Story of the game: Steven Cordova scored 23 points and Steven
Larson had 20 as Copper Hills wore down Taylorsville and clinched
third place in Region 3.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors tried to rally behind Stevie
McCloyn's 20 points. He also had four of Taylorsville's six
three-pointers. Yai Ajak had six points.
Copper Hills' best moment: Cordova and Larson had a great
outside-inside game, and this was one of the Grizzlies' best efforts.
Copper Hills jumped to a nine-point lead in the first quarter and the
then hit enough free throws to extend the lead late in the game.
Statistical notes: Copper Hills swept the season series. The
Grizzlies shot 15-22 from the free-throw line, while Taylorsville was
just 3-11. Cordova had three treys for Copper Hills.
What we learned from this game: The Warriors lost their sixth
straight and now need a miracle to reach the postseason. That
involves beating Bingham. In all likelihood, it will rest in a tiebreaker
with Kearns.

Feb. 12 - Kearns 57, Taylorsville 53
Story of the game: Andrew Lokeni scored 15 points as Kearns
rallied past Taylorsville to win the Region 3 game and keep its 5A
postseason hopes alive.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors had balanced scoring, but
dropped their fourth straight game and are tied with Kearns at the
bottom of the standings. Wesley Wright topped Taylorsville with 11
points.
Kearns' best moment: The game was tied 27-27 at halftime and
then took a small lead. Dalton Noble added 11 points and Marino
Moore 10. The Cougars shot poorly from the free-throw line, but it
didn't hurt them.
Statistical notes: Kearns shot 16-30 from the free-throw line.
Sammy Sweat had eight points for Kearns, including a pair of
three-pointers.
What we learned from this game: Taylorsville had postseason
potential a couple of weeks ago and has now fallen into a tie for the
region cellar.

Feb. 9 - Riverton 60, Taylorsville 46
Story of the game: Garrett Gundestrup scored 18 points and Breiden
Gamble came off the bench and nailed three big three-pointers as
Riverton downed Taylorsville in a Region 3 game.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors' quick perimeter players -
Stevie McCloyn and Gabe Bloomfield - harassed Riverton the whole
game. McCloyn also finished with 14 points and Bloomfield 10.
Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves led most of the game,
and Gamble played a big role in the second quarter with
back-to-back three-pointers that helped Riverton build a nine-point
lead. Riverton hit 6-6 free throw in the final minute to extend the
margin.
Statistical notes: Riverton shot 57.1 percent for the game, while
Taylorsville hit just 37 percent. Riverton outrebounded Taylorsville
29-22.
What we learned from this game: Taylorsville dropped its third
straight game and may miss the postseason.

Feb. 5 - West Jordan 52, Taylorsville 49
Story of the game: Jordan Loveridge scored 16 points and Jesse
Herrin added 10 as West Jordan held off Taylorsville in a Region 3
battle.
West Jordan's best moment: The game was close throughout, but
West Jordan's 20-23 effort from the free-throw line made the
difference. Jordan Pryor had nine points and Tyler Keisel had a
season-high eight.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors battled throughout and got
18 points each from Stevie McCloyn and Andrew Togiai. Taylorsville
had a chance to tie the game late, but McCloyn's three-pointer
missed.
Statistical notes: Herrin and McCloyn each had two three-pointers
for their teams. West Jordan won the season series, but both games
were close.
What we learned from this game: West Jordan climbed back into
sole possession of second place with the win. The next two games
will be interesting.

Jan. 29 - Copper Hills 76, Taylorsville 64
Story of the game: Steven Larson proved to be unstoppable again,
scoring 25 points as Copper Hills whipped Taylorsville for its third
straight Region 3 win.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors put together a huge rally in
the fourth quarter, scoring half of their points. Stevie McCloyn and
Brady Wright finished with 16 points. Andrew Togiai had 11.
Copper Hills' best moment: The Grizzlies led from the start and had
a 41-17 advantage at halftime. Coach Smith substituted freely in the
fourth quarter, but 11 different players scored. This was one of the
team's best overall games this year.
Statistical notes: Copper Hills put together another good offensive
effort, while Taylorsville's defense has been thrashed lately. Josh
Powel had three treys for Copper Hills.
What we learned from this game: This should have been a
winnable game, but the Warriors didn't put up any defense. If things
don't change, they still might make the postseason, but face a tough
opening-round opponent.

