Oct. 23 - Kearns 35, West Jordan 12
Story of the game - Kearns RB Alamoti Vaenuku had his best game
of the season, rushing for 226 yards and two scores, as the Cougars
earned Region 3's No. 3 spot with a solid victory over West Jordan.
West Jordan's best moment - Down 28-0, the Jags' offense finally
came to life. Damien Maestes, who had 75 yards on 20 carries, had
a TD run and QB Jace Rogers hit Tyson Udy on a short scoring pass
with about a minute left.
Kearns' best moment - Vaenuku had 124 yards and both of his TDs
in the first quarter as the Cougars took a commanding lead and
never let it get away. QB J.R. Finai hit Fatu Moala on a 22-yard
scoring pass to make it 21-0 at halftime.
What was learned from the game - The Jags had a chance to make
it to post-season with a win over Kearns. It didn't happen, and the
Cougars made sure of that right away. It was another tough loss for
West Jordan, but an improvement from 2007.
Next week - West Jordan is done. Kearns advances to the 4-A
playoffs.

Oct. 15 - West Jordan 28, Copper Hills 6
Story of the game - RB Damien Maestes scored two touchdowns
and DE D.J. Tialavea returned an interception 25 yards for a score to
give West Jordan its first Region 3 win - over Copper Hills.
West Jordan's' best moment - Tialavea and Tyson Udy are the
Jaguars' top players, and they were both a factor. Tialavea scored on
the INT return, and Udy caught a fourth-quarter pass for a score that
sealed the win.
Copper Hills' best moment - The Grizzlies' once-vaunted offense
has disappeared since region play started. The defense did account
for a score when Bo Duckett picked up a fumble and returned it four
yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
What was learned from the game - The win was West Jordan's first
in region and first in a month. It was also the first time Tialavea has
played a decisive factor in a long time.
Next week - West Jordan returns home to take on Kearns. Copper
Hills has a home game against Bingham.

Oct. 10 - Hunter 20, West Jordan 0
Story of the game - Running backs Equasi Tavo rushed for 85 yards
and Mone Moungaloa had 83 as Hunter took advantage of six West
Jordan turnovers and beat the Jags on their home field, ruining the
home team's homecoming.
West Jordan's best moment - The Jags were still in the game in the
second quarter. Led by RB Damien Maestes, who rushed for 151
yards on 27 carries, they moved the ball downfield but the drive
ended with a turnover.
Hunter's best moment - Tavo scored on a 55-yard run in the second
quarter to give the Wolverines a 13-0 lead. Rico Montoya then put the
game away in the third quarter when he returned an interception 40
yards for a touchdown.
What was learned from the game - The Jags have gone in the tank,
and perhaps only the coaches and players know why. Sure, they had
an easy preseason schedule, but it wasn't that easy. This team was
doing too many good things to falter like this in region play.
Next week - West Jordan travels to Copper Hills in the battle for the
basement. Hunter plays at Bingham.

Oct. 2 - Riverton 40, West Jordan 23
Story of the game - Riverton's Matt Maughan returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, and that started the onslaught. RB
Zach Spencer had two TD runs of over 60 yards as the Silverwolves claimed the Region 3 victory.
West Jordan's' best moment - The Jags fell behind early, but recovered in the second quarter to make it a game. The key point might
have been when it was held to a field goal in the third quarter, which allowed Riverton to keep the lead.
Riverton's best moment - Riverton led only 19-16 in the third quarter when the Silverwolves went on two TD drives. Tad Carter caught a
4-yard scoring pass from QB Davis Johnson, then RB Dillon Draper had a 7-yard TD run to make it 33-16.
What we learned from this game - Riverton is 2-0 and tied for first place in region. West Jordan is 0-2 and, after opening the season with
five straight wins, has dropped two straight. The Jags had so much promise earlier, and now need some momentum.
Next: Riverton takes on region power Bingham on its home field. West Jordan returns home to play Hunter.

Sept. 25 - Bingham 38, West Jordan 7
Story of the game - QB Jake Soffe completed 11 of 16 passes for 210 yards and the Bingham offensive and defensive lines proved
dominant as the Miners whipped previously unbeaten West Jordan in its Region 3 opener.
West Jordan's best moment - The Jags didn't score until the fourth quarter, when the game was out of reach. QB Jace Rogers hit Tyson
Udy on a 39-yard scoring pass. The Jags' D.J. Tialavea was not a
factor.
Bingham's best moment - The Miners led 7-0 after the first quarter, then added 24 points in the second. The big play was a 77-yard TD
pass from Soffe to Jordan Allen. Harvey Langi also had two scores in the game as Bingham showed it's likely to still be the top team in the
region.
What we learned from this game - Bingham is back, and its strength is in its line. West Jordan, meanwhile, has to regroup after playing
the top team. The Jags lost big last year, too, so the key to this season will likely b in the next couple of games.
Next - West Jordan goes on the road again to play Riverton. Bingham plays host to Kearns.

