Jan. 23 - Provo 67, Tooele 22

Story of the game: Kelsey Nelson scored 14 points and Provo's
defense held Tooele scoreless in the first quarter en route to a
convincing Region 7 win.

Tooele's best moment: Trailing 57-11 after three quarters, the
Buffaloes doubled their point total in the fourth period. Sharon Lyman
and Kylee Harris had eight points each.

Provo's best moment: The Bulldogs were in command from the
start, claiming a 16-0 first-quarter lead and expanding it to 38-5 by
halftime. Ashley Kuchar had 11 points and Jessica Trewartha 10.

Statistical notes: Tooele did outshoot Provo from the free-throw line.
The Buffaloes were 6-14; Provo was 5-15. There were no three-
pointers in this game.

What we learned from this game: Every Region 7 game so far has
been decided by 22 points or more. Sadly, it's not likely to get better.

Next: Tooele goes to Mountain View Jan. 27. Provo is at Springville
the same night.

Jan. 20 - Springville 73, Tooele 19

Story of the game: Ashley Kroneberger scored 20 points as
Springville used its full-court pressure to jump to a 28-4 lead and rout
Tooele in a Region 7 game.

Tooele's best moment: Good moments were hard to find as
Springville's press forced turnovers and kept the game at a fast pace.
Becca Smaellie led Tooele with five points.

Springville's best moment: The Red Devils kept their press going
until 5:20 was left in the third quarter and they had a 51-12 lead. Lexi
Eaton had 12 points for Springville.

Statistical notes: Ten players scored for the Red Devils. The 19
points for Tooele was a season low. Springville scored 19 straight
points during the first quarter.

What we learned from this game: This team still has a long ways to
go in order to even compete against Region 7 opponents.

Next: Tooele plays at Provo Jan. 23. Springville has Orem at home
the same night.

Jan. 16 - Timpview 59, Tooele 37

Story of the game: Chelsea Bridgewater scored 24 points as
Timpview built a big lead and coasted a Region 7 win over Tooele.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes had a big rally in the fourth
quarter, outscoring Timpview 18-3 to put together their biggest
offensive output since region began. Becca Smaellie led Tooele in
scoring with 11 points.

Timpview's best moment: The Thunderbirds were never threatened.
They led 21-12 after the first quarter, and then poured it on. It was 54-
21 after three periods. MaryAnne Morrow had 13 points and Rebecca
Watson 10.

Statistical notes: The 22-point loss was Tooele's closest game in a
month. The 37-point offensive effort was also its best since Dec. 4.
Both teams shot 50 percent from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: We saw a proud effort by Tooele
in the fourth quarter. It had to be a high point so far.

Next: Tooele returns home to take on Springville Jan. 20. Timpview
plays at Provo the same night.

Jan. 9 - Orem 63, Tooele 31

Story of the game: Maggie Plothow scored 20 points and Angie
Helsten had 18 as Orem went to Tooele and handed the Buffaloes
their 11straight loss in a Region 7 game.

Tooele's best moment: Trailing 56-21, Tooele rallied in the fourth
quarter to try to make the score look more respectable. Sharon
Lyman was the top scorer with 10 points.

Orem's best moment: This was Orem's biggest win and just what it
needed after a disappointing loss to rival Mountain View. The game
was never in doubt, and the Tigers got their first region victory.

Statistical notes: Tooele was 8-13 from the free-throw line; Orem
was 5-11. Lyman has Tooele's only three-pointer. Helsten had a pair
for Orem.

What we learned from this game: Tooele fell to 0-2 in region, and
couldn't do anything to please the home crowd.

Next: Tooele has a week off before playing at Timpview Jan. 16.
Orem goes to Timpview Jan. 13.

Jan. 6 - Payson 74, Tooele 29

Story of the game: Brooke Hiatt scored 27 points as Payson opened
the Region 7 with a rout of visiting Tooele.

Tooele's best moment: Tooele was never in the game. The
Buffaloes trailed 40-18 at halftime and never mounted a rally.
Sophomore Sharon Lyman had six points for Tooele.

Payson's best moment: The Lions poured it on throughout the
game, even outscoring Tooele 34-11 in the second half. Ten different
players scored.