Jan. 26 - Bingham 76, Taylorsville 46
Story of the game: Ben Clifford scored 17 points and Ty Hannay had
15, but it was Bingham's defense that keyed the Miners' convincing
win over Taylorsville in a Region 3 game.
Taylorsville's best moment: This was one of the Warriors' worst
losses of the year. Brady Wright and Stevie McCloyn led the team in
scoring with 12 points and Andrew Togiai had 11.
Bingham's best moment: The Miners dominated from the start,
taking a 13-2 first-quarter lead and expanded the margin to 24 points
by halftime. Shad Sommerville added 12 points and Logan Parker 10.
Statistical notes: The Miners dominated play inside, but were able to
empty their bench in this game. Wright had four treys for Taylorsville.
The Warriors scored just nine points in the first half.
What we learned from this game: After two big wins, the Warriors
couldn't keep up with Bingham, and that was evident from the start.

Jan. 22 - Taylorsville 84, Kearns 81 (2OT)
Story of the game: Andrew Togiai had a career-high 33 points, and
Yai Ajak grabbed three key rebounds late in the game as Taylorsville
edged Kearns for its second straight Region 3 win.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors tied the game in the third
quarter after facing an 8-point deficit at intermission. Stevie McCloyn
added 19 points and Wesley Wright 12. Taylorsville made 12
three-point baskets.
Kearns' best moment: The Cougars trailed 19-15 after one quarter,
but outscored Taylorsville 22-10 to take an eight-point halftime lead.
Dalton Noble had a season-best 26 points and Andrew Lokeni 22.
Statistical notes: Sammy Sweat had 16 points for Kearns, including
five of the team's 11 three-pointers. Kearns made 14-17 free throws,
while Taylorsville was just 16-30.
What we learned from this game: Fantastic game. One of the best
of the season anywhere. Taylorsville captured its second straight
region contest.

Jan. 19 - Taylorsville 49, Riverton 47
Story of the game: Stevie McCloyn scored 14 points and Dylon
Metters had 12 as Taylorsville held off Riverton and earned its first
region victory in more than two years.
Taylorsville's best moment: This was a huge win for the Warriors,
but it wasn't easy. They never quit, even after Riverton grabbed the
momentum. Wesley Wright added eight points, including a pair of
three-pointers.
Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves trailed 26-17 at halftime,
but roared out of the locker room in the third period and took the lead.
The game went back-and-forth until the end. Matt Hess and Bronson
Schroeder had 14 points each.
Statistical notes: Metters and Riverton's Jordan Galley each tied
their season highs. Garrett Gunderstrup had just two points. Both
teams shot about the same from the free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: Taylorsville's season changed
with this game. The Warriors went from the cellar and now can
challenge for a playoff berth. Let's hope they see that, too.

Jan. 15 - West Jordan 64, Taylorsville 60
Story of the game: Jordan Pryor scored 19 points as West Jordan
built an early lead and held off Taylorsville in a Region 3 game.
Taylorsville's best moment: Brady and Wesley Wright had big nights
scoring. Brady Wright had 17 points, including five three-pointers, as
the Warriors rallied in the final period. Wesley Wright had 12 points.
West Jordan's best moment: The Jaguars built a 22-14 margin the
opening period. Andre Ashton had 14 points and Jaxon Knighton 10.
Statistical notes: Both teams shot about 70 percent from the
free-throw line. Taylorsville made eight three-pointers, but the
Warriors didn't do much inside. Stevie McCloyn had seven points.
What we learned from this game: The Warriors lost their fourth
straight game and now haven't won a region contest in two years.

Dec. 29 - Olympus 76, Taylorsville 50
Story of the game: Nicholas Paulos scored 21 points and helped
Olympus dominate the second and fourth quarters, and that was
enough to bury Taylorsville in a non-region game.
Taylorsville's best moment: Stevie McCloyn led Taylorsville with 19
points, while Dylan Metters had 12. The Warriors had a nice rally in
the third period but fell apart at the end.
Oly's best moment: The Titans outscored Taylorsville 21-3 in the
second quarter to take a 17-point halftime lead. After the Warriors
rallied, Oly put it away with a 31-point effort in the final period. Connor
Brady added 18 points.
Statistical notes: Oly made 12 three-point baskets, led by Paulos
with four. Taylorsville hit 12-14 free throws. Oly was 8-13.
What we learned from this game: The Warriors dropped their third
straight and now have over two weeks to prepare for the Region 3
season.

