Feb. 26 - Tooele 74, Payson 71

Story of the game: Tanner Stuart scored 17 points and helped
Tooele's second-half rally that allowed the Buffaloes to finish the
season on a high note with a Region 7 victory.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes trailed at halftime, but Jordan
Clemente's basket gave them a 68-67 lead, and then Tooele hit 6-7
free throws in the final minutes to hang on to the win. Boone Baird
added 13 points and Taylor Hunt 12.

Payson's best moment: The Lione were playing at home, and
hoping for their first region win. It didn't happen, but they put on a
good show. Payson hit 12 three-point baskets, led most of the
game and still had a chance to win until a last-second turnover. B.J.
Ford finished with 16 points.

Statistical notes: Overall, there were 20 three-point baskets in this
game, and Tooele's 74 points of offense was a season high. It was
Tooele's first road win since the season opener. Tooele hit 22-25
free throws.

What we learned from this game: At 7-14, it wasn't a winning
season, but it had plenty of high notes. Tooele made progress, and
next year will be a different region.

Next: Both teams have completed their seasons.

Feb. 20 - Mountain View 59, Tooele 38

Story of the game: Adam Lewis scored 11 of his 15 points in the
first half, when Mountain View grabbed a big lead, and the Bruins
went on to handle Tooele and officially end the Buffaloes'
post-season hopes.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes were never in this game.
They matched up well in the fourth quarter, but the game was
already decided. Jake Dalton was Tooele's top scorer with 13
points.

Mountain View's best moment: The Bruins took a 19-6 lead in the
first quarter, and were never seriously challenged. Mike Millgate and
Scott Moake added 10 points each for Mountain View.

Statistical notes: Dalton had three of Tooele's four three-pointers.
Mountain View had six baskets from long range. Mountain View led
46-24 entering the final quarter. The Bruins swept the season
series.

What we learned from this game: Tooele has just one game left.
This game showed the Buffaloes' weakness of not being able to
win on the road. Tooele won its road opener - at Grantsville - but
has been beaten handily by all Region 7 opponents away.

Next: Tooele finishes the season at Payson Feb. 26. Mountain View
travels to Orem the same night.

Feb. 17 - Provo 51, Tooele 28

Story of the game: Brandon Davies scored 22 points as Provo
pulled away from Tooele in the second half and stayed unbeaten in
a Region 7 game.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes stayed with Provo during a
defensive-minded first half. The score was close the final minute of
the second quarter. Tanner Stuart had 10 points for Tooele.

Provo's best moment: Davies scored 13 of Provo's 19 points in
the first half. The Bulldogs outscored Tooele 32-14 in the second
half to put the game away. Kyle Collinsworth added 10 points.

Statistical notes: Both teams made just two three-pointers as
Provo covered the perimeter well. Tooele tried to slow the pace, and
couldn't keep up with the Bulldogs in the second half.

What we learned from this game: This was the last home game of
the season for Tooele. Officially, the Buffaloes still have a chance at
post-season, but only if Mountain View loses its last three games.

Next: Tooele plays at Mountain View Feb. 20. Provo plays host to
Springville the same night.

Feb. 10 - Timpview 73, Tooele 44

Story of the game: Bronson Kaufusi scored 18 points and Tanner
Brockbank had 17 as Timpview grabbed a big lead early and went
on to blow out Tooele in a Region 7 game.

Tooele's best moment: Trailing 23-7 after the first quarter, the
Buffaloes rallied to pull within 10 points at halftime. Taylor Hunt and
Boone Baird had nine points each for Tooele, which saw its
two-game win streak end.

Timpview's best moment: The Thunderbirds took a big lead early
and then, after Tooele rallied, dominated the second half. Timpview
outscored Tooele 40-21after halftime.

Statistical notes: Brockbank had four of Timpview's six three-point
baskets. The Buffaloes had five treys. Both teams shot free throws
well.

What we learned from this game: Tooele has still has
post-season hopes, but they are bleak, especially when looking at
the remaining schedule.

Next: Tooele plays at Springville Feb. 13. Timpview has Provo at
home the same night.

Feb. 3 - Tooele 57, Orem 44

Story of the game: Boone Baird led a balanced scoring attack with
13 points as Tooele used the three-point shot and its quick defense
to surprise Orem in a Region 7 game.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes won their second straight
home game with an energetic defense that seemed to find most of
the loose balls. Tooele also hit eight three-pointers and had a lot of
confidence shooting.

Orem's best moment: The Tigers rallied from a 13-point deficit in
the fourth quarter to 49-42, but that was as close as they got.
Orem's only offensive threat was 6-10 center Ian Harward, who had
20 points.

