Feb. 16 - Olympus 91, Woods Cross 60
Story of the game: Nick Paulos tied his season high with 26 points
as Olympus rallied from an early deficit to rout Woods Cross in a
Region 6 game.
WX's best moment: The Wildcats grabbed the early lead, then fell
behind and only shot 1-11 from three-point land so couldn't catch up.
Ryan Anderson scored 20 points and Cory Gerrard 14.
Oly's best moment: Trailing 6-0 early, the Titans scored 19 of next 21
points to get rolling. Oly got into a track meet, shot 59 percent for the
game, and put up 55 points in the second half. Connor Brady had 13
points and Manny Riak 12.
Statistical notes: The 91-point effort was easily's Oly's season high.
The Titans shot 9-16 from three-point land and routed Woods Cross
on the boards, 40-14. On the down side, Oly had 22 turnovers
compared to nine for Woods Cross.
What we learned from this game: The Wildcats started well, but
then lost the lead and never regained the momentum. Woods Cross
let Oly play its style and was in a no-win situation.

Feb. 12 - Stansbury 65, Woods Cross 49
Story of the game - Taylor Hunt had his biggest game of the season,
scoring 28 points, as Stansbury dominated the fourth quarter and
routed Woods Cross for its first Region 6 win of the season.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats trailed 18-12 after the first period,
but rallied to tie the game at halftime. Austin Bankowski led the team
in scoring with 21 points, and Steven Sperry added nine.
Stansbury's best moment - The Stallions led 33-30 entering the
fourth period, then put up 32 points to win going away. Hunt had four
three-pointers in the game, and Stansbury helped itself by making
24-31 free throws.
Statistical notes - The 49 points given up was Stansbury's best effort
in region play. The 32 points in one quarter was also a season high.
Reggie Roberts added 10 points. This was Woods Cross' first loss
since Bankowski returned from injury.
What we learned from this game - This was a shocker, and one of
the biggest upsets in region play this season.

Feb. 9 - Woods Cross 68, Tooele 40
Story of the game - Austin Bankowski scored 20 points and Ryan
Anderson had 16 as Woods Cross put on an impressive show and
routed Tooele in a Region 6 game.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats played a great game. They
jumped on Tooele early and led 29-11 at halftime. After a short rally,
the put the game away in the final quarter. Mark Evans added 10
points and nine different players scored.
Tooele's best moment - The Buffaloes only really put up a fight in the
third quarter and they were still down 16 points. Jacob Holt had 11
points and Travis Brady 10.
Statistical notes - This was Tooele's biggest loss in region play.
Woods Cross played one of its best games of the season. The 40
points given up was the Wildcats' best since the opener.
What we learned from this game - Woods Cross won its second
straight and now is in contention for third place in region with three
games left.

Feb. 5 - Woods Cross 51, Bountiful 50
Story of the game - Ryan Anderson scored 20 points, including the
winning three-pointer with seven seconds left, as Woods Cross
celebrated Austin Bankowski's return with an upset win over rival
Bountiful.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats led for much of the first half and
went into intermission with a five-point lead. After giving up that lead,
Bankowski and Mark Evans hit big shots to set up Anderson's shot
that he'll remember the rest of his life.
Bountiful's best moment - The Braves started the game by missing
their first eight shots, but came back behind the outside shooting of
McKay LaSalle, who had 21 points, including five three-pointers. Dan
Prawitt added 12.
Statistical notes - Evans was the Wildcats' top scorer with 18 points.
Bankowski and Evans each had eight rebounds.
What we learned from this game - Woods Cross bounced back and
handed its rival its first region loss. The Wildcats also have
Bankowski back and are a different team capable of moving up in the
standings.

Feb. 2 - East 79, Woods Cross 74
Story of the game - Dakota Marsden scored 20 points and Aaron
Steffenson added 18 as East defeated Woods Cross for its second
staright Region 6 victory.
WX's best moment - This game was close throughout, and Ryan
Anderson had one of his best games of the season with 22 points.
Mark Evans added 19.
East's best moment - The Leopards forced several turnovers near
the start of the fourth quarter and built a 10-point lead. East then had
to shoot a lot of free throws for the rest of the game. Jack Larson
added 14 points and Parker Van Dyke 13.
Statistical notes - East shot 24-38 from the free-throw line. Woods
Cross was 21-30. Marsden reached the 20-point mark for the
second straight game, and only the third time this season.
What we learned from this game - The Wildcats - once again -
played without Bankowski and now face the possibility of dropping in
the region standings.

