Jan. 26 - Viewmont 52, Syracuse 51

Story of the game: Blake Wilkinson scored 17 points, but it was Eric
North's layup as time expired that gave Viewmont an exciting overtime
win over Syracuse in a Region 1 game.

Northridge shot 7-15.

What we learned from this game: Viewmont won its third straight

Jan. 15 - Viewmont 40, Clearfield 28

Story of the game: Sennett Fraughton led the way with 11 points, and
the Viewmont defense came up with 11 steals and downed Clearfield
in a Region 1 game.

Viewmont's best moment: Defense keyed this win in this slow-paced
contest. The Vikings led 26-20 entering the fourth quarter, but finally
pulled away. Ryan Francom had a nice game with eight points and six
rebounds.

Clearfield's best moment: The Falcons trailed the entire game, and
their offense isn't constructed to rally well. Chris Brower had nine points
and Austin Ford had seven.

Statistical notes: Both teams shot just over 50 percent from the
free-throw line. Clearfield's Daniel Johnson had the game's only
three-pointer. Viewmont had the advantage in rebounding.

What we learned from this game: The Vikings needed this win and
they continue to bounce around the middle of Region 1. Clearfield held
Wilkinson to just four points, but other players stepped up.

Story of the game: Tate Lewis led a balanced scoring attack with 13
points and Fremont shut down Viewmont's offense and cruised past
the Vikings in a Region 1 game.

being Blake Wilkinson, who scored 20 points. Viewmont trailed by 10
points entering the final quarter, but then things got out of hand.

Fremont's best moment: The Silverwolves led the entire game and
had a big advantage at the free-throw line. Jacob Nish and Patrick
Fishburn added seven points each.

Statistical notes: Viewmont shot just 8-22 from the free-throw line.

basket.

What we learned from this game: This was a chance to move to the
top of the standings and it didn't happen. Viewmont is now 2-2 and in
the middle of the pack. At some point, the Vikings will need to make
their move or face the possibility of missing the postseason.

Jan. 8 - Viewmont 57, Roy 33

Story of the game: Issac Teisina scored a season-high 16 points as
Viewmont blew out Roy in the third quarter and earned the Region 1
win.

quarter, they turned a 22-14 lead into 43-23 and the rout was on. Eric
North, Blake Wilkinson and Chase Thompson added seven points

Jan. 5 - Davis 53, Viewmont 38

Story of the game: Landon Horne scored 18 points and Trevor Webb
added 13 as Davis pulled away from Viewmont in a Region 1 game.

Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings jumped to an early lead, and
then stayed with Davis until the third period. Blake Wilkinson had a
good game inside and finished with 14 points, Coulsen Wright had 10.

Davis' best moment: Webb's basket at the end of the first quarter gave
Davis momentum and the Darts continued it by driving to the basket
and getting fouled. There was a huge foul discrepancy, and it paid off.
Josh Vanweezep had six points, and nine rebounds.

Statistical notes: Davis had more depth inside and that helped the
Darts control the key. Webb and Vanweezep had two three-pointers
each. Davis shot 22-32 from the free-throw line. Viewmont was just
5-10.

What we learned from this game: Viewmont had a chance to pull off
the upset. The home crowd was energetic, but Davis did a nice job
taking them out of the game.

Dec. 22 - Viewmont 48, Weber 29

Story of the game: Blake Wilkinson scored 14 points, and Eric North
and Cole Jones were big factors on the boards as Viewmont shut
down Weber to earn its first Region 1 victory.

Viewmont's best moment: Viewmont dominated, and did it with
defense. The Vikings led the entire game, and even held Weber to just
one point in the second quarter. The Vikings finally put the game away
with a 22-point effort in the final period.

Weber's best moment: Weber scored 21 of its 29 points in the second
half, but it wasn't enough. Trevor Bingham had four points, but pulled
down nine rebounds for the Warriors.

Statistical notes: Weber clearly isn't an offense power, but this was its
lower point total to date. Viewmont hit 19-25 free throws, compared to
4-10 for Weber. Coulsen Wright had 12 points for Viewmont. The
Vikings didn't have any three-point baskets.

What we learned from this game: Viewmont improved to 1-1 in region
and now has two weeks off. This was the Vikings' most convincing win
to date.

Dec. 15 - Syracuse 59, Viewmont 53 (OT)

Story of the game: Nick Winegar scored 17 points and pulled down 11
rebounds as Syracuse rallied in the final minutes to force overtime, and
then earn the win in each team's Region 1 opener.

came back with a big third quarter and led by five with three minutes
left. Blake Wilkinson led with 15 points and Coulsen Wright 12.

dropped to 3-3 overall.