Statistical notes: The 45-point margin tied for worst of the season.
Tooele was 11-17 from the free-throw line; Payson was 19-32.

What we learned from this game: This was the region opener and
it's not likely to be a pretty one for Tooele.

Next: Tooele returns home to take on Orem Jan. 9. Payson plays at
Provo the same night.

Dec. 19 - Snow Canyon 86, Tooele 34

Story of the game: Taylor Barney had 17 points and eight rebounds
as Snow Canyon put this game away early and routed Tooele in a
non-region game.

Tooele's best moment: While the game was never in dispute,
Sharon Lyman scored a season-high 19 points for Tooele. The trip to
Southern Utah didn't go well as it resulted in two big losses.

Snow Canyon's best moment: The Warriors led 19-5 after one
quarter and 42-14 at halftime. They emptied the bench in the second
half 13 players scored.

Statistical notes: The 86 points was  a season high for Snow
Canyon, and the most given up by Tooele. Rylee Mulitalo had six for
Tooele.

What we learned from this game: This was a tough road trip,
playing two good teams. The loss means Tooele goes into the
Region 7 season without a win, and the region season doesn't look
too hopeful either.

Next: Tooele opens region play at Payson Jan. 6. Snow Canyon
plays host to
Riverton Dec. 30.

Dec. 18 - Pine View 76, Tooele 36

Story of the game: Alyse Saarelainen scored 14 points, but it took
until the second half before Pine View was able to blow out Tooele in
a non-region game.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes trailed 13-7 after one quarter,
but outscored Pine View 16-15 in the second period to keep it close
at halftime. Rylee Mulitalo had a season-high 15 points.

Pine View's best moment: The Panthers dominated the second half,
outscoring Tooele 48-13 to turn this game into a rout. Ten players
scored for Pine View, which emptied the bench in the final period.

Statistical notes: Pine View had 33 baskets, compared to 12 for
Tooele. The second half was a huge discrepancy. Pine View's 76
points was a season high.

What we learned from this game: It's rare to see a close game in
the first half, then such a huge difference later.

Next: Tooele plays at Snow Canyon tonight (Dec. 19). Pine View will
play Sky View tonight.

Dec. 16 - Granger 44, Tooele 34

Story of the game: Things are to back to normal for Granger as Mary
Lavekihelotu scored 13 points and Granger put together a great third
quarter to beat Tooele and end its two-game losing streak.

Tooele's best moment: Still winless Tooele had a nice defensive
effort that gave them the lead going into halftime. This was the
Buffaloes' best chance for a victory since their season opener.
Sharon Lyman led Tooele with 14 points.

Granger's best moment: Trailing 18-15, the Lancers outscored
Tooele 14-3 during the third quarter to earn a big lead. Martha Haiola
added 11 points for Granger.

Statistical notes: Granger had 15 points in the first half, then
matched it in each of the third and fourth quarters. Granger hit 7-16
free throws, which is its best percentage all season. Tooele made
just 10 baskets, but was 10-16 from the line. Lyman had a couple of
three-pointers.

What we learned from this game: Not winning is frustrating,
especially when you know it's close. Things won't get easier either.
The road trip will be tough and then comes the always-difficult
Region 7 season.

Next: Tooele travels to Southern Utah Dec. 18-19 for a two-game
road trip. Granger has a home game against Hillcrest Dec. 19.

Dec. 11 - Delta 71, Tooele 26

Story of the game: Diaz scored 13 points, S. Bliss had 12 and Burton
11 and Delta blew this game open in the second quarter and never
looked back in its rout of Tooele.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes trailed just 19-12 after the first
quarter. There was no much to cheer about after that as Tooele was
held to less than 30 points for the third time in six games.

Delta's best moment: The Rabbits blew this game open by
outscoring Tooele 22-5 in the second quarter, and then 16-4 in the
third period.

Statistical notes: Twelve players scored for Delta, which emptied its
bench in the second half. The Rabbits improved to 3-2. Tooele was
just 4-16 from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: This was Tooele's worst loss of
the season and now, at 0-6, it appears one win might be difficult.

Next: Tooele returns home to take on Granger on Dec. 16. Delta
plays
Grantsville at home the same night.

with 10 points as Logan built a big lead early and downed Tooele in
a non-region game.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes fell behind early, but never
gave up. Logan only outscored Tooele 37-30 after the first quarter.
Sharon Lyman led Tooele with 12 points.

