Bingham vs. Jordan
Fremont vs. Lone Peak
Oct. 21 - Kearns 34, West Jordan 20

Story of the game - Keanu Solovi rushed for 164 yards and Brady
Sawsak returned a fumble for a touchdown and also had a pass
interception to help Kearns end West Jordan's postseason hopes
in this Region 3 victory.

West Jordan's highlights - The Jaguars rode the passing arm of
Adam Boelter, but they had trouble making big plays. Boelter
completed 25 passes, but for just 216 yards. Cameron Peacock
had a big night with 13 receptions.

Kearns' highlights - The Cougars never trailed, and put the game
away in the third period when they converted on two fourth-down
plays that led to QB J.R. Finai's second touchdown run. A few
minutes later, Sawsak had his 74-yard fumble return that was the
key play in the game.

Statistical notes - Kearns ran the ball 64 times and dominated time
of possession, keeping the ball from West Jordan's offense. The
Cougars also forced three turnovers.

What we learned from this game - The Jaguars missed the
postseason by losing five of their last six games. The Herriman
defeat was the real killer. The defense gave up 32.8 ppg. Not too
many playoff teams with that statistic.

Next - West Jordan ended its season with a 4-6 mark. Kearns
advances to play at Skyline in the 5A playoffs Oct. 29.

Oct. 13 - Herriman 35, West Jordan 28

Story of the game - Francis Bernard set a school rushing record
with 200 yards and four touchdowns to lift Herriman to its biggest
upset win of the season over West Jordan in a Region 3 game.

West Jordan's highlights - The Jaguars couldn't stop Bernard, or
Herriman's running game, and trailed 35-14 at one point. QB Adam
Boelter rallied the Jags with a pair of touchdown throws in the
second half, but it wasn't enough. Boelter rushed for 137 yards.

Herriman's highlights - This was the Mustangs' best win this year.
Bernard was unstoppable and played the key role in the team's 329
rushing yards. The win gives Herriman high hopes for a playoff
berth in its first season.

Statistical notes - Boelter had a season-low 260 yards passing, but
made up for it with his running. The Jags' problem is still defense.
They're giving up more than 30 points per game.

What we learned from this game - This was a disappointing loss,
and now the Jags' playoff hopes are in doubt. Next week's game is
a must win or they're done.

Next - West Jordan plays at Kearns Oct. 22. Herriman has Riverton
at home.

Oct. 8 - Bingham 50, West Jordan 24

Story of the game - Stefan Cantwell threw three second-half
touchdowns as Bingham got a scare from West Jordan, but rallied
for the Region 3 victory.

West Jordan's highlights - The Jags had Bingham - and its
homecoming crowd - worried as Adam Boelter threw two TD
passes in the first half and the defense had held the Miner to easily
their lowest total of the season.

Bingham's highlights - The Miners trailed 16-10 at halftime, but
Cantwell hit Sean Larson for a 70-yard touchdown and then an
interception set another score. Bingham outscored West Jordan
40-8 in the second half.

Statistical notes - Bingham held West Jordan to 23 rushing yards.
Boelter threw for 335 yards, but was intercepted four times.
Martavius Redmond caught 11 balls for 137 yards.

What we learned from this game - The Miners escaped, and
reverted to their usual status with a big second-half performance.
Next week's game will decide the Region 3 title.

Next - Bingham plays at Riverton Oct. 13. West Jordan has a home
game against Herriman.

Sept. 30 - West Jordan 49, Taylorsville 20

Story of the game - Adam Boelter ran for four touchdowns and West
Jordan regrouped at halftime to blitz Taylorsville with a big second
half and win its homecoming and Region 3 game.

West Jordan's highlights - The game was tied 14-14 at halftime,
but the Jaguars defense held Taylorsville scoreless until the
game's final minute. Tanar Maughan returned a fumble for a
touchdown and Boelter accounted for 276 yards passing.

Taylorsville's highlights - Warriors QB Dylan Wilson passed for two
scores in the first half and Taylorsville had the potential to pull off the
upset. Three turnovers in the second half hurt its chances, though.

Statistical notes - Both team's QBs ended up being the top
rushers. Martavius Redmond caught 8 passes for 124 yards. The
win ended West Jordan's two-game losing streak and tied for their
highest-scoring game of the year.

What we learned from this game - Boelter stayed in the game to
get more reps for the offense, which had struggled in previous
games.

Next - West Jordan plays at Bingham Oct. 8. Taylorsville has
Riverton at home.

Sept. 24 - Riverton 37, West Jordan 20

Story of the game - Joey Jensen and Derrick Rodriguez each ran
for over 100 yards and Riverton built a 30-0 lead and held off West
Jordan in a key Region 3 battle.

West Jordan's highlights - The Jaguars suffered turnover problems
early, but rallied in the second half to make the score more
respectable. QB Adam Boelter passed for two TDs and ran for
another.

Riverton's highlights - The Silverwolves rushing attack ran at will,
amassing 432 yards, and QB Eric Thoreson also threw for 171
more. This was Riverton's homecoming game and the team won its
sixth straight.

Statistical notes - Martavius Redmond had 12 catches for 159
yards and Cameron Peacock was 11-79. Riverton had three
interceptions in the first half and held WJ scoreless during that time.

What we learned from this game - This marked the first time a
team really had stopped the Jaguars - at least for a while. At the
same time, West Jordan couldn't stop Riverton.

Next - West Jordan returns home to play Taylorsville Sept. 30.
Riverton travels to play Alta Oct. 1 in a non-region game.

