March 3 - Davis 59, West Jordan 52

Story of the game: Tallon Burton scored 17 points as Davis won
its 13th straight game by holding off West Jordan in a 5A
quarterfinal game at Weber State's Dee Events Center.

West Jordan's highlights: The Jaguars trailed throughout, but
used a half-court trap defense to rally in the fourth period. They cut
an 11-point deficit to 54-52 on Jaxon Knighton's layup with 1:00 left.
Jordan Loveridge led with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Davis' highlights: The Darts had balanced scoring and Kyle Smith
was the hero by hitting 4-4 free throws in the final minute.

Statistical notes: West Jordan trailed 29-14 late in the second
quarter, but went on a 14-0 run to make it a game again. Knighton
scored the Jags' last five points. After Knighton's last basket, West
Jordan was 0-3 from the field and 0-2 from the free-throw line.

What we learned from this game: Davis advanced to the 5A
semifinals, where it defeated Copper Hills before losing to Alta in
the final. Coach Scott Briggs said the Jags could have made it to
the final with a win here (they had already beaten Copper Hills
twice).

March 2 - West Jordan 52, Pleasant Grove 50

Story of the game: Andre Ashton scored 13 points, and played a
big role in the fourth quarter, as West Jordan rallied to edge
Pleasant Grove in the first round of the 5A state tournament.

West Jordan's highlights: The Jaguars trailed most of the first half,
and had trouble rebounding against the bigger Vikings. Ashton and
Jordan Loveridge combined for some big baskets near the end.
Loveridge made 1-2 free throws late, and the Jags survived PG's
final shot attempt.

PG's highlights: Brady Hoglund had the hot hand outside, scoring
15 points on perfect three-point shooting. Cory McAllister had 13
points, and Sefa Tanoai 12, but missed the potential
game-winning three-pointer at the end. This was one of the best
playoff games of the night.

Statistical notes: Tanoai made 16 three-pointers during the
season, but none in the final five games. The Jags finished with a
9-2 home record on the season. West Jordan made seven
three-pointers from four different players.

What we learned from this game: Coach Scott Briggs said this
was probably the team's best game of the year. It had everything all
the way to the end, and gave the Jags a chance to move on to
Weber State's Dee Events Center.

points apiece as West Jordan shot past Riverton in the final game
of the Region 3 regular season.

against West Jordan. The Jags had a big advantage at the
free-throw line, and nailed 25-31 charity shots. Riverton retaliated
with eight three-pointers from five different players.

What we learned from this game: The Jags played well on "Senior
Night" and go into the 5A state tournament with some momentum.
They're matched up against a tough Region 4 team, though.

with 14 points as West Jordan grabbed an early lead and held off
Kearns to avenge an earlier loss to the Cougars.

combined to make a good inside-outside combination and helped
the Jags to a 12-point halftime lead. West Jordan led by 15 points
before Kearns rallied.

holding West Jordan to a season-low four points, to make the
score look closer. Andrew Lokeni led the way with 18 points.

Statistical notes: Kearns' Marino Moore was credited with six
assists. Knighton's 14 points was his season high and the eighth
time he reached double figures. The Jags only shot three free
throws, but made all of them.

What we learned from this game: The Jags were surprised when
they played at Kearns last month, and made sure it didn't happen
again. The victory also clinched a No. 2 seed.

Clifford's 24-point night was his second-best outing this season.
He also hit two three-pointers. Bingham made 12 three-pointers.

had 13. The Grizzlies missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Statistical notes: Both teams shot badly from the free-throw line.
Copper Hills was just 5-13 and it cost them ... again. Cordova had
three treys for Copper Hills. The Grizzlies are 5-5 at home this
season.

What we learned from this game: The Jaguars now have a
two-game lead on Copper Hills with three to play, but West Jordan
still must play Bingham. At least it owns the tiebreaker.

difference. Jordan Pryor had nine points and Tyler Keisel had a
season-high eight.

18 points each from Stevie McCloyn and Andrew Togiai. Taylorsville
had a chance to tie the game late, but McCloyn's three-pointer
missed.

games were close.

Story of the game: Dalton Noble scored 17 points and Jarin Bell
had a season-high 11 as Kearns pulled away from West Jordan at
the end to earn its first Region 3 victory.

points and nine rebounds, but this wasn't the Jaguars' best efforts.
They had a chance win, but were outplayed during the last four
minutes.

Kearns' highlights: The Cougars gained some revenge after being
blown out by West Jordan both times last year. Kearns played good
defense and recorded 10 steals. Andrew Lokeni had 10 points.

Statistical notes: This was West Jordan's first road loss after three
straight wins. Bell has really come on recently for Kearns. West
Jordan did a nice job rebounding.

What we learned from this game: This was a winnable game, but
the Jags simply didn't play well enough to win. There will be games
like that, especially among young teams. West Jordan is 3-2
halfway through the region season.

Statistical notes: The Jags had a big free-throw advantage, hitting
19-28 charity shots. Skyline was 7-8.

What we learned from this game: The Jaguars got back on the
winning track falling falling a couple of nights earlier. Since West
Jordan is the defending 5A champs, they will be on the radar all
season.

Dec. 2 - Hillcrest 43, West Jordan 38

Story of the game: Matt Pecht scored 18 points and Hillcrest blew
out to a big lead and then took advantage of West Jordan's poor
free-throw shooting to claim a non-region win.

West Jordan's highlights: The Jaguars scored 22 points in the
fourth quarter, easily more than half of their game total, but it wasn't
enough. Jordan Loveridge had 12 points for the Jags, who had
nine players reach the scoring column.

Hillcrest's highlights: The Huskies took a 17-8 lead and then
extended it to 26-10 at halftime. Austin Adams added 12 points as
Hillcrest managed to hold on to the win.

Statistical notes: West Jordan had seven three-point baskets.
Pecht had three of Hillcrest's four treys. Only five players scored for
Hillcrest, but it was enough.

What we learned from this game: After looking so dominant in the
first game, the Jaguars were brought back to earth. The 38-point
effort was the worst in two seasons.

Nov. 24 - West Jordan 73, West 48

Story of the game: Jesse Herrin scored 18 points, including five
three-pointers, but was West Jordan's inside game that made the
difference in the Jaguars' impressive season-opening win.

West Jordan's highlights: The Jaguars led the entire game.
Jordan Loveridge had 14 points and several blocked shots, while
Jaxon Knighton had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

West's best moment: Since West was dominated inside, the
Panthers' Tyrell Corbin and Jordan Tanner had to play a big role
outside, and they finished with 15 and 14 points. West had a nice
run in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough.

Statistical notes: Tanner, Corbin and Tana Afeaki combined for
nine three-pointers for West. West Jordan put the game away with
a 13-3 run early in the third quarter.

What we learned from this game: This was a great first game for
West Jordan. These teams won the 5A and 4A state titles last year,
but they are entirely different clubs this season.
