Nov. 6. - Springville 16, Woods Cross 12

Story of the game - Taylor Baker caught a 14-yard touchdown pass
from Steve Bate that proved to be the winning points, and also
intercepted a pass in the final minute, as Springville held off Woods
Cross in a 4A quarterfinal game.

WX's best moment - The Wildcats trailed most of the game, but
dominated most of the second half. RB C.J. Corry's 2-yard
touchdown run put WX within 16-10. WX had the ball three times in
Springville territory in the final quarter, but could not score.

Springville's best moment - The Red Devils broke through early and
Baker's TD gave them a 16-3 lead. Both teams relied on their
defenses to keep them in the game, and penalties helped and hurt
both clubs.

What we learned from this game - A tough game to lose, but Woods
Cross proved it can once again be a football power. Coach Fred
Fernandes was gracious in defeat.

Next - Woods Cross finished with a 7-4 record. Its first winning
season since 1993. Springville advanced to play Dixie in one 4A
semifinal.

Oct. 30 - Woods Cross 35, Provo 20

Story of the game - QB Tyler Parson threw for two touchdowns and
the Woods Cross defense returned a pair of interceptions for scores
to claim a road victory over Provo in the opening round of the 4A
playoffs.

WX's best moment - The Wildcats led 14-0, then John Kendrick
returned an interception 30 yards for a score. Woods Cross put the
game away in the fourth period when Adam Hales picked off a pass
and took it 90 yards for a score.

Provo's best moment - The Bulldogs trailed 21-0 but rallied to make
it a game. Seth Rhineer caught a touchdown pass from QB Matt
Griner, and then Maka Unufe had a long kickoff return to start the
second half that led to another score.

What we learned from this game - The Bulldogs ended the season
on a sour note, but it was their most successful season in a while.
Unufe played, but his exploits were not enough this time. Region 7
lost three of its four games, but Timpview looks stellar.

Next - Provo is done for the season. Woods Cross advances to play
Springville in a 4A quarterfinal.

Oct. 16 - Highland 49, Woods Cross 30

Story of the game - QB Mason Keller had his best game of the
season, throwing for four touchdowns, as Highland rallied from a
huge deficit won defeated Woods Cross in a Region 6 game.

WX's best moment - RB C.J. Corry had two scores in the first quarter
as the Wildcats were at their best. Tyler Parson's 43 yard TD pass to
Tyson Rose gave WX a 30-6 lead, and should have quieted the
crowd, but the successful fake punt got Highland back into it.

Highland's best moment - The Rams trailed 23-0 after the first
quarter and were down 30-6 when RB Toi Taufa completed a 22-yard
pass to Christopher Lloyd on a fake punt. That started the
momentum change. Highland trailed just 30-25 at halftime, and
ended up scoring the game's final 43 points.

What we learned from this game - The Wildcats earned the No. 3
seed in the first round of the 4A playoffs and will play the loser of next
week's Provo-Timpview game.

Next - Highland plays at East. Woods Cross is done until the playoffs.

Oct. 9 - Woods Cross 44, Tooele 18

Story of the game - QB Tyler Parson threw for 166 yards and two
touchdowns, and RB C.J. Corry had a big night with 134 yards
rushing, as Woods Cross had no trouble beating Tooele and
clinched a post-season berth.

WX's best moment -Woods Cross jumped to a 23-0 lead in the first
quarter and held a 37-6 advantage at halftime. Aaron Markisich
thrilled the home crowd with an 85-yard kickoff return.

Tooele's best moment - The Buffaloes actually controlled the third
quarter. In fact, Nick Hyde took over at QB and led Tooele to three
straight touchdowns to spark some momentum, but it wasn't enough.

What we learned from this game - The Wildcats have built some
momentum with three straight dominating wins, and now can force a
tie for first place with a win at Highland next week.

Next - Woods Cross ends its regular season at Highland. Tooele
plays host to
East.

Sept. 30 - Woods Cross 38, Stansbury 6

Story of the game - Parker Rose ran for two touchdowns, and
Woods Cross picked up scores on a blocked punt and a fumble
return en route to a decisive win over Stansbury in a Region 6 game.

WX's best moment - The Wildcats led 21-0 at halftime and put the
game away in the third quarter, thanks to a 28-yard touchdown pass
from QB Tyler Parson to Brian Sperry, Jordan O'Toole's 65 yard
fumble return and a field goal.

Stansbury's best moment - E.J. Jones scored on a 1-yard run in the
fourth quarter to prevent the shutout. Stansbury scored one
touchdown or less for the third time this season.

What we learned from this game - This was an easy win, and was
one step toward moving Woods Cross toward a 4A playoff berth. The
Wildcats have a chance to challenge for the region title, but can't lose
again.

Next - Woods Cross plays host to Tooele. Stansbury goes to
Olympus.

Sept. 25 - Woods Cross 46, East 6

Story of the game - Aaron Markish returned the opening kickoff for a
touchdown, and the Woods Cross running attack had its best game
of the season as the Wildcats buried East in a Region 6 contest.