Sept. 19 - West Jordan 20, Hillcrest 17 (OT)
Story of the game - QB Jace Rogers hit Tyson Udy on an 8-yard TD pass in overtime to lift the Jaguars to 20-17 comeback victory over
Hillcrest, and ruin the Huskies' homecoming.
West Jordan's best moment - The Jags were not their usual selves and got several breaks that kept them in the game. Trailing 14-7 in
the fourth quarter, Damien Maestes had a couple of big runs and Koplin hit D.T. Tialavea on a long fourth-down pass that led to a TD. The
Jags also converted a fourth-down play on their OT drive.
Hillcrest's best moment - The Huskies came out the locker room in their "retro" black jerseys and that, combined with homecoming, lifted
their spirits. QB Kolby Koplin led Hillcrest to two first-half TD drives and a 14-7 lead at intermission. Kicker Jeffery Brown added a 38-yard
FG in OT, but it wasn't enough.
What was learned from the game - Momentum and play a big role, and this became a winnable game for Hillcrest. You can't take the
Huskies lightly. Also, when WJ needs a big play, Tialavea or Udy is almost always involved. Other teams know it, but they still have
produced.
Next week - Both teams start region play. West Jordan travels to play at Bingham, while Hillcrest has a home game against Jordan.

Sept. 12 - West Jordan 44, Taylorsville 6
No information available.
Sept. 5 - West Jordan 35, Olympus 28
Story of the game - Damien Maestes rushed for 126 yards and Brandt Henslee had 110 more as West Jordan withstood over 160 yards
in penalties and beat upstart Olympus in a non-region game.
West Jordan's best moment - The Jags jumped to a 20-7 lead at halftime, then gave up two quick TDs by Olympus that turned this into a
great game. QB Jace Rogers got back to what worked - the running game - and the Jags moved 80 yards in less than three minutes to
score the winning TD with 37.1 seconds left.
Oly's best moment - Something happened at halftime because the Titans came back quickly. On their first offensive play of the second
half, QB Spencer Harris hit Carter Young on a 64-yard TD pass. Oly's defense was inspired, too, stopping WJ on two straight drives. A
fumble recovery led to another score.
What was learned from the game - Coach Mike Morgan is funny. He deflects praise to his players, but they deserve it. Watch out for DE/TE
D.J. Tialavea, a 6-foot-5, 270-pounder. He's a "go to" guy in pressure situations, and has Div. 1 capability. Also, Oly's spread offense
worked. Both teams moved ahead with confidence. This game could be the difference in their season.
Next - West Jordan is scheduled to play host to Taylorsville, but there may be problems with the Jags' home field. More will be known
Monday. Olympus starts Region 6 play with a home game against Cyprus.

Aug. 29 - West Jordan 40, Mountain View 37 (OT)
Story of the game - D.J. Tialavea caught a fourth-down TD pass from QB Jace Rogers in the first overtime to lift the Jaguars to their
second win of the season. The game was tied 34-34 going into OT. Mountain View kicked a field goal and seemingly had forced the Jags
to do the same, but the team decided to go for the win instead.
West Jordan's best moment - Trailing 37-34 and contemplating a field goal attempt, the Jags asked coach Mike Moore to go for the win
instead. It was 4th-and-8. West Jordan had converted a fourth-down play just minutes earlier.
Mountain View's best moment - This game resembled a track meet, and the Bruins have their share of track stars. Both teams moved the
ball well, but the game's most exciting play (besides the end) was Tanner Houston's 85-yard kickoff return.
What was learned from the game? Wins like this are what players remember for the rest of their lives. Mountain View had chances to win,
but didn't convert. West Jordan is 2-0 now on the slimmest of margins.
Next - The Jags have yet another road game - playing at Olympus. Mountain View (0-2) has a game at Syracuse.

Aug. 22 - West Jordan 2, Lehi 0
Story of the game - Say that again? 2-0. In a game filled with everything, including a 45-minute delay when the lights went out, West
Jordan got a safety and that ended up being the only score of the game.
West Jordan's best moment - The Jaguars' defense was great. The difference ended up being the special teams. They scored the only
points of the game on a blocked punt and, at the end, Devon Paraso blocked a 43-yard field goal attempt to seal the win. Like Lehi,
however, West Jordan's offense needs some work.
Lehi's best moment - The defense. Certainly West Jordan had its chances, but the Pioneers had two impressive goal-line stands that
kept the Jaguars from scoring. Now, if only coach Derrick Peyton's offensive machine could get going. So far, he's had two years to
implement it, and has little to show.
What was learned from the game? It is nice to see a defensive battle in this day and age. It was the first game of the season, and it
provided some of the best entertainment because one play could make the difference. With only three home games this year, West Jordan
should be happy to get the road win.
Next - Lehi has the second of four straight home games. This time, the Pioneers will take on Springville, which was unimpressive last
week. West Jordan plays at Mountain View.