Dec. 22 - Judge Memorial 55, Taylorsville 41
Story of the game - Zach Myaer scored 14 points, and was a
passing maniac with nine assists, as Judge Memorial turned back
Taylorsville in a non-region game.
Taylorsville's best moment - The Warriors trailed in the first quarter,
but rallied for 21 points in the second period to tie the game at
halftime. Stevie McCloyn finished with 11 points and Andrew Togiai
had 10.
Judge Memorial's best moment - Judge played three good quarters,
including both quarters in the second half, and won going away.
Judge had a big advantage in fouls, too. Will Whitt had a nice game
with 12 points and nine rebounds and Basil Vetas nailed three treys.
Statistical notes - Judge was 12-19 from the free-throw line.
Taylorsville was 2-4. Judge outscored the Warriors 28-14 in the
second half. Taylorsville's 41 points was a season low.
What we learned from this game - The second half was a game of
defense, and Judge won. Taylorsville lost its second straight and
goes into Christmas with a 5-4 record. The schedule gets tough from
now on.

Dec. 18 - Hillcrest 66, Taylorsville 56
Story of the game - Bridger Dallimore scored 18 points and James
Jongejan had a season-high 15 as Hillcrest pulled away from
Taylorsville late in the game to earn the non-region win.
Taylorsville's best moment - The Warriors trailed just 35-33 at
halftime. Andrew Togiai led the way with 18 points, including four
three-pointers. Stevie McCloyn chipped in 14.
Hillcrest's best moment - Jongejan's play was desperately needed,
and he played his best game of the season - to date. Dallimore had
four treys for the Huskies, who ended a two-game losing streak.
Statistical notes - Hillcrest won it from the free-throw line, hitting
18-24 shots. Taylorsville was just 6-12. There were 15 three-point
baskets in the game. Hillcrest beat Taylorsville for the 11th straight
time.
What we learned from this game - This could have been a winnable
game, but Hillcrest got more than expected from its center. Yai Ajak
has to be able to make more a difference inside.

Dec. 15 - Taylorsville 60, Murray 59
Story of the game - Stevie McCloyn's free throw with 1.8 seconds left
was the different as Taylorsville held off rival Murray, despite a
25-point effort by the Spartans' David Collette.
Taylorsville's best moment - This game was close, and had a lot of
intensity throughout. Brady Wright had 16 points, Andrew Togiai 15
and Jackson Roper came through with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
McCloyn had just six points, but it was enough.
Murray's best moment - The 6-foot-7 Collette had his way inside,
and put together his best game of the season. Murray trailed 25-20 at
halftime, but rallied in the third period. Cade Bullough added 15
points.
Statistical notes - Both teams shot about 70 percent from the
free-throw line. Roper's game was his best this year - to date. What
happened to C Yai Ajak? There were no stats on him in this game.
What we learned from this game - This was a great win for the
Warriors, who improved to 3-1 at home and 5-2 overall. Good teams
win close games.

Dec. 12 - Taylorsville 47, Cyprus 44
Story of the game - Stevie McCloyn had one of his best games of the
season as Taylorsville built a big lead and then held off Cyprus to
win third place in the Jordan Holiday Classic.
Taylorsville's best moment - The Warriors' defense put the clamps
on the Pirates in the third period, holding them to just two points and
made a nice effort after the previous night's loss. McCloyn finished
with 18 points. Andrew Togiai had 12.
Cyprus' best moment - The Pirates trailed 35-20 entering the final
period, but rallied behind Marquis Newman (22 points) and Isaac
Johnson (13 points) to cut the margin and make it exciting at the end.
Statistical notes - Cyprus was 17-25 from the free-throw line.
Taylorsville was 9-16. Cyprus outscored Taylorsville 24-12 in the final
period. Jordan beat Riverton in the later game to win the title.
What we learned from this game - This was a good win after a
disappointing game the night before. McCloyn is one of the team's
leaders and showed it in this game.