Statistical notes: Tanner Stuart added 12 points and John Hunt
and Jake Dalton had 11. Tooele hit 15-20 free throws, while Orem
was 8-13.

What we learned from this game: Tooele has a great home-court
advantage and played a nice game to beat Orem. The Buffs
showed their quickness and had great outside shooting to earn
their second region win.

Next: Tooele takes on Timpview at home Feb. 10. Orem plays
Timpview on Feb. 6.

Jan. 30 - Tooele 52, Payson 50 (OT)

Story of the game: Tanner Stuart scored 14 points and Jake Dalton
had 12 as Tooele got plenty of good outside shooting and held off
Payson for its first-ever Region 7 victory.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes trailed 14-6 after the first
quarter, but rallied to take the lead at halftime. They had to do the
same thing in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 46-46. The
Buffs hit nine three-pointers and were 13-15 from the free-throw line.

Payson's best moment: The Lions were deadly from outside as
well, nailing 10 three-pointers. A big third quarter gave them a
six-point lead, which they could not hold. B.J. Ford had 12 points
and Ryan Reid 10.

Statistical notes: The win ended Tooele's nine-game losing streak,
and also moved the Buffs out of last place. They're now 4-4 in home
games. Payson was 6-12 from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: This was a big win for Tooele,
and it's another example that this team can compete with some of
the other Region 7 schools. The next step is to win on the road.

Next: Tooele plays host to Orem on Feb. 3. Payson has Provo at
home the same night.

Jan. 23 - Provo 58, Tooele 26

Story of the game: Beau Hunter scored 16 points and Kyle
Collinsworth had 14 as Provo stayed unbeaten and kept its No. 1
ranking alive with an easy Region 7 win over Tooele.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes never had a chance to win,
but they played Provo evenly in the fourth quarter to make the score
more agreeable. Taylor Hunt had seven points, including a pair of
three-pointers.

Provo's best moment: The Bulldogs dominated from the
beginning, taking a 16-7 first-quarter lead and extending it to 33-12
at halftime. Scott Frandsen added 11 points for Provo, now 14-0.

Statistical notes: Provo hit just 9-23 free throws; Tooele was 6-13.
Tooele had just nine field goals. Tooele's 26 points was a season
low - by far.

What we learned from this game: Tooele dropped to 0-4 in region
with the loss. Provo will likely win the region and be the top seed in
the upcoming 4A state tournament.

Next: Tooele returns home to play Mountain View Jan. 27. Provo
goes to Springville the same night.

Jan. 20 - Springville 65, Tooele 61 (2 OT)

Story of the game: Alex Mortensen scored 25 points as Springville
rallied to beat Tooele on its home floor and stay unbeaten in
Region 7 play.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes rode the hot-shooting hand
of Jake Dalton and led for most of regulation. The teams played
great defense down the stretch and went into OT tied 47-47. Tanner
Stuart finished with 24 points. Jordan Clemente added 10.

Springville's best moment: Tooele could have easily upset
Springville, but the Red Devils won this game because of their
free-throw shooting, where they were 33-35. Dan Foster added 14
points.

Statistical notes: Tooele led 17-12 after one quarter and 31-29 at
halftime. The Buffaloes nailed 17-22 of their free throws. Dalton's
24 points was a season high.

What we learned from this game: Tooele fell to 0-3 with the loss.
This was a winnable game and there won't be many of those in
Region 7 play.

Next: Tooele travels to Provo Jan. 23. Springville plays Orem at
home the same night.

Jan. 16 - Timpview 61, Tooele 40

Story of the game: Bronson Kaufusi scored 19 points and pulled
down 11 rebounds as Timpview toppled Tooele in a Region 7
game.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes trailed 11-4 after the first
quarter, but played pretty evenly with Timpview until the final period.
Tanner Stuart had 16 points for Tooele, and Boone Baird added 11.

Timpview's best moment: Kaufusi was the primary inside threat,
and the Thunderbirds substituted freely as 11 different players
scored. No other players reached double figures.

Statistical notes: Timpview outscored Tooele 25-14 in the final
period, yet was only 4-9 from the free-throw line for the game.

What we learned from this game: This was Tooele's sixth straight
loss and, for the second straight game, Tooele really wasn't
competitive against a Region 7 opponent. That's not a good sign.

Next: Tooele plays at home for the first time since Dec. 12 - taking
on Springville on Jan. 20. Timpview travels to Provo the same night.

Jan. 9 - Orem 61, Tooele 39

Story of the game: Jake Green scored 17 points and Ian Harward
came alive in the second half and had 14 points and 13 rebounds
as Orem pulled away from Tooele in the third quarter and grabbed
the victory in their Region 7 opener.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes played right with Orem until
the Tigers went on an 11-0 run in the third period. Tanner Stuart had
19 points, which was his best game since the season opener.

