Taylorsville's Sister Act
Judge's loss proves to be Taylorsville's big gain

There is no physical attachment forcing sisters Sanne and Siu Lo'amanu together, but that doesn't mean
they were about to let anything come between them.
After two years at Judge Memorial, Sanne was put in a difficult position. With a new administration at Judge
that was unable to accommodate Siu with a scholarship, Sanne gave up hers and enrolled at Taylorsville
High School alongside her sister. The news was the best the girls' basketball team at Taylorsville could
ever hope to receive heading into this season.
The typical reaction one might expect from a teenage girl moving from one school to another is of sheer
horror. It's the worst thing that could possibly happen to most. Not for Sanne though; not when it means she
gets to be with her sister.
"I didn't mind at all," said Sanne. "I liked it; it's just things changed.
"I was on a scholarship over there, so I wasn't sure if my sister was going to get in, with the new principal,
so I decided to come back here so I could be with my sister."
For the Warriors, Sanne's addition, on top of getting Siu as a freshman, has meant the difference between
being an also-ran and a contender in Region 2. Between the two of them, the sisters have brought
consistency to a team that had otherwise been pretty uneven.
"We have a pretty good team, we've just been off to a rocky start", said Sanne. "We've been losing games
that we shouldn't. We kind of need to rebuild and get on the same page."
"We've been up and down a lot," said coach Jaze Hynas. "Siu and Sanne have pulled through, though.
They've become consistent enough that I can count on what they'll do."
To get to that point has taken some time for the Lo'amanus, though. They put in their time with club teams,
such as the Salt Lakers this summer, to bring their game to the level it's at. They were even able to get
some experience with Taylorsville, playing on the same team with senior Athena Mauga, although they
weren't aware she would soon be their teammate.
This season has been a rewarding one for other reasons as well. For Sanne, an ACL tear and subsequent
surgery ended most of her season last year. As for Siu, she's been thrown right into an important role in her
first season playing at the varsity level. It is something she has taken to heart.
"For me to start, it's a whole new thing, and to be a leader on the court, it's been fun," said Siu.
College is far away from Siu, but it's nearly time for Sanne to start considering what she may want to be do
after next year. Where that might lead, she's not sure. Warmer weather and less snow is calling her to the
west coast, although the possibility of staying in Utah under the right circumstances hasn't been ruled out.
There's just one requirement for the school of her choice: a basketball program.
"Yeah, I definitely want to play basketball [in college]," said Sanne.