Jan. 29 - Woods Cross 51, Highland 42
Story of the game - Ryan Anderson scored 13 points and Woods
Cross benefited from an impressive inside game to beat Highland in
a Region 6 game.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats played their best game in a while,
dominating Highland in the second half and going to the free-throw
line frequently. Cory Gerrard and Zach Hunsaker added nine points
and helped Woods Cross pull away at the end.
Highland's best moment - The Rams led 17-15 at halftime, but the
Wildcats solved Highland's defense after that. The Rams got
balanced scoring, led by Nate Fakahafua with nine points.
Statistical notes - Highland shot 12-19 from the free-throw line,
while Woods Cross was 24-36. Highland had two treys, while
Woods Cross had just one. Woods Cross outscored Highland 36-25
in the second half.
What we learned from this game - Woods Cross ended Highland's
five-game home winning streak and beat a good team without
Bankowski. This should be a motivator for the Wildcats.

Jan. 22 - Olympus 50, Woods Cross 44
Story of the game - Ben Sonntag scored a season-high 13 points as
Olympus built a comfortable lead and then held off Woods Cross in a
Region 6 game.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats made a nice rally, cutting the
margin to three points late in the game. Ryan Anderson had 15
points and Mark Evans had 14.
Oly's best moment - The Titans led the entire game, but it was close
(22-20) at intermission. Oly blew the game open in the third period,
and then held on in the final period. Connor Brady added 12 points
and Nicholas Paulos had 11.
Statistical notes - Oly shot 11-21 from the free-throw line, while
Woods Cross was 7-8. Oly made five three-pointers. Woods Cross
had one. Steven Sperry had seven rebounds for the Wildcats.
What we learned from this game - The Wildcats missed their
chance at a big upset, but proved they can play competitively without
Austin Bankowski.

Jan. 19 - Woods Cross 62, Stansbury 48
Story of the game: Ryan Anderson scored 21 points and Cory
Gerrard had a season-high 12 as Woods Cross won its first game
since Austin Bankowski was injured, beating Stansbury in a Region
6 matchup.
WX's best moment: The Wildcats have had to retool their game with
Bankowski's absence. Anderson had his second-best scoring game
of the season and helped WX just slowly build its lead throughout the
game. Steven Sperry had nine points and five assists.
Stansbury's best moment: The Stallions played tough behind Taylor
Hunt, who scored 18 points, and Ty Barton, who had 13. The team
was competitive, but fell for the fourth straight game.
Statistical notes: Woods Cross shot 18-26 from the free-throw line,
while Stansbury was 9-11. Hunt had three treys, and Reggie Roberts
had two. Woods Cross was credited with 13 steals.
What we learned from this game: The Wildcats needed this win
badly because their chances of reaching the postseason has
dropped with Bankowki's injury. Right now, the best they can
probably hope for is the No. 4 seed.

Jan. 15 - Tooele 54, Woods Cross 50
Story of the game - Jacob Holt scored 17 points as Tooele built a
small lead and then hung on to edge Woods Cross to record its first
Region 6 victory.
WX's best moment - Zach Hunsaker had a season-high 14 points
for the Wildcats, who played without Austin Bankowski. WX made a
nice rally in the fourth quarter. Ryan Anderson and Mark Evans had
11 points each.
Tooele's best moment - Tooele outscored Woods Cross 14-6 in the
second quarter to take a seven-point lead, which it never
relinquished. Spencer Bunn had a season-high 10 points, including
two three-pointers.
Statistical notes - Both teams made six three-pointers. Hunsaker
had four for WX. Tooele made 14-20 free throws, while WX was 8-13.
What we learned from this game - Bankowski was sorely missed in
this game, and his presence may not be needed against Stansbury,
certainly Olympus.

Jan. 12 - Bountiful 62, Woods Cross 43
Story of the game: Dan Prawitt had his best game of the season,
scoring 20 points and pulling down seven rebounds, as Bountiful
whipped Woods Cross in a Region 6 game.
Woods Cross' best moment: The Wildcats' Austin Bankowski had
an injured foot and was not 100 percent. He was still the team's top
scorer with nine points.
Bountiful's best moment: Prawitt made 8-of-9 shots, and teammate
Nick Williams added 19 points and 11 boards to help Bountiful
dominate inside. The Braves led 39-29 after three quarters, and
Bountiful dominated the final period.
Statistical notes: Bountiful made 23-29 free throws. Woods Cross
was 12-19. Ryan Anderson and Cory Gerard had seven points
apiece for WX.
What we learned from this game: The loss ended the Wildcats'
three-game win streak and dropped them to 1-1 in region. After the
game, Bountiful made it clear it wanted to take advantage of
Bankowski's injury.