Orem's best moment: Green and Harward were a great
combination, and Orem also got some fast-break points during its
big run. Green had four three-pointers for Orem, which remained
unbeaten.

Statistical notes: Orem ended up outscoring Tooele 21-7 in the
third quarter. Tooele's 39 points was a season low. Taylor Hunt had
nine points for the Buffaloes. Orem finished with seven three-point
baskets.

What we learned from this game: Orem is one of the top teams in
4A and Tooele played right with him for a while. Tooele started
region play against one of the favorites. It should be downhill from
here.

Next: Tooele travels to Timpview on Jan. 16. Orem plays Timpview
on Jan. 13.

Dec. 30 - Timpanogos 50, Tooele 44

No information available

Dec. 29 - Juan Diego 43, Tooele 40

Story of the game: Tyler Bauman scored 18 points and Tooele
missed a last-second shot that could have tied the game on the
second day of the LHS/CVE Holiday Classic in Logan.

Tooele's best moment: Taylor Hunt and Boone Baird led Tooele's
second-half rally. Baird hit two consecutive three-pointers late in the
game to close the gap to 41-40. Baird tried another trey at the end,
but it hit the front rim and bounced off.

Juan Diego's best moment: Juan Diego led 20-12 at halftime, and
hit 13-16 free throws, many down the stretch, that allowed the
Soaring Eagle to hang on to the win. Anthony Rainaldi added 10
points.

Statistical notes: Tooele left a lot of points on the court by hitting
just 3-11 free throws. The Buffs also didn't shoot well from the field.
Hunt led Tooele with 13 points. Tanner Stuart had 11 and Baird 10.

What we learned from this game: This was a good win for Juan
Diego as it ended a three-game losing streak, and helped erase
memories of the Soaring Eagle's loss to Pleasant Grove.

Next: Tooele will take on Timpanogos tonight on the last day of the
tournament.
Juan Diego advances to play Cyprus.

Dec. 27 - Jordan 67, Tooele 45

Story of the game: Jordan Bernardo scored 17 points, including
three treys, as Jordan took the lead and whipped Tooele on the first
day of the LHS/CVE Holiday Classic in Logan.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes stayed close in the first
quarter, but didn't have the firepower to match up with Jordan.
Tanner Stuart led Tooele with 13 points.

Jordan's best moment: The Beetdiggers led 28-20 at halftime, but
then blew Cyprus out with a 22-12 third-quarter run. Colton Burgon
added 11 points, Curt Follett and Kevin Goldsmith 10 each.

Statistical notes: Nine players scored for Jordan, which ended a
three-game losing streak. The referees let the teams play as
Jordan was 6-11 from the free-throw line, and Tooele was 3-4.

What we learned from this game: Jordan had more depth than
Tooele and got back on the winning track. The Buffs have now lost
two straight games - and badly.

Next: Tooele moves into the losers brack and will take on Juan
Diego Monday (Dec. 29). Jordan advances to play Pleasant Grove.

Dec. 17 - Woods Cross 72, Tooele 45

Story of the game: Tyler Stahle scored 18 points and Tyler Hall had
15 and Woods Cross blew the game open with a big third quarter
en route to an easy non-region win over Tooele.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes hit five three-pointers in the
first half, and that kept them fairly close at 35-27 at halftime. Jake
Dalton led Tooele with nine points - all on three-pointers - and
Tanner Stuart had eight.

Woods Cross' best moment: The Wildcats outscored Tooele 20-4
in the third quarter and turned the game into a rout. Stahle scored
nine points in that span by himself.

Statistical notes: Tooele only shot three free throws in the game,
and made two. The four points were a season low in any quarter for
the Buffs. The defense also gave up a season high.

What we learned from this game: Coach Brazier said, "I'm glad we
got this game out of our system." Let's hope so.

Next: Tooele is off until Dec. 27, when it travels to Logan for a
three-day tourney. Woods Cross plays host to
Cyprus Friday (Dec.
19).

Dec. 12 - Tooele 48, Ogden 45

Story of the game: Brock Haskell scored 12 points, and got a big
steal late in the game that allowed Tanner Stuart to hit the
game-winning shot in Tooele's win over Ogden.

Tooele's best moment: This was Stuart's second straight
game-winning shot. It was also a breakout game for Haskell as
Tooele moved to 4-1 on the season.

Ogden's best moment: Tooele shot off to a big lead, but Ogden
rallied in the second quarter to tie the game. It was close after that.
Darinn Gomez led the Tigers with 12 points. Eric Porter and Nate
Kapple added 11 each.

