

Jan. 20 - Riverton 58, Hunter 9

Story of the game: Shelby Ostler scored 15 points and Chelsea
Sorensen had 13, but it was Riverton's defense that dominated
Hunter and held the Wolverines to a season low point total.

Riverton's best moment: Riverton led 19-0 after the first quarter and it
was 38-3 at halftime. This was the Silverwolves most dominating
victory of the season.

Hunter's best moment: Conversely, this was the Wolverines' worst
loss. Hunter was never in the game. It might have been interesting to
hear coach Ballard's post-game talk afterward.

Statistical notes: Hunter made three field goals and was 3-8 from the
free-throw line. Ostler had three treys for Riverton, whose previous
best defensive effort was 23 points given up to Weber.

What we learned from this game: There is a huge discrepancy
between Riverton and the rest of the region. It seems only Bingham
might be able to give the Silverwolves a decent game.

Next: Riverton goes to West Jordan on Jan. 22. Hunter will try to
rebound with a home game against
Kearns the same night.

Jan. 15 - Riverton 49, Bingham 34

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 21 points and Chelsea
Sorensen had 14, but it was Riverton's defense that made the
difference in the Silverwolves' win over Bingham in their first Region 3
showdown.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves went to Bingham and
gained respect immediately by taking a 10-4 first-quarter lead. After
Bingham narrowed it, they slowly built the lead again.

Bingham's best moment: The Miners' offense had trouble, as shown
by their 34 points. They fell behind early, but an 11-2 run in the second
quarter made it a game again. Nicole Yazzie led Bingham with eight
points.

Statistical notes: Riverton's Alle Finch had nine points and four
blocked shots. Bingham had over 20 turnovers. Lockhart was the
rebound leader with 11.

What we learned from this game: This has become a good rivalry,
but Riverton now has beaten the Miners three straight times (twice
last  year). It's Bingham's first loss this year. Let's see how hungry
Bingham becomes when they meet again Feb. 5.

Next: Riverton takes on Hunter at home on Jan. 20. Bingham plays at
Kearns the same night.

and led 33-13 at halftime, scoring mostly inside. They substituted
freely in the second half. Dani Lockhart had 11 points.

Kearns' best moment: The Cougars trailed 52-17 after three
quarters, but outscored Riverton 10-7 in the final period. Brooke
Larsen was the top scorer with 14 points.

and rolled to the non-region win.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led just 38-28 at halftime,
but came out and went on a 22-8 run in the third quarter. The team's
84 points was - by far - a season high.

Springville's best moment: The Red Devils chose to try to outscore
Riverton and kept pace for a while. Lexi Eaton finished with 21 points
and Ashley Kroneberger had 15.

Statistical notes: Springville hit 22-26 free throws; Riverton was
14-23. Alle Finch had 13 points and Shelby Ostler 11. Once again, 10
players scored for the Silverwolves.

What we learned from this game: Riverton is not just beating
opponents, but beating them badly. In doing so, it is emptying its
bench so more players gain experience.

Next: Riverton opens Region 3 play Jan. 13 at home against Kearns.
Springville goes to Payson the same night.

Dec. 31 - Riverton 59, Hurricane 32

apiece, but it was Riverton's defense that held Hurricane to eight
first-half points en route to another convincing non-region win.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led 14-2 after one quarter
and 28-8 at halftime. They emptied the bench and 10 players reached
the scoring column.

Hurricane's best moment: The Tigers finally found their offense in
the second half, where they put 24 of their 32 points. Taylor Steglich
was the leading scorer with 15 points, including three treys.

Statistical notes: Shelby Ostler had two three-pointers for Riverton.
The defense hasn't given up more than 36 points since the season
opener. Riverton was 9-17 from the free-throw line; Hurricane was
11-16.

What we learned from this game: The bus ride home had to be nice
after two dominating wins, and everyone played today. Riverton is
beating opponents by an average of 29 points per game.

Next: Riverton goes to Springville on Jan. 8. Hurricane takes on Delta
at home Jan. 3.

quarter and kept adding to the lead after that. They were never
threatened. Sorensen had 16 points, Lockhart 14 and Ostler 13.

Snow Canyon's best moment: The Warriors played well in the
second quarter, but still trailed 35-15. They scored just 10 points after
that. Sundin and Moore had five points each for Snow Canyon.

Riverton's defense. Snow Canyon had just six baskets. Ostler had

non-region win over Bear River.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led 20-9 at halftime, and
just extended it throughout the second half. Riverton held Bear River
to just eight field goals in the game.

Bear River's best moment: The Bears were never in the game. Bear
River dropped to 6-3. Jessa Jeppeson had eight points to lead the
team in scoring.

Statistical notes: This was - by far - Bear River's lowest scoring

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart scored 15 points and Bri Campbell
had 14 as Riverton blew out Alta in the first quarter and never looked
back.

leading scorers, the Silverwolves had balanced scoring. Nine players
scored as they were able to empty their bench.

Alta's best moment: Riverton led 25-5 after the first quarter and 38-18
at halftime, meaning the Hawks matched in the second quarter. That
was the only time. McKenzie Morrison had 12 points for Alta.

Statistical notes: Ashley Hildreth added 10 for Riverton, and Shelby
Ostler and Chelsea Sorensen had nine each. The 35-point win was
Riverton's biggest this year.

What we learned from this game: Riverton stayed unbeaten with the
win, and was impressive, too, on the road.

travels to Weber the day before.

Dec. 16 - Riverton 64, Taylorsville 36

Story of the game: Dani Lockhart and Shaye Murphy scored 13 points
apiece as Riverton did it again - dominated the first half and then
pulled away further in the third quarter - and whipped Taylorsville in a
non-region game.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves jumped to an 18-6 lead,
and held a big lead throughout the first half. They dominated the third
quarter and improved their record to 6-0, but this was their first road
game.

Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors were competitive in the
second quarter, playing almost even with Riverton, but that was all.
Athena Mauga had 14 points and Saane Lo'amanu had 10.

Statistical notes: The second quarter was the only time Taylorsville
scored in double figures. Once again, Riverton won at least by 20
points for the fifth straight time.

What we learned from this game: The Silverwolves are not just
beating teams, but dominating them. This was a big victory because it
was on the road.

Woods Cross the same night.

Story of the game: Chelsea Sorensen scored 16 points, Dani
Lockhart had 14 and Alle Finch had 13 as Riverton took a 32-20
halftime lead and then broke it open in the third quarter to beat Lone
Peak in a non-region game.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves got a balanced scoring
attack and made it apparent who was in command. This was Lone
Peak's first loss of the season.

Lone Peak's best moment: Whitney Johnson had 17 points for Lone
Peak, who had drubbed every opponent prior to this game.

Statistical notes: Lone Peak had just nine field goals in the game.
This was - by far - their lowest scoring output this season. Riverton
was 10-14 from the free-throw line. Lone Peak was 15-21.

What we learned from this game: Once again, Riverton's defense
ruled. Lone Peak is also a good 5A team and was never in this game.

Next: Riverton goes to Taylorsville on Dec. 16. Lone Peak will play in
the Nike tourney in Phoenix, Ariz., starting Dec. 17.