Dec. 11 - Jordan 75, Taylorsville 45
Story of the game - Joe Mero scored 22 points and Kevin Goldsmith
had 18 as Jordan dominated Taylorsville early and went on to earn
an easier-than-expected victory in the first round of the Jordan
Holiday Classic.
Taylorsville's best moment - The Warriors didn't show up. They
trailed 43-18 by halftime and were never in the game. Stevie McCloyn
had 14 points and Andrew Togiai 13. Taylorsville played even with
Jordan in the second half, but it wasn't enough.
Jordan's best moment - Mero had the hot hand from outside (six
three-pointers) and Steve Morgan had a season-high 11 assists in
the game. Jordan emptied its bench and started its tournament in a
good way.
Statistical notes - Jordan's 75 points was - by far - a season high.
Nate Monson added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds. The
big quarter was the second, when Jordan outscored Taylorsville 24-7.
What we learned from this game - The Warriors saw their
three-game win streak end. They need to bring their "A" game each
night. Jordan probably elevated its game after losing both contests in
its tournament last year.

Dec. 8 - Taylorsville 61, Woods Cross 54
Story of the game: Stevie McCloyn had a nice game, scoring 16
points, passing out five assists and grabbing four rebounds as
Taylorsville turned up its offensive effort in the second half and beat
Woods Cross in a non-region game.
Wood Cross's best moment: The Wildcats led for most of the first
half. Austin Bankowski was easily the top scorer for Woods Cross
with a season-high 23 points.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors scored 43 of their 61
points in the second half. Brady Wright had 15 points, Andrew Togiai
11 and Jackson Roper 10.
Statistical notes: Taylorsville hit 11-15 free throws, compared to
Woods Cross's 8-17. Both teams had six three-pointers. Wright had
the most with three.
What we learned from this game: This was a winnable game, but
Taylorsville had the inside-outside game that was the difference,
especially in the second half.

Story of the game - Brady Wright scored 18 points, including five
treys, as Taylorsville blew out Hunter with a big second quarter and
claimed the non-region victory.
Hunter's best moment - The Wolverines rallied in the second half,
but couldn't put a dent into the deficit. Peter Fuimaona had 11 points
and Brandon Peterson added 10.
Taylorsville's best moment - The Warriors outscored Hunter 20-6 in
the second quarter and claimed a 31-19 halftime advantage. Andrew
Togiai had 13 points and Stevie McCloyn 10.
Statistical notes - Taylorsville Center Yai Ajak had his best game
and had seven points and eight rebounds. Fuimaona had two of
Hunter's four treys.
What we learned from this game - Taylorsville improved to 2-1 with
the win, and played its best defensive game of the season.

Dec. 1 - Taylorsville 82, Granger 77 (2 OT)
Story of the game - Stevie McCloyn scored 19 points and Andrew
Togiai had 18 as Taylorsville rallied with a big fourth quarter and
edged Grantsville in double overtime.
Granger's best moment - The Lancers led 19-6 after the first quarter
and led until Taylorsville managed to send it into overtime. Bakata
Justin had a career-high 25 points Austin Scott had 21, including
three treys.
Taylorsville's best moment - he Warriors had a better offensive
game than the opener. Justin Roper added 13 points and Gabe
Bloomfield and Brady Wright had nine more. This was a great
momentum boost for the Warriors.
Statistical notes - Taylorsville outscored Granger 22-10 in the fourth
period, and both teams had 15 points in the first overtime. Granger
scored just 19 points in the second half.
What we learned from this game - The Lancers had this one get
away. However, they are finding a lot more offense, especially from
Scott, who has played well in both games to date.

Nov. 24 - Cottonwood 56, Taylorsville 53
Story of the game - Raymond Chavez scored 17 points, and led
Cottonwood's outside shooting effort, as the Colts held on to beat
Taylorsville in the season opener for both teams.
Taylorsville's best moment - The Warriors played without 6-7 center
Yai Ajak, who reportedly had a death in his family, and missed his
inside presence. Andrew Togiai led with 15 points, followed by
Wesley Wright (14) and Brady Wright (13).
Cottonwood's best moment - The Colts trailed early, but opened the
second quarter with an 8-0 spurt to take the lead for good. Chavez
had three treys, and led Cottonwood's 9-16 effort from three-point
range. Tim Glenn also had a key basket near the end.
What we learned from this game - Taylorsville made a nice run at
Cottonwood near the end but it wasn't enough. Coach Ron Burnside
said he has a different team with Ajak on the court. We'll have to wait
and see.