Dec. 11 - Viewmont 62, Woods Cross 56

Story of the game: Coulsen Wright scored 17 points, including five
three-pointers, as Viewmont held off Woods Cross in a non-region
game.

Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings owned the first half and that
was the difference. Gibson Johnson had 12 points, while Sennett
Fraughton and Blake Wilkinson had eight each.

Woods Cross's best moment: The Wildcats rallied in the second, but a
35-24 deficit was too much to overcome. Austin Bankowski had 16
points and nine rebounds, while Mark Evans had 10 points and 10
boards.

Statistical notes: Woods Cross hit 14-18 free throws, while Viewmont
was 8-14. The teams combined for 15 three-pointers.

What we learned from this game: This was a rivalry game, and it
appears Viewmont will be the champ of the Bountiful city schools.

Dec. 9 - Lone Peak 61, Viewmont 44

Story of the game: Tannon Pedersen and freshman Nick Emery
scored 17 points each, but it was Lone Peak's quick defense that made
the difference as the Knights downed Viewmont in a non-region game.

Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings had turnover problems in the
first half and trailed 34-20 at intermission. But Coulsen Wright and
Chase Thompson got hot from the perimeter in the third quarter and
Viewmont made a nice run, but it wasn't enough.

Lone Peak's best moment: Viewmont led early, but Brody Berry picked
up several steals and Pedersen got hot from outside to lift the Knights
to a 16-10.

Statistical notes: This was Lone Peak's second game, and Emery
played a big role in the opener. This kid could be something special.
Wright had nine points, and Thompson and Blake Wilkinson had eight.
Viewmont made eight three-pointers.

What we learned from this game: Viewmont's first road game didn't go
well, but Lone Peak could - once again - be a 5A title contender. The 61
points given up was a season high (to date).

Dec. 8 - Viewmont 49, Bountiful 41

Story of the game: Coulsen Wright scored 16 points and Eric North
had a well-balanced game with nine points and eight rebounds as
Viewmont turned back its inner-city rival in a non-region game.

Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings had a big advantage at the
free-throw line, hitting 17-30 shots, and that was enough to hang on.
Blake Wilkinson had 10 points and five boards for Viewmont.

Bountiful's best moment: The Braves managed just 14 points in the
opening half, but turned it up after that behind 11 points by Nick
Williams. The Braves made eight three-pointers in the game.

Statistical notes: Wright was Viewmont's biggest threat from outside,
and he nailed four treys. Bountiful was just 3-10 from the free-throw
line. Viewmont was credited with 11 steals. The second half was
played pretty evenly.

What we learned from this game: The Vikings won Round 1of their
inner-city battle and take on Wood Cross in three days. The team
battled back from its first loss and a lot of players contributed.

Dec. 3 - Riverton 51, Viewmont 42

Story of the game: Adam Trujillo and Garrett Gunderstrup scored nine
points apiece as Viewmont's deep bench made a big difference in the
Silverwolves' road victory.

Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings played good defense in the
opening quarter, taking a 10-7 lead. Blake Wilkinson and Coulsen
Wright had 11 points each, and Wilkinson led with nine rebounds.

Riverton's best moment: The Silverwolves came back with a round of
threes from six different players. Their inside-outside game kept
Viewmont wondering who to cover and ended up being the difference in
this game.

Statistical notes: Matt Hess had eight points for Viewmont and was
one of 10 players who scored. Riverton outscored Viewmont 31-19 in
the middle two quarters. Revenge? Last year, Viewmont won by 10 on
Riverton's home floor.

What we learned from this game: Did Riverton do some scouting?
Wilkinson had a decent game, but wasn't the big factor he was in the
opener. Sennett Fraughton had just two points. Looks like others need
to step up.

Nov. 24 - Viewmont 62, Highland 53

night, scoring 24 points, as Viewmont rallied from an early deficit to
beat Highland in a non-region game.

Viewmont's best moment - The Vikings took the lead in the second
quarter, and Sennett Fraughton backed up Wilkinson with 16 points,
including the team's only three-pointers. Cole Jones added 10 points.

Highland's best moment - The Rams took a 13-8 lead in the first
quarter, and were only down two at halftime. Sam Orchard was the top
scorer with 18 points. Highland also had a nice rally in the final quarter,
but it wasn't enough.

Statistical notes - Viewmont had a big advantage at the free-throw line,
hitting 26-38 free throws. Highland was 12-18. The 6-foot-7 Wilkinson
had a big height advantage over Highland.

What we learned from this game - This was the season opener for
Viewmont, and the Vikings made Highland play their game. Highland's
a defense-oriented team, yet Viewmont put up 62, which it did only once
last year.