Logan's best moment: The Grizzlies got their second win by jumping
to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter. They were able to empty their
bench after that.

Statistical notes:  The Buffs were 8-23 from the free-throw line. This
was Logan's first road game, and it passed the test easily.

What we learned from this game: Tooele has only played in one
close game this season, and remains winless at 0-5.

Next: Tooele plays at Delta Dec. 11. Logan returns home to take on
4A power Sky View the same night.

Dec. 4 - Highland 59, Tooele 46

Story of the game: Chanel Roe scored 26 points and Highland
controlled the middle two quarters and held on to beat Tooele in a
non-region game.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes were in control in the first
quarter, which had to give them a lot of confidence. Tooele played
evenly with Highland in the fourth period, but the game was decided
by then.

Highland's best moment: The Rams trailed 16-11 after one period,
and then dominated. They took the lead at halftime, then built a big
lead after three quarters. Kave’ Lea’aetoa had 11 for Highland.

Statistical notes: Both teams shot around 50 percent from the free-
throw line. Tooele dropped to 0-4 with the loss. Highland held the
Buffaloes to just five points in the third quarter.

What we learned from this game: It was Tooele's fourth straight
loss but the 46 points was a season high. Wins won't be easy for the
Buffaloes this season.

Next: Tooele has a home game against Logan Dec. 9. Highland
goes to
Lehi Dec. 11.

Dec. 3 - Murray 45, Tooele 24

Story of the game: Mariah Duran scored 18 points and Murray blew
out Tooele in both the first and third quarters en route to a convincing
win in the Spartans' season opener.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
Tooele simply had trouble scoring in this game. Sharon Lyman had
five points for Tooele.

Murray's best moment: Murray led 12-5 after the first quarter, and 23-
15 at halftime. The Spartans then outscored Tooele 15-5 in the third
period.

Statistical notes: The 23 points was a season low for the Buffs, and
would have be a low for the entire season last year.  Duran had two
three-pointers for Murray.

What we learned from this game: This was a winnable game, but
Tooele just didn't bring any offense. If things don't improve soon, this
will be a long season.

Next: Tooele takes on Highland tonight (Dec. 4) at home. Murray has
Judge Memorial at home Dec. 5.

Dec. 2 - Box Elder 61, Tooele 29

Story of the game: Kelly Farr scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds
as Box Elder jumped to a 16-2 lead and whipped Tooele in a non-
region game.

Tooele's best moment: Not sure there was one, but at least the
Buffaloes matched Box Elder in scoring in the fourth quarter. Sharon
Lyman had eight points to lead Tooele.

Box Elder's best moment: The Bees had this game won early and
earned their first victory of the season. Box Elder was able to empty
its bench. Eleven players scored for the Bees.

Statistical notes: Tooele had trouble scoring, and didn't reach
double figures until almost halftime. Kylee Harris and Kelcey
Stephenson had six points apiece. The referees let the teams play
as only 14 free throws were attempted the entire game.

What we learned from this game: Tooele dropped to 0-2 and this
game wasn't competitive. The Buffaloes may be in a rebuilding
season.

Next: Tooele takes on Murray tonight in its home opener. Box Elder
goes to Pocatello to take on Highland (Idaho).

Nov. 25 - East 44, Tooele 39

Story of the game: Laura Kruse scored 10 points and Elizabeth
Fetzer had nine as East used a big fourth quarter to beat Tooele in
the season opener for both teams.

Tooele's best moment: The Buffaloes had a nice rally in the second
quarter, coming from a nine-point deficit to take the lead. Tooele hit
23-32 free throws, which kept them in the game.

East's best moment: East seemed to have the better opportunities,
but the game was tied after three quarters. The Leopards used
balanced scoring.

Statistical notes: This game was foul-plagued as the free-throw
shooting attempts show. Sharon Lyman had a game-high 13 points
for Tooele.

What we learned from this game: Season openers can be tough,
but East almost lost this game because of its horrible free-throw
shooting (12-34).

Next: Tooele goes to Box Elder Dec. 2. East travels to Hyrum to play
in Sky View's tourney Dec. 5-6.