WX's best moment - The Wildcats rallied after a tough loss the
previous week. Parker Rose had 119 yards rushing, and C.J. Corry
had 93 more as Woods Cross dominated the line of scrimmage.

East's best moment - QB Tanner Curtis hit Angel Castellanos on a
fourth-down play late in the first half for the Leopards only score.
Curtis was later injured and left the game.

What we learned from this game - The Wildcats were just
dominating. Perhaps this came from last week's disappointing loss.

Next - Woods Cross returns home to take on Stansbury. East plays
host to
Bountiful.

Sept. 18 - Bountiful 14, Woods Cross 12

Story of the game - RB Ben Lemon ran 57 yards for a touchdown
with less than two minutes left, and then the Bountiful defense
stopped a last-second two-point conversion try in the final seconds to
beat Woods Cross for the 19th straight time.

WX's best moment - RB C.J. Corry had 103 yards on 24 carries,
including a first-quarter touchdown that gave the Wildcats the lead.
Bountiful led 7-6 late in the game until Lemon scored, but that gave
Woods Cross a chance to rally, and it almost did.

Bountiful's best moment - It wasn't until Mitch Johnson's pass rush
forced WX QB Tyler Parson to throw an incompletion on the two-point
play attempt that the Braves could relax. This game was close the
entire way. Dillon Salazar had a big game defensively with two
interceptions.

What we learned from this game - This was a tough game ... one of
those where you can say it's a shame someone had to lose. Woods
Cross has improved, and it won't be long before they end the losing
streak to their rival.

Next - Bountiful has a non-region home game against Viewmont.
Woods Cross travels to East.

Sept. 11 - Woods Cross 27, Olympus 9

Story of the game - RB Parker Rose rushed for 114 yards and Aaron
Markisich intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown, as
Woods Cross manhandled Olympus in each team's Region 6
opener.

WX's' best moment - The Wildcats dominated the second half,
limiting Olympus to three first downs. Woods Cross also had 94-yard
touchdown drive that ended when C.J. Corry scored on a 12-yard run.
Markisich's interception return iced the win in the fourth quarter.

Olympus' best moment - Trailing 7-0, the Titans rallied on a 23-yard
field goal by Stephen Hendriks and then went ahead on a 1-yard run
by Terry Isaia. The Titans had momentum until a key facemask
penalty late in the second quarter allowed WX to continue a drive that
gave the Wildcats the lead.

What we learned from this game - This was a big win for Olympus,
and it set up Woods Cross to be one of the top four teams in the
region.

Next - Woods Cross takes on rival Bountiful. Olympus plays host to
East.

reporters at the game. To read the D-News story,

Sept. 3 - Woods Cross 36, West 3

Story of the game - C.J. Corry ran for two touchdowns and Darchon
Taggart caught a couple of scoring passes as Woods Cross went on
the road and downed West in a non-region game.

Woods Cross' best moment - The Wildcats came back from a tough
outing the week before and brought their A-game.

West's best moment - The Panthers were able to run the ball and
Tana Afeaki finished with 104 yards on 17 carries, but they couldn't
put the ball into the end zone. West's only score came on a 24-yard
field goal by Uriel Gutierrez.

What we learned from this game - This was a great game for
Woods Cross, and proved that the Wildcats will play a role in the race
in Region 6.

Next - Woods Cross starts Region 6 action at home against
Olympus. West plays host to Hunter in Region 2.

Aug. 28 - Bonneville 31, Woods Cross 14

Story of the game - Chase Shaw scored two touchdowns and
Bonneville took advantage of four Woods Cross turnovers to claim
the non-region victory.

WX's best moment - C.J. Corry ran for 115 yards, and Woods Cross
actually scored first on a pass from Tyler Parson to Mark Evans. But
the Wildcats fumbled two punts and then lost the game when Shaw
returned a pass interception for a score.

Bonneville's best moment - The Lakers captured their first victory by
taking advantage of turnovers. Bonneville had a short field on a
couple of occasions, thanks to the fumbled punts. QB Manaia Filiaga
completed 11-19 passes for 219 yards.

What we learned from this game - Woods Cross gave Bonneville
this game, and learned the hard way the importance of special
teams, and how to avoid turnovers.

Next - Woods Cross travels to play West. Bonneville has a home
game against Roy.

Aug. 21 - Woods Cross 27, Roy 6

Story of the game - C.J. Corry ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns,
and the Woods Cross defense held Roy scoreless until the final
moments as the Wildcats claimed the win in the season opener.

WX's best moment - The Wildcats started slowly, but earned 13-0
halftime lead, thanks to a couple of field goals by Steven Sperry. They
were able to control the clock in the second half with their running
game. QB Tyler Parson was 11-23 for 129 yards.

Roy's best moment - RB Colton Scadden had 110 yards on 19
carries, but Roy was unable to throw the football. The Royals'
defense was on the field a lot.

What we learned from this game - It was a good season opener for
Woods Cross, but Roy probably doesn't provide WX with a good
example.

Next - Woods Cross plays host to Bonneville. Roy has a home game
against Fremont.