Jan. 8 - Woods Cross 62, East 42
Story of the game - Austin Bankowski, Cory Gerrard and Mark Evans
had big games inside as Woods Cross blew out to a big lead and
downed East in both team's Region 6 opener.
WX's best moment - The Wildcats had a small lead after the first
quarter, but then dominated until filling the game with reserves.
Bankowski had 14 points and Ryan Anderson 10.
East's best moment - The Leopards trailed 52-21 going into the final
period, but outscored WX 21-10 to make the final score more
respectable. James Christiansen led East with 14 points, while Nick
Sessions had 13.
Statistical notes - Bankowski, Gerrard and Evans combined for
about 30 rebounds. Anderson added five assists. Sessions had both
three-pointers for East. Leading scorer Dakota Marsden had just one
point. WX shot 22-31 from the free-throw line.
What we learned from this game - The Wildcats hadn't played in
nine days, but didn't appear rusty and recorded one of their most
impressive wins of the season.

Dec. 30 - Woods Cross 70, Syracuse 66
Story of the game - Austin Bankowski scored 20 points and Mark
Evans had 16 as Woods Cross' inside play proved to be the
difference in a non-region win over Syracuse.
Woods Cross' best moment - The Wildcats trailed 19-8 after the first
period, but rallied to finally tie the game on a three-pointer by Parker
Rose with 6:30 left. Wade Rasmussen added another big three as
WX took the lead for good.
Syracuse's best moment - Tyler Phelps led a balanced scoring
attack for Syracuse, which led most of the game. Phelps had 15
points and Jaxon Reid 13.
Statistical notes - Woods Cross shot 17-25 from the free-throw line.
Syracuse was just 7-13. The Wildcats outscored Syracuse 62-47
after the first period.
What we learned from this game - The Wildcats won their third
straight road game and beat a Region 1 team for the first time.

Dec. 22 - Woods Cross 52, Bonneville 51
Story of the game: Austin Bankowski had a career night, scoring 35
points (including all 17 of the team's points in the fourth quarter), as
Woods Cross rallied to beat Bonneville in a non-region game.
Woods Cross's best moment: Get the ball to Austin was the name
of the game. He even hit a couple of three-pointers. This game was
close throughout, but Bankowski willed the Wildcats to the victory.
Bonneville's best moment: Jaden Welsch and Jordan Tesch scored
18 and 17 points, so they combined to score the same amount as
Bankowski. The Lakers had a chance to win late, but couldn't get a
shot off.
Statistical notes: This was Bonneville's only game in a 25-day
stretch. Both teams shot well from the free-throw line. Zach
Hunsaker was the Wildcats' second-leading scorer with six points.
What we learned from this game: The Wildcats go into the holiday
break with a 4-4 record, and made amends for the West game,
which they gave away. This was also the first time Woods Cross won
a close game.

Dec. 18 - West 45, Woods Cross 43
Story of the game: Tyrell Corbin scored 16 points and Jordan
Tanner had 15 as West rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth
quarter to defeat Woods Cross in a non-region game.
Woods Cross's best moment: The Wildcats led most of the game,
but couldn't put the game away late. Ryan Anderson led with 14
points and Mark Evans 10. Woods Cross hit just 6-13 free throws.
West's best moment: This was a big win for a veteran team, led by
Corbin. West trailed 35-25 entering the final period. Tana Afeaki had
nine points for the Panthers, who won their sixth straight game.
Statistical notes: West hit 8-9 free throws. Tanner had five of West's
seven three-pointers. Austin Bankowski had eight points and 12
rebounds. West started a new player - 6-10 Gatete Djuma. He had
just three points, but was a factor.
What we learned from this game: This was a winnable game for
Woods Cross, who lost a heartbreaker to West for the second
straight year. The Wildcats haven't had a winning streak yet.

Dec. 15 - Woods Cross 69, Granger 47
Story of the game: Austin Bankowski scored 18 points and Ryan
Anderson 16 as Woods Cross had a big advantage at the foul line
and buried Granger in a non-region game.
Woods Cross's best moment: The Wildcats led 32-15 at halftime
and were never threatened after that. Mark Evans had 12 points and
11 rebounds. This was a convincing effort by the home team.
Granger's best moment: The Lancers rallied in the fourth quarter,
but it wasn't enough. Deng Deng proved to be a nice pickup with 14
points, while Isiah Tademy had 11.
Statistical notes: The Wildcats shot 27-31 from the free-throw line.
Granger was 4-9. Steven Sperry had a nice game with eight points
and six rebounds. Parker Rose had four steals.
What we learned from this game: The Wildcats are having no
trouble against the weaker teams. Woods Cross outscored Granger
18-7 in the second quarter.