Sept. 17 - Pleasant Grove 33, West Jordan 23

Story of the game - McKay Madsen scored three times - on a
blocked punt and two receptions - and the Pleasant Grove defense
came up with three interceptions as the Vikings beat West Jordan in
a non-region game.

West Jordan's highlights - Adam Boelter passed for 310 yards, but
Pleasant Grove took away the deep pass. The Jaguars led 9-0 early
in the game and had chances to rally late in the game. Cameron
Peacock had a big game with 10 receptions for 204 yards.

Pleasant Grove's highlights - Cooper Caldwell's touchdown run
gave PG a 10-9 lead, and then Madsen scored on scored on a
blocked punt to extend the margin. The Vikings' defense played
especially well, and held West Jordan in the "red zone" on a couple
of occasions.

Statistical notes - The Jags' 29 points was its lowest so far this
season. West Jordan is now 2-2 in home games this year. PG
kicker Winston Sorhaitz had two field goals, which were important in
this game.

What we learned from this game - This was a winnable game that
got away from West Jordan. Turnovers were the big killer. The Jags
put pressure on PG's defense, but had too many big plays go
against them.

Next - West Jordan plays Riverton in a key Region 3 game Sept. 24.
Pleasant Grove (2-3) has American Fork at home.

Sept. 10 - West Jordan 49, Copper Hills 16

Story of the game - West Jordan had a surprise for rival Copper
Hills, re-introducing QB Adam Boelter, and he responded with five
touchdown passes in the Jaguars' Region 3 win.

West Jordan's highlights - Boelter suffered a broken collarbone in
the opener, but recovered early. He threw for 374 yards, and had just
one interception as the Jags rolled to a 42-0 halftime lead.
Martavius Redmond broke two school records with 12 catches for
194 yards and four touchdowns.

Copper Hills' highlights - The Grizzlies rallied in the second half, an
QB Brendon Hoskin led two scoring drives. Copper Hills also
picked up points on two-point conversions. Tommy Ligman had 65
yards rushing.

Statistical notes - West Jordan has never lost to Copper Hills
(17-0). The Grizzlies' scores also stopped the "35-point" rule from
being enforced. For the second straight week, Alex Giordani was 7-7
on extra points.

What we learned from this game - The win wasn't surprising, but
Boelter's return certainly was. The Jags get into the meat of their
schedule next week, which could define the season.

Next - West Jordan plays host to Pleasant Grove Sept. 17. Copper
Hills has a home game against Riverton.

Sept. 3 - West Jordan 49, Provo 17

Story of the game - In a game of big plays, Michael Moorehead
passed for 249 yards and rushed for three touchdowns, including
an 80-yard scamper, to lift West Jordan past Provo in a non-region
game.

West Jordan's highlights - There were many. While Moorehead
threw four INTs, he also rebounded quickly from each. West Jordan
had over 500 yards total offense, and the defense allowed just 10
points (the other seven was on a kickoff return).

Provo's highlights - The Bulldogs were confused by West Jordan's
offense and quickly fell behind 14-0. They rallied behind a pair of big
plays by Seth Rhineer and Keoki Unufe, but it was not early enough,
and lost for the first time this season.

Statistical notes - Moorehead had a career-high 165 yards rushing,
and half came on his 80-yard run down the middle of the field.
Deshawn Perkins had a 31-yard interception return for a score that
was a real momentum-changer.

What we learned from this game - After a tough loss last week, the
Jaguars were rejuvenated and it really showed on defense. The
Jags' offense will be able to score, but the defense will determine
how far they go this season.

Next - West Jordan opens Region 3 play Sept. 10 at home against
Copper Hills. Provo starts Region 7 action vs. Westlake.

Aug. 27 - East 58, West Jordan 40

Story of the game - Liti Molisi and Tanner Curtis led East's rushing
attack that netted over 300 yards as East put on an offensive clinic of
its own and beat West Jordan in a non-region game.

West Jordan's highlights - The Jaguars trailed the entire game, but
QB Michael Moorehead led a nice rally and finished with 484 yards
passing and four TD passes. Cameron Peacock and Martavius
Redmond had huge nights receiving.

East's highlights - The Leopards couldn't be stopped. Curtis
passed for 202 yards and ran for 128. Molisi had 151 yards on the
ground. Curtis also made a big play on defense, returning an INT 51
yards for a score that prevented West Jordan from getting too close.

Statistical notes - Moorehead was West Jordan's only rusher.
Peacock had 14 catches and Redmond 10. East scored eight
touchdowns, and all but one came on big plays.

What we learned from this game - West Jordan's offense came
alive, but if the defense can't stop anybody, will it matter? Two
games into the season, the Jags may have the worst defense
(statistically) in the state.

Next - West Jordan plays host to Provo Sept. 3. East goes to rival
West.

D-News story,

Aug. 20 - West Jordan 37, Granger 28

Story of the game - Adam Boelter passed for two touchdowns and
ran for two others as West Jordan built a big lead and then hung on
to defeat Granger in each team's season opener.

West Jordan's highlights - Boelter threw for 171 yards before
suffering a broken collarbone, and is likely out about four weeks.
The Jags brought in sophomore Michael Moorehead, who ran for a
score to build the margin to 37-15.

Granger's highlights - Jordan Hernandez also had a good game,
with two TD passes, and he also ran for a couple of scores in the
second half.

Statistical notes - Martavius Redmond caught nine passes for 151
yards. Moorehead ended up West Jordan's leading rusher.

What we learned from this game - This was a convincing win for
the Jags, but Boelter's injury put a damper on it. Moorehead started
two games last year when Boelter went down.

Next - West Jordan has a home game against East Aug. 27.
Granger travels to Reno, Nev., to play Hug High.