Statistical notes: The refs let the teams play as few free throws
were attempted. Five different Tooele players hit three-point
baskets. Nik Allred had two treys for Ogden, which fell to 2-3.

What we learned from this game: Tooele's non-region schedule
has not been that difficult so far, but the Buffs are 4-1 and have
momentum. The Region 7 schedule will be difficult, so wins and
"mo" are a necessity now.

Next: Tooele travels to Woods Cross on Wednesday (Dec. 17).
Ogden goes to North Summit the same night.

Dec. 10 - Tooele 59, East 56

Story of the game: Tanner Stuart's basket with six seconds to play
gave Tooele the lead and the Buffaloes didn't give it up en route to a
narrow non-region win over East.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes made the clutch plays when
it was needed. After Stuart scored, Tooele stopped East and the
Leopards were forced to foul. Brock Haskell made both shots with
2.3 seconds left.

East's best moment: Christian Brown had 14 points for East, which
trailed 28-25 at halftime. Brown had a big third quarter as the
Leopards narrowed the margin and even led by 40-35 at one point.

Statistical notes: Tooele made 11-14 free throws, compared to 3-8
for East. Stuart and Taylor Hunt had 11 apiece for Tooele. For East,
Jeff Vargas added 12 points and Scott Paulsen 11.

What we learned from this game: This homestand is paying off
because Tooele already has three wins. The fans also appreciated
the exciting ending. That could result in bigger crowds in the future.

Next: Tooele plays host to Ogden on Friday (Dec. 12). East returns
home to take on
Copper Hills Dec. 16.

Dec. 5 - Bonneville 62, Tooele 52

Story of the game: Jace Tensmeyer scored 18 points and Tyler
Anderson had 17 as Bonneville benefited from a great
inside-outside combination and a huge foul differential to beat
Tooele on the road.

Tooele's best moment: Bonneville led 29-19 at halftime, and
Tooele kept up with the Lakers in the second half. Tanner Stuart
had 15 points and Matt Trussell put in 12.

Bonneville's best moment: The Lakers hit 31-37 free throws, which
is one of the best free-throw percentages of any Utah team this
season.

Statistical leaders: All of Tensmeyer's points came on three-point
baskets. Scott Sellars added 15 for Bonneville, which is 2-2 on the
season. J

What we learned from this game: This was a tough game to win,
with such a big foul differential.

Next: Tooele's next game is Dec. 10 at home against East.
Bonneville returns home to take on Weber Dec. 9.

Dec. 2 - Tooele 45, Kearns 37

Story of the game: Boone Baird scored 13 points, Tanner Stuart 11
and Jake Dalton 10 as Tooele took advantage of Kearns' shaky
free-throw shooting and claimed a non-region victory on its home
floor.

Tooele's best moment: This was a comeback victory. Kearns
actually led 29-28 entering the fourth quarter. That's where Tooele's
offense finally started going and outscored the Cougars 17-8.

Kearns' best moment: Fatu Moala had 13 points and Justin
Thacker 11. Kearns only scored five points in the second quarter,
but then outscored the Buffs 12-6 in the third. Must have been some
halftime talk. Too bad it didn't hold up.

Statistical leaders: Kearns was 1-9 from the free-throw line.
Tooele, meanwhile, was 10-12. That's a home-court advantage.

What we learned from this game: Tooele is off to a good start, now
2-0 on the season.

Next: Tooele has a non-region home game against Bonneville
Friday.
Kearns returns home to take on Granger the same night.

Nov. 25 - Tooele 57, Grantsville 40

Story of the game: Tanner Stuart scored 24 points and Tooele
used a 17-2 run in the last 5:52 of the game to hold off Grantsville
and its raucous home crowd in a season-opening rivalry game.

Tooele's best moment: Tooele led the entire game, but the
Cowboys rallied to within 40-38. At that point, Brock Haskell scored,
and then Matt Trussell put in five straight points to give the Buffs
some breathing room.

Grantsville's best moment: Reggie Roberts and Jacob Clonts hit
back-to-back three-point baskets to send the crowd into a frenzy as
the gap narrowed to two points. That was as close as the Cowboys
would get.

Statistical leaders: Stuart had 24, of course, and Boone Baird had
12. Roberts had 14 and Alex Childs 10 for Grantsville, who played
without Austin Gumucio, who was hurt during football season has
not yet healed.

What we learned from this game: A good win for Tooele, and wins
were rare last year. The Buffs now have four consecutive home
games.

Next: Tooele returns home to play Kearns on Dec. 2. Grantsville
has a game at Rowland Hall on Dec. 3.