Story of the game: Coulsen Wright scored 17 points, including five
three-pointers, as Viewmont held off Woods Cross in a non-region
game.
Woods Cross's best moment: The Wildcats rallied in the second,
but a 35-24 deficit was too much to overcome. Austin Bankowski had
16 points and nine rebounds, while Mark Evans had 10 points and
10 boards.
Viewmont's best moment: The Vikings owned the first half and that
was the difference. Gibson Johnson had 12 points, while Sennett
Fraughton and Blake Wilkinson had eight each.
Statistical notes: Woods Cross hit 14-18 free throws, while
Viewmont was 8-14. The teams combined for 15 three-pointers.
What we learned from this game: This was a rivalry game, and it
appears Viewmont will be the champ of the Bountiful city schools.

Dec. 9 - Woods Cross 57, Cyprus 44
Story of the game: Austin Bankowski scored 13 points as Woods
Cross took advantage of a big advantage at the free-throw line and
buried Cyprus in a non-region game.
Woods Cross's best moment: The Wildcats took a 27-17 lead at
intermission and then held off a Cyprus comeback in the fourth
period. Mark Evans added 11 points and Jordan Jensen 10.
Cyprus' best moment: Marquis Newman had a game-high 17 points
for Cyprus, and the Pirates had five different players nail
three-pointers. The final quarter was frenzy for a while.
Statistical notes: Woods Cross was 23-32 from the free-throw line,
while Cyprus was just 5-9. Jensen and Parker Rose had a pair of
treys for Woods Cross.
What we learned from this game: The Wildcats went on the road
and got their first road victory. Cyprus scored 25 points (total) in the
first three periods, and had 19 in the final quarter.

Dec. 8 - Taylorsville 61, Woods Cross 54
Story of the game: Stevie McCloyn had a nice game, scoring 16
points, passing out five assists and grabbing four rebounds as
Taylorsville turned up its offensive effort in the second half and beat
Woods Cross in a non-region game.
Wood Cross's best moment: The Wildcats led for most of the first
half. Austin Bankowski was easily the top scorer for Woods Cross
with a season-high 23 points.
Taylorsville's best moment: The Warriors scored 43 of their 61
points in the second half. Brady Wright had 15 points, Andrew Togiai
11 and Jackson Roper 10.
Statistical notes: Taylorsville hit 11-15 free throws, compared to
Woods Cross's 8-17. Both teams had six three-pointers. Wright had
the most with three.
What we learned from this game: This was a winnable game, but
Taylorsville had the inside-outside game that was the difference,
especially in the second half.

Dec. 4 - Layton 71, Woods Cross 68 (OT)
Story of the game: Rees Checketts scored 16 points, but it was
Austin Butler's three-pointer in overtime that was the difference in
Layton's non-region overtime win over Woods Cross.
Woods Cross's best moment: Ryan Anderson had a great game,
scoring a game-high 27 points, including the tying three-pointer that
forced overtime. Mark Evans added 15 points and Austin Bankowski
11.
Layton's best moment: The Lancers trailed 16-13 after one quarter,
but dominated the second period and took a 10-point lead going into
halftime. Brandon Kida had 15 points, including three treys.
Statistical notes: Layton had a huge advantage at the free-throw line,
but Woods Cross was 15-16 at the stripe. Both teams nailed seven
three-pointers. Woods Cross rallied in the third period to make it a
game.
What we learned from this game: This was a tough loss, but it was
a good learning experience on the road. The only concern was that it
was a close game, and the good teams learn to win these.

Story of the game: Austin Bankowski led a balanced scoring attack
with 16 points as Woods Cross opened the season with a
convincing victory over Roy in a non-region game.
Woods Cross's best moment: The Wildcats blew this game open
early, claiming a 16-4 lead after the first quarter. Woods Cross led by
20 at halftime, and was able to substitute freely after that.
Roy's best moment: The Royals were never in this game, but did hit
five treys in an attempt to rally. Dallas Wilde and Gabe Funtinilla were
the Royals' top scorers. Wilde had a pair of three-pointers.
Statistical notes: Ryan Anderson had 13 points and Mark Evans had
11. Nine different players scored for Woods Cross. The Wildcats had
a big advantage at the free-throw line.
What we learned from this game: This was the season opener, and
Roy didn't show much. This was a good momentum boost for
Woods Cross, but we don't know much about the team yet.
